Thank you AJC for posting and letting girls know about us and thank you for the support girls!!!!
I have been MIA for nearly a week now..... we were in hospital Tues night as I was going insane with poor Ava's screaming & crying in pain all day long, she wouldn't sleep and wasn't even eating properly and would fuss at the breast. So it was hard.... Tues i was exhausted and we went to hospital and Dr admitted us overnight so we could see the Paediatrician the next morning regarding possible silent reflux.
She was treated for it as they suspected it was that (like we did) and the next day she was a different baby!! Finally sleeping during the days now too so I actually get a break and rest if i need to.... whereas before I was living off 3-4hrs sleep a night and no sleep during the day!! She sleeps OK during the night thankfully.
So it's been very HARD for us with a reflux bub but we are getting there..... she's on medication & also like gripe water but it's called "Mariners Infant Mixture" and its homeopathic and working great for her.
BF'ing is still very painful on one side but I'm persisting.... it's been tough!! We had to give her top ups of formula last two nights just to get her to sleep however as she isn't feeding effectively on one side I think it's due to her silent reflux. I have since been told it can be challenging enough alone BFing let alone with a reflux baby. Feeding for them can be painful.... so its a huge learning curve at the moment on top of everything else *sighs*.
Anyway, noooo chance of catching up with you all as it's been pages and pages. Just wanted to touch base and let you all know we are still around and Ava and I are doing well besides a few hiccups along the way!!
Hope you're all keeping well. Hope to post more often now that Ava sleeps throughout the days
Ava sleeping = more time for me!!
eta - nappies - we are using Huggies newborn (they are still huge on her!!) and have some Aldi newborns aswell to use.... they are meant to be great. And in 2 weeks time we are going to start using our MCN's. She's just so small at this stage and they are huge on her!!
Oh!! And girls.... have to share exciting news.... before Ava got treated for silent reflux, it was impossible to leave the house as she was either feeding or crying in pain all day long.... so once we left hossy weds and she got her medication to help her she was better by Thurs morning.... we even went shopping just me and Ava (had to get out of the house!!!) and I had her in the sling and she slept contently in the sling for 2hrs while I even did the grocery shopping and went to BigW to buy a present for someone!! I was so happy that I managed to actually get things done as she was so content. It was wonderful. Poor bubba has been so uncomfortable but thankfully no longer in pain too much!
It's hard work being a first time Mum let alone having BFing issues AND a silent reflux baby!!! What a busy 4 weeks it's been.... but I'm pretty sure these challenges wouldn't present themselves if i couldnt handle it
Thats it im buying a hug-a-bub or a sling just to get things done...dh's sling is way toooooooo big for me.
Well tomorrow off to see the obstetrician for my 6 weeks check up..
Just want to run a few things by you all..im really worried i might be over-reacting and have a minor bout of PND or the fact my hormones are really out of sorts due to my thyroid hormone which controls my hormones is making me tired and cranky,as my metabolism is soooo sped up im sweating, not sleeping well day or night,i used to get this b4 i had Nixon and my levels last week were 24,they usually 23 and the highest level is 25 for me,so its pretty bad.
That and between my anaemia, low blood pressure and low iron and fatigue and not sleeping you can imagine how i feel, also hard cos not eating properly,no family or friends at all to help.just a friend the other day for 3 hours but thats it,somewhere in between my DH has become non-existant as he spends every minute on the computer running my business and no matter how much i tell him ive needed help it hasnt happened,he was helping me but now he not.until tonight i cried my eyes out and said i need hlep and thay nixon and me are his 1st priority not real estate agents,he been cranky and we been cranky at each other, not pressures from a baby, pressures from the real estate cretins...
.So i think in the circumstances im in no wonder im feeling liek this, also hard when im a bloody perfectionist and want things the right way,ie settling sleeping, today he played up and last night but he had a tummy ache as silly me increased his formula and feeds and it upset his belly and was constipated,i got a huge poop-explosion b4,caught that one on camera for his 21st lol...i think when it comes to nixon i have to just do what works for both and not try too hard and push things like strict routines as it upsets both of us...so far it works with the odd bad night,5 in 6 weeks is pretty good..
Sonya- remember just shout out if you need help, i wont push myself onto you but im always here if you need me, sometimes we just need to spend some time with another mother who is going through the same thing or i can come over with Caleb and help you look after Nixon while you either rest or have a shower or do whatever you need to do. I would much rather you are looking after yourself, only then can you look after Nixon as well. Like you said, hes a good bubba but they can sense if we are stressed out and this can affect their eating and sleeping habits, so maybe a bit of time out for you will help him to remember how to self settle again.
Like i said, i wont force it but all you have to do is say the word and i will do what i can for you.
