It is scary, Especially with the Little man. My DH is freaked out as he works in the city and is constantly worried about us. We have had two major fires close to us so far one was about 1 km away, that one is totally out now. The other is about 5km and is contained and had 10 trucks in attendance.
The CFA website isconstantly on in our house. The boy is crying again, So I'm off. I'll try and do some persinals when the DH is home.

Ren, good on you for persisting with bfing You and Ava have had a rough trot, you are doing really well.

Mel, how scary! Keep yourself and your family safe.

Jo, I didn't really shop around. I just bought the pack of 500 from Mothers' Direct when they had 20% off. I think they were $65 or so. They haven't arrived yet I've tried Jared in the Baby Beehinds without the liners, but he's just weeing right through them. I'm going to try him with an insert sometime over the next few days.

Sonya, don't think you're overreacting. Make sure you tell your doc how you feel. You need to look after yourself.

Have any of you girls signed up for a mother's group? My MG from Ben is awesome. I found it so good to have some people IRL that were going through the same things as me. We still get together on a regular basis and even have girls nights out together. Now there are quite a few of us who have new bubs... actually, nearly the whole group of ten has had another bub or is pg again so we're all going through it together. Really helpful to have somebody to talk to who knows exactly what you're going through.

We had a FABULOUS night last night! Jared slept for six hours straight, which is his best so far I got to sleep for five of it as Ben was awake for the first hour of Jared's six. Unfortunately Jared hasn't had a good day today - lots of wind. He's finally asleep now though

I had my six week check up today and I'm glad that's over with! DH is happy too because now that that's behind me I feel confident enough to DTD! Now I just have to get the energy to

Dis - that's unreal he slept 6hrs straight!!! Yay. Ava did that Weds after we got home from hospital last week from pure exhaustion however we can't let her go longer than 3hrs without a feed due to her weight gain issues. So no such luck for me!! maybe in couple of months time.

Does anyone know how we get our Bounty Bag?? I went public. I believe you get a Bounty Bag when you have your baby ? I never got one.....during PG yes at the beginning but haven't had one since having DD.

I didnt get one either Ren, i thought we were supposede to get it when we left the hospital??

I have my 6 week check up tomorrow, i hope they dont make us wait too long, the only appt time i could get is when Caleb is supposed to be sleeping so I dont want to still be in there when its time to wake up and feed him, poor little man, might bring a bottle with me and hope they have some hot water to heat it up with just in case.

Mel - keep yourself safe with the fire warnings, so far the winds havent picked up to 150kph like they were predicting, lets hope they get it all wrong and that way no one has to suffer.

Well my sister is now 11 days overdue and has been in hospital since 7.30am when they put the third lot of Gel on her cervix and apparantly they were breaking her waters at 7.30pm so lets hope by tomorrow i have a new little Neice, Maddison Emma, to gush over (in photos only darn it)

Hey everyone! Great to see you back Ren!! Hope you get Ava sorted out soon. Dash has reflux and the meds work (he is on Zantac and Gaviscon). So if the meds are working, it may be possible that she does have reflux....it was almost an instant improvement for Dash. If they aren't working maybe she is hungry. It's hard not knowing isn't it - this is where a crystal ball would be handy!! Look forward to hearing the update from the paed tomorrow.

Jo: Hope your neice arrives smoothly tonight. How exciting.

Mel: Keep safe!! Don't know how you do it....I would be sooooo scared.

Dis: Yeah on six hour sleeps!! It's hard trying to co-ordinate two isn't it. I am slowly winning that war lol!!

Ren: I got my bounty bag at hospital. They are under each of the cots at our hospital, along with a packet of huggies, johnsons baby wash and wipes. Inside that bounty bag is the ticket for the third bounty bag that you collect from Target (gender specific). The third bounty bag has a treat for DH in it so worth tracking your second bag down (that you should have got in hospi).

Well, my boy is so relaxed now that we have reflux meds in full swing. He slept 8 hours last night and has just chilled in his bouncey today. No real smiles yet but hoping before 8 weeks....he does think DD is amusing though and he has given her a few small ones. Needles in one week for dash...who can believe he is nearly 8 weeks already!!

    Gotta go,
    Linda

Jo- you truly are a gift from god,thank-you honey,,if i need you ill holler, hey i used hubbys bubzilla sling today, its way toooo big but nixon loved it n fell asleep and hey i actually got stuff done,so its either a hug-a-bub or a bubzilla for me...i would love to come to baby massage but i have nixon maternal health nurse visit..damn...if i need a chat or some help ill ring u,id love to catch up with u and caleb and might bring my camera along for some gorgeous photos....the least i could do

Ren - glad to see you're back again. Hope Ava continues to improve and you can put the problems of the past few weeks behind you.

Bon - I've been told that the MCHN usually contacts us about MG in the first 8 weeks. I haven't heard anything either yet, but at my last appointment she said if I still hadn't heard anything by the next appt (at 2 months) then I shoudl let them know. So I'm not worried yet.

Mel - Stay safe! My folks live in the bush about an hour from Melb. Although they have been lucky and not too close to any of the existing fires (the Bunyip and Gembrook ones were relatively close, but the wind was blowing away from them luckily), they will be in real danger if anything starts up near them. They are absolutely surrounded by trees. I think we've convinced Dad not to stay and fight after what happened to all those poor people on Black Saturday.

As for me, I think I've got a slight bout of mastitis. Max was acting very weird yesterday, sleeping lots and not really interested in playing, so I had the thermometer out to take his temperature (it was fine ). My friend was over and I had said how I felt terrible, so she suggested taking my temp - what do you know, 38+. My right breast was really sore, skin sore all over (like when I've had the flu) and thumping headache. Anyway, saw the doc and got some antibiotics and taking panadol, which seems to help. Downside to the antibiotics is the doc said they make bub's bowel movements a lot looser. I don't know how Max's could possible get any looser, and they're already watery

    hi everyone,
sorry it has been so long since I posted. I have been getting very little sleep here like some of you and hence,no time to post.

Ren - I really hope things improve for you - it has been a tough road, but I am glad you are getting help.

Amara is also experiencing some reflux - it was horrible night last night.......I think I got 2 hours sleep. she is not chucking up heaps, but seems to have tummy pains. we had someone over yesterday (nurse) to help, and these things are true:

    - I have loads of milk - too much for Amara and it comes down fast. so I am expressing about 20mls before certain feeds - nurse seems to think amara is only getting the first sugary milk which is causing probs.
    - she hiccups and has swallowing problems almost every time - feeding takes ages as I hold her upright as much as possible but so tiring at night.......

    - my diet - well, I don't have tea/coffee/chocolate/alchohol. I have cut out dairy for 4 days now and having soy milk. BUT i had a spicy home made pie last night and last night was bad for her..............was it the spice? who knows??
also told not to have citrus fruits and cut way down on sugar.

well, lets say, losing weight is a bit easier because of this...I have lost 11 kgs in just over 2 weeks and only 3kgs off my pre preg weight now and Amara is only 3 weeks, 6 days old!

    any advice is always welcome.

Jo - I have read about your settling methods and checked out the baby whisperer website. It has helped - but I hope you don't mind if I ask for your advice at another time...right now, gotta go -feed time..

Runnermum, not sure if you will be willing to give this a go but i went to see a natropath about my little girls collic and i was reccommended Nursing Tea, its great because it has fennell and dill and lemon in it which helps with their tummies it worked a treat for Eva-Marie. I also checked with Tresillian and they did advise me that in some cultures fennell is used but she said to just try boiling water cooled down (only 20 to 20 mls)
For those of you who are bottle feeding how long do your little ones sleep at night?

Runner - no worries, im here if youd like some advice and if its helpful then all the better

Just went for my 6 week checkup, everything is good, put on 10kgs in preg and have lost 12kgs. Caleb decided it was the perfect time to do poos like hes never done them before, they went everywhere!! all up his back and on the change mat, on his feet (cos he kicked in it) i had to strip him completely naked and change all his clothes cos they had poo all over it, I had to laugh cos ive been waiting for it to happen, just not as the dr called my name!!!
man it was expensive though, i had a papsmear done at the same time and so she charged me double so it cost me $100!!!! i know i get some of it back with medicare but dont they realise new mothers especially dont have that kind of money floating around!
Well im tired and have just put Caleb down for his 2.30 nap, so im off to have a nap too!

thanks Jo, hope you are having a nice nap.

Great weight loss - good on ya! I was a skinny size 8 (some would say!, I say just right for a runner!) before I got pregnant, so being 3kgs still on me seems big to me. I am now a size 12 in the chest - wow - biggest ever for me.

Amara is sleeping well during the day today - I did try and have a morning nap, but couldn't sleep well but rested at least for an hour.

I consider a good day to be if
    1. I get to go for a run, ride or swim or combination of these AND
    2. Get laudry done OR
    3. Get some cooking done OR
    4. Get shopping done OR
    5. Catch up on paperwork re my sons schooling, or filing done etc.. and catch up on emails.

    what about you girls????

I just want a good nights sleep (which I would consider 4 hours!!)

Runner, if I get ANYTHING done I consider it a good day
I had the same sort of problem with my milk. Jared was snacking all day and was only getting the sugar-rich milk at the beginning of the feed. He was really unsettled from that. I had a few days of expressing (I had bleeding nipples too ) and with the full on feed from the bottle of EBM, he settled right down. After that we've been much better

I have NO time right now. Off for another feed. Jared slept for five hours last night, that's two really good nights in a row - woohoo! (Probably jinxed myself now! )

Runner - I second what Disgirl says! If i can get anything done, then i'm doing well sorry to hear Amara has some reflux too. If you have too much milk (wish i had that problem! i dont have enough at the moment and building my supply up again) you can b.feed lying down.... does that help you? have you tried that?

In a typical day I usually manage to get a load of washing on and sometimes fold some clothes. Stack the dishwasher.... the rest of the time I'm either expressing in between feeds, sterilising bottles ready for next feed and settling Ava or sleeping aswell while she sleeps!

I just put Ava down now for hopefully a 2hr sleep so I am off to get some sleep too.
Had a pretty good night last night. she slept from 11pm til 3am and then after 3am feed she slept pretty well woke up couple of times but settled herself so i didn't need to help her fall back asleep. It was a good night

While my right nipple heals (cracked, damaged and was bleeding!) I've been expressing from it only as it's way too painful to b.feed with. Also, expressing L side too but sometimes feeding from that side. So Ava is now getting top up's of formula aswell as expressed EBM. She is gaining weight and has put on 100g in one day!!!!!!!
Her reflux doesn't seem to be so bad now and we are managing it with the Losec and homeopathic drops. Hopefully going off Losec this week.

Orange - Paed appointment went well. He was happy with her weight gain and said as long as she gets 75ml every 3hrs at least, she will gain weight well. Well, she takes at least 100ml every 3hrs so no probs there LOL and perhaps it was silent reflux as the medicine seems to have helped!! Ava is so much more content and happy. and usually goes down pretty quick after a feed or is happy to just look around and we talk to her and poke our tongue at her and she pokes it back! so cute......

Would do personals but I'd prefer to catch my sleep while I can !!!

Hey all....proud mummy moment - Dash gave me the biggest smile EVER last night....what a melting moment.

Runner: You asked for advice....I'm sure you know all of this but to help reflux you should feed upright (which I think I read you were doing) and keep her upright for half hour afterwards, prop the cot mattress up on an incline, burp by rubbing not patting and over shoulder instead of knee so back is out straight and tum not squashed, smaller feeds more often. Can't really help with the oversupply of milk because I have never breastfed he he....but doesn't it settle at about 6 weeks??

Dash spends every second sleep in his bouncy sitting up....this seems to help. Also DS reflux is worse in the arvo due to colic so I burp before a feed and have him 'snack' at the bottle for an hour. I put Gaviscon in his bottle (not sure how this works with breastfeeding) and this stops the vomiting and the acid coming up the back of the throat by acting as the valve that keeps his food in the stomach. If Amara is hard to settle it may be because the acid is burning her throat when laying down....dash is harder to settle without his meds and wakes up constantly....doesn't take a full feed and seems to be feeding every awake time he gets....so nothing gets done. The Zantc simply changes the acid so it doesn't burn if he does vomit. Meds are quite drastic but we had no option, tried everthing else. Ayway, we have had no reflux for over a week now (except for when a friend fed him and didn't follow our procedure) so will keep up the meds.

Ren: Glad Ava is gaining....still don't know how Dash gained his weight with all the vomit he he. 100mL is excellent - well done Ava!!! Dash has only just gone up to 125mL (should be on about 150-180mL by now) but with a thickened formula they tend to take less....that should answer your question too Bon!! Have you tried giving Ava some thickener before a feed? I think you mix it with breastmilk before a feed when BF. Not sure how you feel about that so will leave the thought with you!!

Bon: Hope Nixon had a settled night last night!!

    Big hello to everyone else.

    GTG Linda xx

Hi girls, well im extremely emotional today, my little neice was born this morning and its just killing me that im not there (my family lives in NZ)
I cried this morning about it and i just want to cry about it all day, its ripping my heart. I want to take my boy and fly home for awhile, i want my family to meet Caleb and I want to meet my neice Maddison. I feel this horrible ache, almost like she were my own baby and Im not allowed to hold her!

Im not sure what to do with this feeling, i know i really want to spend more time with my boy because of it only because he gives me such joy just looking at his little face but i cant keep him awake forever....

I cant go home, not right now, we dont ahve the money and i have to apply for Caleb to get citizenship in NZ (which also costs $200) cos Australia wont accept him untill he is 10 years old because we are both NZers. and without his citizenship sorted he cant get a passport

my poor hubby doesnt know what to do with me, he cant fix it and thats all he wants to do.....

    Hi everyone

Sorry I haven't been posting much - busy times for us atm.

My nurse said that at first if you can just get out of your pj's, look after Bub and have a shower & wash your hair or something then you are doing well. That is all I really did for the first 6 weeks or so. I do more than that now but I think for the first month or two you shouldn't expect too much from yourself (nor should anyone around you).

Jo - Big Hugs. Can't imagine how hard it must be for you.

Ren - 100g weight gain for Ava in 1 day?!?! That is FANTASTIC. Well Done to both of you.

orange - We've been sleeping Sam in his bouncer too; for at least 2 sleeps during the day. He just seems so much more relaxed since we've been doing it. He likes to be elevated. And, he has a terrible flat head on one side because he favours that side. In the bouncer he sleeps on the other side so hopefully his flat side will start to disappear soon.

Mel - hope you all stayed safe down there. Sounds so scary.

We're doing well. Can't believe how quickly they grow, Sam was really unsettled for about 72hrs after his injections last week but he is settled again now. Poor little man, it was awful seeing him so unsettled. Saturday he didn't sleep for about 6 hours straight. I was very nervous about that!
