Hi ladies,
Had our last appointment with my birth centre midwife today which was a bit sad cos she's been with me since I was 12 weeks pregnant. we got her a day trip to Couran Cove for her and her hubby to say thanks for everything because she really went all out for me with all these feeding issues. Amy and I are having a cruisy day at home today. I went for a big walk yesterday with a friend and then had another friend come and visit so today is going to be a quiet one. Lots of sleeping I think. Mark is sick with a cold at the moment. It's killing him cos he can't go near Amy. He's working too hard too. This time of year is the Quiksilver Pro surfing event which means that he's pretty MIA away from me for 3 weeks. I hate it. Only 12 days to go though which is a relief. Not that I'm counting! hehehe.
Kate - Doesn't it feel great when you make the decision about your feeding. Breast and bottle is working for us at the moment and Amy is putting on plenty of weight so I'm going to continue this until my bbs give up. My right one pretty much has anyway so I look extremely lopsided but oh well. It will be interesting to see what happens when I finish this herb tonic, whether my bbs keep working. I really don't mind if I have to go to full time formula. But it's still nice to bf for as long as I can.
April - Isn't the time going so fast!? I can't wait for Amy to smile either. I sometimes think she's trying too. She stares so hard at me sometimes. Have you found that people are telling you not to worry too much about milestones because Bodie was prem? They've been telling me that but I'm so impatient! Hehehe.
Jen - I've been programmed to feed Amy every time she wakes up but I'm slowly getting myself out of that and will cuddle her and have a tiny play before I feed her unless she's really crying. At night, I just feed her, cuddle her and wrap her and put her back to bed. I try not to stimulate her too much. I change her nappy between changing from breast to bottle.
Bindy - Madeleine has grown sooooo much!! That's great. Makes me feel like Amy is tiny though. She's only just got over the 4 kg mark and I was excited that she was 56cm long! Hehehe. It's amazing how different all babies are.
Well, I better go have something to eat while my angel is sleeping. Hope you are all doing well. It's SOOOOO hot here today!
Luv Nik and Amy xx

Hi everyone!
We use the Brauer Colic relief and have found it quite good. It was the only thing suitable to use for Celeste before the age of 1month. I wanted to get her off of it but the midwife/ child health nurse said to keep it going for a little while longer till we know the problem has really settled. She doesnt get every does anyhow cause often she is asleep when the time comes round. It must be sooo sweet though cause I can really smell the sugar in it!
Celeste has turned the corner now. I think she had the combination of the wonder week thing happening a little early, a mild cold and the bf problems all build up on her for a week or two but now it all seems to be working out ok. She is really wolfing her feeds down now but much less colicky. And her weight gain has improved HEAPS this past week. She took a month to get to 3kg... last week she only gained 160g in 9days but she gained 230g in 7days this past week. The nurse was really happy with that. I have put her into cloth nappies now and they help fill out her clothes a bit better now too. Still in 0000 though. She has a million summery 000 clothes given to her which I dont know if she will get use of.
Yesterday I was so pleased. We were waiting to see the nurse for weighing and Celeste was squirming and grizzling in her pram so I got her out and knew right away that she wanted her nappy changed. There is a change table in the wait area so I did it straight away and when I took her nappy off she gave me the biggest smile so far like she was saying "thanks Mum that is exactly what I wanted" . It was great!!! Made me feel so good for knowing what she wanted and she really appreciated it. So nice. Funny how you can get so happy about changing a nappy!
Nik, you get to feel so close to the midwife hey? I did a handmade card yesterday and took it up to the hospital for them. I know that several of them really put in extra effort with us with our BF problems too and that took them away from their other work. Also the midwife who cared for us on the night of the birth really did listen to our concerns and preferences.
Someone was talking about their birth making them teary. I have been the same. I think I cried every day for the first two and a half weeks when I thought about it and how scary it was. I also felt dissapointed by having to have the caesarian. I know in my head that it had to be that way and it is still a birth to be celebrated but I guess I felt a bit ripped off. Also because it may be our only one and I might never get the chance again. I feel like I missed out a bit.
At our antenatal class the midwife talked a lot about what a wonderful experience birth is. The euphoric feelings as the baby is born etc etc. I wish they wouldnt go on about it like that. It is like that for hardly anyone I know actually. Most ppl are that wiped out by the intensity of the pain or the length of the labour or the drama of something not going right. Then there is the stitches, sore boobs and hormones gone mad. I think they should just say: It hurts a lot, it is scary, you will feel overwhelmed, things probably wont go how you think and afterwards will be the same.. but it is totally worthwhile. That would be a whole lot more honest!!! People ask me how things are going and I tell them "great now, the first 2 weeks were pretty hard and awful but things are fantastic now."
A few weeks ago someone asked if things were going well and I said "yes, mostly". She surprised me by saying "they arent really are they, if we are all honest" meaning for the first weeks for everyone. I was so pleased that she said that instead of making me feel I should say "yeah everything is great" when it wasnt at that stage.
Cant remember what else I was going to talk about... been a few days.
About the wrapping. Celeste hates it. We did it in the hospital but then they used it when we went back for the bf help which she found a bit traumatic I think (she got VERY upset) and now she fights as soon as I start to do it. I am glad she is a summer baby. Will probably get a sleeping bag for winter...
Hmm , think that is about it... Hope everyones babies keep getting better at sleeping and feeding....

Gawd I wrote so much that 2 ppl came in and posted while I was doing it!
Good to see you Maz. Come in whenever you want. We want you in the good times and the bad!!!!! Thats what we are here for silly. :):grouphug:
Jess, isnt it a great feeling when you feel you are getting the hang of different things? Far out there is so much to learn though. You are doing great for this early stage:thumbsup:
-
Hi Maz- dont stay away. You can vent all you want. Geez I do!. This mothering caper sure is hard and you have 3 other kids to worry about too. We are only at day 9 here so we have a long way to get to the month.
Jess- Glad to hear you are getting along well. Amber had a good sleep this morning and has been a bit unsettled this arvo. We have tried a couple of times to put her down but to no luck.
The maternal health nurse came out this arvo. Amber has put on 190 grams since Monday. So we are just about birth weight now. So I must be giving her enough. She was sleeping soundly when the nurse came and now she is taking awhile to settle down.
We went for another walk this morning in the stroller. Amber was good the first bit but I ended up carrying her home for the second half.
I am now going to try and push the sleep button on her.
-
sazz - yer i love knowing what Jaylen wants too, when i do it he kinda looks rightttt into my eyes lol, sooo cute! or when i pick him up when hes crying he nuzzles into me!
yer i agree theres sooo much to learn and get used to!
Jay absolutly HATES being wrapped too, liked it for like 3 days in the hospital but yer HATES it hehe, and when i put blankets on him in bed they have to be like under his arms, he HAS to have his arms free hehe
jen - seems like amber is getting a bit better! Jaylens gotten better as he's got older....
ohhh yay hes still asleep lol! managed to have a shower as well, amazing :p
its tea time soon so hes sure to wake up right on tea time lol... not going to put anything on yet cuz my luck he will wake for a feed when its cooking!

omg jaylens still asleep, been asleep since about 2 lol its awsome! actually managing to have some tea hehe!
-
Hey Maz honey, glad you're back!! Don't ever feel you have to stay away because you aren't feeling the best, sharing always helps & we are all here for you. :)
Joanne, Infants Friend is like Infacol, suppossed to help them bring the wind up when you give them a dose before a feed. Smells of aniseed though which is gross but Scally gulps it down.
Jess, I'm not sure about Maz but I top Scally up when she's had both bbs & still fusses or gets frustrated... means it's all gone!!
That mobile sounds like just the ticket, we don't have a mobile here, will have to go shopping for one.
Welcome back Bindy ;) You'll have to share more pics of your princess in her new outfits!!
-
Queen - I dont top up Mateauz through the day but I do at night cause its helping him to get more sleep ;) - 11 until 5.30 last night and I get some rest this way aswell. But I agree, when Mat gets narky at starting hitting into me (pmsl) that when we give him his formula. Babies hit a 6 week growth spurt to so Im putting it down to that.
OMG my little man is 7 weeks on tuesday!! holly $hit!
-
queenmab - oh yer cool, i think i have plenty of milk, Jaylen hardly ever cries lol! sooo good!
maz - ohh how quick is the time going, i remember when we were all like 16 weeks pregnant!! my pregnancy was the quickest time of my life i reckon! now is going pretty quick too, feels like only yesterday i had Jaylen and hes 2 weeks old already!
well Jaylens just sitting in his bouncer watchin tv hehe! hes suchhhh a good baby... gives me time to eat ect haha!
-
Well we all get quite chatty in here don't we!
We went to a funeral yesterday from 2pm-7pm and Madeleine was excellent! She's a good bub, no crying at all! Before we left though, she did an explosive poo! It went up the front of her nappy and was all over her belly and chest, it was everywhere! My DP was carrying her shoulders and I had her legs up to the bedroom and then into a bath, I have never seen that much poo in my life!!!
I so love being a Mum too, Madeleine is smiling so much at me now and it totally melts my heart :)
Hope everyone has a good day today. We'll be lazing by the pool...
-
Maz, nice to see you around mate. Gonna give you a call later. Yesterday sucked for making phone calls. :(
BTK woke at 5.30am and stayed awake until probably 11am! Michael came for a visit with his daughter so it was nice for them to see him awake but Jesus. He better sleep until 8pm now! pmsl Must be exhausted.
I'm so tired - I read all the posts but can't remember what everyone said.
Jess and Jen, sounds like Amber and Jaylen are settling a little more. That's great. Jen, glad to hear Amber's put on that weight. You're obviously doing everything right! :)
Well, I need just a little nap... I'll be back later.
Hi to everyone!!!
x
-
bindy - Jaylen did a poo the day day we got home that went all the way up his back lol, was funny, was also a bit hard to clean up as it was still that black sticky stuff LOL
kate - Jaylens starting to stay awake a bit more now, hes in a little bit of a routine already i think, wakes up at about 2.30am for a feed, then about 6.30am then about 9am and hes awake from then on, then feeds at about 12 or 1 and might fall asleep, then feeds at 4 or 5 and thats usually his unsettled time till bout 9 or 10 and then sleeps until about 2.30am again!
well he had a bigger feed than b4 so so hopefully he should fall asleep for the arvo, has the hiccups atm hehe

Happy Saturday everyone
Have missed a couple of days so wont mange many personals.
Welcome back Maz, we were all concerned not having heard from you. Matty looks gorgeous in your ticker.
Sazz, your description of your feelings after the birth sounds exactly like me. I was so teary and disappointed in the caesar, and yes a feeling of missing out on that natural birth experience that I may never get. But I can justify it too witth such a beautiful result. Mixed up hey!
Addy has had such a good week. I have most certainly just jinxed myself now too!!
Having some longer settled sleeps, more awake time, and I got my first full on beaming smile. Bet she couldnt figure out why I started crying!! (tears of happiness!) I had been so paranoid that her first smiles would be at someone else- like Granny or a total stranger!
Stood on the scales at home with her, and she is now 5kg- doesnt fit 0000 or newborn nappies anymore!
Bought the maclaren Vogue pram. Suitable for newborn (fully reclines) and only weighs 6-7kg (better than my Beema at almost 12kg) Not really cheap but I couldnt go past tthe ease of use and good quality. It will be suitable till like 20kg of child! Will also be able to travel with it better. Thanks Nik and April for your advice. I looked at a million prams over the last few days though!
Anyway hello to everyone!:)
-
My poor girl wont sleep. We have put her down a few times today and she will wake within 15 minutes. Also her dirty nappies have changed. I am a little worried about that. They were the classic yellow seed ones but last night and today they have been the browny/yellowy frothy kind. That and the fact she wont sleep is making me worried...... I have also been feeding her a few times today.
If the nappies dont get better or if she stays grizzly by Monday, I will take her to the doctors.
-
Jen, have you got the phone number for the midwife/nurse thingy that's open 24/7??? I'll go look for mine and text it to you. My friend (who has 3 children) said she used to call them nearly every day to ask things with her first. She said they're awesome. Sometimes though she says you are on hold for quite a bit - especially at night. Maybe call them? I'll go look now.
x
-
mary - aww i cant wait till Jaylen smiles, his lips are starting to curl up a little bit so it could be soon lol.. he's starting to go into some 000 already 2! hes 0000 in the body but he's got really big feet so he needs 000 for them hoofers hehe!
jen - yer i reckon ring ur midwives for sure, u dont need them worries and im sure they will have answers for u! Jaylen had them frothy kinda poos for a few days, now they are yellowy again with little seedy bits that stick to his bum haha!
-
Jen - I hope everything is okay with your princess, might she just be having an unsettled day? Have you topped her up with formula at all, that could explain the change in poos? Worrying about every little thing to do with these munchkins is exhausting!! *hugs*
Maz, Scally is generally good at night so I just bf (easier in the dark too lol) but mega hungry mid morning/lunchtime which is when I've found I need to break out the formula.
Hawksey, good to hear everything is going well, I know all about jinxing so I hope you've not done that!
Miss has been pretty unsettled today, just catnapping really, she is asleep atm but she's not been down for very long, she keeps coming unwrapped too... I keep going in there to arms & legs flailing.... she's too big for her wraps almost. Does anybody use a swaddleme or something similar?
-
OMG, what I wouldn't do for b/f poo! Formula poo STINKS! he he he...
Did you girls ever think that poo would be such a hot topic? ;)
pmsl!
-
LOL kate, yer bf poo hardly smells at all!
-
Yeah, Jess, I miss it even... pmsl! ;)
-
HEHE, I was reading in a magazine the things that people didnt realise before they had a baby and one was "I should have appreciated BF poos while they lasted" I had a chuckle at that one. Yeah, I know what my own are like and I'm not looking forward to cleaning up foody type ones. Lucky that is some months off yet. lol.
I jinxed myself yesterday!!! Celeste was feeding so heartily that she had MAJOR wind/colic all last evening. I ended up calling the healthline for advice on how to help.... I was at my wits end as she was in agony and nothing was working. She hasnt been that bad for a week or more. I ended up giving her a half dose of panadol to take the pain away and relax her. She was that tense and that was stopping the gas passing through. I feel kinda bad that I gave her drugs at only 5weeks of age but it sure helped. I had already given her a warm lavender bath and massaged her belly for ages plus done the bicycle thing with her legs etc. It worked in about 10mins and then she had a send off feed and slept for like nearly 7hours which she really needed.
Gotta go, more visitors grrrrr..
-
Hi ladies,
Just wanted to say hi. I'm so jealous of all you ladies who have received your first smile! Everyone keeps telling me that I need to go by Amy's adjusted age for milestones because she was premmie so I shouldn't worry if she is a bit behind all the other bubs. She stares straight at me now though and is starting to lift her head quite a bit during tummy time. I don't think it will be long before I get the long awaited smile. She's stopped sucking like crazy on my left boob now so I have a feeling it's starting to give up on the milk supply too but I've dealt with it now and we'll just take it as it comes. At least I can say I've given her breast milk for as long as possible.
Mark's been pretty sick this past week and hasn't been able to hold her which has been absolute torture for him. He's getting better now so tonight she's going to be able to cuddle with daddy which will be a treat.
I know what you mean about poos being smelly. Even just a bit of formula makes them stink!
Well, I better go. My little angel is due for a feed any minute. Chat soon lovely ladies and bubs xx Nik and Amy
-
Well my girl has not slept for more than about 20 minutes today. She is SO tired and we dont know what we can do to settle her.
We had visitors here from 2pm til about 7pm with 2 loud kids. We have decided to top her up tonight with formula so hopefully she can sleep. I am so worried that she has not had any sleep today. If she wont sleep I will call the maternal health line... and she has not pood since this morning.
My poor girl
-
Jenjams, good luck on settling your little one tonight
-
jen good luck 2night! if she doesnt settle i would ring the nurse!
i wouldnt worry about the poo's, midwives told me that some babies goes 2 or 3 days without pooing when their newborns and if it happened not to worry! she's weeing yer!? does she fall asleep on ur chest after a feed? if so let her do that and just walk around rocking her for about 20 mins and then carefully put her down, see if that works lol...
well jaylens asleep i think so i might go to bed now too... im getting way more sleep than i thought i would get, its great! prob getting about 6-7 hours a night!
-
Wow Jess, you are very lucky! I hope he keeps that up for you!
-
Well after not sleeping all day yesterday, I ended up calling the maternal health nurse. She has been feeding fine, she does not cry too much (unless we put her down) she looked tired, just every time we put her down she would stay quiet for 10 minutes then wake up and cry. The nurse said we should take her into the hospital and get her checked over. We bathed her and I fed her and we put her to bed... She slept from 10 til 7. She was so tired from yesterday that the poor thing slept all night. I dont want her in that habit. My main problem is she is sleepy during the day, we put her down and she is asleep. She will wake herself up 10 minutes later and then be totally awake.....
-
time for a new thread everyone
