Hi to Cherryblossom welcome! As I have said to Lunesoleil I love the name Amelie!! It was on my shortlist (we went for a family name instead!!) She looks beautiful.
Thanks But i think she's going to have to spell it out to people a lot because I often get "Emily"? when I tell people her name!

Mmm....wow i haven't been on this thread all day and there's been a lot happening...I'm not sure how all this get started before I open my big mouth, but anyway..

About going on solids...Amelie seems to be the youngest bub here being born on the 30th Jan. I haven't started her on solids yet, but I'm kinda half looking forward to it because hopefully she will gain some weight!!

Someone said that you shouldn't be so by-the-books about weight gain, but there's a reason why I'm especially paranoid about her weight gain.. this is because when she was born she was 3.3 kg. the nurses told me to "demand feed" whenever she seems hungry, which was what i did, or at least I thought I did - I was looking out for her hunger signs but I must have missed them or something??? she was sleeping a lot during the first 2 days. anyway, the day after we came home from the hospital, she had to be readmitted to hospital again, due to jaundice which resulted in her losing more than 10% of her birth weight (she was down to 2.95kg). she had to undergo phototherapy for the jaundice, and she was put on a strict 3 hourly feeding schedule 24/7.

so the point is that, after that happened, I lost all confidence in me as a mum (first time or otherwise) and to make sure she gets enough to eat, i stopped demand feeding and started feeding her at every little sign of hunger (ie, every little sound, LOL), and if she doesn't give any signs when 3 hr's up, i feed her anyway.

I think my bub's just got no appetite?? She seems happy all the time, rarely cries, and doesn't seem hungry all that much? I tried "demand feeding" a month ago again, but after about 5 hrs, I gave up and fed her, because she didn't seem to want to feed!!!

I'm not that petite (168cm, 55kg pre-baby - not telling my weight now ) and neither is DH, but maybe our bub is just going to be small? Maybe she'll grow later...

OH, HAPPY 6 MONTHS MAZ's LITTLE MAN!!!

Hi Cherryblossum! This thread isn't usually like it was yesterday, rest assured...

Just with regards to your bub and demand feeding... My Billy (who was born on Jan 24th) lost 15% of his bodyweight after we came out of hospital. I was so upset. We couldn't work out what was wrong but as it turned out, I had no milk! It was due to massive blood loss during the birth or something, so we had to go onto formula, after trying to increase milk supply by expressing, medication etc.

Anyway, Billy could go for ages without wanting a feed. Sometimes I worry but the MCHN has told me not to. As long as they are gaining weight and doing ok, it doesn't matter. He is still only having the amount of formula that it says on the tin a 4 month old would have but they reckon it's ok.

Neither myself or my partner are at all petite (in fact, I think I fall into the obese category.. LMAO) but Billy is little. He's long but lean.

I wouldn't worry yourself too much as long as Amelie is going ok.

yes this thread is usually very NICE hehe!

jo i think she might have been talking about what i said hehe BUT ANYWAY with all that sorted out im back!!

welcome cherryblossom! im sure your doing great as a mother!!! jay was like that in the hospital, one night he slept for about 7 hours, and the nurses pretty much told me off for not feeding him like every 3-4 hours... hello he was asleep and didnt make any noise for me to wake up, what was i sposed to do, just stay awake all night... you prob dont have to feed her every 3 hours now, jay sometimes goes 4 or 5 hours in the daytime without a feed and then sleeps for about 7-12 hours at night !

isnt it weird how our babies weight are different to ours? im not that fat LOL, was about 65kgs pre baby and ditto cherryblossom im not saying my weight now either hehe... but yer jay was 9lb1 when he was born and is a pretty chubby baby! weird isnt it

well im off to do some housework i think!

hi Cherryblossum and Amelie. I love that name.

I agree with the other girls as long as your little girl is happy then bugger everyone else. They are all different. My Amber was born way overdue and was 10lb 4 (I had the biggest baby!) DF and I are both tall people and I am solid. Amber was following the 90th-97th percentiles for most things til her 4 month checkup. She is now back to the pack in weight but is still tall. She feeds 3 hourly during the day but overnight she goes about 10 hours.
She is nearly 5 months and we started solids yesterday. She was reaching out for our food so we think she is ready.

Amelie has so much hair too. We are jealous! My little girl if follically challenged at the moment but her hair is getting thicker slowly (apart from the bald patch on the back) and it is getting redder.

Hello ladies - well.... just as well I've been slack lol, no chance to get in on the action in here! I always miss the interesting things... lol, just kidding.

Hope this posting keeps up though - not just through controversy mind, it's good to come in here & find things to read... who would'a thunk it?! Haha.

Kate - I crack up everytime I see your freaking handle, it's too funny!! Thanks for that, just for having the courage to 'be' Billy Ocean.....!

Maz, what a gorgeous post to your little man. *snuffle*

I got Punky a peg-pergeo highchair from the oppy today for TEN BUCKS!! Oooh yeah baby, that's what I call a bargain. Will have to check out the toy sales now to spend the money I saved lol.

Punky had some rice cereal yesterday & today - ran out of yoghurt & thought she'd now become accustomed to lunch so tried it again (she hated it the first time) & she loved it. Tried her with some carrot tonight, oohparently not a huge fan lol. I can't believe how big she's getting, not a itty bitty baby anymore!!

She'll be 6 months tomorrow - anyone know how to freeze time... just for a little tiny teensy weeny little while...?!

    Evening all!
    Its nice in here today.

QM, good one on the bargain high chair! I got talked into a chicco polly. Expensive but I like it!

Speaking of expensive, I entered Addie into the "Pride of the Nation" Photo book (pay $ donation to the bonnie babes foundation-get your bubs phots taken and it goes in this beauiful book) Anyway, of course they take other photos too and we got roped into buying some overpriced piccies which we will love but will take awhile to pay for... !!

Maz, love the sloppy kiss!! Addie only does that when she is tired and trying to find the boob!!

Going to have an early night. Have been getting up with my little one 2 times a night for the last week, she has a cold and gets snuffly and it wakes her up.

    SO night all x

    LOL @ follically challenged! Cute.

My Amelie was born with a head full of hair - I really don't know where it all came from! That pic on my avatar is Amelie at 10 weeks old. I had to cut her fringe shorter a couple of weeks ago, because it was getting in the way of her eyes! I can tie her hair up in pigtails. I have enmassed quite a collection of cute clips for her hair, and it's growing by the minute Oh, how I love being a mummy to a little girl

Yes I agree with you all about the weight thing, but I guess it's in our nature as mums to worry about these things....can't help it.

Billy Ocean - yep, my milk hadn't come in, or I had very little, and that was why A lost all that weight And she was also the same as your bub, Jess, because she was sleeping and I thought "demand feeding" meant not waking her up to feed her...So I did not feed her that much because she was sleeping all the time. But look what happened..my LO lost all that weight For a 1st time mum it was all v confusing for me at first, and I blamed myself for her being readmitted to hospy. So yeah, I guess next time I'll be more careful and feed my next bubba more often in the early days (sleeping or not), to prevent jaundice and weight loss.

QM - that is such a BARGAIN and a half!! I wish I have the patience to go op shopping, or the time for that matter. I mostly do online shopping.

I'm tossing up b/w the Ikea high chair or the Stokke Trip Trapp atm - they're both at different ends of the price spectrum! On the one hand, I heard great things about the Ikea chair and also it's so cheap, but i like the fact that with the Trip Trapp, A can sit with us, and also it can be turned into a toddler chair later. But it is so expensive, so not sure whether it's worth it.

I've set a date to start A on solids - Saturday 26 July!! YAY! It's a Saturday because I work full-time and I want to be relaxed and not rushed. Can't wait to do it...

    Hello ladies...

Gosh.. I've been reading the posts via email updates...and I usually read them either 1st thing in the morning or last thing before I sleep and I loved reading about other mums and bubs etc etc then "that thing" happened and it was quite unpleasant.. and yes.. that never happened on this forum before!!!
    Hope it doesn't happen again!
You guys are always soooooo supportive and I do come here for support and bounce ideas etc...

Cherryblossom: how funny.... NO ONE (except for those who'd watched the movie) can pronounce Amelie and I'm getting tired.....
Even my hub won't pronounce it the same way that I want it...
My MiL is the worst offender calling her "Emily".
My parents bounce from Ah-melie to Emelie... *sigh*.. what do you think we can do??
My hub just goes.. we'll let her decide on the pronounciation when she grows up...;-)
If ppl can't say Ah-melie.. at least they can say Emelie not Emily!!...
She has a Korean middle name and we're thinking of changing that to the first name and make Amelie as middle name.. .and of course.. my PiL had a go at pronouncing it and yup.. it was a challenge... why why why??! :P
    Ah.. it's just tooooo hard!!!
I dunno if I should just give up the fight or keep soldering on...
I keep thinking about ways to nicely tell my in laws that they are calling her the wrong name...but every time I try or see them.. doesn't happen...

Does anyone have the same issue? Hahaha.. prolly not... I had to choose a name that was hard!!

Also we ended up buying trip trapp...I was gonna get $70 love n care one when it was on sale at ToysRUs.. but they'd run out and not restocking as it's being disconnd...
I also looked at getting Ikea one as it had good reviews.. but my bub's small so I needed something w/ 5 point harness to keep her safely in there...
Just after I bought trip trapp I saw a nice compact looking Infa one on sale for $99 at Kmart I think.. I wouldn't have minded that if I saw it earlier!!
Some of the steelcraft & preg prego ones looked too bulky....
Trip trap is so far so good.. We haven't started Amelie on solids yet but we're getting her to sit w/ us at the table when we eat and it's been good so far...but yes.... it's sooooo expensive.. and I feel very guilty about buying something that expensive... (but got 10% off!!)

Queenmab - Happy 6 mths to Punky!!!! Gosh I freaked out when I read your post... I would've had a heart attack too....dear me....my sister used to sleep w/ her eyes open...when we went to camps she used to freak her friends out haha...

Enough from me.... Have a great day everyone!!! *hugz*
