We had a great night at my parents' house on Christmas Eve. Cooper was really good. I was a bit worried as he was sooky the day before at Mark's parents' house. But he was all smiles and having fun playing. He enjoyed opening all his presents. Got some great photos. He didn't want to nap though and took both Mark and I a while to get him to have one. Later in the evening I bathed him and put him to sleep for the night. He was fine. But then he woke around 9.30 pm. He had woken at 10.00 pm grizzling the night before. So very very weird. He usually sleeps from 6.30 pm to 5.00 am. Anyway I took this as a cue to go home. There was no point re-settling him. I was getting tired anyway and had to drive (35 minute drive). He fell asleep in the car and stayed asleep when we got home and I moved him to the cot. Then he slept until 5.00 am. Yay!
Christmas Day was more present opening and Cooper tasted his first solids – wrapping paper!!! Ew! I wasn't quick enough he had chewed on the paper so much it went soggy and I found some in his mouth. Oops! Then we headed out to Mark's sister's for lunch. It was a great day. Cooper was fairly good too. Had a few sooky moments but generally okay. He missed out on one whole nap but didn't get too cranky. He had he very first swim in the pool which he didn't like very much. I guess he's used to warm bath water!
Then that night Cooper cried out a few times and we found him in weird positions in the cot. But he didn't wake fully until 3.30 am and I had to feed him then. Damn!
We visited some friends on Boxing Day arvo. Mark stayed until late but I went home to do Cooper's bath and bed. I was so sick of trying to put him to sleep at other people's houses!
I have noticed that Cooper is very unsettled at night at the moment. I have a few ideas why:
1. He is too excited by being able to roll and wants to do it all the time.
2. He is trying to crawl.
3. He is teething.
4. All the socialising at Christmas has mucked him up.
As of Christmas Eve he finally remembered how to roll from tummy to back so now he can go both ways and is constantly wriggling in his cot.
So now I need to figure out what his "problem" is!!! Last night we went to Mark's parents' house for dinner. I did Cooper's bath and last feed at home and then we went over (they're only about a 3 minute drive away). We forgot Cooper's portacot so we tried to put Cooper to sleep on a bed. He wouldn't have a bar of it. He kept crying. Neither Mark nor I could settle him. I even tried giving him a feed but he wouldn't have it.
Dinner was then served so we just brought Cooper out to the table with us. He sat on my knee while I ate. He was all happy then. He smiled at everyone and tried to grab my plate and enjoyed banging his hands on the table. He did get a little cranky after a while but that was understandable as he ALWAYS goes to bed between 6.00 pm and 6.30 pm. It was now about 7.30 pm.
We scoffed down dessert so we could get home as Cooper was getting wriggly and was so tired. He fell asleep in the car and didn't stir when I put him in his cot.
But then he woke at 10.00 pm crying. He's done this a few times in the past couple of days. I went in and he was rolling around the place. I patted his bum and he went back to sleep. Then he woke crying at 11.00 pm, 11.30 pm and I think 2.00 am. It's all a blur now. Mark settled him as well.
But then he slept until just after 5.00 am – his normal wake up time. I tried just getting him up and changing his nappy instead of doing a feed straight away. He cried a lot while I was changing him but then he seemed very settled back in his cot. But it was shortlived and he only lay quietly for about 10-15 minutes. Still it was something. So I fed him at 5.30 am. I decided to start my day and give Cooper play time. He's now been asleep since about 6.45 am. He is propped up on his side with his foot sticking through the seat belt hole of his sleeping bag!
Fraser – How's the Farex going? Charlie still enjoying it?
kmh – How are your girls? Feeling healthy? Glad to hear Charlotte is enjoying her solids!
Dustmite – How funny that Corban is not interested in solids yet! Oh well … I guess just try again in a few weeks.
