I have my niece here today and she is in one of those "ask lots of questions' moods - and I have no idea of any of the answers. Questions like "Do Pocket Puppies come in a box?" I don't even know what a pocket puppy is.. I have managed to convince her to watch tv so i can escape and have some BB time!

OK will answer questions here first before my brain fries!

Megan - first of all, your poor MIL! The weather was absolutely shocking yesterday (and not much better today). Tom is still so so with his bottles. He, for some strange reason, will only drink them laying down in his cot. The first few he would hold the bottle, so I thought that was ok but now i have to hold it and in one hand he holds a tube of Bonjela and the other hand he holds an empty Panadol bottle (I was getting desperate to find things to distract him like Lucas!) and he bangs them together. Towards the end he drops them and puts his taggie blanket over his head while he drinks. Super strange - must be DH's genes, not mine! He is only drinking about 120ml at the absolute max, at a time and normally 5 bottles a day. I am a little more relaxed about it, especially after hearing your MCHN said the same as mine. On bad days, I am just adding it into his food as well. He has had gastro for a week now so that is making everything a little more difficult in the food and drinks department. The Heinz baby soup has been a lifesaver. It's the only thing he has been eating.
Work went really well. I just had a training day the other day and got to know the other girls etc, so start my first proper day on Saturday. Working every Wednesday and every second Sat - in a bookshop, not sure if i mentioned that. I can just see my whole pay is going to go on books . It was great the other day to leave the house and use my brain for a bit! DH's family looked after Tom on Wed, then DH will have him on Sat and it will be his first day at daycare next Wed. There is actually only one other baby in his room on that day so at least i know he will get lots of attention from the staff!

Ok V - Tom is on 5 bottles a day (formula) at about 120ml for first 3 and usually can get about 150ml for last too. During the day he has them 4 hours apart.

Food - he is still not good with lumps in his food - has a very strong gag reflex! But we are slowly introducing them. Also have started him on finger foods - like toast, cheese wedges, those watercracker biscuits etc. He is good with them - I was actually terrified of him choking but he just seems to suck on it and mush it all up.

Sleep - T normally wakes at about10.30pm for his last bottle. My MCHN counts this as 'sleeping through' as his last bottle is just a roll-over feed, so I will go along with that! He will normally wake and have his bottle, and go back to sleep half way through, so he is only really awake for about 10mins or so. I have found that the best way to get him to have a really good night is to make sure he is in bed just before 7pm. If he is, he normally will sleep until 7am. If i put him to bed any later, I find those are the nights we get a few wakings and he will start to stir from about 6am on wards. The past week or so i have been trying to drag his bed time out until 8pm so that it works out for the daylight savings change over, and I have found he has been a bit unsettled while he has been adjusting to that.

$1.35 million - why don't you buy 2? . Make sure you have enough change left over to buy a gorgeous outfit for Avaleigh's christening so everyone will look at you and not notice her ugly dress.

Raels - first birthday parties.. Makes me want to cry just thinking about it. Our little muffins are growing up. I want a really low key day, maybe just a bbq with family dropping in. Won't happen that way, i can tell. It wil lbe full on, I just know it. Tom is only a shorty as well - 69cm and about 8.5kg. I think about 3.8kg of that is his hair

Ok , better go. Lots of questions to be answered - do I know if she is doing anything on Saturday? How would I know! You have to love a 7 year olds mind! And I have to start tea - it is DH's and mine 4 year wedding anniversary today. You can tell we are parents now - we just gave each other a card and having a quiet dinner at home.. with my niece who I invited for a sleep over forgetting that it was our anniversary!

Emma - I think that you might have a point wit not offering a feed if they wake up during the night because that is what they will expect! Avaleigh started sleeping through the night from 7 weeks and then started waking about 5 months cause she was rolling around, back then I could just put her dummy in and she would settle and go back to sleep. Around 6 months she started pulling herself up in the cot, I would put her down and she would get hysterical, so easiest way was to feed her and she'd be back in bed within 5 or 10 mins. Maybe I should just pull her out for a cuddle instead of a feed...

Girls... I have a delima (sp). I just had a look on seek.com to see what jobs are out there and there is a really really rare opportunity where a home building company is offering a position for a draftsperson that has no experience, so they are going to be doing on the job training. I really want to enquire about it but on the other hand I am not too sure.. I love being at home with Avaleigh but I dont know how much longer I can go on for and this job is a great opportunity!! I might just email them to see if the position is still open, hopefully its been filled and I wont have a delima anymore!

Hello to everyone. we are having our bathroom done, so I've been staying with my parents and haven't really got access to a computer easily, so it's been an enforced BB holiday. We're hoping that we'll be back in our house by the end of next week, so I'll be able to be in touch a little more regularly again. 3.5 weeks so far, although I think builders must live in alternative worlds to normal people, as their concept of time is not the same as my concept of time - the builder told us we?d be without a toilet for 24 hours, or 48 hours max, so far it's 2 weeks and counting ?

Anyway, it's good to have a quick catch up, but so much to catch up on!! It's amazing how many of the kids have been getting teeth. For some reason I thought that heaps of them already had a few, and that Liam was on the slow side, but it seems that the last week has been the week for them - including our first. Liam, bless him, has one so far, the bottom middle left, but the top middle left looks like it's about to break. Which is weird, cos there's no sign of his bottom middle right. I've given up on Baby Panadol, cos he hates the taste of it, and I can't say I blame him. If you haven't had a sip, try it (or not), Panadol is gross (IMO). So I've moved to Dymadon, with Nurofen as a backup. I've been using the Dymadon a bit more as Liam's also got a doozy of a cold, which the Nurofen won't really help with. The downside I'm finding with the teething (aside from a sad child who doesn't sleep for more than 3 hours), is that he's right off food again. Even getting a couple of teaspoons into him is a struggle, but I'm hoping he'll come good once he's feeling better, if only to give me a break from what feels like perpetual BFing.

The other big developments in our lives are that Liam can get himself to sitting without assistance, and is on the verge of crawling properly, as opposed to being super-commando-crawl kid. This is not such a big deal for those of you who have had kids that have been crawling for ages and who are now about to start walking, but given that I spent many months worrying that he was never going to move at all, it's pretty cool. And I'm just loving watching him discover things. Well, not everything, I'd rather he didn't try to pick up insects and put them in his mouth, but I guess that's kids. He had a highly amusing game with an ant the other day - his first "moving" toy. Lucky for the ant Liam's pincer grip isn't quite developed enough, and lucky for Liam it was only a little black house ant, as opposed to a bullant. And I've taught him how to do the "indian" sound, where you pat your mouth while saying aahhh. If he's lazy he just opens his mouth and says "aahhh" and waits for me to do the patting, or sometimes he grabs my hand and pulls it to his mouth and then says "aaahhh", but when he's not being lazy he uses his whole fist to get the noise going. Super cute, if I do say so myself.

We don't have too many words at the moment, he used to have quite a few, but since he's started moving heaps I think that his word development has been swapped for physical development. But we are getting some really clear Dad-dad-dad's. Which is good, cos it means that Dad-Dad-Dad can get up and solve the problem , while Mum-mum-mum can rest (or continue on with the housework she was more likely doing)

Anyway, I've been yabbering on for ages, and haven't even done one personal, but I think I might have to leave it for tonight as it's quite late now & I'm knackered. Hope to be hack here sooner rather than later, so I can catch up properly with you all.

Jan, It's good to hear from you was thinking about you just before actually! Congrats on the teeth and crawling!

V, one big thing i've learnt so far is that when it comes to motherhood you have to do what works for you and your family and I don't think the idea everyone has of a supermum is right I think any mum is a supermum because this is certainly a hard job! So I think if you want to work and think it'll be best for you guys then go for it!

long time no post.

I have only skimed over some bits and pieces

V, We are still BF, I hope to continue to around the 12 month mark. But It is quite a juggle expressing at work.
Solids, we are on a combination of different foods, and trying lots fast. I've basically gone no holds bared except for the known allergens, as we don't have any food allergies.
He loves Rockmelon, it's not too soft, not too firm, nice and cold on the gums, and has flavor.
He hasn't been sleeping through the night, but it has been getting better. Yet we do use a lot of infants friend. which as well as helping with wind, I believe is supposed to help with teething.

Nicki, you said you had to express every 5 hours. Xavier only feeds about every 5 hours now, so maybe Lach is just cutting back.

Brief update on where we are.
Sleep this week has been etter, we are finally getting more than 2 hours at any one time. Xave is eating lots, but being a little fussy about it.
MCHN said we could use real milk on foods like cereal. So we have switched to that on weetbix and we've tried oats this morning. he hates farex.
I've asked creche to introoduce some sancks so he's getting arvo tea now, which I think is helping his sleep. He is always tired when he gets home, so I don't think he was eating enough, and the poor sleep was from being in a perpetual cycle of no sleep means fussy eating, and being hungry meant no sleep.

Morning Everyone!!

Yes, moving the Ireland would be a huge move and definitely an adventure. It is something to think about doing in the future, especially since Jason thinks about it every couple of days!! The last I heard of it was nearly 6 months ago so I didnt know how serious he could be. I think its mainly so he can have a career change, he's been roof tiling for 10 yrs and doesnt have any other experience. So it his family could give him a chance, it would be good for him. Not sure how i'll go but we will pass that bridge when and if it comes!

Em - yay for the shopping! I havent been out shopping in ages. I cant wait to be earning some money so I can get some 'toys' for myself too!! My clothes are so old and hanging off me these days..

Megan - YAY for the photo shoot!! Thats a great prize to win. I want professional photos done but they are so expensive!

Rebecca - Hey! Yeh it would be a juggle expressing at work. Its hard for me to get my head around, but I guess I will start worrying about that if I get a job. I just wouldnt know how much to express cause of not using bottles during the day! Good luck on the sleep. How does xavier like the real milk on his cereal? I've been trhinking about trying it with Avaleigh but havent given it a go yet..

Well, we have slept through 2 nights in a row!! The night before it was 12 hrs and last night it was 9 hrs. Plllllleeeeeeeease make it a third night!! I think Avaleigh's second tooth might have broken through, so that could mean things will be back to normal. We will see tonight!! GOt a MCHN appt tomorrow, will be good to know how tall and heavy Avaleigh is, havent had her measurements done since she was 6 or 7 months!

I've applied for 4 jobs this weekend.. We will see if I get any responses during the week. I cant believe I am doing this, my last interview was 4 years ago!!

Anyway, enough blab from me. Going to make a coffee and sit down and watch Ice Age 2 with Avaleigh. Enjoy your day everyone!!

OMG I just found out, a lady at my work fell from an Aircraft this morning and died. It's so sad, she was a lovely old lady. Only 2 years away from retirement. DH and I are so shocked, he is just about to leave for work at the airport and isn't looking forward to it, but I really want to know what happened. Something like that just should not happen, they have so many saftey precautions in place. It's unbeliveable and just terrible.

News here Bayleigh is goin great guns on the finger food he LOVES Vegemite sangas not to fussed on toast.... loves steamed carrot sticks
Brought some of the Heinz baby pasta on friday and add that to his meat and vegies and he loves that also
As for his sleeping he still waking up 3-4 times a night hasnt been every hour for about a week now but hes still waking we have a local lady coming to visit today she was at the sleep school that we once had here so she's goin to come and have a talk and see wat she can suggest and we'll try wat she suggest till we go to tweddles not surew when that will be they are calling me on wednesday for a on the phone consultation so atleast the ball is rolling

Bayleigh is also standing alone HEAPS more i think 2 mins is the longest he has stood alone for now Friends of ours have a 10 month old n he started walking last week and bayleigh has seemed to be following him bryce sat 2 weeks later bayleigh sat, Bryce crawled 2 weeks later bayleigh crawled so maybe Bayleigh will walk soon too, hope not i would like a non walking baby for a lil while longer he gets into to much stuff now that he is crawling hate to see wat he does when hes walking LOL

Sarah ? clever Bayleigh, all those new skills he?s picking up. I hope the sleep lady was good today, I?d love to hear what she thought, and to see if it makes a difference for you all. I hope it does, 9 months is a long time to go without a full nights sleep.

Bec ? great to hear from you. The whole sleeping/not eating thing is such a vicious circle. It?s good that the daycare people are able to help out with increasing Xavier?s food. And isn?t it good when they can start eating normal breakfasts like weetbix.

Well, not that much exciting stuff for us really. Liam has discovered that he can grind his 2 teeth together, and I?ve got to say that it?s one of the most hideous sounds I?ve ever heard. Usually he only does it as a way of saying that he?s had enough food, but sometimes I think he does it for fun. I think (hope) that he?s about to get a couple more teeth to match, as he?s been quite grumpy, dribbly, and off his food again, which is what happened with the first two. He?s also waking up every few hours, so I?m exhausted. But he?s learnt to clap, and if he could get a better grip on our floor boards I reckon he?d be close to proper crawling most of the time. It?s just a bit too cold to leave him with bare legs, so he keeps slipping and just ends up doing his commando-ing. It?s so much fun watching him learn new things.

Hi all,

Xavier is crawling!!! he started today.

V, re amounts to express, it doesn't take long to work out amounts. I started by over compensating, and as long as you are drinking enough water you can work out a rough pattern of how often they feed during the day. EG at the moment Xavier feeds around 10-11 am and 3-4pm, so I express at 11am and 4pm (so milk is avail at right times on weekends) I get 180-200 ml each time, yet he generally only drinks 140-180 ml. I use my body as a guide iykwiim. He doesn't mind real milk, yet he has already had yoghurt/custard and cheese, but he's not overly keen on the strong taste of the weetbix or oates. Oh and creamed rice, he really liked that.

smcgt, Early walking has been on the cards for us here following what his dad did, Xavier has just started crawling, so hopefully he won't folow his dad and start crawling at 9 months.
We had some shocking sleep here too, and after a lot of trail and error, I started giving him morning and afternoon tea and he has greatly improved.

Walking is very exciting ladies, but i'm hoping for another 3 months before it happens here. Although I sometimes worry he will walk early because natahn did, everything else he does is perfectly average, and fairly text book so I thinkwe should be safe for some time.

Megan, I don't think Lucas is slow off the mark, Once upon a time it was fairly unheard of for babies to start walking so early!! It hink it might just be a coincidence that a majority of BB babies are early developers.

RE sleeping patterns, I have been told it can take up to 2 weeks to properly change sleeping patterns. Another thing that has helped Xavier is getting him to bed as soon as possible at night. But we are in a diff situation where I am not in control of his day sleeps, and sometimes he is buggered at night.

em, I have been making Xavier meals on the weekends and then freezing them for the week. I have to admit I have been making foods that I like, and when he doesn't eat all his tea, mummy finishes it off. tee hee, the chicken balls sound good. Let me know how they went down. I found tonight, while eating Stir fry that Xavier enjoys those big flat rice noodles. Who am I kidding he likes to eat anything off my plate.

He is over the 8kg mark, still a booby baby, sleeping is getting better, he has tried lots of different foods now. he sits up well by himself now, and doesn't cry when he topples over. Started crawling today. He seems to be doing all the right things at about the right times, and is generally happy.
The cutest thing he does is after i relent and take him back to bed with me in the mornings some days, when he wakes up and realises he is in our bed and we are both there he has the biggest smiles on his face and does this big stretch like he just had the sleep of a life time, in the biggest comiest bed, not like that little poxy one with the bars that doesn't have mum and dad in it oh and we have 2 teeth rising up now, both have cut the gums, two front bottom teeth.
