Aw, shucks, you guys are so thoughtful. Looking for stuff just to keep me entertained! I must admit, I do love stuff.
Jan - I want to give you a big, fat hug. I'm so glad you have your mum to give you a helping hand. I'm sure you are trying everything right now and it's probably driving you up the wall. Poor Liam with his squeaky voice and sore bottom :( Is there maybe a new type of food that could be upsetting him? What does the rash look like? Hope you are resting up. I'm sending lots of dreamy sleepy vibes to Liam to stay asleep for both your sakes tonight. :asleep:
LOL Em, keep working on your sister - how much fun would it be to pretend to be a slapper for a while?! I don't know what to do about a bed either. Autie is like Liam, a real mover and shaker - she actually spends most of her time asleep crosswise on top of her pillow  Her cot turns into a toddler bed but if we have another one, I don't want her to think that the baby took her bed so I'm leaning towards getting a normal single when we eventually get around to it. I'm thinking of one with a trundle I can pull out at night in case she falls out. It will be a while though I think - especially the way this TTC is going.
Raels, I love your mood - so nice and positive! Hope you have had a rest from all your busy 'stuff' and can get on for a chat soon.
Mel, Charlize is soooo like you. Haha, go figure! Both so cute. I am really bad at interacting on facebook but I do keep up and look at the photos everyone has. You can tell how stoked DH was to have his car drive thingie.
Nicky, how're you feeling?
Hi everyone else. Hope you're all sunshiney.
Did you know there are people in the Gold Coast Hinterland who will swear that there are yowis up there, and claim to have rocks thrown at their houses in the night by them? Possibly too much of the homegrown herbs, but then again...
:leap: I finally got on......now here's hoping that I can actually post.
Jan - Oh I am so sorry you are having all these troubles at the moment. It's so hard when they get sick and it throws their sleeping all out of whack. I'm probably not the best one for giving advice because I have a pretty bad sleeper here myself. I think Oliver must be the worlds lightest sleeper!! He wakes at the slightest sound, it's frustrating because once he wakes at night it's so hard to get him back to sleep and it's impossible to get him back in his cot. I don't mind bringing him into our bed but if we happen to turn over or make a noise - bam- awake again! Also now that he is getting bigger he likes to take up so much of the bed. I had to laugh the other morning when I woke to see Brian had put his pillow on his bedside table with his head resting on that, then a few days later I woke to find him with his head up the other end of the bed. Sometimes I wonder if I should persevere and try and get him back in his cot but I'm just too tired to bother and because he still feeds sometimes during the night it's just easier. Last night I put him to bed at 8 and he woke at 10 because the dog barked (once) so by 11 he still wasn't back to sleep so I dragged the spare mattress out and we slept on that in the loungeroom. I think I am just happy for him to sleep so I guess I break all the "rules" Sorry, for making that about me! I hope Liam is still sleeping for you tonight and you both get better soon. :grouphug:
Em - I have been trying to get on here all day to ask the same question about the bed. I think we will be putting Oliver into a bed fairly soon, I'm sort of hoping it will work for the best! I contemplated going for the toddler bed because we wouldn't have to purchase another mattress/bedding ect. but I'm 99% sure we will just go straight for the single because as we have co-slept the majority of the past 19 months I want to be able to lay in it with him if need be ( lmao who am I kidding I will be in there everynight!!). Oh and no stroller here either, just a big ass pram. A younger friend dragged me into Supre the other day....well, I could hardly fit between the clothes racks, let alone the pram. What is Safeway?
Sacha - I didn't end up emailing Sharkeys as I went and saw a Naturopath here last week. I had a really long chat with her and she gave me some Evening Primrose, Magnesium and something called Tyrosine. She also suggested I get my Thyroid checked. I'm hoping it all works but if it doesn't I will give them a call for sure! Are you thinking of getting help with TTC again?
As for us, Oliver started at FDC on Monday. I was a mess!!! He had a good morning, only a few tears every now and then but was easily settled, but lost it when it came to nap time. The carer called me and suggested that I pick him up because she didn't want him to have a bad experience on his first day. I was of course very happy to go and get him but not happy about the negative comments off some family and friends about doing this. Apparently, my son will now do this all the time because he "knows his Mummy will come running" WHATEVER!!! Geez it makes me mad when people say stuff like this. My child is not a manipulator and if he needs me then I'm there. It's a different story if he was just whinging, but he was distressed - and I would rather him have the confidence that I will be there to comfort him. Anyway, we will try again next week, it might take some time but that's ok! I'm not working yet so there's no real rush to push him if he's not ready.
Well I think I've babbled enough, I could go on and on but my pillow is calling me.
Hello to everyone else.
Raels. xo
I'm still on here.. I should be in bed. Oh well.
Had a bit of a scare tonight - T choked on a biscuit and couldn't breathe. I was trying not to panic and thump him, so I was rubbing his back while he's turning blue. Then all of a sudden he spewed everywhere - bit chunk of biscuit. It was horrible..
Raels - Safeway is *I think* Woolworths in other states.. Supermarket anyway.
Night night girls!
Oh Em, so scary! If they cough, leave them cough, but if they can't breathe at all, you can thump between the shoulder blades with them facing down over your lap. I have had this happen a couple of times over the years at work and it's horrible.
OMG Em that must have been scarey, I'm glad he is alright though. Good on you for not panicing and for doing the right thing. And we went straight to a big bed, well sort of. It's a full size bed, but a novelty bed, one of the car ones, that have a partially raised side. It's great, and will do until about grade 3 in school when we want to upgrade them to one of the bunk beds that have the desk and storage underneath. Well thats the plan anyway;). But neither one of our kids had any problem with the transition with these sorts of beds. Oh and the stroller, we have the Target brand baby club, it's great. Light, fully reclines, has a back pocket, basket, folds up ultra compact and it was only $100 or so dollars. I love the Maclaren brand ones, but I just can't see the value (being a bargin hunter I am:redface:).
Jan, I hope tonight is the start of a new sleeping era for Liam. Let us know how he goes.
Sacha, Charlize is a funny girl, sometimes I can see me, but most times I think I see more of DH, go figure (I'd be worried if she looked like the mailman:lol:) You crack me up with stuff, and DH car thingy....:p He had a great time, said he would do it again, asked if I would two, told him I would love to for my 30th, but then I was hoping for some more diamonds.... Ummm tough decisions..........not!!
Oh I'm brain dead after TAFE tonight, I can't remember who said what. I might have to read back tomorrow and talk then.
Sorry all
BBL
Nighty night
Wow, what a difference a day makes. Liam had a lovely sleep last night, Mum still came over & we've had a lovely lovely day. I got heaps done, cos I Mum was there to entertain. The only bad thing is that it's now DF's turn with the runs, but hey, we like being a sharing kind of family ha ha ha. Fingers crossed it all continues (well, not the runs!), thank you all so much for being so lovely & supportive, we really are a fabbo group of girls in here :)
Emma - OMG at Tom choking that is so scary. I am having moments where I'm feeling really guilty that I haven't got off my bum to go & do a kids 1st aid course, so that I'd at least have some idea of what to do if needed.
Raels - FWIW, you did exactly the same thing that I would have done by going to pick up Oliver (therefore, you did the Right thing ;) ). And I think the carer did the right thing by calling you & not wanting to make his first day traumatic. there's a time & a place to be tough mum, and his first time at day care isn't that time IMHO.
Sacha - DF told me today that he read that Walt Disney had a tomato plant that yielded more than 30,000 tomatoes. I wanted to know who counted them, but he couldn't tell me that.
OMG - I'm watching that show on ABC about raising babies - that clair verity woman is unbelievable. I can't believe that people pay for her advice. Outrageous. She hasn't even had kids of her own, so how could she know. grrrrr
Oh yay Jan! So glad you've had a pick-me-up day! That's great news. 30 000 you say? Hmm, that's a lot. I guess if they were cherry tomatoes I might find it easier to believe - and if it was a really old plant...and looked after by magic tomato fairies. I haven't seen the show you speak of, but anyone without kids trying to tell someone how to raise theirs is always a little suspicious to me.
Mel, I like diamonds too. So pretty and sparkly and there's something about clear stones that makes me feel good. Did you know that they're not at all rare and we get amazingly, massively ripped off when we pay so much for them? *sigh* What kind of bed does Charlize have? I like the idea of a low, down on the ground type bed the more I think about it. Autie would probably be happy with a car but I'd personally prefer something a little girlier.
Raels, that's good you went to see a naturopath, hope those things all work for you. I am hoping I don't have to get help this time. ATM I am just trying to get Dan and I in the same town at the magic time! I will give it a few months of trying before looking at other options.
I think you did absolutely the right thing going to get Oliver. And how great that your FDC recognises that it was better for him too! You know, I never went to kindy at all and I can remember when I was five, we met my cousins' family at my grandparents house. I never saw these cousins so they were strangers to me. My GP lived an hour away and we were all going back to our house as they were coming to stay for a bit. Anyway, as we were leaving, one of their kids jumped in our car so I was put in their car for the trip back (everyone deciding I would love it) I was so stressed the whole trip, didn't say a word and ended up sick as a dog by the time I got home with an agonizing headache. My mum felt so bad. My point is (after all that rambling) if, at 5yo and knowing where my parents were and what was happening, I still got horribly stressed by being thrown out of my comfort zone, imagine how it is for even younger children? It's so great for both of you that you have the option to ease Oliver into it - don't listen to anyone who tells you you're wrong!
I went for a check-up appointment with my OB today to see if any of my endometriosis has returned and while I was in there he was talking away and suddenly let out this ginormous fart - and just continued on as if nothing had happened! Not a word. I couldn't believe it. I mean, they must have heard it in the waiting room it was that loud. Can I just say - :wtf:
On a side note, I can remember as kids, us cracking up at the definition of fart in our dictionary as 'a small explosion between the legs'.
Ok, that's it for my meaningful contribution to the conversation. Keep the stuff coming - you know I love it.;)
Sacha - not fair, you made me snort out loud with your fart story. Which would be fine, except that I'm at work.... Talk about an elephant in the room.
Oh, yeah. Trumpeting and all...
Sacha - I"m still all out of stuff. Pathetic really. Had to go to Sydney today for work, so I've been up since 4.30 (hey, nothing new there!). It was a long day for not much purpose. BIL lives in Upwey, and he could see flames from the fires up there, so we've had a few interesting hours worrying about him, apparently all his neighbours have left, but he decided to stay. We feel a bit bad, cos we were laughing at his paranoia on the weekend, as he'd been out & bought hoses to go all around his house.
Anyway, going to watch the start of the oscars repeat, to catch me some Hugh Jackman. There's never too much Hugh IMHO.
Hope he's ok Jan. I'm assuming he is if you can concentrate on Hugh (who, I agree, ticks many of the boxes despite his name which I am not fond of) Just try not to get so transfixed that you forget to go to bed. How is Liam's sleep doing btw?
Hi everyone else :hello:
315 entries in Websters 1996 dictionary were misspelled.:D
Hi girls,
Jan - Just noticed your wedding ticker, how exciting!! How is Liam going now? Hope the sleeping is improving. We are still having bad nights here with LOTS of bfeeds....ah but oh well! I hope your BIL is ok. Oh and Hugh........noice. ;)
Sacha - LMAO at Doctor Fart!! How funny. Kind of reminds me of a time a few years ago when I spent a week in hospital. I was in a room with four old ladies and oh my they could fart and ALL the time. So how are things? Did you get your results?
Mel - How are you? You have probably already told us but can I ask what you are studying at Tafe?
Well as for us we had our second attempt at FDC today - oh and thanks btw for your lovely support on the picking up matter! Anyway, when I dropped him off he had a good scream but I called the carer after about 20 minutes and he was fine. Apparently when I drove off he grabbed his bag and shoes and walked to the door, pointing. She asked him where he was going and he just kept pointing so she told him "later" and he was ok after that. Not sure whether to laugh or cry at that one. About an hour later though she called as he was so upset and wouldn't settle so I went and picked him up again. We will try again next week, no rush!
Well that was a pretty lame post but that's all I've got in me tonight. Have an inspection tomorrow - HATE renting - and I still need to do a bit of spot cleaning on the walls so I best be off.
Hope everyone is well.
Raels. xo
Sacha - 315 words!!!! :p
Hi everyone,
Just a really quick post because it's 9:52 here and for me that is REALLY late at the moment!! I feel guilty coming in here because I've become so utterly useless at keeping up
We are doing great, Noah is just gorgeous he has been learning a few words a week in these last few weeks. I am 32w 2days preg so getting closer and closer and very excited!!
Oh also Noah went straight into a normal full side single bed just with a first years bed rail and he hasn't ever fallen out and he sleeps like me...all over the place!! Personally I think toddler beds are a waste of money, for us, not judging anyone who disagrees!!!
Hello lovely ladies. I'm here loitering, but stuggling with motivitation to type. THink I'm going through one of my lazy phases, so trying to kick-start myself out of it.
Raels - I hear you on the BFs. In an ideal world, we be down to a morning & a bedtime feed, but when I'm at home with him there's usually a mid morning snack, plus at least one afternoon snack. Even after daycare he likes a 5pm feed, then dinner, then his bedtime feed. I think the 5pm one just gives him the energy he needs to finish off his day. It will get easier with the FDC, it's great that you're able to ease him into it.
Jas - wow, 32 weeks, it goes so quickly when it's not your own tummy :). It's nice that you drop in to say hi, even if you can't keep up with us "super-paced" girls  in here, it's still great to hear how you & Noah are going.
Mel - congrats on being an Aunty! Very exciting to hear that your neice has arrived - can you give us the stats please?
Sacha - I'm a pocket Oxford girl myself. But no idea how many mistakes there were in the edition I have (grade 5 from memory).
Paid the deposit for my invites today. Well, OUR invites, but you all know what I mean - DF is good in many many ways, but wedding stuff, not so much his cup of tea, unless it's the music. Our groomsmen are going to be more difficult than the BM's I think, both my sisters are happy to wear whatever I want them to wear, but the groomsmen are apparently quite opinionated. Interesting. Going to pay deposit for the florist next week. Hoping that the one I want to use will still deal with me, given that Liam was "troublesome" at our meeting (read, he's 18months, hadn't slept, and was getting over gastro). Figuring that $$ are stronger than toddler-hating. Although next time I won't bring him along. And then there's hair & makeup stuff to do, then cakes. Although I kind of already have a picture of what I want, so it's really just a matter of finding the best tasting cake at a reasonable price. Oh, and shoes. Somewhere I have to find time to find the shoes before my first fitting. Which is in April, so not a panic yet, but time is marching on. I can kind of see why you'd want to pay for a wedding organiser :)
I've been feeling a bit the same way Jan. Too lazy to do anything but lurk. I'm glad you made the effort first or I'd probably still be wandering around aimlessly.
Shame on your groomsmen for causing you grief! Are they not keen on the choice of attire? Tell them to suck it up - it's not about them! I thought *we* were supposed to be the fussy ones LOL Sure, you could pay for a wedding co-ordinator - but then you wouldn't have any of the fun either. Do tell about shoes and cake ideas...
Loverly photo of Liam btw! It's nice to see different photos regularly so I can keep an accurate picture in my head when I think of all the toddies.
Jas, time really flies doesn't it?! It's good to know Noah has no problems with his bed even though he's a wriggler. Maybe there's hope for Autie yet. Is someone going to post your birth announcement, or will you do it yourself?
Raels, gosh that hospital room must've been ripe! LOL I don't have any results yet. I'm being sent off for an US next week - $200, YOINK! What I'm paying my OBGYN for I just don't know! My last guy did all that stuff in his rooms during my appointment...
Glad to hear there's some progress with FDC. It must be nice to know she will call you if he's upset. I know many places wouldn't in the misguided belief you would blame them for not settling your child or something. Have you got a family photo you could contact and give him to take? Sometimes that can work, sometimes not. Or a shirt of yours that he can cuddle up to when he's a bit sad?
Well, I hear my 'get off' call. Have a good weekend!
Hello hello! Another lazy lurker here too. I kind of get side tracked looking at the new posts and things and then time runs out!
Raels - how's Ollie going now? I got a little teary at the thought of him with his bag and shoes. Smart boy though, he knows what he wants! It's definiately a great idea to ease him into it - it can be so overwhealming for them. I always remember my mum coming up here for a visit with a girl she had on foster care respite for a weekend. The poor little thing just wandered around, had no idea who anyone was or why she was here, so it must be so comforting for him to know that Mummy will always return and get him.
Jan - I love hearing the wedding plans! Are you getting bridesmaids dresses made or looking for in a shop? We are facing that dilemma at the moment with my sisters wedding.
I haven't got very much to say as I'm pretty boring at the moment! I got my stroller.. I really like it, so much easier than the pram.
I have a question - anyone that does swimming here - did your little one get colds for the first few weeks? Tom and I have started back at swimming 3 weeks ago and for the past few weeks, he's come down with a runny nose etc a few days after. Not sure if it's normal or whether I should stop going.
Ok - I have a Mt Everest pile of ironing waiting to fall on me so I better be off. Hope everyone is well!!
