Wow, new thread. The other one had been going since May 2008!!!
It was Chelsea's birthday on Thursday and I took her and 5 friends to see Hotel for Dogs - excellent movie! Hilarious. Tomorrow she has another party for school friends - Reptile party!! Busy week, will be back when the craziness of the weekend is over!!!
Happy belated birthday to Miss Chelsea!
my sis took my neies to that movie and gave me the rundown (actually told me the whole movie lol) sounded funny. hope the school friends party went well today!
finally found a day care for Nixon, all the preschools around here are fully booked this yr he is on about 6 waiting lists, but i have found a nice daycare which takes children 2-6 that he can go to 1 day a week for now. got to ring them monday to lock it all in and then he may even start next week!
I think its going to help his speech and development for sure
Welcome back Bath - how was your holiday? Hope you all had a great time but you must be cursing this heatwave? When does Wade start school?
Nic - how did Nixon go at daycare? His photo on facebook looked so cute with his little bag!! I'm sure he'll love it - both of mine have.
Chelsea had an excellent party. The kids loved the reptiles and one boy told me it was the best party ever. She even got given a bunch of flowers by one of the boys - her first bunch!!! His mum told me that she was starting early to ensure her son knew how to treat a lady LOL!!! She was so chuffed and he is such a lovely boy too. For those on facebook, there are plenty of party pics including one of me holding a 13kg olive python. Never thought I would ever touch a snake let alone hold one. It was very freaky!
How are the Melb girls coping with the heat? Tali must be loving it I am at work today and taking tomorrow off as Chelsea starts Grade 1 tomorrow. I feel for the poor kids going back to school in this heat!!! I am actually really glad to be at work, its lovely and cool.
Girls are both doing well, still fighting which is driving me nuts. Marley is so head strong and clashes with Chelsea over most things. I play referee most of the day! No action on the TT front, just taking the "go slow" approach and see what happens. Marley can now dob on Chelsea which is rather funny.
Stay cool Melb girls and love the all you other Junies...
Melb and adelaide weather is just horrid at the moment, i hope your all keeping as cool as possible.
we got a split system 2wks ago makes things so much more bareable on the extreme days thats for sure!
Nixon had a ball at day care, he was on a high when i picked him up, had been playing in water was was all wet, and he was just so chatty couldnt wait to get hom to ring daddy and tell him how he was all wet LOL!
i thoroughly enjoyed the day with tyron also, i did some work but then went shopping with him, took him to the pools, he loved it too.
we have the go slow here too Mel with tt, he will sit on the toilet but yet to do anything in it.... had a few acco's on the carpet.
Well girls its 12.15am and still 35 degrees outside! Its so damn hot, thought I would put off going to bed for a while. We have had our split system cranked up all day and thankfully that has helped alot. I am still contemplating leaving it on overnight. Kids have been for 3 swims at MIL today, so at least they could cool down. I feel so sorry for the poor kids going to school tomorrow, they are going to be so hot just going to school. Thankfully their room is airconditioned. DH and I have the day off tomorrow and no kids So we are taking ourselves off to the movies. Going to see either Slumdog Millionaire or Seven Pounds. Who cares, it will be nice and cool inside.
Bath - hope Wade enjoys his first day at school - whenever that is?? All the schools have different start dates, gets very confusing.
Nic - gotta love a split system. I could not bear it if we didn't have ours in this heat. I would move to a hotel! Sounds like Nixon had a ball at day care. He'll be super excited to go next time. I love being home with just Marley, we have so much fun and no sibling fights! Enjoy your time with Tyron - I'm sure he loves having his mum all to himself. Glad I am not the only one who is on go slow with TT!
I hope I can sleep tonight..don't want to be bleary eyed tomorrow morning.
how was the movie mel?! and what did you see!
Nixon did a poo in his pull up today and also another poo & wee in his undies..... he is coming to tell me he wants to go do wee but that seems to be when he has already done it... and Tyron wants in on the action! we now cant go to the bathroom without Ty coming in and having a sit on the potty or toilet, i was exhausted today with Nix coming to me every 15min telling me, but then nothing happening and Ty wanting to play toilets too...
unfortunatley have to keep the bathroom door shut atm cause Ty thinks its great to stick ur hands down there, the loo brush etc......
Nix had day car again on fri, my sis picked him up for me i was working, but apparently he BIT another boy on his forearm....bit embarrassed i wonder what the poor boys parents think of my son.
Im sure he did it cause Tyron has been a biter for some time and Nixon has coped many fang attacks from him, but he should definatley know better at almost 3yrs....i havent spoken to the owner, my sister did obviously and they had a talk to him when it happened but i cant keep going on about it for days he just wont get it... who knows what happened though, no one seen it so not sure if he did it just to be a poo or the other boy did something and he was retaliating....
Nic - we saw Seven Pounds with Will Smith. Fantastic movie, loved it. It was so nice and cool in the movies but boy did we get a shock when we got out. My car temp said 49!!! I felt as though I was melting!!! Thankfully there is finally a cool breeze tonight - pity I can't sleep outside
I have a similiar problem with Marley, she always wees her undies or wees if she has nothing on. Then asks me for the toilet. I take her, she sits for 2 seconds then says finished. My patience is not good at the best of times but this TT thing does my head in! Marley sees Chelsea go, then she wants to go. Its good for her to see but so far nothing. They have been putting her on the toilet at creche but I don't think she has done anything.
I feel for you with the biting issue. Although Marley doesn't bite, she's a pusher. The other mother will not know who bit her child, they are not allowed to say who did it so she want give you daggers when you walk past!!! It is horrible to think your child has done something naughty to another child. Last week Marley was taken out of a game for a little while for pushing a boy over. They said she seemed to understand she did the wrong thing and after a while was allowed to go back to the game. We tell her hands are for hugging and high 5's, which she repeats alot but sometimes she forgets. You sound like you have done the right thing explaining it to him and right not to go on about it. Give him time to settle in and I'm sure he'll understand that its not acceptable to do that.
Can you believe this heat we've had? It's been so disgusting but finally some relief today. Those cool winds are so nice. Actually got some housework done today as I hadn't felt like doing anything this week. 31 tomorrow which is a marked improvement on 45!!!! The city was in chaos yesterday.
Hope we have no more days like that for another 70 years!!!!
Well, Tali? Howzat? I think I was the only person around not complaining about the heat! Not that I like it that hot long-term, I just like to let it sink in and move on, just to remind me what summer is all about I mean, I can't ride my horse, in all good conscience, on days like this week, so I will welcome mild weather, if only for that reason!
Nic - Oscar is a pusher He doesn't do it with malice, he just does it for fun. He is mortified when other children are wounded by it (emotionally or physically), as he is when another kid does it to him. It usually means he's tired and can't regulate his interactions with and stimulation by the other kids. It will be interesting when he goes back to childcare on Tuesday, in the kinder room with bigger kids who will be doing all sorts of peer-based behaviour regulation! Funny, cos he can be so sweet, too. He often comes out with an un-prompted "oh, SO-rry, sorry bout dat" - a bit cute, but cuteness has worn off for the kid on the receiving end by then...!
Yes, how was Wade's first day? Did you send him, Bath?
TT - we are now nappy-free 24 hrs, and just keep an absorbent mat under him at night, in case he 'leaks' between potty trips (not a full wee, just little patches before he wakes up to realise he needs to go). He hasn't had one of these in ages and he's even woken up by himself to use the potty and resettled into his or my bed without disturbing me. I am so impressed with this EC thing that I can't wait to use it with our next one, whenever that may be. Still waiting for my body to decide it's ready to be fertilised! DP is getting antsy about it, and that's the only thing making me a bit antsy, cos otherwise, I'm loving this time with Oscar and mutual undivided attention.
From here on in I'm going to have to make a conscious decision to hold back on BB, cos I need to give on-campus study a real shot of my attention and energy this year. Last year was a close call (and is still being decided, as my last assignment will be marked in a few days when the marker gets back from leave...watch this space, Mel, there are still some requests I've made that I haven't been able to follow up because of staff leave issues...it's so farcical, except it's my transcript they're toying with!).
Night night and enjoy the cooler evenings, Melb girls!!
Good afternoon girls... sorry I've been AWOL... I get caught up in so many threads and am trying hard to limit my usage to 1 hour a day (ROFL). Yesterday I took myself to the library where you can log onto BB but it's timed and limed to 1 hour... after that you are logged off and are not allowed on (using your own membership anyhow) for 24hours. I've done that a few times now... their system is soooo much faster than ours (DH is often downloading music which slows down our system heaps)... so when i'm at the library i tend to get more read.
Anyhow I haven't been able to stop thinking about Tali and her love of the heat! hehe, warm enough for you chicky? I took the three kids into Melbourne Central again on Friday... transport was free... so didn't have to choose between an all day or 2 hour ticket... we spent 4 hours in blissful cool... Niall fell asleep in his pram... so we had a seated lunch (ie one that I didn't have to eat 'on the go')... and we managed to get home without any issues or delays (unlike previously).
Wade starts school tomorrow (Monday). We're all set. Bought his shoes at Myer on Friday... if you bought 2 pairs of school shoes you received 50% of the second pair... just as well, the ones Verity wanted were $94! Also that govt. cheque for $300 we got because we have a child starting school came in handy. Also got his hair trimmed on Sat. His boxed stationery order was on the veranda waiting for us when we got home from our holidays... gotta love that! I think he'll be fine. Monday is only for 3 hours. Same on Tuesday. Preps have every Wednesday off in term 1. Thursday will be his first "full day".
Friday I am checking out the childcare centre in at Melbourne Central. I dropped in there last week and they said they had 1 day a week available for Niall's age group. That would be really nice to have... meaning that I wouldn't have to take my "me time" on a weekend. DH is often dismayed that he just never gets to spend any time with me. Niall could probably handle 1 day a week... moreso than Wade could at the same age. Anyhow we'll see how it goes. If it works out well I might be able to increase the days and consider some study! Infact... if the CAE in Flinder's Lane offers French classes of a friday then they can count me in! I've been wanting to do that for years... would be a good way to get back into that mindspace before committing to a Dip Ed I think.
Mel: oooh how Loooovley to be able to go to the movies with just your DH!!! I hope you had a great date! For years it's just been me by myself or Verity... I thought about taking Niall and Wade to see a movie on Friday but nothing for kids was on (at MC) only a 3D thing which wouldn't have worked for Niall. My sis has successfully taken her 2.5yo to the movies (they saw Madagascar2) and Niall has a fairly good attention span... there's a cinema room at MC that has bean bags instead of chairs... maybe that could be the go? Has anyone taken their June Babies to see a movie yet? I worry a bit about the volume though... it can be a bit loud at times.
*back* after driving the car onto the front lawn so Verity can wash it. Good girl!!! AND she's going to vacuum it!!! it was sooo embarrassing... covered in cobwebs and red dirt. You'd all ROFL at how nervous I get even driving the car onto the lawn! Oh well... the kids were safe inside! Maya: I see by your FB page that you have a new car??? What's that comment about the Holden? LOL
DH is cooking dinner... turkey mince rissoles and salad... the boys are starting to run amok... better help out... they are totally feral "nature boys" running around nude... we've set up the marquee (fixed after being warped out of shape... some of you might remember a windstorm and a certain unhelpful teen DD... and the resulting Boo Hoo thread from last year!) Well DH applied brute strength and fixed the bent frame... yay! a shady place to put the paddling shells!
Stay cool everyone!
ETA: Nic: I have a biter as well... I hope that Niall doesn't bite anyone at the centre... but what can you do? It's usually just a phase... grown out of before their 3rd b'day.

: a million typos!
Bath - got a top deal, through a fire brigade friend. Car was his 95yo dad's, who has owned it since new (it's a 95 VS Berlina Sedan) and has...get this...45K kms on the clock!! It's like a two year old car! Except he has touch parked a lot with it...and we know someone who can work on those dings for cheap Just got to book it into the mechanics ASAP for RWC, then get insurance, then organise a tow bar...and book myself in for a dressage or showjumping comp!! It's got electric everything, which I get paranoid about (thinking of things failing in the middle of nowhere with a horse float attached...), so I'll just have to place a little faith in it. Importantly, it has ABS brakes and I think I'll like the cruise control feature, with speed alert. It's really, really fancy for my car standards! Still it's just a car and it's going to suffice beautifully for towing a single horse Oh, yeah, and it was an absolute bargain. BiL was going to sell us his car but he ran into some hitches that would have delayed the car sale and DP felt bad thinking about this other car because he'd agreed to buy BiL's car...then BiL said to 'go for it' when he heard about it, cos he can't get his own arse into gear and he was relieved to be off the hook! Worked out better for us, this car is better cos it's got ridiculous mileage.
Good idea about using the library, Bath! I'm getting into trouble around here for using BB too much. I'll go nuts on here when DP comes home, and it irks him to see me on teh puter...and all I want is to unwind while he plays with Oscar! Oh, well, better do the PR job and cut down on my visible time on BB
Got to ride my horse today with Osc, and it was his first time using the bareback pad...what a difference! Not only was he comfortable, but because he could hold onto the monkey-grip loop on the front of the pad, his position was just beautiful and correct. We had a ride together and then he started to get a bit delicate - humidity and a very sweaty head under his hard hat He had a mini-meltdown, so I had to bustamove pronto.
I wonder how Wade will go tomorrow! I hope he loves it. I think it's a great idea about care for Niall, Bath - and the CAE sounds a bit too ideal!
Mel - movies would have been just perfect this week, how nice!
Better go, I'm supposed to be researching car insurance...
Just gonna talk about this here and not in the other forums. You'll see why!
I hinted at this on my FB page, so here are the details and I won't talk about it on FB either (not publicly).
Today Oscar fell off the deck. And not back onto the deck from the rails. He fell off on the wrong side of the deck. IT'S A 3 METRE-ODD DROP!!!!! DP was just in the kitchen right near him, making my iced coffee and I was in the next open area on the phone to the insurance people for the car when we heard a loud cry. Tom looked out and couldn't see...then he could and he bolted down! If I hadn't been on the phone, I probably would have panicked a lot more than I did, initially! He was on his front and got up to stand and was very upset (duh!) but he only said his elbow hurt - everything seems fine now. He had some Babu as soon as I finished with insurance man (cos he was getting Daddy cuddles and I was happy to let them do that cos I want him to seek Daddy for comfort from now on, too, not just me) and fell asleep.
I'm not surprised, though I'm not happy he had to go an make an experiment of it He pushed his little chair up to the (very much legal height and width) deck rails and went over. Last week he was climbing the table before I caught him at it and moved the table away. I took him back to the edge, holding on tightly, and put him over it a bit and said "danger danger danger, that's a good 3 metre drop" (realising he has little concept of distance measurements!!)...but no, he had to give it a bloody go.
Sure, I'm laughing now cos he's unhurt and it's just so typical of him, but shiat! It was scary! So, if my dad thinks Oscar's NOT going to climb his ladder against the wall to access the lower roof, he's dreaming. If he thinks that once on that lower roof Oscar wouldn't then climb the next ladder to the higher roof, he's absolutely deluded!! The boy must really have thought he could fly
definitely gonna see if the diving club can make an age exception for training!!! I was right when I reckoned the 10 metre diving board would not faze Oscar one iota. At least he'll land in water! Though he might have a bit more respect for the diving boards now
Sorry for long post, I wanted to share that with you, but didn't want to attract dumb arse comments in the Boo Hoo room.
Is anyone else experiencing kamikaze moments with their Junies, or other kids when they were this age? Is the only solution clipping their wings or hobbling them? I reckon Oscar would still escape with hobbles!
Heart rate regulating now...
Mel - FYI, there's a new underwear shop opening in Upwey, in the biggest floor space shop on the street. They'll have fitters there, too. I am so excited about it, not just cos it's underwear I won't have to travel to get to (well, apart from foot power), but it means every last shop in Upwey's main street is now occupied! it's been a dead space for a year now, and the last few years saw rent hikes and many vacancies, like Belgrave was a few years ago and it's very sad to see. So, now my bra money can be spent locally, too Another thing to do when you're checking out the fairy shop!!

: remembered something
Oh Maya I feel for you! Not sure if you recall our deck but it is pretty high and I have fear of Flynn going over! Must fly cause mum and stepdad are over...
Oh Maya!!!! Thankgod Oscar fell the right way... what was at the bottom? Lawn? Oh Geeze... and I was panicking about my mother's decking... a 2m drop but there was cement beneath. Niall did the same thing... pushed a chair to hang over the railing's edge... and he tends to yell "TO INFINITY AND BEYOND!!!" and leap when faced with a height arrrggghhh our boys are going to send us white (grey) overnight!!!
DH cooking dinner again... similar scenario to the other night... hungry feral kids... better get back to it!
I think he bounced because he landed on his front and because underneath is packed soil (is path to the garage and is unsealed and no gravel, just dirt) and it had just been soaked with the day's rain. I think the ground was slightly bouncy, as a result. He has declined further offers to jump from the deck was just checking to see if he learned that lesson!
I'm hoping he flipped over to the other side to hang before coming off, otherwise is was a 4m fall!! But thinking he might have made it down the other side first - surely it would have been worse at 4m?
Oscar's first day back at childcare today and he was beside himself when I left him. When I got back at 12.30 (we decided a whole day would be way too much for him in a new room with the way he was feeling) he was happy as Larry and didn't want to come with me! I stuffed up and squished in a playdate, though, and it started out ok and just went horribly wrong, with Oscar-standard meltdowns (so, really, nothing major, but I knew he was spinning out). So I brought him home, where nothing held his attention for too long before he pushed himself too far. He's now asleep - he needs it! I'm glad he hasn't seen Toy Story with volume, or he'd be saying what Niall says! (He watched it on the plane, but refused the headset, so only saw the pictures!).
Mel- is work gearing up yet? Will it be on an even keel by the time students are starting?
Better pack up paints now...
