Babies Born March 16th-31st 2009 #1

We didn't get to weigh and measure today because the place was closed :doh: Will do it in the next few days! Found out today that my partner has TWO WEEKS of night shifts, I thought it was just the one. It is 10pm-6am (was only 12am-8am because of the public holiday yesterday). After that he has two weeks of 2pm-10pm which will be nice I think, then two weeks of 6am-2pm which is also quite good... then it is back to the dreaded 10pm-6am!! I'm hoping it gets easier as time goes on but last night, I was really struggling. I've managed to have a lot of sleep today so hopefully, if I don't get much tonight, at least I won't be climbing the walls! The only good part was having the big bed all to ourselves. It meant I could have her in the middle and then move to either side to feed her -- if that makes sense.

Took her out shopping today and got a few toys (there was 30% off at Target). She seemed to love this one that lights up and plays music -- she went hysterical trying to smash it with her little fists! Also got a couple of dummies but I'm not sure if I will use them, sort of a last resort thing. I know she loves to suckle because if I would let her she would hang out attached to me all day.

At the moment we are in sposies because we don't have a washing machine (I know, crazy with a newborn) and trying to cart her masses of washing down the street to the laundromat is already quite the effort. I think I would go insane trying to manage nappies as well! When we get a machine of our own (soon, I hope!!!) I will be making the switch. I think sposies are good for us while we are still trying to get on top of everything. She showed up early so we weren't quite ready with everything!

wow this thread has been really busy today!!!

ok moogoo is a cream that I got put onto by the girls in the cloth nappy thread...so far been using it for myself not for Susanna yet! definitely is helping out with the pad irritation! and the graze isnt even stinging as much! try googling it, its the MSM Soothing Cream that I'm using! supposed to be great for nappy rash and is safe for use with nappies.

pawpaw ointment hey...so I could have actually been putting stuff ON the graze? I didnt think I'd be able to put anything on it lol!!!

we're using cloth, and its going really well! we're using prefolds that I made. we have 24, but I think we need another 12. atm we're washing every day, but if we have another 12 then we can have the odd day without having to do a load!!

not sure how many kids we're going to have!! we're both open to a large family, but will just take it one day/baby at a time hehe! as for age gap, around 18months - 2 years I think but we'll see :)

Jitterbug I'm so impressed with you surviing the whole night yourself! DH and I have been tag teaming and I dont know how I'd cope if he wasnt here! another 2 weeks till he's back at work and then things will change for sure!

bubs is still spitting up after every feed, whenever she falls asleep at the breast, she wakes up about half an hour later with wind and needing to spit up, so I am spending 20 -30 minutes after each feed burbing and trying to settle her!

trinity - we are into 3x000's as she is long and just abouts fills the tummy area. ally is weighing around 5kg and has grown to about 55cm (from 51.5). she is also abit of a chucker just like jayden so we go through alot of chuck rags.
i think we are done having kids now that i have my baby girl i am happy. hubby will go in for the snip in a yr or 2. my bleeding had gone away and i just started taking the pill but for some reason my bleeding has come back even though i am on the active pill. has anyone else had this? its not heavy but enough to be annoying.

ally can lift her head right up and can even wiggle around, she is starting to look right at us now and gives us little smiles. i cant believe how quick the time is going i just want her to stay this little for as long as possible. i finally have a great pic of her and me now.

Sorry all I have been out of this thread for some time and now it is taking off. I have just read through all that I missed and am so happy we are all doing well.

Just a general summary this time as I have been out to long for personals yet.
I also have a dd aged 2 (Poppy) and I do feel guilty that i am not spending enough time with her. I am sahm mum and she is used to having me all to herself. Suffice to say there have been a lot of tantrums, and the occasional hit or kick to Sascha's head. (sascha comes through just fine though).

Sascha is in 000 and almost 5 kilos and we need to move up a nappy size too, she is also now smiling and cooing, which is so adorable. I do want another child but will wait a couple of yrs as I could not cope with a third any time soon!

I have had a terrible time bf and now have her almost weaned to formula. This is one of the reasons i have not been on the thread lately. I have stopped feeling guilty about not bf as I have to cheer up for my girls and Sascha is now thriving on formula. I had severe nipple damage which I hope does not scar, Thrush and Vasospasm. I bf dd2 for almost a yr so to stop at 4 weeks is sad.

My bleeding has stopped and my c section scar is healing well, I am ready to start exercising to get rid of my leftover pregnancy kilos now too. I lost 11 kilos in the two weeks following the birth but still have 7 more to lose.

Sorry for the long post but needed to catch up, will pop in daily from now on.

things are well here, only got woken up by bunny twice during the night :) is a lil frustrating that whenever she needs a feed it takes about an hour cause she needs to spew, burp and then be settled back down after shes fed lol! but shes so adorable u cant be annoyed lol!

I really love how big and busy our baby group is! So wonderful to have a bunch of people you can debrief with. Had our second night alone, was a bit better than the first but I'm still dreading the next one. I think it will get easier as time goes on but... and this probably sounds really silly... I get a bit scared at night. Last night I had a dream that somebody broke in and I couldn't get back to sleep -- I went around the house checking all the windows and doors but still didn't feel safe enough to close my eyes!!

poppysmum - sorry to hear about the breastfeeding problems but its great that u gave her 4weeks. the most i have done was 3 weeks boobs just didn't want to co-operate.
i was feeling like that with jayden but i get him to help look after ally and he seems to enjoy being the big brother so doesn't feel like he is missing our time alone. i try to make up for it when daddy comes home and he takes bubba for a bit then we swap.


mrsc- i have the same problem with ally she will wake only once during the night but she wont go back to sleep for at least an hour and half as it takes that long to feed and burp esp when she cant burp up for 10min but wont drink either - long process. i am hoping it will get better in the next few weeks.

jitterbug - i would be the same i am constantly checking locks as i get paranoid that their not locked. i hope tonigh will be easier for you.

Poppys Mum - :hug: re BF issues I too hope Poppy settles into the big sis role soon too
Mrs Aussie C - Charlotte is waking up 2 times 12 and 4 taking about an hour with the expressed bottle too. She seems to be really irritable between 9pm and 12am feeds though :(

Sorry you had BF problems Poppysmum, Noah is the longest I've ever fed out of the 6, so dont feel bad, I feel like chucking in the boob's myself some days.Today being one of them, I find it hard when he wants boob all day long with the other kids & housework to tend to.

Noah likes to fiddlefart around at night as well MrsC,wonder why that is LOL, must be beacause he has me all to himself......

Does anybody like those bonds easysuits? I love them, at first I found them a bit hard but now I've mastered it. DH on the otherhand rofl, takes him a good 5 mins to change. he he

storm, i like em but DH cant use em so its no use. wont buy anymore. i heard if you get the next size up they are easier to put on.

linda- where did you get your photos done? i heard that a place called 'little images' at alderley are really good and dont cost an arm and a leg like 'portrait place'. i emailed them last week and they havent gotten back to me so i dunno if i will use em after all.

jitterbug- did you see my post in your other thread about where to weight bubs?

mrsC- thats great you are getting some good sleep periods out of bunny! i am finding that from around 8 -12 or 1 Chelsea is really fussy at the boob, and cries a lot but then she will sleep for a good 4 hours after that.

poppysmum- i understand that it is a very busy time, so dont worry if you cant do heaps of personals. i am making the most of DH being at home still, next week is probably gonna be a different situation and i wont have much time to get online, or scratch my own bum for that matter. :-) i dont know how i am gonna get through next week without DH home! ARGH!

anyone got their stimulus money yet? i am checking and re-cheking each day! HURRY UP! :-)

Hollo -- Yes, thanks! I called the health care nurses but the one in my area is only open Tuesdays... they gave me a few names of chemists in the area that have facilities, though so will check it out sometime this week!! I probably should have responded in that thread but I got the number and then called them up, then sort of forgot what I was doing but thank-you for that! I'm gunna go sprinkle some rep on you since I just worked out how to do that :D

Hi, I thought I'd put a quick post as I couldn't find some of the overdue mum's from the bellybuddy thread in the baby's born in April thread.

I was due on 27 March but was 8 days overdue in the end with

David Charles arriving on 4th Apr weighing in at 9lb 11oz or 4.42kg

delivered by emergency caeseraian after a long labour we're all doing well.

PM- Sry to hear about your b/fing problems, you did so well to get to 4wks you should be proud.

JB- I also love how busy our group is.

Linda- I bet the pics of Miss C turn out great, i got some of Cookie taken at 8 days & they turned out so well.

Jo- I love the easysuits & still use them on Maddi as it's they only outfit she can't take off.

Kell wtg on Ella's weight gain, i don't think Cookie is far off 4.2kg.

Auzzie- Nice to hear from you, i was wondering how you went.

Josh is starting to get grizzly after each feed to....except for the middle of the night one thankfully!! Im not a huge fan of being home alone even in the day time....so big hugs to all of you who are doing the night shifts alone!!

Is everyone else doing the Mummy's Group thing??? My midwife never mentioned it to me, but a friend just told me one starts here on the 13th May and recons I should just invite myself along!!

kellbell and storm -- we have a few of those Bonds Easy Suits (they are so cute) and it is the opposite here, I can't figure them out but DP has them on and off like a pro. I always make sure she is changed into something else before my solo nights but I am getting better at it haha

Hollo -- also haven't got our money yet. Really looking forward to it because we are going to splurge on a washing machine! I never realised how much a little thing could dirty and even though the laundromat is on the end of our street, it is still a bit of a mission that I am keen to cut out of my days! Here's hoping we all get ours soon!!

Helen_au -- I was told about a Mummy's group in my area but I am a little nervous about joining! I might check it out and see how I go, it will be good to know children of a similar age so that DD can have some playmates but yeah, I'm a bit socially awkward!!

We are going alright here. Last night wasn't too bad... I was a little panicky for the first hour because the day had been constant feeding and I was worried it would continue through-out the night and that I wouldn't be able to cope on my own. Surprisingly, though, DD had a feed around 1am and didn't wake until my partner got home at around 6:20am! It is probably a once off but it was good to get such an extended period of uninterrupted sleep. One more night till the weekend... :dance:

i joined a mothers group when i had my first DD and we still meet every week. there are 11 kids in our group now because most of us have had more babies. we are all really good friends. if tehre is one thing i would reccomend it would be to go to the very first mothers group meetings because once a group forms it can be quite hard to 'fit' in with the everyone. (before i found this group i went to a a group that had been formed for a year already and i found it very hard to fit in).

Jitterbug- the health clinics that i was telling you about organise a class for first time mothers from about 6weeks of age and this is where our group formed. from memory it was called first steps or early steps program.

welcome Auzzie- glad to hear the good news about the arrival of your little one. i couldnt even find the april group when i started posting in here. i think i will stay here though. :-)

Took Cookie to the Dr's because her belly button looks infected & the Dr said she has a Umbilical hernia. Gonna ask the MCHN what she thinks on Saturday as the Dr (not our usual one) didn't know anything about babies. Poor Cookie keeps crying likes she's in pain & there is nothing i can do for her.

Oh no Mo. Both Zac & Angel had those, they were horrible, but they just had theirs tied off again & they fell off, & now they have lovely belly buttons!!

Ella only wants to sleep when shes being held, are you supposed to let them cry, im not getting anything done between the breastfeeding and the carrying, any ideas?

Thanks everyone, David is settling well apart from a night time.
He seems to sleep for about four hours during the day, wakes for a feed then after a cuddle and nappy change drifts off to sleep again a litle angel. He is much the same of a night time except the occaisonal night where he becomes a gremlin..he takes a few hours to get to settle. David sleeps in basinett in our room, or in our bed depending on how long we've been trying to get him to sleep. Can't seem to work out why he fusses so much, like last night he spent a few hours of an evening not settling and then again at 4am with a good sleep in between. Other nights it seems to be first off and then once he's been asleep and woken 4 hours later for a feed he goes off to sleep in the basinet.

It just seems he has a feed, and drifts off to sleep in arms and then as soon as you put him in the basinett he wakes crying. can't work out why...

Auzzie a lot babies do that. Do you wrap David? He may wake because he likes the feeling of being held so wrapping can help with that.
You can try sleeping with one of his blankets & then using that blanket the next day so it smells like you, that may also help. Some babies just have days where they want cuddles.

Jo I really don't trust anything that Dr had to say, she had to use the internet & a medical book to look everything up. So I'll ask the health nurse tomorrow what see thinks about everything.
It's good to know both you kids have cute belly buttons makes me feel a lot better :)

Kell here are some idea's for you.
1. trying using a sling, they are great for doing things around the house & most of the time they keep baby happy.
2.Trying wrapping Ella up tightly, she may just want the feeling of being held.
3. She may have wind.
4. if you feel comfortable doing it, you could putting her down on her tummy after she has fallen asleep.
As for the crying that's your choice, some people will say they only cry at this age for a reason, others will say let them cry. It really is a personal choice.

Thanks to all of you re the support towards my bf problems it really does make me feel better.

Mrs C - feeding at this early stage does take a long time, but it gets quicker each month. Bunny is learning how to bf just like you are and I bet she is loving being so close to you.

Jitterbug - I felt the same as you towards Mothers group but you all have your babies in common and that gives you all something to bond and talk over. I really hope you go and like it. I liked that we all went through the same stages with our babies and could offer support. It is also fun to watch your babe interact once they are older.

Treena - Poppy is also my little helper and is surprisingly good at it, fetching me nappies, wipes, dummies whatever i call for really. She is growing up so fast now its scary, yesterday she had her 1st haircut and peed in the potty!!

Hollo - I had DH for one week and I hang out for him to get home each night. The day goes by so fast, it still amazes me! We are also waiting for our 'Ruddy' as we call it. Though it is going into our debt. We will buy a few things but not much.

Kellbell - I agree with all that Trinity said. Its really normal behavior for little babes and mine is the same. I find that wrapping her really helps not to wake her as i transfer her to the cradle. And i keep a hand firmly on her chest as i put another blanket over her and tuck it in firmly.

Sascha is settling into a feeding and sleep pattern now, she sleeps at night from 7pm to 2am and feeds again at 6am. During the day she eats around 9am and every 3 to 4 hourly after that. I bath her each night as she loves it and it has really helped to settle her. My DH and I cherish the quiet nights we have been getting with both girls in bed. Though last night Poppy was up crying till about 2am with her last molars breaking through. I have learn't through her that routines and patterns always fluctuate and to enjoy them when they are stable!

Will do personals later, have a couple of friends dropping by so just need to be quick! Did a weigh in today and Immy is up to 4.16kg!! Her last weigh in was 17 days ago at 3.1kg -- so quite a large gain (1.06kg or about 440g a week)... now I am going to be stressing that she is gaining too much... :rolleyes: yes, I am a paranoid first time parent hehe!

Jitterbug I am the same way with social situations....I even freaked out going to town to get my sisters b'day present...I kept thinking what will I do if Josh starts screaming everyone will stare and think Im a bad Mummy (I do know thats silly, but I freaked anyway) Im glad I will know one of the other Mums going into it! Glad you got a good chunk of sleep and no night shift tonight :) Enjoy it :) Awesome weight gain too...you sound so much like me, I get paranoid with everything like that too!!

Trinity I hope the MHCN can be of more help with Cookie's belly button on Saturday, its so annoying when the Dr doesnt seem to know what they are doing!

Auzzie I would try wrapping as well if youre not already....plus scenting a blanket, or even using a shirt you have been wearing is a great idea too!

Finally we have seen some Ruddy money here :dance: Only one lot tho....Im thinking its mine cos DH's probably got sent to the accountant, so I guess they will pass it on to us (well I hope they do anyway!!) And I figured out what the other government money I got was.....Baby Bonus (duh me I forgot that was coming lol) So now I have to be very good and try not to spend it all (glad I didnt realise it was there when I went shopping this morning lol)

As for Josh, he is doing pretty good.....he still has a few little chucks thru the day, but it doesnt look like a bottles worth each time so thats gotta be good :) His sleeping is still rather unpredictable, but Im getting used to the randomness of it all if that makes sense (My Dad says that means Josh finally has his Mummy trained lol)

Cookie weighs 4.1kg & is 52.5 cms long.
Health nurse can't figure out why Cookie is in pain either, she said it may be reflux so to try some mylanta & we did notice her left arm doesn't go as high as her right so she suggested a visit to the Chiro. She does have a hernia but said it should go away by it self.

poppysmum- yeah for peeing on the potty - jayden is slowly getting there.

auzziechick- congrats on david! - i had the same thing with ally as soon as i put her down she would wake up and would get her hands out which is how she was waking herself up so she is now a tummy sleeper and she goes straight to sleep. all my kids seem to be tummy sleepers never liked lying on their backs i was lucky thought they could all lift their heads as soon as they were born making it easier.

kellbell- its up to u if you want her to cry i let ally cry for a few minutes to excercise her lungs just a few times other times i pick her up straight away. maybe a swing would help so you can get somethings done around the house.

helen - i am lucky that i have a few friends with bubbbas close in age to ally so we get together every week or 2, i am quite a shy person and dont think i could go to one- i never did with the boys- but they always had playdates with friends kids the same ages.

mo- sorry to hear about cookie's sore belly button hope it gets better soon!

AFM- we had a great night last night ally went to sleep at 9:10pm and didn't wake until 6:10am - yeah it was the best night sleep i have had in at least a year. no wto try and get her to do that everynight. during the day though unless she is asleep she just wants to be held all the time. i am looking in to getting a swing as i think this may help.

Thanks for the advice. I put her on her tummy to sleep the last two days and she had been more settled. Except at three o clock this morning, she was so widddeeee awake

I think ill go look for a swing, what swings are you guys using?

Kell can't help you with the swings as we dont have one because Maddi would sit in the swing and break it plus she'd never leave Cookie alone in the swing.

Miss C and I went to the Dr's yesterday and he is happy with my CS wound and he thinks she is a great advanced little bub. He is also very impressed with my expressing and the amounts she is drinking. Miss C is weighing 3.48 Kgs and DH and I got the whooping cough booster and me an iron shot which we all knew I would need.

We had our photos taken and I should get the disk next week there is a preview shot in my signature :cheer:

We are ataking it 1 day at a time she is feeding every 3 hours and has had some grumpy patches over the last few days so Mummy is going to buy a sling so she can be a little more hands free :)

tiggerlinda- oh my goodness charlotte is so gorgeous, she looks so small!!! love the pic! i bought one of those side slings for DD1, used it about twice cause it was so hard to get her into. i borrowed a hug a bug this time and it is a lot easier to use and more snuggly.

anyone using the sounds for silence CD? any success with it? Chelsea is beginning to get a little more restless and fussy. want to try and get her used to the cot a bit more.

sorry for lack of personals, been busy packing the house and now you know who is awake! we are moving in a few weeks, into our first home! YAY! gonna be on a tight budget from now on though.

got a peanut sling from Mel today so hopefully that and th carrier will be enough i needed something i did not have to tie so it is easy when dh is out

oh we'e had a rough 24 hours. dh and i both been in tears! susie has been suffering with the wind more...i did have garlic in my dinner last night so i'm hoping thats why. she took 1.5 hours to settle and stop being windy after her 10:30 feed, and then an hour after her 5:30 feed. the 2:30 feed i think she was just too tired and only took hald an hour...but then we've had more wind throughout the day today!! i have a splitting headache!! tried infants friend last night and it didnt seem to work, but tried it this avo after 3/4 hour and she was asleep within 10 minutes...woke 1.5 hours later with wind again but only took about 15 minutes to get it out of her system.

phew sorry just needed to debrief!! hoping for a better night tonight for all of our sakes! really want to take her to church tomorrow!

Mrs AC :hug: sweetie I had a night like that did you try the free excerices from treat colic it works well with Miss C when she has wind too. Gets it moving

MrsC- we have all been there at one stage or another, its not easy, or fun but you just deal with it as best you can and get through it. before you know it she will be able to burp by herself and it wont be a problem anymore. just gotta take it one day (or night) at a time.

during the night time feeds are you keeping the lights low and trying not to be super chatty with her? she might be thinking that it is play time after her feed.? i would probably only change nappy at night if it is dirty or if super full of wee, to encourage bub to stay asleep.

also, i find that if i hold chelsea upright against my shoulder (rather than sitting her on my lap and holding her under the chin) to burp her seems to work much better and it encourages her to fall back to sleep cause she is all snuggled up against me.

plus, i dunno about bottle fed bubs, but bfed ones can get a bit fussy at the breast to sustain the milk supply. thats what i remind myself when chelsea will not get off my breast and wont fall back to sleep without it anyway. :-)

she seems a lil better atm, we sat her upright for over half an hour after this feed, put her down, 5 minutes later she had a bit of wind, dh sat her upright for another 10-15 minutes, she had a bit of a chuck and she was ok and is now asleep again!
