They think maybe a bit of gastro. Thankfully she doesn't have the runs (I hope she doesn't get them either). Apart from tired she seems to be back to normal today and has kept down a bottle of formula. Doc said if she manages to keep things down we can return her to normal diet today but he said to get some hydrolite and give her a little now and then coz it rehydrates better than just water but we have to include water in her daily food/drink intake now coz 6 months is the age to introduce drinks other than just breastmilk/formula. I'd rather she just have water and I'm wanting to put off introducing fruit juice for as long as possible coz of all the sugar.

oh danni - what a scare!!! hope jazz is feeling better and having some rest too.

im not sure about fruit juice either, i've seen teh nutricia ones 'hint of juice' that say there's no added sugar...

im having a massive headache today.. managed to cook some comfort food and mop the kitchen. put poopy in his high chair while i did that, he was excited for a bit then got restless. he was chewing on his rusk and then threw it almost into the bin.. sigh.

girls hope your day get better..

Prama with abit of luck I wont go into hospital at all instead the cancer clinic up here will give the treatment as they did before. My heamo at RPA is great and very aware of country patients and does what he can to accommodate them.

No vomit or runny poo today thank goodness! We got a bottle of hydrolite to give her now and then as different fluid to milk or water. So tired now! We're about to go out and have a look at a couple of houses then I'm hoping to get at least an hour sleep before dinner.

Got some my first yoghurt when we went shopping today - its suitable for 6months+
The FDC lady gave us one of those little hand held things with the little mesh bag that you can put pieces of fruit and stuff in and babies suck and chew on them. She said to give it a go before we buy one ourselves but that she wants it back so that if Jazz likes it she can use it when Jazz is with her and we can have our own for at home. We got some apples to try in it. I don't know if we'll do anything today. I'm thinking about not giving any food at all today and just sticking with fluids even though the doc said it should be fine to return to normal. She seems a bit tired (not surprising) to be having anything else. Jazz slept for about 80mins while we were in the hospital and then we all slept for about 3.5 hours after we got home. She's in the middle of a cat nap now.

Hope Jazz is better soon Danni. Sounds scary. Did they say anything about putting her on lactose free formula? Bri had Rota Virus at 6 months old & spent a night at Dubbo hospital & had to be on lactose free for about 2 weeks after, coz it ate away the lining of her stomach.
I don't know if they do that with every gastro thing, but I guess they would have said something. Bri was sick with vomitting & diarrhea for over a week (that was fun trying to keep up with the washing!), so it's probably ok.
She didn't have milk for about 4 days & was on fluids for the night via a tube in her nose. Not fun.
Glad she's feeling a bit better now though.

Oh Danni, poor jaz, she must have been feeling so unwell glad it seems to have settled now, probably not a bad idea sticking to just the formula for a day or too, i know if i have gastro, the food can be a bit of an irritant straight afterwards.

I was told with juice that the only way we should give it is if we sqeeze it ourselfs due to the preservatived and also handling... havent givent MJ any, but i think i will give her OJ that i sqeeze myself, she loves oranges and sucks the life out of the sements that o give her,so i guess she is getting it already in a way

    think of everyone else.

We have had the best day today apart form the wind... 23 woo hoo it was sooo good to have a beautiful day, we went for a walk with a friend and checked out all the spring gardens, it was great... hopefully the weather is oing to stay nice.
Was great for the washing, all nappies dry in a day, havent been able to do that for a while

I've heard it's best to avoid acidic foods like oranges until closer to 1 year old.

I've given Jesse manderine, but not oranges yet. Noone else eats them, so I don't buy them.
He won't be having tomato til he's over 1 though. Not after Anth gave him a taste a few months ago!

    are mandarins different from oranges?

    a question about schools...

we went to look at day care centre just up our road, it's really nice, it's council run and just next to a park. there's another one near us but it's private - Active kids. we'll have to decide which one.
anyway we were talking to the carer and she was talking about pre-school and kindergartens.

what's the difference between pre-school and kindergartens? which do you have to go to before you start school? some schools seem to have pre-school and some dont.
sorry i didnt go to school here, so i dont know..
i think we'll go to a public school.

Prama - there is pre school from 3-5. It is totally opptional. Then in NSW kindergarten is the first year of primary school.
In QLD its kindergarten first, then pre school. I think kindergarten is for 3yo & pre school for 4yo, then year 1 starts at 5?? Don't know for sure though as I've never lived there.

thanks skye... i suppose you could do pre-school on some days only. 2 years is a long time to go to preschool.

how are you today, is jaz ok today?

    Morning everyone,

Prama pre school is when they do preparation for school they start to familiarise them with all the stuff they have to do in kindergarten which is the first year of school, in NSW they can start kindergarten if they are turning 5 before end of July of the year they start (some schools are different) or you can keep them back and send them the next year when they are turning 6 that year depends on how ready they are or how ready you are . With the work they do it's learning to write their name and learn the alphabet etc ready for reading, speaking in front of the class, cutting, pasting etc etc

Some pre schools are linked to the local public school and have a few weeks or months where they take the kids there once a week to go have a play in the playground and sit in on kindergarten classes so it isn't too scary when they start. Tahnie did 3 days for a while then did 2, they say 2 days is fine its up to you though, they learn heaps they have heaps of educational programs (well at ours anyway)

My first night without the 3 bigger girls last night, i was so tired i had a glass of red and fell asleep on the lounge, now its a mad dash this morning, i have to start work at 8am but have to drop summy off to mum so have to leave so early.

Sorry for the novel, off to get ready hope you are all well xoxo

If you are doing baby led solids oranges are fine - as are all foods, the theory is that you give what you are eating, especially if your baby has been BF as they have been getting all these tastes already.
So yes orange is fine, so are tomatoes and anything that you want to give your bubs - except whole nuts... and anything with added salt or sugar, so no junk food or preparared foods (which is good, cos it makes us eat better)

MJ had quiche for dinner the other night and she loved it

re preschool etc dont you have prep in school in NSW? Prep is the first year of primary school here... you start that as a 5 year old and do 4yo kindy and 3yo if you want... well i think so anyway.

Danni hope you get the house

gotta go, hard rubbish collection is on monday so are doing some clearing of junk and DSS has a tekwondo competition today - his first one

    thanks.. re- preschool.
i was always thinking if Lakshman was in day care, it would be enough before he goes to school. They teach school readiness in day care, so I dont know if he will need to do pre-school.. He's 7mths and so much to think about already!!!
We have 4 primary schools so close to us, we dont know which is better. I tried to look if there's any rating but there isnt...

trina - i like the idea of them sitting in kindergarten classes before they start...
hope your day is good, does the strange lady who likes to take her bra off come? haha

baby led solids - i wonder if poopy's ready for a curry. lol. i've made him fish a few times, 2x baked and yest i cooked in stock w vegies, he didnt seem to like it. i made fish curry the other day and rinsed the curry off the fish and gave it to him and he liked it. hahaaha.
i cooked some dried apricot and he loves that too.

poopy has a runny nose, poor bubba he was crying all night from 2am. we had to go out really early this morning, we left at 5.30 and he finally slept in the car. so it was good that we went out.

what a gorgeous, gorgeous day.. it's 30deg... woo hoo. we're going to head off to a fete..
