Babies Born March 1st-15th 2008 #8

Hey again,

We have introduced eggs and not having any issues with DJ, he absolutely loves scrambled eggs :) makes it easier when we are having our breakfast he is having the same :)

I think I will stop sterilising bottles. Such a time waster..... Start putting them in the dishwasher or handwashing them :)

This morning I gave him his milk from a sippy cup and he drank it but when I was helping him hold it, he let go and let me hold it. Lazy bugger.... I need to get some new plates and forks etc... been using just spoon for his food and now he is getting older thought I better get ready for when he uses them more.... .also need plates. I only have bowls for him, not plates.

Prama - I bet Poopy is having an absolute ball :) don't worry ;) don't feel terrible it is the right thing to do, think of the interaction he will have with the other babies :)

Skye - great work on the straw :) I need to find a cup or something that DJ will like.

Shell routine and food wise
Bottle at 6 ish when he wakes up breakfast at 8 ish weetbix and fruit, porridge and fruit, yogurt some days its melon strawberries cherry tomatoes and toast.
Sleep at 9.30-10 depends if he has woken through the night.
Bottle when he wakes up.
Lunch 12.30 He prefers finger food for lunch so a vegemite sandwich, grated cheese cherry tomatoes, cooked sweet potatoe chunks, pasta a yougurt or creamed ricem custard and fruit.
If he usually has another sleep then a bottle about 3ish.
Dinner 5.40- 6 ish
he loves fish with veges, meatballs and pasta sauce he has also been having some tinned food to get used to before we go away. Sometimes I just steam the veges whole and he feeds himself. Food is only mashed hasnt been blended for a while.
I give tap water but boiled water in bottles..silly huh. Only juice if constipated .
Cows milk on his cereal as an intro and he has has scrambeled egg and quiche.
Snacks are fruit, arrowroots, cheesymite sticks and full fruit iceblocks which have been great in this heat.
Bath at 6.30 play
Bottle at 7.45
Stories till about 8.20 then bed
He has water out of a cup
Sometimes like today he is having another afternoon sleep as we had visitors this morning and he was all played out.

Am very excited got a parcel in the post today. I won a camera on WIN TV for WIlls santa photo with the bear. It finally arrived its a great camera and does video as well so we are taking it to the beach. Shock horror we get a compo pay out and win a camera this year...come on number 3 am hoping its the lotto *L*

i do have 1 question.. when can they drink off the tap, when do we stop giving them cooled boiled water?

In my case as a resident of Adelaide the answer to that is NEVER! I wouldn't drink the tap water in Adelaide so there is no way that Jazz will be. We buy a cask of spring water and we either drink that or we all drink cooled boiled tap water. I keep a jug of boiled water in the fridge!

Just remember that if they don't drink tap water you should add flouride drops to their water. You don't have to of course, but they should have it & it is added to tap water in most areas.

Shell - much the same as the others ...
No mushed food however, its all finger food or in chunks - except of course things like spag bol...
I havent given snacks yet, but think i am going to start - im sort of hanging onto the feeds at that time, silly really, but i need to know that i am needed!
Water from a tap in a sippy cup - Same as Danni, we use the take and toss, she prefers them... She does however drink what she wants then keep sipping and spiting the rest out, she thinks its a great game!
We have eggs and fish and milk in her diet and have done since about 8 month - only think i will hold off on is honey, but thats only a month away.

Trina - i dont think that its too, soon and i dont think that anyone in here is judging you at all (well i hope not), i certainly am not... from the sounds of things your relationship was long over before XH left... as Bron said, you deserve some good lovin'...
The kids can make it extremely hard, but you are their Mummy and they are very very protective and deep down, as much as they know (esp the older ones) that life is better with you two separated, they really want Mummy and Daddy together as then it doesnt hurt as much for them...
Is there any chance of getting together after the kids have gone to bed so that it affects them less, you know, sort of less exposure... i guess they are protecting their Dad in some way to iykwim.

Well MJ had her first day in FDC today, i was sad leaving her, but i know i made the right decision, when i got back MJ of course wanted to cuddle me, but also was happy to play when i was talking to the FDC lady... She managed to get her to have all her milk (cold in a sippy cup at 11 and 3) and 2 sleeps with minimal rocking *phew* she also put her on the potty (we are doing EC here) and she did a wee (MJ not the FDC lady lol) and was fine with BLS and let MJ feed herself (avocado on bread followed by cantaloupe and watermelon) and didnt bat an eyelid when i pulled out the nappies.
All in all it was a great sucess, and the lady said to me that it was a pity that i didnt work more as she was a pleasure to look after (well she would say something positive wouldnt she)

Also as she worked for years in CC, she did structured play as well as free play with them which was importnat...

I think thats it, i know i have missed something but you will have to forgive me, DH looked fter MJ yesterday and didnt do ONE thing around the house, i came home to dishes, mopping and dinner that needed doing - he got a massive serve and i doubt he will ever say anything about the state of the house again... as i have NEVER let him walk into the pigsty that it was when i got home yesterday :angry:

I finally went to the doctor today. I've been forgetting and putting it of ever since Jazz was born. I'll back track a bit but warning you that it's a bit TMI.

As you may remember, Jazz's delivery was long (36 hours) and hard. She got stuck and I had to have a ventous (sp). As a result I had a large episiotomy, and a major bruise on my bottom (about the size of a cricket ball).

Ever since this my bowels have not been normal. I used to go once every day or every second day, now it's more like 2-3 times every day. I have cramping, the need to do a number 2 comes on very suddenly, often meaning I have to almost "run" to the loo. It hurts a bit to go and to top it off there is usually a fair bit of blood (leaking into the bowl). So, I know she's almost 1 and I should have seen a doctor much sooner given that this has been happening sine a couple of weeks after she was born. Today I went!
Doc did an internal. He referred me to a specialist and said it's most likely either haemorrhoids or damaged scaring. The specialist will use a camera to check it out. Treatment may just be cream if it's haemorrhoids or surgery if it's damaged scarring. Nothing terribly major, just uncomfortable. Unfortunately though I may have a long wait to see the specialist, but considering the doc said it's not major, I don't mind the wait. I guess that if it gets worse though that I'll go see doc again. I don't think it will get worse as it hasn't changed in the almost year that I've been like this.

Sorry for such information.

Anyway, in this aweful heat Jazz has had a bad heat rash. Last night it was really bad, all over her back, half way down her arms, neck and ears and half way up the back of her head. I put sudocream on it which seemed to help. Will put some sudocream on her back again after her bath before bed so hopefully she can be comfortable and get a good sleep.

She's really getting more confident with standing and walking around (still holds things while walking). She has started trying to stand on her own, albeit for about 10 seconds, but it's a start!

I'm thinking of everyone who is starting to go back to work. I know it's hard, but it does get easier. Try not to put too much pressure on yourselves. Make the most of your weekends, get up a little earlier if you need to for a pre-work cuddle. Make the most of the time after work and if you're working part time, make the most of your time with the bubs on your days off.

Skye, I just had a proper look at your sig and realised that Jazz is only 1 day older than Jesse...bit slow huh? LOL.

Bron - question for you... when we go to pick poopy up, yest i did and today steve did, when we peek at him, he's happily playing but when he sees us, he cries. i dont think he's upset he has to leave or he's upset he's there.
is it because he sees us and remembers we're his mum and dad?

danni - hope it all gets sorted, must be very uncomfy...

I tried something different as I'm sick and tired of Jazz's night time antics. Matt suggested delaying everything by an hour as when I'm normally wanting her in bed (8pm) it's currently still light thanks to DLS. Our normal night routine is 7pm bath for 15-20 mins, then bottle & story. So last night I changed it to 8pm bath, then bottle & story and she was in bed by 9pm and we didn't hear from her again until I woke her at 8am this morning. I also gave her some mashed potato for dinner last night which would have helped to fill her up. I am very slack with giving her dinner coz she eats heaps at daycare. Perhaps I just need to keep doing it.

It's Matt's birthday today so I'm leaving work an hour early to have a little time with him before picking Jazz up. I told him that I would sort out dinner and I made choc mousse last night for tonight's dessert.

Danni - i would say that the extra food is what she needed, it could be a combination of both, but MJ heats eaps during the day and has a large dinner at 5pm.
If you think about it, its a long time without anything to eat or drink that we expect them to go when they start sleeping through...
Prehaps give her dinner every night this week and see if that makes a difference.
Last night MJ ate a massive slice of quiche (the same size that DSS would eat) some potato and carrot, a large slice of cantaloupe cubed (enough to fill a small square pot) and some watermelon

Glad I'm not the only one that has a baby that eats heaps. Paddy has no trouble polishing off a whole bowl of pasta then fruit and yoghurt.

I've given up trying to work out what makes them sleep through. We're struggling at the moment with teeth (only got two so far) and the most acidic wee that has caused quite bad pimple like rash. Slowly going away with lots of sudocream, curash powder and washing with water rather than wipes.

Try water with a couple of drops of lavender oil to wipe. our FDC lady uses this to wipe Jazz (just on some tissue), then she pats her dry before putting the nappy on. Haven't had any nappy rash for months.

Hey Teach, same boat here, we just are thankful for longer stretchs of sleep if we get them
The solution i use to wash MJ is calandula flower tea and chamomile tea diluted with water - never had any nappy rash, if the wee gets a big pong and she looks like NR may start i also add this to her bath.

the lavender sounds good, however i would like to know what she is mixing the oil with as babies cant have essential oils diretly onto their skin, so she must be mixing with something - could you find out Danni as i have lavender at home... ta

Sorry, I don't think I explained it properly. She has a jar of lavender water on her change table. It's just cooled boiled water with a couple of drops of lavender oil in it. She dips the tissue into the solution and wipes Jazz that way, then uses a dry tissue to dab Jazz's bum dry after.

I used to make home made wipes using boiled water, sorbaline cream and a couple of drops of lavender oil. Soak them for an hour or overnight, then squeeze out excess water so they were just damp and put them in a huggies container which keeps them moist. (any airtight container would do for storage).

I don't know how it would go on nappy rash, but FDC lady rubbed sorbaline cream with a couple of drops of teatree oil on Jazz's heat rash on her back and neck the other day and it's almost completely gone now (plus it's starting to cool down slightly here, though it will be about 40 degrees tomorrow and Saturday).

Ahhh OK that sounds good too - i thought she was using it like a massage oil after cleaning - sorry thats me not reading properly again.
I have lavendar oil here so might give that a try as a freshen up occasionally - actually it should be a good one before bed, as the oil will absorb in and help her feel sleepy...

Danni fwiw we are having real sleep issues here too... Its soooo hard to get her to go down, crying as soon as she knows its bed time crying when rocked or patted, crying the second she opens her eyes...
i started a thread on it again today as i dont feel like i am coping with it (possibly due to AF to :rolleyes:) especially as DH is not around to help, seriously i feel like i am a single Mum (although not doing as tough as you trina and skye) as DH gets in after MJ is in bed and in the morning he just gets up and goes so he really doesnt spend much time with her. He is working every Saturday at the mo too and so when Sunday comes around he is too tired to play or do anything....

Prama I am sure they just do it for the parental guilt trip. Am not sure exactly what it is but I know Will just wants ot be in my arms as soon as I get there and if he cant get there quick enough he crys. I know for a fact he has a fab day I see plenty of photos and the girls keep great records and also a beautiful photographic day book. I still have kids who cry everytime they are left and picked up and they have bene in care for 3 years. Try not to worry too much about it.

SJ sorry you are doing it tough sometimes men just dont get it.

Danni I would definatley say that Jazz is hungry. Will eats 3 meals a day and snacks they are on the move and using so much more energy now they need the food. I think it was JO who said it was suggested she gave a hi carb diner to fill bub up ( could be wrong ).Will has some protein and veges and or yougurt and custard for tea at 5.30-6ish then a bottle about 8 ish. I hope the food helps you with settling Jazz.

We are off to the coast tommorow cant beleive its actually the first itme we have been away with WIll. We just havent had the money to do anything so we are really looking fwd to it. Will catch up when we get back. Take care *hugs*

SJ, I wouldn't say that your problems aren't as big as mine, Trina or Skye's. We all have our own problems which are all different. I'm sure it must be tough for you with your husband working those kinds of hours. I'm so sorry that you feel like you're basically doing it on your own.

I hope Jazz sleeps well tonight as she only slept for 30mins at daycare. There was a new kid there, twice her size but a month younger. She arrived at 12:30 when all the kids have their nap. She was screaming and woke Jazz up and then Jazz wouldn't go back to sleep.

I think I need to book Jazz in for her first hair cut very soon, It's almost in her eyes. If she would sit still I could probably get some of it into a top ponytail at the front of her head. Everyone at church thinks she looks heaps older than she is because she's got stacks of hair.

i had a very very hard and heartbreaking morning. lakshman's second tooth is giving him so much trouble, the first one didnt bother him at all.
he woke up at 2ish and we gave him some panadol and bonjela.
his tooth started bothering him and when we got to DC and he just ate his breakie (weetbix) it started to bother him. he was upset and clingy. and wanted me to pick him and all. i felt so sad. i gave a cuddle and kiss and his carer took over. but i could hear him crying so loudly till i got to the car. i went and got some bonjela and applied to him at the DC. Obviously they cant administer anything w/o a doctor's letter..

I'm going to ring his gp and see if he'll can write us a letter. so so sad....


sj - sorry about the rough time.. it's so hard doing it on your own at the mo, and going back to work and all. xoxox

danni - sounds like jazz is hungry at night. i dont think you can overfeed them at this stage, with them growing so much, physically and mentally. maybe you could give her some of your dinner or some heinz stuff. it's hard to be cooking special for her at dinner time when you're exhausted fr work.

yeah, poopy's small at his DC too. the younger kids are bigger than him.. sigh...
