Didn't end up going to the paed. Had a chiro appointment and Leon got adjusted and massaged. He LOVED it! He just zonked out with his arms above his head. My chiro convinced me to cancel the paed appointment and see how I go with him being adjusted and showed me how to massage his belly to help relieve the wind. Hope I'm doing the right thing
He actually had a good night last night once he settled! Settled finally at around midnight, and then fed at 2:15am, 5:15am and 7:30am, settled fairly easily between feeds. Hope he continues this as I'm so over feeding every 2 hours and less.
Thought I should pop my head in here and introduce myself. I'm Kaz and my partner and I just had our first baby, Jacob Hunter on the 11.03.09. I am also posting in the Feb thread because he was due on the 28.02.09 and I got to know those girls really well but am keen to get to know as many people with babies this age as possible! Hopefully I can keep up with both threads!!
Although Jacob's birth didn't go to plan, he is absolutely perfect and things have been pretty good so far. He is generally settled between the over night feeds (since leaving hossy and so far at any rate) and is more unsettled in the evenings. My mum is staying at the moment and her advice around feeding, burping and settling has been awesome. We've had a good day today and he has fed and slept well so I feel like a million bucks and anything is possible! I can continue it all after she goes home tomorrow but I know that's wishful thinking!

Thanks Samm, I did try that with DD2 but it didnt' work for her and she's ended up with all sorts of allergies, so Im trying to steer clear of anything but breastmilk with J as it must be a family thing (mum has asthma, I have hayfever, both girls eczema etc). I think it's just my genes, I have not been able to sleep well since I was 16! Crazy. Pity they don't take after their dad!
Jasper was fine until 2am this morn , then he grunted the rest of the night. I feel worse for him, I just want him to get some sleep! I think also the prob is that I don't want to wake the girls. I would normally let him cry a bit and grunt and let the wind out, but at 2am the girls will wake up as they are in the next room, so it makes it a bit harder. That's why the days have been better.
We'll get there! At least it's the same as the last two times, guess I can deal with what I know. And thankful it's not reflux or anything like that.
We get our jaundice results today, hoping he's ok, but have a feeling we're going to need further tests. DD2 had hers for 5 months.. it's called breastmilk jaundice, no idea why it exists! CAn't be fixed by sunlight....
Hope everyone doing well. Just got the girls off to school, going to have a cuppa now and watch tv!!!! (J having sleep, hoping it will last, i let him cry and get worn out, then rocked him for 2 mins and he was asleep)! x
PS Holly, we have a chiro that swears he can fix anything!! I hope it works for you, it is meant to work so well for reflux. Unfortunately he never helped coco, but at least her spine was straight. She didn't have reflux though. Im booked in with J for next week. xo
We're slowing starting to build up a bit of a group here, it takes time to even feel like you can sit at a computer i think. Hi to all the girls from my belly buddies group and to the new ladies also. I hope you are enjoying your babies and things are progressing nicely.
The last few days for me have been difficult, I was having some good nights and then not so good nights with Charlie and i could handle that because i was getting sleep but the last few nights haven't been very good ones. Charlie's feeding is ALL OVER THE PLACE and i know he's a newborn so i can't expect too much routine to it all but he's wanting to feed pretty much every hour and a half!! His feeds are really quick and most of the time i struggle to get him to have more than one side. For how long do i just go with that or should i try and influance when he feeds a bit more? I think i'm going to call the lactation nurse at the hospital and have a chat, i just feel silly sometimes.
THe real restlessness is at night and like you M23 i just can't let him make too much noise because he wakes his brother up, so i give in and just feed him to make him happy. Last night he wouldn't settle after his 2am feed so after an hour i just laid him down next to me and he was there until 4am this morning. He fed at 4am and then at 6am because i couldn't not and then woke up an hour after i'd gotten him to sleep, i managed to resettle him and he's just waking now so we managed to make it to 3 hours!!! I forgot how hard it is to have a newborn.
Kirst we were unsettled from 2am as well. If the girls were further away I'd let him cry and he'd be fine, but I too have to feed to keep him quiet, I think that's the prob.
We also found earlier on (we're only 3.5 weeks in mind you) that he was feeding too often, so I decided I had to space the feeds. We're on three hourly now (apart from early morn) and usually he's up ready to feed an hour early, so that would be 2 hourly, but I won't have it, so I try different things. He often resettles in the pram. I also got a dummy and it does help during that hour. DH has him sometimes and I go to the shops or school etc and then there's no choice, he can't feed! I also try the sling. But I do find he's less windy and Im sure it's because he's having a break and getting the wind out. good luck Kirst, and yes, I forgot what newborn was like too!
Better go and jump in the shower now. Im meant to be walking to the shops to meet a friend, but it looks like rain....might have to drive (I really wanted the walk though, love gettinga bit of fresh air. Good for the sanity)!!
Meg - i'll send you a big hug instead i hope that Jasper has a good sleep today so you can sit and doze off in front of the TV whilst the girls are at school. And good luck with the test results. As you mentioned -at least you know the pattern from what happened with the girls.

Holly - great news about Leon with the chiro. My SIL swears by the chiro so i guess if Ruby gives me any trouble we'll try that avenue. i hope that Leon had a great night last night.
Kaz - welcome!!! Its great to have a good mum isnt it! I bet she just loves Jacob. How long is she staying around for to give you a hand?

Most of you i know but for those i don't i had my second DS on 10th March - Archie. We are going along ok, but seems that for him the days are the nights and vice versa. He feeds and sleeps fairly easily during the day (although sometimes i am using the white noise cd to initially get him off to sleep), at night it is much harder to settle him between feeds and he wants to feed more often. I know he is only two and a half weeks old, but i am just sooo tired from the lack of sleep. I have been waking him to feed in the day, no more than 4 hours apart to try to reverse his day/night thing, but as i have so much milk still, he is only feeding for 10mins at a time (just like you Kirst) and then he passes out - literally!! I burp him when i can and sometimes he will go back on, but never does more than one side. With DS1 i had mastits a lot and it developed from giving the second side but not completely emptying it so i am reluctant to do that again.
Any advice on how to get him to reverse this day night thing would be appreciated....
Mumma, i hope J starts sleeping for you soon. You must be exhausted not getting any time out day or night! You are a total trooper doing this with your 2 DD's as well. My hat's off to you hon! Hope you get some sunshine to go for that walk. The fresh air makes you feel so much better.

It's been an all over the place day so i really don't know what to expect tonight...
I'm so ready for things to get easier, is that copping out a bit too early?? While i was pregnant i was thinking i was looking forward to doing this part again because this time i'd have a bit more of an idea of what was going on and what Charlie would need. But i don't really feel any more confident than i did with Aidan. I'm more willing to go with it but that still really furstrates me also.
Kaz how have you gone since your mum went home? I'm sure you will manage fine, it's crazy how such a little thing can take up so much of your time and before you know it the day is over.
Samm Ruby sounds like an angel, she's making our boys look like little monsters I love you positiveness, thanks for the encouragement

Charlie is waking, he's just slept 3 1/2 hours!!!!! It only took him all day to do it. I hope we have a good night tonight

Had mothers group today and took L in the HAB as it's one of few ways he will remain settled. Went well! All the other babies were grizzling and crying and he stayed asleep! THey all reckon I'm lying when I tell them about how he is at home! LOL so typical. Lets hope he is like that tonight!

Cindy - Great sleeps you're getting there!! We've had a few nights like that where Jacob "slept through" but he's back to a couple of feeds again lately.
AFM - We're getting Jacob weighed tomorrow at the CHC. He has been gaining weight slowly so they're keeping an eye on him. It's all a bit stressful at times as he has been quite fussy during some feeds - pulling on the nipple and BITING especially on the left (think the flow is slower on that side). There've been a few other issues too like thrush, some damage to the left side, expressing for a bit......yadda yadda yadda. Hopefully we're coming out the other side again. Feeding today has been much more comfortable and he has been a bit more settled.
