Thanks Samm, I did try that with DD2 but it didnt' work for her and she's ended up with all sorts of allergies, so Im trying to steer clear of anything but breastmilk with J as it must be a family thing (mum has asthma, I have hayfever, both girls eczema etc). I think it's just my genes, I have not been able to sleep well since I was 16! Crazy. Pity they don't take after their dad!
Jasper was fine until 2am this morn , then he grunted the rest of the night. I feel worse for him, I just want him to get some sleep! I think also the prob is that I don't want to wake the girls. I would normally let him cry a bit and grunt and let the wind out, but at 2am the girls will wake up as they are in the next room, so it makes it a bit harder. That's why the days have been better.
We'll get there! At least it's the same as the last two times, guess I can deal with what I know. And thankful it's not reflux or anything like that.
We get our jaundice results today, hoping he's ok, but have a feeling we're going to need further tests. DD2 had hers for 5 months.. it's called breastmilk jaundice, no idea why it exists! CAn't be fixed by sunlight....
Hope everyone doing well. Just got the girls off to school, going to have a cuppa now and watch tv!!!! (J having sleep, hoping it will last, i let him cry and get worn out, then rocked him for 2 mins and he was asleep)! x
PS Holly, we have a chiro that swears he can fix anything!! I hope it works for you, it is meant to work so well for reflux. Unfortunately he never helped coco, but at least her spine was straight. She didn't have reflux though. Im booked in with J for next week. xo
We're slowing starting to build up a bit of a group here, it takes time to even feel like you can sit at a computer i think. Hi to all the girls from my belly buddies group and to the new ladies also. I hope you are enjoying your babies and things are progressing nicely.
The last few days for me have been difficult, I was having some good nights and then not so good nights with Charlie and i could handle that because i was getting sleep but the last few nights haven't been very good ones. Charlie's feeding is ALL OVER THE PLACE and i know he's a newborn so i can't expect too much routine to it all but he's wanting to feed pretty much every hour and a half!! His feeds are really quick and most of the time i struggle to get him to have more than one side. For how long do i just go with that or should i try and influance when he feeds a bit more? I think i'm going to call the lactation nurse at the hospital and have a chat, i just feel silly sometimes.
THe real restlessness is at night and like you M23 i just can't let him make too much noise because he wakes his brother up, so i give in and just feed him to make him happy. Last night he wouldn't settle after his 2am feed so after an hour i just laid him down next to me and he was there until 4am this morning. He fed at 4am and then at 6am because i couldn't not and then woke up an hour after i'd gotten him to sleep, i managed to resettle him and he's just waking now so we managed to make it to 3 hours!!! I forgot how hard it is to have a newborn.
Kirst we were unsettled from 2am as well. If the girls were further away I'd let him cry and he'd be fine, but I too have to feed to keep him quiet, I think that's the prob.
We also found earlier on (we're only 3.5 weeks in mind you) that he was feeding too often, so I decided I had to space the feeds. We're on three hourly now (apart from early morn) and usually he's up ready to feed an hour early, so that would be 2 hourly, but I won't have it, so I try different things. He often resettles in the pram. I also got a dummy and it does help during that hour. DH has him sometimes and I go to the shops or school etc and then there's no choice, he can't feed! I also try the sling. But I do find he's less windy and Im sure it's because he's having a break and getting the wind out. good luck Kirst, and yes, I forgot what newborn was like too!
Better go and jump in the shower now. Im meant to be walking to the shops to meet a friend, but it looks like rain....might have to drive (I really wanted the walk though, love gettinga bit of fresh air. Good for the sanity)!!
Meg - i'll send you a big hug instead i hope that Jasper has a good sleep today so you can sit and doze off in front of the TV whilst the girls are at school. And good luck with the test results. As you mentioned -at least you know the pattern from what happened with the girls.
Kirst - a big hug to you too. xx
Holly - great news about Leon with the chiro. My SIL swears by the chiro so i guess if Ruby gives me any trouble we'll try that avenue. i hope that Leon had a great night last night.
Kaz - welcome!!! Its great to have a good mum isnt it! I bet she just loves Jacob. How long is she staying around for to give you a hand?
I'm off to make a cuppa before Ruby wakes up for playtime.
Most of you i know but for those i don't i had my second DS on 10th March - Archie. We are going along ok, but seems that for him the days are the nights and vice versa. He feeds and sleeps fairly easily during the day (although sometimes i am using the white noise cd to initially get him off to sleep), at night it is much harder to settle him between feeds and he wants to feed more often. I know he is only two and a half weeks old, but i am just sooo tired from the lack of sleep. I have been waking him to feed in the day, no more than 4 hours apart to try to reverse his day/night thing, but as i have so much milk still, he is only feeding for 10mins at a time (just like you Kirst) and then he passes out - literally!! I burp him when i can and sometimes he will go back on, but never does more than one side. With DS1 i had mastits a lot and it developed from giving the second side but not completely emptying it so i am reluctant to do that again.
Any advice on how to get him to reverse this day night thing would be appreciated....
Mumma, i hope J starts sleeping for you soon. You must be exhausted not getting any time out day or night! You are a total trooper doing this with your 2 DD's as well. My hat's off to you hon! Hope you get some sunshine to go for that walk. The fresh air makes you feel so much better.
Hi Holly - i have never used a chiro for baby stuff but have heard great reports. Sounds like a great idea to me - hope it helps with J too Mumma.
Hi Sam - sounds like you are doing ok with Ruby. Gret to have some playtime.
Well, i'm off to fold washing...fun fun for everyone!!
It's been an all over the place day so i really don't know what to expect tonight...
I'm so ready for things to get easier, is that copping out a bit too early?? While i was pregnant i was thinking i was looking forward to doing this part again because this time i'd have a bit more of an idea of what was going on and what Charlie would need. But i don't really feel any more confident than i did with Aidan. I'm more willing to go with it but that still really furstrates me also.
Kaz how have you gone since your mum went home? I'm sure you will manage fine, it's crazy how such a little thing can take up so much of your time and before you know it the day is over.
Samm Ruby sounds like an angel, she's making our boys look like little monsters I love you positiveness, thanks for the encouragement
Holly how has Leon been the last few days? Do you think the chiro made a difference?
Charlie is waking, he's just slept 3 1/2 hours!!!!! It only took him all day to do it. I hope we have a good night tonight
Sorry, not up to posting much yet, but I will get there I think....
Noah was born on Monday weighing 11pd 2 oz and 59.5cm long, and while the birth was fanatastic, I lost over a litre of blood a couple of hours later, and nearly had a transfusion, so I am feeling very, very weak etc and it will take me a while to get back on top of things!
He is going great guns, and now my Milk is in well and truly, and is becoming much more settled!! My nipples are fine, but I just have soooooo much Milk at the moment that I feel like I could do with another Bub to feed the excess to!
I haven't read many of the posts yet, so will do so when I get a chance, I just wanted to pop in and say Hi!
I hope everyone is well and getting much needed sleep and rest!
M23, how did the results fair? Hope you had a good night last night.
Samm, Ruby sure does sound like a chilled baby!
Kirst, Leon was also doing the cluster feeds and wanted to feed every hour and a half but to help his wind I've been told no less than 3 hourly! He's been pretty accepting of it although I really have to distract him sometimes and put up with the grizzling.
Oli's Mum, L only feeds for about 10 minutes and one side only. I have soo much milk and he is gaining so much weight so I know it's okay and working for us. What is the white noise CD?
Cindy, hope you recover asap. How's Noah going?
AFM, Leon slept SO well again last night! He fed at 10pm, 2:15am and 5:30am! After the 5:30am feed though he was pretty unsettled and my Grandma came and offered to mind him so I could get a good rest, so I handed him over! He then woke up at 9:30am this morning for a feed and is now asleep on me in the HAB Not sure how much of this can be attributed to the chiro but I'm sticking to it nonetheless! It hasn't been all peachy though, he still had a horrid unsettled period yesterday where he was inconsolable and screamed and screamed - ended up taking him for a walk in the pram and he eventually settled down, although not to sleep Chiro again this afternoon so hopefully that means a good night again.
Holly - it seems that the chiro may havedone the trick with Leon. Your Grandma sounds like a gem - make sure you rest when she has him though.
Cindy - welcome back. take your time to recover and enjoy Noah.
Oli's Mum and Kirst - i hope that you had a great nights sleep last night and are feeling a little refreshed.
You are all right about my little Ruby - she is going ok. to be honest i am a little bit embarrassed that she is going so well when i read all of your posts. But i know my time may come where she is no so angelic and all your bubba's will be. She slept for 5 hours last night which gave me a little bit of time to catch up on some sleep but woke ravenous! Since i give her formula at night she drank 160ml at 2.30am and then didnt wake again to 6.30am. I now just demand feed rather than waking her up every 4 hours at night - i figure if she is thirsty or hungry she'll now wake up. She is also getting to love bath time and it is so funny to see that she has a lot of my little traits at the moment - she loves her water on the really warm side and now just floats and relaxes at bath time rather than screaming when she's put in the water.
Have just mowed my lawns and done some gardening inthe sunshine whilst the poppet is asleep. Oh and i have my first mothers group on monday arvo - i'm a little bit apprehensive about going. For mums that have gone to these before, did you get anything specific out of going?
Samm I LOVE mothers group so much that Im going to join a new one again this time round (my third). I love the 5 or 6 meetings to start at the Early childhood centre, it's all great info. And it's just great to be around other mums with bubs the same age. Like this but in person!
Well jasper has been great today! Slept while we took the girls to the park and then has slept for the last 2.5 hours in his cot. He has even slept past his feed!!!!!!!! I am thinking maybe the cot is better because the room is darker and it doesn't smell of me.
Im reluctant to put him there at night as I want to co-sleep but at the same time, DH and I arent' sleeping, nor J, so is it worth it. Of course he could just get windy again in his cot and not be happy at night there either.
I think we're doing ok considering it's only the first month. I have to be grateful. He's a good little boy really! He does have breastmilk jaundice too so that means more tests.... it could also be why he still hardly opens his eyes, poor bubby. He prefers to at night and Im totally sure his nights and days are still confused!
Beautiful day here, J loved having his sleep at the park. No one around, was just down by the water and was lovely! The girls looked for fish (and DD2 looked for sharks)!!
xoxo
Cindy glad to hear your home and i just saw some photos of Noah on fb, he's gorgeous and your daughter looks so proud and happy to be a big sister. Sounds like things got a bit scary there for a min, i hope you get a chance to rest and recover, I hope Noah is a good baby for you in these early days so you're able to.
Holly i try so hard during the night to keep the feeds to 3 hours but when he's crying and making a lot of noise pretty much demanding a feed NOW, i give in because i don't want to wake Aidan and i don't know how else to get him through when it's some rediculous hour in the morning. I wish i had someone to say, i'll take him for a bit for you... DH tries but he needs to sleep because he's got to get up for work. Tonight he won't have to so i might make him do a bit more. The Chiro sounds like a winner, i might have to look into it.
Samm i enjoyed mothers group and still catch up with some mums. It's not for some but it can be great company and great to be able to speak to people who are in similar situations as yourself. Kind of like this... an online mothers group. The first few weeks like M23 said you'll get a lot of usefull information from the CHN, it's worth going to for sure. In my mothers group there was another mum who was due exactly the same date as i was with Charlie so we now have 2 boys both at pretty much the same ages and another mum has just fallen pregnant so we'll be able to continue on together and still be able to relate really well. Charlie loves his bath also, i don't think we've had tears at bath time since we've been home!!
M23 it sounds like you had a nice day out at the park. It's a beautiful day here also. I took Aidan to the park this morning and then he had a play outside with his dad in the shed so he's had a good day too. I feel more obligated to make things exciting for Aidan now than i did before. It's weird... I had Charlie in my arms this morning and he was just happy, quiet & looking around and i was thinking to myself how can such a beautiful little thing cause so much distruption and how can i get so frustrated at that beautiful little face. The days are soooo much better
We've had a good day here also, the night was another story but it's been and gone now so i'm not going to think about it. Charlie missed his first sleep this morning but has slept well since, i woke him at 3 1/2 hours between feeds and he's back in bed already. This usually means he'll be awake for a bit in a few hours. Today i bought the Brauer Colic Relief for Charlie, it's a natural medicine and i even saw a tv add on it today saying it's ok for newborns so hopefully that might help him a bit. I don't know that he has Colic i think it's very normal what he does because i remember Aidan doing the same thing but it's treating the same symptoms so i'll give it a go and hope it helps him. When you think about it it's such a cruel thing that the poor things have to go through until their stomachs and digestive systems adjust.
Here's hoping we all have a great night and can come here tomorrow and have nothing but good things to say
Holly - It's great that Leon slept so well! You need to catch up yourself darl! Hope it keeps up for you.
Kirst - I remember you from TTC!!! My memory isn't totally shot then! Those nights sound difficult for you. I don't have any suggestions though, aside from feeding him which you're already doing and getting your DH to help more on Fri/Sat nights to give you a bit of a break is a great idea. Just getting one or two nights of reasonably ok sleep a week can make a big difference.
M23 - Sorry to hear you're also up a lot in the wee hours. You sound like you had a fantastic day today though. All you could do is try Jasper in the cot for a night or between an evening feed and see how it goes. If it doesn't work you can always bring him back into your room.
Oli's mum - for you too darl. Being tired and having to get stuff done is the pits! Not sure about the 10 min feeds. Mr. J was feeding quite quickly at one stage too - 8-10mins on each side but he has been more 'awake' this week and I am keeping him going by regular burping etc to make the feeds longer. Archie might do the same thing soon hopefully!! although if you have heaps of milk, maybe he is getting enough?
Cindy - I remember you from TTC too! for your PPH darl. I also lost over a litre but had a transfusion. Why didn't they give you one? I know how awful you feel - I had to wait 3 days before I had the extra units of blood and it was just a total fog. Take care of yourself! I have been taking a natural iron supplement that doesn't constipate. You get it from health food stores - it's a liquid and you take it twice per day before meals (like they're predictable ) - it's called Floradix - check with your doctor but it might be worth taking.
Samm - Ruby does sound like a champion! I feel a little like you though in this and the Feb thread because Mr. J has been sleeping really well at night since a couple of nights after we got home from hossy. I am waiting for the feral screaming and unsettled periods to really start at night too!! He has slept from 1-6am a couple of times now and otherwise just wakes for the one feed between 3-4am and usually goes back down pretty quickly. I know it can't last!!
AFM - It was good to have mum here. She went home yesterday but might be back next week for another day or two. I had a c-section so there is stuff I can't do. DP is technically off work for a month (two weeks to go) but he has had to go in and work a couple of odd days so Mum has come up. It's good because I was really out of it when she and my Dad visited in hossy and I don't remember much.
Had the MCHN visit yesterday. I found it was really full on. She stayed 2 hours and it was either giving me information or asking me for it and I felt SO drained after she left. I'm sure I'll forget a lot of what she said. Mr. J has only gained 150gm in 10 or 11 days since leaving hossy so they want to check him again next week. I am a bit stressed about it! The weigh they did in hossy though on day 4 wasn't done properly - not on a stable surface - which we only found out about later so it's not a reliable number. It looked like he'd only lost 4.5% of his birth weight then but perhaps he lost more and has actually gained more than the 150gms? He was only 20gm off his birth weight but now I feel all this pressure to get his weight up by the end of next week. He has heaps of wet and dirty nappies and feeds really well. Time will tell I guess.
Hope you're all having settled nights!! I need to do the next feed - going to be by candlelight for Earth Hour which will be nice.
m23- I am lurking around hon, just not getting much time to post! Off to get get dd ready for her first day back at creche since Noah arrived, lucky DH is still at home and helping, it all takes so much longer!! BBL. XOXO Hope you get some sleep today!
Kaz you have a good memory, i can't say i remember you also but i definately have a bit of milk brain at the moment. I do at the best of time... We're slowly getting there with the days and nights, it's just that when it's hard it seems so hard but in the grand scheme of things it really isn't, this part passes so quickly. On Saturday night we had a great night and Charlie slept and didn't seem to be in pain but then last night we went backwards again. It's all good, i know we'll get there...
Wow the MCHN staying 2 hours!!!! That seems a bit excessive, no wonder your were physically and mentally tired. The visit i had from the nurse probably lasted half an hour at the most. I hope the weight sorts it's self out, if your little man is happy, feeding regularly and sleeping well hopefully that means the weight isn't an issue and that the inital weight was incorrect. Good luck don't stress about it too much, go by your little man and his temprement.
Hi Cindy hope you are doing well and recovering, are you starting to feel a bit more alive?
Hi to everyone else, our little ones must be keeping us really busy because it is very quiet in here.
AFM we had an ok night, i was hoping for better but that's ok. Charlie seemed to be squirming again which i thought i'd kind of fixed by giving him the colic relief. I acutally stopped giving it to him for the moment because it almost seemed to be making him uncomfortable. I'll see how tonight goes without it. He's asleep right now which is good because the last two sleeps between feeds were grunters. Poor boy.
Meg - how is J going? has he slept a little bit longer for you and more importantly, have you been going a little bit of rest?
Kirst - i hope that you have a great day.
Kaz - great to hear Mr J is going so well. Dont feel pressured regarding him putting on weight, he will get there in his own time. I'm sure he put on the 20gm to get to his birth weight the day he got weighed. I know Ruby put on 50 grams in 2 days so if he is feeding well he will be ok. Make sure you take care of yourself.
Hi to everyone else.
AFM - Ruby is getting so long now. I'll have to sort through all of her 0000 and 000 clothes to see what fits and what doesnt before i go shopping to but her new PJ's. She hates going to bed between 7pm and 10pm and last night fed every half hour. But on the flip side to that from 10.30pm - 4am and 4.30am - 8.30am she slept like a log so i suppose that is my saving grace. She is also has been finding what her ahnds can do, with her scratching herself or pulling her hair and finding out it hurts - whilst a little funny to watch i just cringe everytime she does something as i know it would hurt!!
Now just organising her christening before i head back to work in early June and around all my families/friends holidays. Got my first mothers group today - thanks for all your positive feedback regarding going.
Have been a bit out of it for a couple of days. We are still all over the shop, although last night was not too bad. Fed at 11.30/3.00/6.15am - so only 2 ugly night feeds. Was up around 1hr each time but he did go back down fairly well. DH is back at work full time now so had to wake Archie up to drop Oli at preschool which really unsettled him. He had a feed when we got home at around 9.30 and has only just settled to the white noise cd now
Holly - you asked what that was - its just a cd that has a recording of what sounds like radio static. I try not to use it all the time, but whatever works is still my motto! Sometimes he is really unsettled and if i put it on he is totally out to it after only 1min - not joking! My friend gave it to me. I think they are fairly common. Alternately you can do what i did with Oli last time - just tape recorded to vaccuum cleaner! Truely, it worked!
M23 - i'm really glad you had a better day yesterday. How are you going through the weekdays getting the girls up and out and dealing with J. You certainly have your hands full, my hat is off to you!
Kirst - i have just started giving A Infant's Friend wind drops. Seemed to help last night so will see how we go. Just seems to take so long sometimes for the wind to pass. A's poos are still so explosive, i almost wore one while changing his nappy this morning. He has a really red bottom from it all. I have tried all the usual creams any ideas on a quick fix for him? Seems to be making him really uncomfortable.
Sam - have a great day at mothers group. A christening!! I have not even thought about that you are super organised! A's clothes are all 000. I have so many gorgeous things from last time in newborn and 0000 but as he was so long they never fit him - i'm a bit sad about it actually, he's getting so big so fast.
Cindy - glad its going well with Noah, sounds like you are doing ok. Get lots of rest hon.
Hi to everyone else. Am going to try and get a few things done around here today. Should be resting i know, just starting to get a bit of cabin fever.
Om we had explosive poo yesterday and DD2 witnessed it and is scarred for life. J projecile pooed ALL over me, head to toe, and on my bed!!!!! Disgusting but funny. Poor DD though, she =cried for ages.
J slept appallingly last night but Im hoping tonight I can use the dummy. Prob last night was I fell asleep...again, while feeding and the cycle began. Anyway, going to get up tonight, feed and stick dummy in! Not sure it will work but I dont know what else to do. Not 100% sure about using colic relief yet. Im also booking my chiro for wed. It didn't work with DD2 (I think it' works much better for reflux) but we'll give it a go.
Gotta run, DD2 has ballet but J is due for a feed and DH is due home to mind himm. Not sure what to do. DH has no idea about the ballet/school run on mondays...
xo
