I'm back... finally got DS to sleep, after some serious wrestling. Put him down and everything's fine, then 5 minutes later he's screaming because he's got himself stuck on his tummy and he's turned 180 degrees and has his head stuck under the sheet! I'm worried I'm going to need to get one of those horrible restraint/leash things when he gets older... he just doesn't stop!
Hey Girl - drop in here any time! Yes, I'm planning to go to west Africa in December to visit some of DP's family there. It's the first family gathering with DS, and I'm SO excited about it, but because it's west Africa there's some health risks involved, and it's costing me a fortune to get vaccinated and take all the necessary precautions to avoid us, but especially DS, getting bitten by mosquitoes or getting sick. Most of the medications and vaccines cant be given to babies, and there's lots I can't take while breastfeeding. Really, we should wait till DS is older, but we haven't seen family in years now, and they all want to meet Aadi.
Why can't they live somewhere like Hawaii?? Deancey must be in JetLag City by now... lucky her!
I wouldn't personally get a walker, but it's entirely your choice. I got a Jolly Jumper as there is less risk of falling over (or escaping, like I know DS would!!), and I know a few other ladies here also have them for their babies. I can only advise definitely dont use it for too long at a time and keep both eyes on Yasmeenia, because they can topple over. I know what you mean about the routine...
Sassy - bet you're having a fantastic night! Misbehave!!
Jess - it must be really interesting noticing the differences in your kids' development. Tiahna seems to be very different (from what you've mentioned) to Jordan, so I guess it keeps you on your toes, not knowing what to expect! Did you find out what that rash was? Sorry if you already mentioned it, I can't keep up! I know what you mean about them growing up so fast... I walked past a primary school playground full of kids the other day and had a bit of a reality check - that's going to be our kids before we know it! Hope you're back to long sleeps at night. I got a Pigeon sippy cup like that too, and will try and get DS to take it tomorrow maybe... and try solids again next week!
Mis_tree - YAY! Toothy pegs! Is it just one? Has it gone back down, only to pop up again? That's what happened here, and I thought I was imagining things until DS bit me!! Don't worry about the rolling, just be prepared for it to happen when you least expect it!
Abb - congrats to your DD on such great results! Sounds like Hamish might be teething too, and that could be a reason for the decrease in feeds maybe? Everything seems to go a bit crazy (or is that just me?) and things change, but I hope you get to keep the good sleeping habit!
Bec - so sorry for your cousin's loss. That's heartbreaking. It must be hard not to think about it. But good news that Cameron is doing so well. I'd be putting it in his baby book that he rolled over! That's pretty clever, using the bars. Aadi just wraps his legs around them like some kind of pole dancer and tries to climb up and eat the toys hanging off it!! It's hilarious to see, but a bit disturbing at the same time! Do you think Cameron could give us some singing lessons? The squealing around here is a bit awful... and I only sing to frighten people!
OK, bedtime now. Where did Saturday go??
Thanks your replies Nana and Mis-Tree. Mis-Tree, I too have heard babies who use the walker later walk on their toes. I didn't know your little one has hip problems. I hope he makes a speedy recovery and the problem goes away.
Nana,
Good luck on your holiday when the time comes. Going back the baby walker talk. Besides from the falling over while instead the walker have you decided against having a walker? I am interested in hearing your personal opinion. Yasmeenia doesn't have the strength to push the walker, Lol. She is stuck in one place within those 10 minutes. I practically focused my husband to buy one. I just read an article after posting, how baby walkers delay development (as Mis-Tree said) and for babies to reach their developmental milestones should be left to roll, crawl, and sit to play. So after reading the article I am thinking to place little Yasmeenia in the walker once a week, until she is 8-9 months. Nana, you also said you know other parents who have baby walkers? How old was the baby when they first got one?
I would also like to hear about other mothers who have baby walkers and how their child/ren is doing.
Think I must be a little overtired, as I can't sleep. Plus there is a party behind us, which is kinda not helping. Cameron, my dog and DH don't seem to mind though, they are all snoring there heads off.
Girl- We have a playing station, which is similar to a walker I suppose, but it doesn't move, just spins around- i've seen it in Target, but we were given it from my cousin. I've only put Cameron in there the once so far, as he just can't hold himself up long enough, and i didn't want to damage his back as he leans so far forward. My cousin put her son in it, and he loved it and has no problems, but I would say just limit the use - kinda like everything, use in moderation.
MisTree - Glad Seth behaved himself with you today. It makes going out so much more of a pleasure then a scary adventure when they are so good like that. I know what you mean about the funny and disturbing positions ours babies get themselves into when in their bed. I can't help but giggle when I go in, and that usually makes Cameron giggle and smile to. Many times now I have found Cameron on his tummy and turned 90degrees - he looks so comfy that I think he does it on purpose now (not the accident I thought it might have been), he has done it at every sleep today.
NaNa - Cameron also did that same trick Friday morning, he too had turned around and had his head under the sheet (like he was trying to keep the sunlight out of his eyes). I am thinking about not putting that top sheet on anymore, as he seems to always kick it off or end up the other end of the cot anyway. I would hate for him to have it over his mouth/nose and couldn't breath. Glad the trip is back on for you, my cousin is also off to Africa (I think somewhere in South Africa) for 5 weeks over Xmas, I know how much they are looking forward to it (especially after the pregnancy loss).
Well today we did the usual swimming lesson. Cameron was good today, had had a good 2hr sleep this morning, so wasn't grumpy. Got home, gave him a quick shower then a feed, then put him to bed where he slept for 3hrs. He possibly only woke because I opened the door and walked in to check on him rather loudly, as we had only done 3 feeds at that point, and it was already almost 5pm, this is where I would like to know if 4 feeds would have been enough for today, as I'm sure he would have slept a little longer.
It's so hard fitting in 5 feeds sometimes when he is sleeps so well, as he wakes at 7 (although once again this morning I had to wake him about 7.15 as he was still sound asleep), so they only way we can do 5 feeds if we try to feed every 3 hrs give or take. But sometimes he doesn't want to feed (he is stubborn and only eats when he wants to, definitely not a comfort feeder), and it ends up being 4hrs+ between feeds, which make that wake up feed rather late.
Well getting a little more sleepy now (that TiaMaria and milk has kicked in I think) and it seems like the party behind has gotten a little quieter. Might try to get some sleep - as it is a big day for us tomorrow as we will give the farex a go (it feels like a milestone, my little boy is ready to try solids - i think, where did my newborn go?)
Thanks Bec. I have noticed Yasmeenia leaning forward a little too much during the first two days. But today was remarkable she was holding herself back. Anyways am definitely limiting her use.
Morning Girls
Gee you were a talkative lot last night.lol
It was very warm here yesterday and i am a little tired this morning, Hamish doesn't sleep well during the day with the heat, although he still slept all night and waking a little earlier this morning at 6am but had a feed and went straight back to sleep and is still sleeping now.
Bec - I dont think 4 feeds is enough either, so i have been making sure i give him the 5th feed all though i think he wouldn't fuss without it, i wouldn't be able to give him anymore than that, as he sleeps so much like Cameron i would have to wake him. Hamish gets weighed tuesday so i will ask mchn what she thinks as we havent been for 5 weeks. We also have one of the play centres (given by my sis), hamish loves his, he can spin himself around now and can reach the toys now, he also leans forward a little bit but i put a towel around him to support him.
Mis Tree - i wouldnt worry about the rolling thing, Hamish has only just started and he wont stop, he went from just virtually laying on the floor and not moving to rolling from one side of the room to the other, friends use to say maybe you should get him checked as he shoudl be doing more than that and then all of a sudden he rolled and rolled and rolled. lol Also my nephew never really rolled he just went from laying to sitting and crawling.
Girl22 - I agree with the other girls about the walker, just put your dd in for limited time as there are alot of reviews on the affects they have on babies backs and alot of accidents from them toppling over. I am sure if you limit the time she spends in it and always keep an eye on her it would be ok.
NaNa - I do think Hamish is teething but as he sleeps alot unless i wake him, i cant possibly fit another feed in, i thought of maybe stopping a solid feed and only giving him the one, but it would not make any difference as he still feeds the same with or without solids, every 3 to 4 hours. You must be getting excited about the trip now, i am sure everything will be fine as you have taken all the precautions possible.
Jess - Hamish has 2 feeds of solids now, farex only around 1 1/2 tsp about an hour after first bf then about 1 1/2 tsp sweet potato mid afternoon. He loves his solids and still feeds every 3 -4 hours so i dont think i could feed him anymore, i have been managing to get a 5th feed in last few days but could never get more than that as he usually sleep 11 to 12 hours a night now, and has 2 big sleeps during the day. Yes he has both sides each feed. I think he is getting enough as he has got so chubby lately.
Hi to everyone else, Sass i hope you had a great night out.
girl 22: dont be silly come in here as much as u want. i have a walker for jayda nad she loves it. i think i have it down a bit too low but it stops her from walking on toes. she gets around so fast in it now. she loves playing with the toys on the front tray and she also stands up fully in it now (y i think i have it too low lol) u just gotta remember to still give them lots of tummy time.
my night out went pretty good. stayed at a nice place had a nice meal, went to the rsl but it was very dead. back to the room by 1030 (WAT A PARTY ANIMAL I AM LOL) then i fell asleep hahahahahahaha had to make it up to Dh this morning but. i felt so bad lol.
We got a bit of a fright this morning, woke up to Cameron talking, looked at my watch thought I'd read it wrong, checked the alarm clock - it said 8.05am. We all had slept in. Usually we are up between 6-7am, no later then 7.15am, so this has put our routine a little out of wack.
Well we did our first farex feeding today. Cameron seemed to like it, opening his mouth for the spoon everytime. It was hard to tell how much he had, as he wore alot of it, but I did see him swallowing. How long did everyone else wait to try it again? I was think of offering some more to him tomorrow morning if he is ok with it today. Would that be ok do you's think? Also how long do you's wait to put them to bed? Cameron was falling asleep in my arms almost straight after, so held him for about 10mins, then put him down.
Girl- my cousin's son is almost 3 years old.
Abb - let me know what your mchn thinks. I feel guilty having such a good sleeping baby - but it does make it hard to do enough feedings though.
I got Cameron weighed the other day. He is now 6.7kg and 64cm, so not a big boy, but still following the same percentile. I didn't think to ask about the feeds (it was rather busy at the baby clinic that day). With our 5 feeds, usually the 2nd one is not such a big feed, generally it'll be only the one side and not very long at that (and he tends to cry a little when I offer it anyway), so sometimes I wonder if that feed could be missed somedays, and the next feed would be brought forward a bit. Especially like today, as he woke late then fed at 8.30, we did the farex about 9.30, then by the time he wakes and has his next feed it will probably be about 12.30, so at that point, with half the day over he'll only have had 2 feeds, was thinking would probably do another about 3.30-4pm, then will still have to wake him about 7-8 for another feed. I think I might have to start setting an alarm again to wake up earlier (about 6-6.30) just so we can try to get in that extra feed. There just arn't enough hours in the day for feeding, sleeping, playing and now solids.
