Oooooh, Kat, I have been ogling Ergos online today! I have a baby bjorn, and I find it comfy enough, except that I wondered how I will go all day when we come down for our meet-up. That's what got me thinking about the ergos They look like they have lovely padded shoulder straps and I like the option of wearing bubs on your back. (Although we also have a Mac Pack on permanent loan from SIL, but bubs has to be able to sit up properly before we can use that.) What colour did you get? Did you get one of those lovely embroidered ones?
Naomi: I like the idea that they're extra brainy I had actually been wondering cause whenever I look at Phoebe she seems kinda top-heavy, PMSL! Way cute though, of course!

Nicky: LOL @ rambling... do you ever read my posts?!?
Hope you have an awesome time at your class tonight! Question - what happens if Allira gets hungry while you're out? Does she take a bottle or does your DH just ride it out til you get home? I mean, I know 2 hours isn't a long time but just curious... Would love to get out for a walk on my own sometimes but wonder how DH will go if P gets the munchies...

Sometimes If I am organised, I express enough for a feed, but I am finding that harder now.
Otherwise, I feed just before I leave and she's usually good until I walk in the door. I swear she can smell the milk coming in. LOL
Oh and I am SO going to get an ergo soon.

I was outbid. There's one on there that's still got a day to go and it's already at $95. I'm considering just buying one new for $155... Except that DH will probably crack it because we have the BB and the macpac and I bought a peanut shell before P was born and only used it 3 times, LOL! (Have sold it - for I think $30 and I bought it for $70.) Needless to say, DH isn't convinced that we need an ergo, LOL.

Amy, I just got the black 'ergo sport' as DH is more likely to wear it. He refused to wear the baby bjorn just because it has 'bjorn' in the name and it reminds him of ABBA - yes, he's that shallow!!

I bought it off Pinky McKay's site as they're having a sale at the moment. Still pricey but yeah, I looked on ebay too and you pay almost as much for a 2nd hand one.

There is a sale on at Mothers Direct 20% off and they sell Ergos - I have just ordered one today - the sport. A friend was telling me about Macpac's today and they look fantastic for when they are about 6 months plus.

Thanks for the tips on cheapies, girls. I will have more of a hunt around.
Kat, I have just PMSL @ your DH not wearing the BB because of Bjorn. I have nothing to say, that is just too funny.
And I meant to say before, thank you for saying lovely things about Natty - I can't believe you can think well of her when I complain about her so much, LOL! But yes, it isn't all bad, she's a wonder to me. Thanks for recognising that even through all the ugly posts I make about her
And Nicky, meant to say that I agree, before I had kids I thought SAHM's had it easy. I couldn't believe that people made their partners get up to look after the kids either in the night or early in the morning when they had a paid job to go to!! (Now DH and I are starting an arrangement where if Phoebe is sleeping in, I will stay in bed and he will get up to Natty. And damn well he should, LOL!) I blame our commercial culture that thinks the only jobs of value are the ones you get money for doing. I've seen so many friends who believed the same as me then changed once they had kids. And there's an attitude that was popular amongst some of my friends IRT having children - that "you can change your life to suit your kids or you can get your kids to fit in with your life". What a pile of BS that turns out to be!

Wow - Pinky's site has them the cheapest. Oooooooh... I want one! Might have to butter DH up a fair bit though.
Vic, the macpac is good but if you've got an ergo then that'd do you just as well I reckon. You can wear bub in the ergo on your back for ages quite comfortably I'm told.

Hey girls just quick post, I wanted to weigh in on the carrier debate. The "Friends of the Birth Center" in Townsville make wraps which are essentially the same as the 'hug a bub' and charge $30 for them plus 6 for postage. I think they r great cos they spread the weight evenly over your back and you can adjust them so that you can feed your baby. I often bf whilst walking in the supermarket if Jemima suddenly needs a feed. and i can adjust without taking her out. Just a thought. If anyone wants one let me know.... there is a couple of sights under 'baby wearing' on google which show just how many ways you can wear them with these wraps to.

Ps- thanks everyone for thinking of me I am reading just not posting much. J is waking up at 1030 2, 4, 5, 6 and then we r away so i am bringing her to bed with me but find it hard on my back cos she will only stay asllep if attatched to breast and therefore i can't move..... *sigh*

Took her stats for 3 months the other day

Weight- 6.49
Height 61cm
head 43.5cm

Shes a biggun... not quite as big as allira tho nicky

Bella, I feel bad posting this after reading your post............ (but I will anyway LOL)

Bailey slept from 6pm - 2pm (8 hours), gave him a feed, then he slept through to 7am (He woke up at 430 but I popped him in bed with us and he went straight to sleep). Wow!! I know some people think solids makes no difference, but it certainly is for us - his little belly stays full and he sleeps so much better. I went to bed at 8pm, so got 6 hours of uninterrupted sleep - NICE!! From a week ago I was feeding at least 3 times through the night!! It's only taken 5 months for me to get some decent sleep - LMAO!!

We have a baby carrier that someone bought us - similar to a baby bjorn just a cheaper version (cant remember the brand atm). Bailey doesn't like it much, neither do I TBH, I dont think I am a baby wearing kinda girl. I think its because he was so little at first, it just didn't fit right and by the time he was big enough for it he was 'Mr Independance'. However, I miss those early newborn snuggle cuddles which a baby carrier promotes - but Bailey is past those no matter how hard I try!! I think thats why I am a big 'cuddly/rocker to sleep' kinda Mum - thats when I get my cuddly snuggly fix

I might get a sling next time and use it from newborn - as that will keep nosey fingers off my bub too which drives me mad!!

Naomi - Sounds like your paed was spot on with suggesting Bailey could do with starting solids - great he is liking it and improving his sleeps. I had a friend over yesterday and her DD is 6 months and has been on solids for a while and she finds that whenever she introduces a new food it upsets her sleeping for a day or so (she was doing 12 hours but with the new foods back to a couple of wakings a night for a couple of nights) - so don't know how many foods you have tried with Bailey but just to say if you do try a new one and he goes back to waking up don't worry will prob only last a day or so. All bubs are different though so Bailey may have no issues with new foods at all.

Bella - Thanks for the info about the hugabub type wraps, I may well order one as I have a HAB which I like but sometimes I just find it too hot and fiddly to take in and out of (in the beginning at the footy was perfect as she would sleep but now likes to watch and I find once have taken her out of it, if I don't re-tie it she sits too low - and have never managed to get feeding right in it), but still use on certain occasions but would like a spare as CJ does drool all over it. The Ergo with its clips and straps looks like will be easier for taking in and out of, and am hoping I can feed in it too. Hope J gets over her night feeding frenzy soon.

Amy - Yeah don't know if will ever get a Macpac as the Ergo should suffice, but the one thing my friend said was great about them is you can take off put on the floor with baby in and is like a seat for them so you can stop for lunch etc and they can stay in it. You nearly gave me a heart attach when said Pinky Mackay site cheaper for Ergos as am a bit of bargain hunter and thought I had done my research - so double checked and the ABA didn't display the 20% off till checkout so was a couple of dollars cheaper but sale ended yesterday - so I reckon the Pinky site is now definitely the cheapest around.

AFU - Have got a blocked duct, or had one not sure, but am off to docs today (thanks for advice BG) to get some antibiotics just in case as last night area was very red and hot, but seems a bit better today. I have been doing all the things suggested by the ABA including feeding on all fours, CJ thinks I am mad when I dangle the boob in her face but it seems to work (the idea is to get the chin on the blocked area) but she gets a breastmilk hairwash as the other one drips on her head! Have been trying out other feeding positions too, figuring maybe if mix it up a bit might prevent blockages in future and have found one that gives me both my hands so I can type at the same time as feeding - so watch out for more long rambling posts from me! I am starting to think about what I need to pack for our UK trip, leave a week on Sat, I hate packing and normally do last minute but think I need to be more organised this time - any advice? I will probably still post when in the UK, they will just appear in middle of the night - Raindrops (Janelle) went back to the UK I think I saw on facebook but I haven't heard anything since?

hi all

have been reading but not posting - seeing i almost inevitably end up out-waffling all of you!

Vic - are you doing cloth or sposies while o/s? if you're doing sposies, you'll only really need enough to get you over there and can buy over there - if you're doing cloth, you'll need more room for them. i'd work out to take enough clothes for both hot and cold weather for about a week each - yup, sounds like a lot, but if you hit a crummy streak of weather and can't get stuff dry, you'll need them. i might also be thinking of E being a really chucky bub - so i tend to go through a couple of changes for me each day - a week of clothes for a normal person would only last me two days lol.
with Cerys, you may end up getting gifts so don't need as much, but better to assume you won't (either that, or you can have a shopping spree over there and we can all drool over the stuff we can't get here!). make sure your carry on luggage for C is well packed so you can get as much as possible in the smaller bag. roll clothes if you need to, use muslin wraps if she likes to be wrapped (cos they fold up deliciosly small!). you're going for a while, so maybe take clothes up a size if she is nearing a change over size. if you get heaps of stuff over ther for her, post it back home! postage has to be cheaper than excess baggage costs! will you take the HAB? it will be autumn over there won't it? not sure what the weather will be doing, but the HAB shouldn't be too bad in autumn. even if you just put it on over a singlet (i did this with E during winter, singlet, HAB, light jacket over my arms so we didn't overheat). packin is always a PITA cos you either under or over pack. i guess underpacking isn't much of a drama if you have a budget to get yourself things while O/S but if you are running close with money, you want to pack pretty efficiently and make sure you have enough. ooh, rolling clothes should make them smaller for packing - and allow you to fit more in. stuff your shoes with underwear (but put clothes in snaplock bags so they don't get stinky lol)

Bridg - yay for better day sleeps! that's great news! i have been getting slightly better day sleeps out of E, but not fantastic. she still prefers to be held - if i can get her to stay asleep past one sleep cycle (40mins=ish) i can generally put her down for up to 20 minutes - just enough time to feed myself!

Naomi - am so glad the solids are working for you and Bailey. i'm copping pressure from a couple of people to put E on solids as she watches us eat, and will stick the right end of a spoon in her mouth. i'm doing my best to hold off on it - she still sleeps really well (considering what others are going through!) and i am inclined to try to hold off as i want to go with baby led solids. i think if you make the decision yourself it's fantastic and you'll be happy with it - i'm just getting grouchy with people pressuring like they know better than me than what is best for E! (sorry, little vent there!)

Bella - i'm sorry to hear you're having so much awake time through the night - it's hard going being a new mum when you feel reasonably well rested - running on so little sleep must be very difficult! we've had a bit of a sleep regression here as well - no where near as bad as yours though! E seems to be needing a top up in the middle of the night some nights. generally around 3-4 am. not sure if it's related to DH being home though - she sleeps through when he's not around, but has woken every night he's been home the last couple of weeks (either earlier - 5am ish - or like last night) - i'm thinking maybe she is stirring, hearing him snoring and waking up, as opposed to just hearing me and going back to sleep... i'm hoping that you get some more sleep soon!

reading all these baby stats is making me think E is a pretty small bubba (which is novel, given she seems so big to us now!) - at three months she was only 5.426kg - and was averaging about 115g gain per week - so if that's continued, she's likely to only be around 5.9kg at 16.5weeks - eek! i'm hoping her gain has gone up, but i'm just not sure. which reminds me - must call today to make appt with mchn - i told the fill in chick last time to just book something (e was screaming) - looked last night for the timing - and nothing there - NOT HAPPY! (hmmm, not in the MCHN book either - so we're heading in this Friday to get her weighed etc.) just looked at her book as to what she should be doing "holds rattle for a few moments with deliberate grasp" - hmmmm, you try taking a rattle off her!

ooh, bubba waking - best away!

BG - I only started solids on paed advice - my intention was to wait the 6 months - so do whats right for you and E, Had the paed not suggested it, we'd be waiting another month.

Also - Bailey was only 5.31 kgs at 3 months (and I weighed him clothed at the chemist) so he and E are pretty similar - he's got about 6 weeks on E!!
