RayRay, thank you for reassuring me that I am not the only one that has this problem. Must be a "thing" today, Lily has been sleeping soundly today as well. I have had a shower, dinner prepared, she has been bathed, put the washing away... feel so much better.
Teagz - I will be thinking of you on Wednesday and will have all my fingers and toes crossed that you get a good result. Please let me know how you go.

hi girls,
trying to type quick as mitchell asleep (in cot) for first time today. Slept in Baby bjorn this morning and then on me on the couch this afternoon but cot is VERY unusual. Actually don't know how I did it but so far he's been down for 30 mins. Woo hoo.
He is also needing to be comforted by a feed (but this is mainly at night) when he wakes. He has pushed his feeds from 3 hours to 2.5 hours but I think he's going through a growth spurt. He's also just started being quite windy in the last week - having to burp every time he breaks in the feed and he'll chuck a bit towards the end too. Difficult at night.
I tried to shop for Fruit and Veg today but he had a melt down so I gave up... I hope I get it done tomorrow. Still have to get the thank you cards out too. Anyway he's still asleep so I'm off to lie down too.

Roses - My little Emma started to get very windy too - it happened at around 5 1/2 weeks. The nurse at the clinic said that at around that age apparently the enzymes in their little bowels starts to react with the good bacteria in their tummies. She said it's perfectly natural, and she recommended that I use Infacol and one of the Brauers homeopathetic medicines every feed for a while. The Brauers stuff (just called "Colic relief", although Emma doesn't have colic) basically just helps relax her little tummy, and the infacol makes all the little bubbles of wind join together so they're easier to "expel". I'm finding that it works a charm for me!
Hi to everyone else! Have just put Emma down to bed - she'll normally have a pretty good sleep from now. Am going to go and tidy the house, and try and organise the paperwork (bills etc) that's been building up since I went to hospital! lol.
PS. My mum bought me this FANTASTIC cd - it's called "Peace Baby" (I think). She got it from Woolworths (Safeway for people in Victoria). It's part of our bedtime routine now. It's got really strong heart beat sounds through it, and no break between songs on the cd. I put it on, and wrap Emma tightly so her hands are crossed over on her chest - it's how she likes to be wrapped for some reason, lol - then I hold her upright so her head is on my shoulder (with one arm under her butt, and the other across her back), and sit on the end of the bed and gently bounce up and down. If she's really unsettled I also "shhh shh shh". Usually less than 10 mins and she's out like a light. I know it might not work for others, but thought I'd share just in case. :-)

I'm a newbie around here, so wondering if I can join this group! I'm Petrice, and my DS (Max) is 7 weeks old today. His birthday is 5 May, and was 3.46kg (7lb 10oz). He's our first, so it's all been a learning curve for all concerned!
Hi to everyone and I'm looking forward to chatting with you all as we all progress along this journey of parenthood, whether it's the first or sixth!
DS is currently asleep in the baby bjorn - the only place (apart from DH's chest!) that he'll sleep for longer than a sleep cycle (40 mins or so). He's feeding in 2.5 - 3 hour blocks and sometimes down to 2hr blocks at night - so generally feeding at 11pm, 1 or 2am and then 4 or 5am, so it's been a bit tough going. His witching hour is around 9pm or so, so we're cluster feeding at that time, hoping that he'll sleep for a longer stretch, but we seem to only be able to do that if he sleeps on dad, and the longest he's slept for is 5 hours, but generally only 3.5hours tops. He's also a really terrible sleeper during the day, hence the baby bjorn (otherwise mum doesn't get anything done!) - so might have a look at the "no-cry nap solution" book...sounds like we're perfect candidates for it.
DS is feeding like a demon though - we just had our 6wk checkup last Thursday, and he's put on 2.1kg since his 1wk checkup!

Hi all,
just a quick post to say hi to all including treecyp.Max sounds just like my boy Mitchell. Lots of catnaps, feeds like a demon, first born, loves the baby bjorn / or sleeping on people! However he had a massive sleep 3 plus hours on his Grandma today. So good as I just got to do so much that I haven't touched in weeks. Have to go - he is asleep so I should be too.....hope everyone is going great.

I'm fairly rattled today. My best girlfriend is pregnant -- she was just a few months behind me. She lives in another country, though, so we keep in touch via email and phone. I talked to her husband and learned that she seems to be leaking amniotic fluid and is in the hospital -- she's only 31.5 weeks along. They don't know how long she'll be able to hold on but is almost certainly looking at a preemie. The baby is fairly large --judging from the ultrasound but you know that's not always that reliable-- so that's good.
However, the baby (it's a boy) will still be a preemie (very unlikely she'll go to full term), will have to stay in NICU, etc. I hate the fact that she'll have a scary and worrying introduction to motherhood, that her poor baby will have tubes or IV lines, and that I can't be there for her. (I could go -- I'm on leave and I could just hop on a plane but I'd obviously be more of a hassle with a six week old in tow).
It was so great having Jonah with me right after his birth, staying with him in the room, going home in just two days... My unlucky friend will have none of that. Worse, her maternity leave was to start yesterday -- so instead of kicking back her heels and relaxing while waiting for her baby to come, she will spend the time in the hospital, worried, uncomfortable...
As for me and Jonah, we are doing fine. He still gets wind very early in the morning and basically wakes me up so I can hold him upright and pat his back and has small fussy periods in the evening. I'm waiting for the infamous six week growth-spurt -- he is almost six weeks old. Other than that, after hearing of my friend's news, I have been holding him a bit tighter.

we've juat come out the other side of our growth spurt ... omg it was like when my milk was first coming in! She fed 2hrly like a demon for about 36 hrs then has been sleeping to catch up!

nelly wow, oscar feeds every 2 hours, every coupld of days, and every afternoon/evenong. Then has bigger sleeps at night or early morning.
Yesterday we went to see another LC whos a GP and specialises in tongue tie, and she snipped OScars tongue tie. It was very tight and she could only do a tiny snip. I havent noticed a big change in feeding, but I did see him poke his tongue out over his bottom lip which he had not done before so that a great sign!
Still trying to get the hang of life with a newborn again, sometimes its a huge effort to get out of the house for 5 minuted,a nd thats on a good day when DS1 is at daycare!

Roses - yep, they sound pretty similar. The only time we get more than 2-3 hours sleep, is when someone is cuddling him. He's actually in his cot now, but wakes up every 5 mins or so...he's only been asleep for 1/2 hour and half of that was on me!
He's much better at night - ie. he'll sleep longer than an hour, but last night he was up every hour from 3.30am onwards. Ugh.
I think he's also going through a growth spurt as he's fed every two hours today, but hopefully he's going to sleep for a bit longer (than his usual 1 sleep cycle!) as he just had a massive feed...fingers crossed.
Amazed: hope your friend is going ok and that the baby is well and safe. Nothing worse than not being there for a close friend when they're going through tough times.

Hi all, me and Jade are at my mums, staying at the MBU was great, Jade is sleeping thru and last nite slept 11pm to 8am! Im not taking it for granted though...I think her long sleeps is due to her being FF not BF. I seriously don't know how u guys do it, I commend you, im getting about 5 or 6 unbroken hours sleep at nite, and FF her every 3 to 4 hrs and im absolutely stuffed! Mind you im on a lot of pills for my PND and anxiety which make me sleepy as.
Candice, do u find X sleeps longer cause she is FF?

Morning all,
Sorry I've been MIA, been trying to find a moment to jump on here since we got home from our holiday, but Ethan has been terrible! We were in hospital with him while we were away due to a viral infection, bad cough and he wouldnt feed. He became very lethargic, then suddenly out of nowhere he started to get an apetite and was smiling again! But since we came home to this awful weather he's gotten worse and worse and the conjunctivitis has come back. He's on drops for his eye which is improving, but now he's going thru his 8 week growth spurt. Feeding every 2-3 hrs day and night and longer feeds overnight... I was up every 20 mins last night coz he was so unsettled, not crying just making funny noises and whinging and passing wind heaps. He hardly sleeps thru the day (for the past few days anyway) 15 min kips here and there and cries all day unless I'm holding him... He has started to be a bit sicky too, tiny little spills, but he never did before and it's becoming more frequent. He didn't poo yesterday either and he normaly does during most feeds. He's happy in the morning but it gets harder to crack a smile as the day goes on. He burps during and after every feed but he kicks and squirms while feeding during the day. I'm still breastfeeding and he's still having infacol and brauer colic drops but they dont seem as effective now. I know my milk supply is ok, I feel it rush in after he has a couple of sucks and he doesnt always empty the brest and only sometimes takes both sides in one feed. He's gaining weight, 4.8kg now.
Sounds like some of u are having similar troubles with regular feeds and reflux etc.
TMTM - I picked up the infant gaviscon y.day but it said only administer to infants under 6mths under medical advice so I put it back but sounds like it's doing wonders for Tom.Do u think Ethan would be too young to try it? He's 8 weeks now.

I'm officially fed up woth th Australian health system!!!!!
I'm just having a cry to myself coz my poor little baby is in pain and all the doctors around here aren't taking new patients - eventhough he is an 8 week old baby!!! So I'm left with the only options of taking him to the domain and wait for 3-5 hours to be seen, take him to the moron dr that has no clue and cant speak much english or drive an hour in this wild storm we're having to my old dr...
Seriously WTF are we supposed to do when we move to a new area????

Dee that doesn't sound like much fun at all! Is there a pharmacy anywhere near you that you could try? I've found that sometimes having a chat to the pharmacist can help? They can tell you if you could try the infant gaviscon anyway. That's no good about not being able to get in to see a Dr either! Sending you lots of hugs, and hope little Ethan is feeling better soon!

Thanks Sarah, I feel so sorry for my poor little baby, he's just in pain constantly. I ended up rining the Parents Helpline and she thinks it could be thrush ( we did ask the chemist the other day about thrush and he said it should just go away on it's own and not to treat it unless it covers his whole tongue. Which I thought was strange but what am I to know... so I have to wait till DH comes home with thrush drops, she also said it could be an ear infection... and considering neither of these relate to his wind I have booked him into see a dr tomoorow which will cost me $65 (or $105 if appt goes over!!!) Daylight robbery if u ask me!!!!
