Oh Dee, I'm so sorry you have had a rough time - your poor little boy!! You know, if he was congested and ill he was probably sucking a lot of air down with his milk, which probably explains the wind. Plus, all the mucus will have mucked up his bowel too and can leave them irritable. I hope you are able to find a good doctor locally who can help.
The only reason we were happy to start Tom on the Gaviscon is because we were going to be seeing the doc the next week anyway and we'd already had one refluxy child. To be honest, it's not going to do much harm but until you've sorted out what's wrong with Ethan I probably *wouldn't* start it, to be honest. You don't want to unknowingly compound something.
I really, really hope things pick up for you, I really do.
Tom is doing really well but his day sleeps are crap again. We worked it out but then it changed. Ho hum. He's doing better at night a bit, at least. Had him weighed yesterday - he's 5.9kg, he's put on 1.4kg in a month!! I thought he was looking chubby.
Tomorrow I have my dental surgery under anaesthetic. The anaesthetist said no breastfeeding for about twelve hours after the surgery, but I've been told so many different things! The MCHN said eight hours. I asked the anaesthetist why so many people have different ideas on what's safe and he said they are just very conservative with a little baby. So I'm going to not feed him until after midnight tomorrow night. I hope he doesn't forget how!! I've got about twelve feeds worth of milk in the freezer, fortunately, and he's been having the odd bottle off dh, which is good. Then dh has his vasectomy on Thursday - what a miserable lot we'll be!!
Dee, I am so sorry you are having a rough time. Hopefully your little man Ethan will be better soon. The weather in Adelaide at the moment is absolutely terrible. We havent been going out, as I don't want Lily to get sick.
Lily is doing really well, went to Child Youth Services on Monday and had her 6 - 8 week check up and she is now weighing 5.23 kilos (75% percentile). She is having her immunisation injection tomorrow, so watch out!!!! I think I will probably be more upset.

Oscar slept 8 hours last night and a few times again today, and is making up for it big time now.
He is in his room gurgling and making noises, but not crying, just not sleeping so I am in the do-I, dont-I dilemma. Hes not hungry, but if I let him comfort suck he will probably go to sleep a lot faster.
He was 5.14kg at his 4 week check so Im guessing he should be arounf 5.7-6 at his weigh in next week, he sure looks and feels it anyway!
Immunistaions, oush, booked for 13th July, Im not looking forward to it. I hope he sleeps afterwards like Milo did. HE went off his food for 24-48 hours and slept a lot, like 12hours overnight.

I think you were right about the mucous TMTM... He didnt have a dirty nappy for 2 days then late yesterday he had a big one then another little one last night and again this morning. He slept so well last night, I was in pain with engorged boobs thismorning... lol Now that he has got all that out of his tummy he has stopped passing wind all the time and since having the thrush medicine he feeds alot better - tho he HATES the taste of the medicine... lol he screams at me when I give it to him and telling him it's for his own good just doesn't seem to cut it! ;P
But I am so happy he's feeling better... Tho I'm still trying to sort out the doctor situation... For now I'm having the call out doctor come round until I can get into a decent doctor...
I took him back to my old doctor and told her he's had bad wind that is painful, he was in hospital last week in QLD for his cold and we had to stay in QLD longer as they were concerned about him flying home, he kicks and panics when I feed him and he cries after his bath (all not normal behaviour)... She just said he is fussy and was asking about my milk supply... Ummmm could you maybe check his EARS..?????????????? Dumb woman!! he does have a slight ear infection... Duh!!
So yeah we wont be going back to her!! I shouldn't have to tell her what to look for!

TMTM - I hear u on the day sleeps... Ethan was having 15 min kips here and there, but today he had a 45min nap at 9:30am and went down again at 12 in his swing, he just woke up and is watching black eyed peas videos... lol
I hope the dental surgery went well and ur feeling ok... I need to have all 4 wisdom teeth pulled but have to have it in the hospital coz 2 are cracked... I'm not looking forward to it, the surgery or having a baby to care for after... Hope ur ok.
Dee, how infuriating. You'd think after a baby has had a nasty cold, the *first* thing the doctor would do would be to check his ears!!! Glad you know what you are dealing with though.
Rayray, how wonderful on the eight hours' sleep! Hope he settled again for you. This afternoon Thomas, dh and I all had a snooze for about three hours on our bed - bliss! And last night Thomas slept for five hours then three hours - I think he was worn out from yesterday with all the mucking around to and from the hospital, bottles, etc. Good luck with the immunisations. We had Tom's last week and he was cranky for a couple of days but not too bad. My dd2 has horrible reactions to vaccinations so I'm always really nervous with that first lot. Dh and I are having our whooping cough boosters next week. (Actually Dee when you talked about Ethan being in hospital with a horrible cough, I wondered if he had caught it! There's a heck of a lot of it going around.
Sue, Lily is growing a treat!! I love snuggly two month olds, their chunky little bodies are all relaxed and heavy.

My surgery went really well yesterday although I have to go back next week to have one of the fillings filed down a bit as my bite isn't great. I have two gaping holes in my jaw where my molars used to be and I'm eating mush for the next few days. The anaesthetic didn't knock me around too much, and Tom took the bottles from his daddy really well. It was so lovely to have Thomas back on the boob at 1am though - the first thing I said when I woke up from the GA was "I miss my baby!" It was so hard to hear him crying later in the day and not be able to feed him and soothe him (he freaked out if I cuddled him because I wouldn't give him the breast).
Today dh had his vasectomy, so we are a pathetic pair, LOL. He's a bit sore but not too bad. Fortunately the two middle children are up at their grandparents, so I've got the two self sufficient ones at home to help. Dh and I tried to have a "going away party" last night if you know what I mean but I'm still too sore to do much. I had a little tear with Tom, didn't need stitches but it was where I tore and had stitches with dd1, and it is still quite ouchy. It feels weird knowing he's sterile now - I thought I'd care more. He's quite fine about the whole thing. I guess we really needed Tom in our family and now we're done!
Oh, and dd1 had the swine flu but she's okay now. It knocked her around a lot.

Dannii - what gorgeous photo's - totally love them. Glad things are getting better for you and I can't believe your Dr!!!! Though my Dr is fantastic, she is so hard to get into...... Yep motherhood is fantastic, though I didnt realise how much time the little muchkin takes out of your day..... Not going to look forward to going back to work, but not going to think about that yet.....
Yesterday Lily had her immunisation. I wasnt looking forward to it, but she handled it quite well. Of course she screamed when the needle went in and the fluid was release, but settled quite quickly. We got home and I gave her a settlement feed (he he) and she went to sleep and woke at around 6 pm and screamed, screamed, screamed. Couldnt really settle her, so gave her some baby panadol and all was good in around 15 - 20 minutes. Noticed this morning her temperature is a little higher, but nothing too bad. Will watch her for the next couple of days.
TMTM - DH and I had our whooping cough boost about a month ago. We survived it quite well, but the arm was sore for about 3 - 4 days. We got recommended to have it by our pedeatrician when we left the hospital.
We are catching up with the pedeatrician next week as Lily has a belly button hernia and when she has wind, I can seriously hear it and feel it on the hernia. Have had it checked by Dr and Child Youth Services Nurse and they say it is all OK and should disappear by 1 yo, but I do want the pedeatrician to look at it.

got some good news today, as me and XP were considered a domestic violent relationship, i get to jump ahead in the homeswest waiting list (homeswest is govt subsidised housing, u pay 25% of whatever income you receive a week), usual wait time in W.A. is 5-8 yrs (!!!) but i will get a place within 12 months! so am gonna share with a friend of mine who has a 1 yr old girl until then.
Jade is doing well, sleeps 7-8 hrs overnight so im stoked...she even slept thru a party last nite, screamed her head off in a quiet dark room but then slept fine, in my arms, with Guitar Hero played full ball on the playstation and 20 people talking and laughing!! babies are wierd!!!
we've had some good sleeeping tpday, i think oscar is starting to drop his overnight feed, having less and less each time. I vagueley recall Milo doing the same thing at around hti age, i know he was sleeping 8 hours at 8 weeks so we shall see what the next week or 2 brings
will try to catch up on personals soon, I have oscar asleep in the meitai ATM so am trying to transfer him to the cot, wish me luck

Emma that's great about the housing! I really admire you, you're doing so well and have been through so much. It's great Jade is such a good sleeper! She's a gorgeous girl.
As for me, I'm in the process of weaning Liam. I've been through so much with the breast feeding and have had mastitis 4 times now, it's just not worth it anymore. I'm living in constant fear of getting sick again and Liam is so fussy at the breast, it's not enjoyable for either of us. Because of the recurrent mastitis I have to wean him slowly so that I don't get sick again... it's been 2 weeks now and he's on 3 bottles a day, so 3 more feeds to drop. I'll be so glad when he's completely on the bottle but i'm also so scared dropping feeds incase I end up sick again! Fingers crossed it'll be ok - I dn't want any more hospital visits!
I'm also a bit worried Liam has reflux - he's been vomitting so much during and after feeds. He's always been a bit of a chucker but this last week it's been a lot more - does anyone have any experience with reflux, any advice to give?? I'm going to go to the clinic on Monday and talk to the nurse but thought I'd check in here as well!!
Other than that everything is going well. He's sleeping well at night, goes anywhere from 5-8 hours between feeds which is good. Day sleeps are more of a challenge at the moment, he's really fighting it. The only way I can get him to sleep is by putting him in his swing or rocking him to sleep in my arms, and even then as he starts to drift off he starts to cry, as though saying hey I don't want to sleep mum! He's also not taking his dummy, he cries and spits it out, it's like he knows it'll make him sleepy so he doesn't want a bar of it!! It's amazing how clever they are at such a young age.
Anyway I hope everyone is doing well and enjoying their gorgeous babies xx
KellyC - good luck with the weaning, I hope it goes smoothly. Sounds like you have been having a rotten time with the mastitis! Hope it is all a happier experience soon.

TM - Great news on the housing front! I am so glad to hear that Jade is doing so well at home now! Maybe she loves the noise - all my babies do! They hate quiet rooms, so we always have music or tv going in the room where they sleep.
Sryan - We had immunisations yesterday, and I have noticed that Reuben is a little warm - temp? - but other than that, he seems mostly fine. He was a little restless last night - tossing and turning in his sleep - but fingers crossed that has been the worst of it. I hope that Lily is past the worst too.
TMTM - You must be relieved to be able to feed again - so glad that it all went smoothly! Poor DH, the big V isn't particularly nice. My DH sat in the beanbag for the whole of the next day with a bag of frozen peas - he had such nasty bruising. But, make very sure that he goes back for his 6 mth test.......cause, the big V has a 10% chance of becoming the big SURPRISE! I hope that DD1 is feeling much better now.....wow - you must have been worried about her!
Dee - Don't you hate it when doctors/nurses don't listen. I reckon that Mum knows best! I'm glad that you were bossy with them and had Ethan attended to! Beautiful photos btw!
AFM - Reuben is 8 weeks, and had his immunisation yesterday - which conjured the predictable response, but he settled instantly when I cuddled him. He continues to be a very large boy - 6.160kg, 62cm long, and a massive head! Although he continues to feed 2 - 3 hourly during the day, he is now sleeping through the night....well his last feed is at 6:00pm, and he then sleeps through to 5:00am, or so. He's been sleeping in this pattern for about 8 days now, so I am confident enough to say that it looks like its here to stay! *fingers crossed* Sadly, I am now 2 weeks away from returning to work.....argh!.....but my DH is the stay at home parent, and does a WONDERFUL job, so Reuben will be in very skilled hands, but it doesn't stop me from feeling seriously distressed about seperation from my baby!

kelly: it could be caus ur changing him over to formula, what type is he on? jade got refluxy when i started her on s26, shes on nan pro gold now and no refluxy chucks and hardly any wind problems. altho ppl say all formulas are basically the same i have heard s26 can cause probs in babies and alot of ppl suggested the nan pro gold to me and it works well.
Kelly - what formula do you have him on at the moment? It might just be the formula thats making him ore chucky than normal. Its worth talking to the MCHN or GP as it can be other things but its possible that changing formula to a HA or AR formula could help
Tatt and Ray I have him on nan gold, the paediatrician recommended that one so we've been using it.. I'll speak to the nurse and see what she thinks. It settled down a little bit yesterday but he still chucks with every feed... and he always seems to miss the cloth I have over my shoulder and cover my clothes!! Cheeky boy.

DS1 was on nan HA gold from 5ish months.
How much is he chucking, and does he get upset? Oscar is on breastmilk and he chucks at or aftera lot of feeds, his is mainly due to him guzzling so much though, and hes a bt of a happy chucker so he doesnt get upset at all.
He asleep at the moment..must be exhauseted, he never ever goes to sleep at this time of night. SO Im thinking we will get 20 mins, 40 tops and them hopefully he'll have a nice feed and go down for the night.
Im sad though becuase I finally managed ot express on friday, and was warming it up to give to him, and in the whole 5 minutes that took, Oscar fell asleep in my arms. So there went a wasted bottle of EBM *sigh*
Rayray - I hate wasted EBM too - its like liquid gold! When I had my DD, I had a good stock of EBM frozen, and a friend was in a fix with some urgent trip away for 24 hours, and she spilled a whole lot of her EBM when defrosting it. She was absolutely beside herself, so I gave her some of mine - she just burst into tears......I think many of us understand the value of EBM!
After his last feed for the night, I was about to put him in his cot, and he started to gag - after which he had the BIGGEST spew, like a fountain.....it was so distressing! (If you have ever had a child/baby with Rotavirus - that was what it was like)..... I rushed him out to the lounge, and my DH urged me to not interfer with him too much & wake him up to clean him......but despite him still being asleep, I couldn't leave the poor baby like that. Although I was the one mostly covered in vomit, he had a fair bit around the sleeves and neckline of his nighty, as well as his wrap. Fortunately I managed to strip him, wipe him down, dress him in clean clothes and swaddle him in a clean wrap - then picked him up and he fell asleep instantly.
I am now sitting by the video monitor and jumping at every movement and snuffle. I am hoping that he's fine, and there will be no further issues, but I do overly worry about my kids. Fortunately my DH balances me out by telling me that I am over-reacting and jumping to seriously premature conclusions.......so I just worry more quietly! lol!
