Ok ladies thanx for all thinking of us, it has been a big couple of weeks, but we are finally seeing sum progress.
So yes we went to hospital and he had blood tests/poo tests/barium swallow - we saw a dietician and a speech pathologist.
The nurses were meant to watch us feed but do you think one did, nope!!! Useless useless useless, but they were nice guess that makes up for it!
So anyway all test results came back that he is really healthy which is the main thing. The barium swallow showed how bad his reflux is which we knew!
So the dietician gave us polyjoule (like a glucose) to put in his bottles to increase his calorie intake and we have to continue with 1 1/4 strength formula.
I have always used slow flow teats in hope that he wouldn't get it too fast and would keep some down, but appears he has adapted himself in such a way that he sucks so so fast and gets alot of wind and that is why he always thought he was full. This is the conclusion of the speech pathologist, which she is kinda right but he still refuses his feeds at times even on the medium flow teats, and been trying a couple of different brands to date also.
But all in all he has been much better still only averaging 700mls a day, somedays he will get up to 760ml and other days he is more around the 600mls per day. He is not as angry with the bottle so guess the teats are to thank for that, so this is huge progress.
Saw the paed today and he just gathers that his problem is that he is still associating his reflux pain to feeding and that medicine way back when (that they mixed up wrong - being white in colour - he has a long memory), did not help. This is when Wade and I noticed all our problems started. Reflux babies are fussy feeders but he is extreme and trying to feed him is just so stressful. But again he is much much better and I am so thankful!
On a really good note he gained 300g in a week (so now weights 5.86kgs), unheard of, a new world record for our boy! So everything we are doing is heading in the right direction. So the paed finally agrees with me that (even thou I am happy he did all the tests just to make sure), that he is not fussed on milk (too smart to remember about that medicine all that time ago), is way too active, throws up heaps and is only drinking just enough to keep him going and not gain any excess weight. I told him all this, lol, but no I am still happy he did the tests. He has now gone back to the 5th percentile and as long as he stays there the doctor is happy.
It was always confusing for me that he was doing so well, was really content and energetic with everything that was going on, but we just have to accept it.
The doctor has finally also given me some meds to stop him throwing up sooo much, finally!!!! As he throws up soooo much I am sure he is just sick of throwing up also.
So all is well here, still a fussy feeder but no way near as bad.
Started him on fair dinkim solids on Monday. Started him on farex a mth ago but he wasn't real interested. Just don't tell my sister the dietician ok, she will give me the big lecture re: allergies and you shouldn't start before 6mths, but she is not a mother and I know what my son needs, I can see a big improvement in him since we started. I have started on pumpkin and sweet potato and apple for desert. Loves apple, so much but not real fussed on the other, been tricking him and putting a little apple in with pumpkin and sweet potato, don't know if I should but hey he eats it. I think the big mistake was when wade's sister gave him apple cause she had made sum first and now he has a sweet tooth, bugger!!!!! We were just happy to get something down at the time, grrr..... if only I had of thought in advance. Oh well!
Developmentally he is rolling from belly to back, more through pure determination as he always hated his tummy so much. I really haven't pushed the tummy time thing as he always screamed! So there you go, I have one determined kid, within 10 seconds he is over. And the other night when from back to belly by accident and straight back again, cheeky little devil.
Also the paed told me today when he saw lachie holding his feet in his hands and pulling them up towards his mouth that that was a 6 month development stage, so he is doing really well, but he has been doing that since he was 4 mths old. He can kind of sit up hunched right forward. Interacting with his toys so much better, more interest and passing from one hand to the other and if he sees one he wants he does what he can to get it on the floor.
So finally one happy mumma here, although he is sleeping terrible at night at the moment, gosh I don't know how you do it Cosmic, boy last night was the worst night we have had with him in soooo long, I could hardly function today. We visited Tania and Jayden today that was really nice and got sum really cool pictures.
Ok better get off to bed I guess, hope everyone is well, I read all the posts last night and then run out of time to post myself.
Will try to keep up from now on.
Oh and before I forget Kim, it would be interesting to see who is more active Darcy or Lachlan, boy I hate to think what he will be like when he is moving around, gosh am I going to loose sum weight! I think I am tired now, boy I am in for a rude shock. I just have fear that he will be running around won't have time to eat and I will be cutting things up in small pieces and shuving bits in his mouth as he runs past - GAWD I HOPE NOT!!!!! Hope things are ok with you and your scan results come back all good.
