Lis-Your milk won't run out, but it is a very time consuming process. If you're adamant to give her breastmilk the I say try and persevere with booby feeding. Danni, on the other hand, would disagree, as she has a huge supply and only takes a few minutes to express enough for one feed. Everyone is different though, and I'm weak and ended up bottle feeding. You can go on maxalon or motilium for supply issues also.

Belly belly is so awesome....thank you all for your support and Danni for the call. Mum came over and helped me today too- thank goodness and again a few pointers should help over the next few days.
Ash -you are not weak - you are doing the best for your little man and by the sound of it he is absolutely thriving so dont be down on yourself hun. Good luck with the check up too = fingers crossed its not reflux and just wind babe
lis - Ive got no advice really although your milk shouldnt run out if you are regularly expressing though I wouldnt think... i know the stress is awful too but hang in there and good luck with it the expressing.
Kelly - poor little Luke - hope your day was ok and he was fine at your work - I cant wait to go to my school and show her off - am going to ask about driving at my appointment next week - i dont think i will last another 3 weeks housebound i will go nuts. Hope his snuffles clear up soon.
Sarah - how did your appointment go today babe??? Hope all went well.
To everyone else - big thanks again for your support and sorry for the slack personals. As I said mum helped heaps today and my sister is coming to see me tomorrow so that will be good. God these ups and downs make me feel like I really am nuts because Im in a totally different head space to this morning right now - like i could deal with anything....stupid hormones.:cryinglaugh:
Anyway gorgeous mums and bubs - big hugs - talk soon.
-
Ash hun you are certainly not weak and by the sounds of it Blake is thriving! I rang the hospital and booked into bf clinic tomorrow afternoon. I really hope they can help as I want to keep bf but the constant expressing is just getting too much.
Tan glad you are feeling better, stoopid stoopid hormones hey. Yay for mums, mine has been a godsend!
Ok gotta go arm is getting sore. I'm typing one handed as little miss here screams when I put her down today.
-
Oh guys, it's my turn to have a whinge!! I'm having a really terrible start to the morning and it's all just getting far too much. I've been sooo good up until this morning and now I can hardly stop crying. I woke up at 3am with an INCREDIBLY sore boob. The bloody right one that I've been having all the nipple problems with is now absolutely killing me. It's the actual boob now and I'm thinking that I have a blocked duct or even mastiatis (sp?). Its sooo painful and I have no idea what to do. I'll have to give the health clinic nurse a call because I just can't handle it. To make it worse, right when I was trying to express some milk from that boob, to ease the pain a little, Luke did a MASSIVE power spew all over his bassinette (which we borrowed from a friend) and all over himself. I just sat there crying and didn't even know where to start. Eventually when I composed myself, I bathed him and tried to clean up the spew as much as possible. Thank god Mum is coming over today. But just bathing Luke made my boob even worse, it just kills when I move my arm - how am I going to get through this.
Plus, DH is having issues at work - their company was bought out and the new owners have offered him a really crap salary - worse than he's on now, for a much higher role. So he's really down about that and feels like he's letting us down (now that we don't have my salary too). So, I can't even talk to him about my crappy day coz that will just make everything worse, I have to try and be strong for him right now and it's so hard.
Damn it, Luke's crying again - I have to go. Will be back later.

Oh Kelly - you poor thing - BIG  to you hun. I would get your mum to take you to the GP so you can get something prescribed... my sister had mastitis and she was given an injection that eased her pain almost immediately. Good luck and I hope your mum arrives soon. xox
-
oh kelly, you need to get to the gp straight away, If it is mastitis you need antibiotics asap!!
Mason has reflux im sure of it. the poor baby has been choking all morning. I am beside myself. I have to wait another hour before the doctor will see him. i pray he can give him something to help. I feel so helpless watching him scream, gag, choke, spew etc :(
-
Danni - big hugs to you both too, you poor thing.. must be awful - heres hoping the next hour flies by for you..xox:hug:
-
Tan - you are absolutely normal. My gauge of whether or not I'm having a good day is (A) did I have a shower, (B) did I pull up the doona on the bed and (C) did I get through the day without bawling at some point. I've had some moments with my DH too that have left me both angry and devastated at my uselessness as a mother. I'm sure both your DH and mine were just trying to be supportive but they're not helpful when what we need is their unconditional support and encouragement. I'm sure you're an amazing mother and your Izzy loves wouldn't trade her mummy for anyone. Maybe Izzy is having a growth spurt? My Izzy did at about 3.5 weeks and it was hell - no day time sleep at all for her, and feeds 1.5 to 2 hours that lasted up to 40 minutes. Hang in there - it doesn't last forever.
Kelly - you poor love. I agree with the others - you need to get to your gp to get it checked out asap. If your mum can't make it for whatever reason, please call me and I'll take you. I can leave Izzy home with her daddy and Luke can use her baby seat.
Danni - I hope your doctor can give you something to help Mason. Iz had the worst reflux ever yesterday so I feel for you and him. Poor little pumpkin.
Sarah - how did your appointment go? Not as important, but I hope your shopping trip was successful too.
Lis - I don't have attachment problems but I do have problems with Izzy writhing around and screaming sometimes during feeding when she gets reflux while actually feeding. Just expressing won't dry your milk up - great idea so you can keep persevering with BF if that's what you choose. Have you tried to feed Elena "up hill"? This was suggested to me for Izzy to try to reduce reflux and colic. Basically, prop Elena up so she is higher than your breast and lean back a bit - she has to put more effort into sucking but it goes down more slowly so less reflux and wind issues. HTH.
Expressing over the last couple of days has gone quite well. Couple of questions for you mummies that are expressing though - how much do you get each time and what temperature do you then feed the EBM at, ie room temperature, rest in boiling water to heat? I feed her and then express and get anywhere from 30ml to 80 mls each time. Is that normal?
Hi to all the other mummies - sorry I couldn't do more personals but there are so many of us and Izzy is waking up.
-
lulu: youre doing well to get that much after afeed. Good on you :) Depending on how soon you are going to use the milk is how you should store it.
I put mine in the fridge as I have a few days supply to use first. Then I bring it out an hour or so b4 the feed is due, and then warm it in some water till the chill has gone
otherwise you can keep it at room temperature for up to 8 hours.
hope that helps :)
-
Thanks so much guys, especially Lulu for the offer to take me to the GP, luckily Mum arrived pretty quickly and got me into our doctor as an emergency patient!!!
So I've been to the GP and have antibiotics as it's definitely mastiatis - must go, will bbl.

Thanks Danni. At this point I've just filled a bottle and a half and they're in the fridge. DH is going to give her her first EBM feed tonight so we can see how much she needs. Then I'll start getting a day's feed and freeze whatever is left - hopefully!
-
glad you got onto it asap kelly  hope it clears up soon
my bub has reflux and has to take some medicine :(
lulu: she will take approx 120ml...anywhere between 100-150 :)
-
Hey mums!
Kelly I hope your mastitis is clearing up, you poor thing. Getting mastitis is my worst fear lol as I've heard that it is so painful. Take it easy hun.
Danni I'm sorry that Mason has reflux, poor little guy. I hope the medicine helps him. Its so common in little ones and hopefully he grows out of it soon.
Lulu thanks for the advice, I'll try feeding 'uphill' and see how that goes. Great that you are getting that much milk after feeding. I can get anywhere between 120-160ml without feeding her first and if I do feed first then I get 50-90ml usually. I've been storing in the fridge and then heating in boiling water. Elena is nearly 3.5 weeks old and will take anywhere between 100-140ml of EBM. I find that she tends to want 100ml during the day but will take more in the evening. HTH and good luck with expressing.
Sorry don't have time to do personals for everyone but hope you are all well and that all the bubs are behaving themselves. Here's hoping we all get some rest tonight!

Well Juz has just gone to the pub with the boys, what a day! The funeral was very sad, it is so unfortunate that someone so young has to be taken from this world leaving behind a beautiful young wife and baby daughter. With the amount of people that were at the service it was not hard to see that this was a man who everybody loved. I met the guy twice and in that time I knew him I can see why. It just goes to show that you never know when your time is up and to treasure every moment you do have.
We had the appt with the specialist and some other guy called us in, I think they were busy and just wanting to hurry through everyone. The guy told us that Noah does not have clubfoot, his foot will straighten up by 6-8 weeks and if he did have clubfoot that he is too young for treatment but to come back in one week anyway WTF??? It took us 4 1/2 hours to get there and even longer to get back!! This guy better be right or I am going to kick his backside, what is the point in going back next week if we don't need him? To be honest though, I will be stoked if Noah doesn't need treatment but I want to hear it from the specialist himself.
In other news, from 3 feeds, I expressed 90mls!! I put Noah on one boob and express the other at the same time. Not so exciting now that I find out you need 150mls for a feed.
I was going to attempt personals but today has been a mega drain so I will give it a miss tonight and try over the weekend. I should try to get to sleep as well seeing as it is 12:30am. Have a fantastic weekend mummies!!! Long weekend for some!!!
-
lis: masom is the opposite...he drinks more during the day and less at night hehe
sarah: was so nice to neet you guys!! hope to do it again soon :)
and noah and mason are long lost brothers!! they chatted non stop hehe :D
-
Yeah it was great to meet you too Danni!! They really are chatty aren't they? As soon as I am allowed to drive again I will have to get my P's so I can come down on my own. Not sure how you drive with a baby though  I would stop every 2 minutes to see if he was breathing
Does everyone else find themselves being super over protective of their little ones? I let someone else have a hold of Noah and I freak out inside and can't stop watching him. Not sure if I am being a freak about it or if this is normal behavior
-
oh Kel you poor love. I hope the antibiotics kick in fast and your mastitis disappears very very quickly.
Sarah - I'm the same. I'm fine if my mum has Izzy but if its anyone else I want to grab her back straight away! We're supposed to be going to a friend's 40th in a couple of weeks and I just don't think I'm happy leaving her, unless its with my mum and she lives 160kms away. Very unfair cos DH's mum is absolutely gorgeous and managed to raise 4 kids herself, but I don't think new mums get to be rational. And that is hopefully fantastic news about Noah's little foot. So much better if it will fix itself than for the poor little guy to have to go through any treatment procedure.
Lis - how did you go with the uphill feeding? Hope it helps.
Danni - where are you guys staying when you're in Perth? We need to organise some sort of catch up. I'm happy to have you and Kelly over to my house if you like, depending on where you're staying. If its too far then I can come to you.
Tan - how are you going sweetie? Feeling a bit happier and getting a bit more sleep or is that naughty Izzy of yours still having short feed stretches?
So, the expressing saga continues . . . We tried to give Izzy her first EBM bottle last night and it was a disaster. She kept pushing the teat out and ended up screaming her lungs out until she got the real thing. I've got two different sized Avent teats but she didn't like either of them. What brands are all of you using for your bottles? I only want to have EBM a a backup if I'm out or so DH can give her a feed so there's no urgency yet, but to be honest the thought of never being able to leave her for longer than a feed break is very, very depressing.
-
sarah: i am the same. I freak out and want to grab him back too. Although yeah, im happy for my mum to hold him and thats it!
i find it really hard to drive alone cos I cant see Mason and sometimes I cant hear him. I am going to buy one of those mirrors to put on the carseat so you can see them through the rear vision mirror.
I spoke to dale and he said he is happy to come to horsham for a weekend! yay i love short trips.
Lulu: i responded in your other thread. Dont worry babe, Izzy will learn. Its just that for 4 weeks she has had nothing but your nipple and it is a bit confusing for her. But she will adapt. Mason has no problem switching between nipple and teat now.
We will be staying in Leeming and I am organising a small BB meet at Carousel in Cannington. Is that near you or Kelly?
