Well Little K is 2 weeks old now!! eeeeek!! Seems to be going by so quickly! All is going fairly well.
nickle - i have the same issue also but at more acceptable hours.. usually between 6 and 10 in the morning he wont sleep, very alert and loves to look around.
Does anyone else have more milk production in one boob than the other?? My right boob becomes so full and engorged while my left doesnt. It still has milk but nowhere near as much! The size difference really bothers me. My mum had the same issue when she breastfed too. The nurse said that its quite common and as long as it doesnt affect how much bubs get than it should be fine.
The weather has been really hot and muggy here lately, and bubs seems to be a fairly hot and sweaty baby. lives in singlet and nappy at the moment, even at night. Loves his baths too!!
Hello purplepixie! don't worry about asking questions! thats what we are all here for!!!!! as for ur question on how are we keeping bub cool, well Miss Em is spending alot of time in nappy and singlet, and loves having some nakey time!
Well for us our witching hours is between 1800-2400 and it drives me nuts! its a loooooong time of alertness and cluster feeding! and not the best time of night to be going through it!
Also today is my 1st whole day alone with my 2 girls! so far so good! i do miss DH already tho!
Breastfeeding is surprisingly going well - but does anyone else feel like a cow? are does anyone else get a little frustrated with having to get your BB's out constantly? sometimes im so tempted to switch over to formula also! but i guess thats just the sleep deprived me talking! i would really like to make it to the 6wk mark and prove my OB wrong at my check up!
Question with expressing -now i seem to have alot of milk as DD is putting on heaps of weight and sometimes chokes on it all when drinking! however when i express it takes ages (manual expressing) so my question is.... is it okay to express some, put it in the fridge, express more to the previous amount later than freeze it?
Eza I have exactly the same issue - rightie is embarrassingly prolific, leftie is a lagger. I spoke to a nurse at the community centre today who seemed to think the same way as your nurse - not a problem as long as bub is well-fed. She suggested feeding off the less-productive breast first for a while to boost supply, so that's the plan for now. This is probably good as it gives right boob time to leak a little - Amelia has a bit of trouble attaching when it's over-full and leaky.
HJ I occasionally look up at DH and dare him to call me Daisy... moo! I've had the "hang it all and hand me the bottle" moments too, usually late at night when I'm tired and everything hurts. I do find it pretty convenient though - Amelia tends to yell and yell from the time she wakes up til the time she latches - the times she has had EBM or formula (we were comp feeding to begin with as my milk took ages to come in) she has become quite hysterical whilst waiting for the bottle to warm up so bf soothes her much more quickly.
I'm trying to get my head around bf in public though. I feed barechested at home so am used to having nothing in the way. Now that we're starting to get out a bit more I'm struggling to feed around a shirt, muslin wrap etc. I haven't been fitted for a maternity bra yet as I am living in the nursing singlets (these things rock!!) and the couple of bf shirts I bought from Target are oddly shaped in terms of the cups/openings and not very comfortable... any suggestions for good styles to wear? Preferably cheap
I'm not sure about the expressing question - I use an electric pump (which really does add to the whole dairy cow experience!!) so it's quick and the EBM goes straight into the fridge or freezer depending on need. In hospital the nurses would just add the tiny bits of milk I was expressing to the one storage container as they came along, so I assume it's okay to do that. I'd just transfer it as quickly as possible to maintain a clean container?
DD has been living in a singlet and nappy too. She still freaks out a little bit about bath time (although she is improving) so the cooling effect of the bath is counteracted by the hysteria.
She is very loud, and has been since birth... Can't quite believe us two calm, quiet, homebodies have ended up with such a noisy drama queen of a daughter. Love her to bits though - gee she's cute

Miss P seems to be getting the hang of day vs. night - this makes me VERY happy! She wakes for a BF at around 2am most nights and then goes back to sleep until somewhere between 6 and 8am. We are BF and comp feeding with formula or EBM as I have had two breast reduction surgeries and I don't have a great enough supply for Miss P. I am taking motilium to boost my supply and I definitely have more milk than I had with my last bub. Miss P loves a BF and I am hoping that we can continue to have a BF relationship... how long it lasts depends entirely on Miss P! My DD1 was a small baby and poor feeder (and I had no idea what I was doing!) and DS weaned at 3 months when I stopped producing any milk at all. Miss P is an amazing feeder and has no problems feeding from both breast and bottle. She has a definite preference for the breast - I have tasted formula and I am not surprised!
I have a Medela Swing electric pump and i love it! Much better than the manual pump I used last time.
purplepixie, I will BF Miss P just about anywhere. I do like to be discreet and am not one for flashing my boob around! I have found that a singlet top in a stretchy fabric can be pulled down under my boob, then a loose style t-shirt over the top is pulled up (you can use the loose t-shirt to cover your boob/bub's head while attaching and no one sees anything). Target has good long line singlets with lots of stretch and I have some good loose t's from Sussan's. Don't know if that makes sense?? It works for us, but I have found it much easier this time than with DS as Miss P will latch on to a nipple which is waved in her general direction without any assistance so there is no stuffing about in public trying to attach!
Kids have been out swimming with DH but have just come inside. Better go and shower them!

Hi girls. I hope it is ok if I hang out in here with you guys. Campbell was due in this group! I am also popping into his actual birth group but I know most of you guys and would like to keep chatting.
HJ - I always use a new container for each lot of expressed milk but I don't think it would matter if you combined providing it is just milk from the same day and you freeze it that day also. The more times you open the container it is stored in the more chance you have of introducing nasties to it. If you are only expressing small amounts, why don't you try freezing it in ice cube trays (the covered ones would be best). That way you are not wasting a big container for a small amount if milk and then you can just defrost as many cubes as required!
I also have a medela swing and it is still going strong after exclusively expressing for Caitlin and now for Campbell.
Nickle thanks for the info on the motilium dosage. I have increased what I am taking and have now seen an increase in supply.
Campbell had his 6 week check up with his paed last week and is now 3.7kg a 1200g increase from birth which is great. We are now putting a thickener into his bottles to try and reduce his spewing (he had been spewing for 4 hrs between feeds) and now he barely brings anything up which is great. We have had the odd 6 hour stint between feeds over night but for the most part he is only making it 4 hrly.

so her 4wk check up, which was done today at 3wks 5days her stats now are
Births - Weight - 3800grams ------- Now - 4640grams
Length - 51cm ------------ Now - 57.3cm
Head - 34cm ------------- Now - 37.5cm

Sorry, typing one handed so will make it quick... just wanted to say hi!! We're doing ok but Campbell is showing all the classic signs of reflux.. so hasn't been much fun. Lots of spew and a very unsettled bub at times! He's not too bad though and had a great sleep last night.. he went about 5 hours straight (which is great for us -LOL)!!! After that it was back to 3 hourly though! He's got the dummy now too.. which is helping HEAPS!!! And the b/f is going so much better for me this time than last time... I've got heaps of milk though and Campbell has been putting on 800gm a week!!! Crazy.. he's so big already!! Anyway this one handed typing is hard work....
