hi girls, sorry i haven't been around.. don't know where all my times goes!
ray, sorry to hear about milo! did you or neil take him to the hospital today? gosh i remember when ethan had gastro.. it was the worst! just when you feel like they're getting better, they throw up again! ethan had it for over a week but he eventually got over it. does milo drink the pedialyte liquid? i remember someone told me as long as they're getting some form of liquid, it's good enough to get them through it. good luck with that!
an update on ethan... he still has no teeth! hehe.. he had his early childhood check-up on friday afternoon and everything seems perfect except for his lack of teeth. i'm not overly concerned as i know some babies can take up to 18 months to sprout. but on the other hand... ethan can walk now!! he's taken about 7 or 8 steps now and he loves it! always up on his feet when he gets the chance and is more willing to let go of the furniture and go for a wander. so i've packed the walker away and i'm going to get one of those things that he can hold onto and roll across the floor. it's all going so quickly.. mum is starting to pester me about ttc number 2!
as for talking and eating... a lot of loud da da daaa's and ba ba baaa's but no ma's :p no problems with his eating too. he has 3 solids and 4 bottles a day now and he's a teeny bit under weight for his height. upping him up to 4 solids seems like so much! do you think i should? he has such a fat round tummy after each meal..
better stop here.. i've written an essay!
-
He seems a lot better, no vomiting so far today, and he has been tolerating the pedialyte and some formula (Neil gave him 40mls a couple of times)
I am going to try him with 60ml when he wakes up, and see how we go.
The doctor Neil took him to today said if he goes 5 hours an no vomiting, to feed him as normal and see if he takes it, and that if he vomits it all back up, even if it stays down for 5 minutes its good?! I'd have thought a little bit thats stays down is better then a lot thats brought up??
-
i'd have to agree with you on that one. one thing my doc suggested after ethan seemed to be on the mend.. was half strength formula. something about full strength formula being too thick and harder to take? but i guess doctors know what they're talking about though.. hope milo feels better tomorrow!

Hey - we're off the front page again ... is anyone out there thinking about their babies first birthday ?
For Cait's first birthday we had about 50 family and friends for a BBQ lunch and some family stayed and stayed for dinner too. I said I'd never have another party that size again. I hardly saw Cait all day ... I'm aiming for something more manageable this time.
Alex's birthday falls on a Wednesday this year - the weekend before this there is a kinda
trivia night on the saturday and full dress rehersals for Caits dancing on the saturday and sunday mornings. The weekend after, dancing rehersal all Saturday morning and concert on Sunday afternoon. I freak out a bit when I have too many things on, but I'm thinking either the Sunday before or the Saturday after, a late afternoon start for a BBQ dinner. Nick is not fussed what we do !
Then two weeks after that is Caits 5th birthday and then three weeks more and its Christmas - and it's our turn to host - 10 adults and 7 kids.
I've had a bit of the flu this week, bed ridden for two days. Alex is a bit grumpy at the moment, he still has no teeth but his gums are really bumpy, it's like all 20 are going to pop thru at once. He just wants loves which would be fine if I was not full of snot and germs :-(
-
My baby's 1st birthday is 1 few days b4 my mum's 50th so we are wanting to have a big party. Not very good at these thing though.
Our baby is now standing for a while - and loves getting around. He loves to eat too. I am sure he is going through a growth spurt.
-
heya girls.. barb, i am definitely starting to think of birthday options! ethan's birthday is on the 2nd so i better get a move on or else it'll just be a family gathering at home. our family has already had 2 costume parties this year so i don't want to do that again... my SIL has suggested a pool party.. what do you guys think of that? problem is no one has a pool and it looks like we're gonna have to get inflatables or hold the whole thing at the local swimming pool. have any of you taken your babies swimming since they were born?
any other birthday ideas? i found 2 threads on it here and here.
ethan is full on walking now and LOVES it. he's some how learnt to pry open doors and scramble out before we get the chance to yell "ethannn!" i'm really happy that he can walk so early but it sure it a challenge keeping up with him all the time.. hehe..
-
Milos not walking, but crawling like mad. he thinks its a race, and a big game to see if he can beat mummy and daddy to whatever it is he knows he can't play with! :)
You should see the cheeky looks we get when he turns around to make sure he's being watched!
First birthday party.. will be the weekend following Milo's birthday which I think is November 25th/26th.
I have a huge family, and will have to invite all of them or risk people getting offended.
So thats about 70 people just with my family.
Neil has about 15 family, so thats 85 -- an without any of our friends!
So whaever we end up having it will be huge. I am so not a party person,
but its Milo's first birthday so we'll be doing something.
I might keep myself busy making the cake, and hope the party organises itself, In our family, it usually does.
-
Oh my walking !!! I hope my baby doesn't walk for a month or two at least. He crawls so fast I am often yelling out for him!
-
bumping us up again :)
Milo has gone to the royal melbourne show with Neil today, and mum and MIL.
I didn't really think he should go, as he's too young to really get anything out of it, but Neil reckons he loved it and was waving at the cows!
Oh yeah, he started waving last week. Its really cute :)
-
Was it busy at the Show? I heard it was so packed you can't get through. My mum went...by herself!...on Staurday it was hard to move. My mil was going to go with the big kids but instead went to a kids rock concert.
-
I didn't go, but Neil said they sat in traffic for an hour when they got to flemington, and once they got there it was a nightmare trying to get around with a pram.
Actually he was really disappointed overall. Milo was exhausted when they finally got home, but at least he like the animals.
They must've been carrying him around at somet point, because mum said he kept reaching out and touching people as they walked past -- making friends? :) A very social baby - he must take after Neil!
They had lunch at the CWA, milo had the vegies, and the women kept commenting on how lovely it was to see young parents feeding their kids vegetables and not chips and coke....would anyone seriously give a 10 month old coke?
-
It is a worry seeing what ppl give their babies. We don't buy fizzy for our kids at all but I have seen babies with coke in their bottles. Can't be good./
My Nan wanted to take the kids to the Show but too expensive so she took them to see a rock show for kids! The Boogie Woogies in Barkly Square. My girl loved it and she got autographs. She wont stop talking about it!
Meanwhile my baby has something strange going on on his tongue and near his mouth. The look like pimples. Not sure what it is. Hoping it clears up.
-
I haven't been to the royal show for years and neither Nick nor I are interested in going. Until Cait starts asking to go, I'm going to avoid it ! We might try something smaller and local, maybe the Lilydale or Dandenong ones. My MIL and SIL and her four kids went on Monday ... I can't imagine what they spent.
MIL bought Cait a my little pony showbag and said that rides were from $5-$15 !
Alex is 10.5 months and finally got his first tooth ! A tiny solitary little bud. He was cranky for a day or so, but he's happy now. He doesn't crawl properly yet - he rolls and mooches along and goes backwards in a caterpillar style. He loves to stand up but I can't imagine him walking on his chubby jelly legs.
-
*bump* us up again ... I've got half the invites out for Alex's birthday next month. He crawls a lot better now, slowly, but he's on his knees at least. It's hard work on them, if he's in shorts he gets red knees and if he's in pants he usually drags himself out of them. And his second tooth appeared today ! Two wittle buds on the bottom row at the front. Preceeded by three days of *shocking* poos and grumpyness.
Hope everyone is good,
-
Oh no!
My baby has jst got over much crankiness. He has 6 teeth.
He is standing a lot now and he sort of wants to walk but is a lil weary.
I am in no hurry.
-
Milo gets up on his knees and bounces up and down with his arms oustretched!
And now he has started to crawl/"elephant walk" on hishands and feet(rather than knees)
Not much other news over here. Still woring on birthday invitations. Every time I design one DH edits it into something I don't like. oh well.
-
Only 3 weeks til my vbub turns one.
We had first birthday for our older 2 but this year we are just going to have him named then just a family get together. Don't need the stress atm!
-
Hi Ladies
I just wanted to pop in and see what your bubs were up to. I have an Oct baby (only just 31st Oct) and Jordan is a little behind all the other Oct bubs in the movement area. He still isnt crawling properly.
Seeing as most of them are born early Oct I thought he might be closer in age to your bubs, if born early Nov.
Seems as though lots of bubs in here are moving about. I guess Jordan is a little lazy (gets that off mum and dad hehehe)
Good to see you are all well, hope the bday plans are going well, not to long now!
-
Hi Tracey!
Milo was a bit slower than most of the bubs his age too, with the sitting/crawling/standing stuff. I think its cos he is so much bigger than a lot of the other kids his age, cos the other developmental stuff is on track/ahead.
October 31st is a great day to be born. I was secretly hoping Milo would be early and come then, but he was 10 days overdue instead :D

Hi Everyone,
I would love to join this group. My DD Sara was born Nov 2005. Have read a bit of the above conversations and think it would be great to have a group to exchange notes etc.
-
Hello BezK!
What is your bub up to now?
It is alil quiet in this thread but i usually pop by to talk about my bub!
He is standing more now. He is turning one in a lil over a w.
-
Hi Bek and welcome!
Milo has discovered that if he pulls up to stand, he can sit down, and he thinks he's so fantastic when he does it.
So now I hold his hands and we play stand-up, sit down! He giggles so much its really funny :)
Had a message from DH when I got to work this morning, it was photo day at creche and we forgot, apparently he thinks Milo is dressed like a dero *LOL* He rang the creche to tell them to change him to his spare clothes, but they said its mainly head shots so he will be fine..
-
Hi thanks for the welcome,
Gobblygook, my DD Sara starting walking 3 weeks ago and with the walking came an attitude change!!!!! She is very determinded to what she wants to do. Before walking she was a very easy bub, easy to put to bed and easy to feed. But I think she is getting a mind of her own she is into every thing.
I am starting to take her off formula and introduce milk for day time feeds. I am giving her 1/2 and 1/2 formula milk (Lactose Free). We are also using sippy cups now for these feeds. She seems to be ok except her poos are horrible!! Another lady at BB said that this is normal.
I am finding that Sara is changin so much very quickly and it will be great to have some points of reference from all you lovely mummies.
-
My bub seems to be losing his baby - ness!
He is so cheeky!
-
I know what you mean about losing the baby-ness. I can barely remember Sara as nb tiny and helpless.
-
My bub still cries like he is a newb tho! He is my cranky boy.
-
omg girls i feel like i've missed out on so much with your bubs.. and welcome to the thread tracey and bekz! at the same time.. a lot has been happening with ethan as well. he turns 1 next week and his birthday party plans have come to a halt as my FIL went into hospital yesterday. we might have to cancel the whole thing as it doesn't feel right to be celebrating when he's not able to attend.
anyway on a different topic, after heaps of worrying (caused by MIL), ethan's teeth finally came through at 10.5 months (like alex, barb!) i was so excited and he seemed to have coped really well cause i didn't notice he was teething til they actually poked through his gums. he's now got the bottom 2 and the top 2.. and there's a huge gap between the top ones!
ethan's also running now! so bekz and gg, i know exactly what you mean when you say they're not a babies anymore. he's becoming such a defined little person now with his personality really shining through. he's discovered that when he cries really, really loud, that usually gets everyone attention so each one of his little tantrums cause a big cry.
things are really good now except the constant running after him as he's into cupboards and drawers now.. and the feeding! he's so used to pureed and mushed foods that when i try to go a little lumpier, he chokes and spits it all back out. i know it has to be a gradual thing but he's really stubborn about it. the only time he'll eat normal foods is when he wants the food we eat at meal times. but when it comes to his own meal time, only mush will do!
a couple questions before i go... have any of you girls thought about changing bub over to cows milk yet? they say 12 months is the point of change but is it really necessary? also has anyone thought about toilet training? ethan's poos are quite regular so i'd be crazy not to start now... but where do i begin?
i can't believe they're almost 1 already... didn't this year just go by in such a crazy, mad, hectic miraculous blur?? hehe..
-
Milk- Bub is only on the breast. He has had milk in cooking though. He probably needs more dairy.
Toilet training- I have put bub on the toilet a few times. Ideally he would be nappy free but that needs much more than I have.
-
Hi Dana,
It sounds like are bubs are all very busy little beans hey!!
Milk - I started Sara on milk with breakfast and in cooking at 11months. Then last week I started putting milk in her day time bottles 1/2 milk and 1/2 formula. Her poos are a bit on the loose side, but I heard that this is normal. I decided to give her milk now because she is not fussed on bottles through the day and she is a very good eater. So in her diet she is getting a huge variety of food anyway. When she turns 1 yo I am going to give her all milk drinks during the day. I will continue formula until this tin is finished.
You can refer to the thread on Feeding Babies and also there is a thread on toilet training as well.
My friend had 2 boys who were fully toilet trained by 18mnths and she suggested to use summer time as on opportunity to put bub in trainer pants and let them feel themselves wetting their pants. This apparently helps them to associate the need to go to the toilet. She also suggested to to this outside with a potty close by.
All the best for your family.
I am going to try this but I am not going to push this issue, I also think a bub has to be mentally ready to this. I have had friends worrying themselves sick because their 2year olds weren't toilet trained and then all of a sudden it happend in one week (when the child was ready).
-
Hi - I started mixing Alex's bottles when he was about 11 months - 3/4 formula to 1/4 milk to start with. I think he is fine with it and he has closer to four bottles and a half a spilt cup now, rather than three bottles. And he eats EVERYTHING. Roasts, chicken schnitzel, mince and most vegies, except beans.
About the potty - I started Cait on it when she could crawl and sit properly, just so she would not be scared of it later on. I tried to train seriously when she was two but she didn't want to know about it. About three months later she wanted to do it and was day trained in a week. Must dig it out of the garage ...
I guess they have to feel uncomfortable when they're wet to know what is going on, if they don't mind getting around with wet pants then I wouldn't think they were ready for training. If you listen to my mother, we were all out of nappies by 10 months !
-
Milo doesn't like chewing, he tries to swallow everything whole, even sandwiches and toast  but we're still trying.
he was OK with eggs, we only just got around to trying those last month cos MCHN said something about him having to have had whole egg 12 months as they need to know of any allergy prior to vaccinations?
-
hi again,
well... ethan's birthday party has been cancelled. we just found out this morning that my FIL has to stay in hospital for a couple of weeks so it just wouldn't be right for the whole family to be celebrating when he's lying in a hospital bed. i feel bad for ethan... but i guess the upside is that he won't remember anyway.. i guess... but you only turn 1 once right... i'm awful to be thinking that aren't i?
so anyway, i've got about 3 tins of formula left so i guess i'll just use them all up before making the switch. i've never heard anything about mixing cows milk with formula.. i might give that a try just in case he doesn't take to it.
about toilet training... ethan can sit in a poohey nappy for a few hours and it wouldn't bother him one bit (unless it was one of those really toxic, nappy rash causing poohs). so i guess that means he doesn't really mind or know the difference between dry and wet. i think i'll go out and buy one anyway and give it a go. can't hurt and i'll be needing it eventually.
ray, ethan is the same with swallowing things in one gulp! i guess that's why he chokes when i try to go a little lumpier. i've never heard anything about having a whole egg though, i'll ask the nurse when i he has his 12 month check up next week.
-
My bub has yet to have any vaccinations. I may get them done next year.
A week til he turns one ...eeek.
-
i just got a immunisation history statement in the mail... it's from medicare. gosh they really keep tabs on immunising kids aye? it's got everything from the date i took ethan to the docs right down to the brand of immunisation. it feels like i'm being watched...
i took ethan in for a haircut today and he was so good! i'm hoping to organise a little picnic for ethan's birthday tomoro without being too much of a huge celebration. hope everyone else is having a good weekend...
-
We got the same letter - blank statement as he is not up to date.
Bub stood up today with a huge smile. He will only take astep at a time then sits down.
He points at everything.
-
Congrates on bub standing up.
I hope you enjoy Ethan's birthday ge together. My husband is Polish and every family event has to be a big to do with hours of preparation/cooking with some times up to 60 guests. With DD bday party I have decided to have a sausage sizzle in the park with no fuss. I am hoping that everybody gets to enjoy the day without the fuss.
-
No fuss birthday - sounds ideal. My family hardly get together so its a great chance to see each other.
-
Hi - some childcare centers ask for an up to date immunisation statement when you enrol. Also, I think at 18 months if bub has had all his/her jabs, you get a once off immunisation allowence from the government.
Dana, I hope your FIL isn't too bad and that you have a good day on Thursday. I've thought about getting Ale'x hair cut, the front sticks up a lot in different directions and the back looks like being curly.
-
You can get an exemption from immunisation. In Aus we are not forced to do as such.
