Ann, Evie was having the same prob too (dummy falling out etc) so i've been trying to rock her until she is sound asleep and then when i put her in her cot settle her back so she's asleep and doesnt want to take the dummy. this works sometimes, but i'm hoping eventually she'll be used to being asleep without it and it wont bother her.
i also kept her cd on repeat last night so it went non-stop and had the nightlight on her baby monitor, its the fisher-price one - quite faint but enough to just see.

Ann, Jake settle best at night when DH goes in. He turns him onto the side facing away tucks him in tight, tells he's a good boy and pats him on the bottom a few times until he's stopped crying and is just doing his sleepy mumbles. I do the same but when Darren does it is much quicker - Jake knows I'm the milk truck and the soft touch!
