HJ - Constipation aaaaah. I know the feeling. I have only been a couple of times in the last week and it is killing me at the moment. I am doing all the right things such as drinking metamucil, lots of water, fruit, cereal etc. I don't have any solutions except to relax and it will happen eventually. Check with your doctor if you are really unsure. Big hugs xx

    Welcome Fussy and Olive's mummy.

I'm about to put a pic of Logan in the gallery now

    Hi Everyone,
I am new to this forum business so sorry if I mess it up a bit.
I have also had cracked sore nipples for the past 3 weeks. I lost heaps of blood during delivery and didn't get any milk for 5 days so Olive was basically dry sucking. Then she got jaundice so became extra lazy with feeding so they just got worse and worse. The frustrating part is that all the midwives and the CFHN have said that attachment is good, she's sucking well, putting weight back on etc. I have noticed a couple of days ago that she has a white coating on her tongue and i'm wondering if this is thrush as i've heard this can cause nipple problems. Has anyone had this? I had antibiotics during labour and afterwards as I got mastitis as well. I'm not ready to give up BF yet but I can understand why women do so good luck with the bottle feeding.
I also have a question about sleep. My baby has been very windy resulting in very little sleep so we have been sleeping her on her side (you know yourself when you have a pain in the belly that you don't want to sleep on your back) but I am feeling worried about it as it's obviously not recommended. I was thinking of using a Safe T Sleep. Has anyone used this or had our dialemma? will ask CFHN about sleeping at clinic tomorrow as well although i'm pretty sure of what she'll say.
    Thanks

    hey darl and weelcome!

My milk took nearly 2 weeks to come in and still isnt too great. I always get a damaged left nipple so i hear ya there. Yes bub could have abit of thrush, go and get it checked. When Mia has an upset tummy she prefers her side or her tummy. She sleep 90% of the time on her side. Try and give her a mouthful or 2 or cool boiled water before you burp her, this is meant to help bring the wind and aid in a upset tummy. HTH

Olives Mum it could just be milk on her tongue, I know that Julian always has a white tongue. I think thrush will also be on her cheeks and roof of her mouth and it will be really thick.

Consipation is a big thing after birth as your body is doing more things and using more of your body fluid, try and have between 2-3L of water a day, it will get better after a while.

    hugs xoxo

    Hi Everyone!!!!

Sorry I haven't been around much but we've been busy here!! Today we finally got our new car after 3 months of waiting so it's been a long day! Hayden is offically one week today and what a crazy week it's been!!! I'm making sure I enjoy this bubs DH and I have decided that this will be our last one, it amazing how much Hayden's already changed! DS has been fantastic and I can leave him unattended in the room with Hayden and know he'll be fine! DS has taken to patting Hayden on the head, proclaming I pat him.... makes us laugh everytime!

OMG you all seem to be having trouble with the breast feeding, I've found that Hayden will de-latch onto my nipple so I've got to be careful ..... learn't the hard way the other day and I'm still suffering for it!! I've been blessed with another placid baby this time around, Hayden sleeps from 10pm till 4am then feeds for 1/2 hour before going back to sleep for 4 hours!!!! Breastfeeding has been good this time but the inital latch always hurts which from memory I think is normal for the first few weeks!

    Hj,
Big hugs hun, I can garantee that it has nothing to do with the breastfeeding, I'm sure that things will settle down for you soon, keep your chin up your doing a fantastic job!!!!

    Hollye,
I'm not game to co-sleep I couldn't with my other 2 too scared I'd roll over on them, Hayden's in a bassinet right next to me so I can get to him easily! We've been good here, I've been trying to find the time to get on to bellybelly but something has always cropped up, finally I'm back!!!!

We're off to the Magic Cave to see santa tomorrow, should be intersting, DH is home this week and wants to take the three monkeys in so we're off tomorrow nice and early to get a head start before the crowds!!!

    Take care all,

Hugs to all those beautiful babes!!!!

    Luv Snoopea

Hi HJ, my heart goes out to you with the lack of sleep and crying. Liam's had a bad night. My sleep was 3 hours, then 1 hour, and the rest feeding and trying in vain to settle him. He only slept when we drove to the Dr for an appointment (he always sleeps in the car - If I hadn't had a c-section I'd be driving all day every day ). Then when we got home, he wouldn't settle again all arvo. DH let me escape for a couple hours sleep.
Tonight DH had had enough, and really, NOTHING was working. So we closed the door, finished making tea (kitchen is just outside his room) and let him cry for 20 mins while we actually ate TOGETHER(!!!!). By about 15 mins he was quiet and when we checked after the 20 mins he was sound asleep - and so far, still is. This is the 2nd time we've done this, and last time was almost as successful (he cried the whole 20 mins, but settled easily when i went in). It feels very unnatural to let him cry and not do anything, but when he's overtired it seems to work better than stressing ourselves out trying to fix something that probably can't be fixed. The book I read that recommended this (as a last stitch effort - I think it was 'Baby Love' by Robin Barker) recommended 20-30 mins, no less, which I would agree with (though it's hard). Don't know if this helps anyone, but HJ, if Bianca's having such a hard time settling she's probably well and truly over tired by the end of the day and maybe this will give you and DH some sanity. I know it doesn't answer the question of why she's crying in the 1st place, but when i was looking around when Liam was crying constantly, everyone basically said that once you've answered all the basic questions (are they hungry, hot, cold, wet, windy, bored, overtired etc) they're probably just crying. "Babies cry" everyone says - VERY unhelpful, but this is what I meant when I said we'd stopped stressing about it. We just let him cry and do the best we can. I agree, I don't think the bottle feeding would be causing any problems. And because I've lived through a crying baby I know it's the most demoralisng thing you can experience as a new mum. Please believe everyone when they're saying you're not doing anything wrong. Some babies cry more than others. My DH was a terror as a baby to his poor parents crying constantly and never sleeping for 3 months or so (they'd lived through SEVEN miscarriages before he came along - what a nightmare of a miracle he was huh ). Good luck, take a deep breath, and take time to congratulate yourself on the things you're doing well, no matter how small. To get you started: You're asking for help (something I'm really bad at); you love and care about your little girl strongly enough to keep looking for an answer for her; and you're giving her everything you can when you can (e.g. moving to bottle feeding when bf wasn't working). You're not doing a bad job as a mum, you're just experiencing a couple of REEALLY tricky situations. Keep your chin up.

Starskky - LOL on your snuffling little boy. After giving anxious little cries to start with, Liam just sleeps the whole time while feeding.

Well, I'm gonna go catch up on some sleep while he's sleeping. I'm really nervous about tomorrow. I have some 2 hour thing for new mums at the Community Health Centre and am dreading that Liam might be unsettled during the whole thing and how I'll handle it. Why a TWO HOUR thing for new mums??!!! Like it's not nerve wracking enough getting out of the house for a short time for something that's flexible!

    Anyway, wish me luck.
