Tanya: See what the doctor says first and consider solids because some babies are just fussy and introducing solids at this age is fine and dandy. Jude gobbles down his rice cereal in the morning.

You should know that the choice to start with formula is a difficult and painful choice that will keep you second guessing yourself for a long time. However, you will be able to continue breastfeeding for a couple more months with formula supplemented, so it won't be an instant end to breastfeeding (this is, of course, based on my experience).

Jude is now fully formula fed, but he is always content and happy after his feeds now (he never used to be when I BF him) and I've finally accepted the situation after months and months of guilt and frustration and an inability to completely let go, despite how stressful and soul-destroying breast feeding became for me.

But breastfed babies do dramatically decrease their weight gain from 4 months on, so there's a good chance you have nothing to worry about. The growth charts are based on formula fed babies, so ignore them if you're breastfeeding and listen to the professionals.

kuraiza - I'm not against giving solids at this age. I just don't think she'd be interested in solids yet. But then maybe she'd surprise me. The other thing is that breast milk has a much higher fat content than solid food so if I want her to gain more weight getting her to have more breast milk is the answer.

Sami - I rang the ABA yesterday and they went through a check list of what signs to look for and she is healthy by their list. But I really feel like something is wrong. Why would she drink EBM and formula after a b/f if she was satisfied? I'm just so scared that it means she's not been getting enough. I might ring again today and ask about the top ups and see what they say about that.

I don't know if I can make it through today!! Bethany has been screaming since...wait for it 8am it is now 11am our time. She is quiet for now in her cot but I am not holding out a whole lot of hope. I think her teeth are bothering her and she is still feeling yuk. I feel like I have been hit with a truck train and bus. I think the term is carers fatigue I also have the cold that I was warned about. The docs at the hospital said that it was more than likely we would get RSV too but it would just show up as a congested cold. Yup my sinuses are killing me. I have always had sinus problems, had 2 lots of surgery on em they are that bad and when I get colds like this they get pretty painful. So I am stressed and miserable and well miserable. Didn't mean to start everyones day on a downer. I think I will go and have a lie down while there is silence in the house....who knows how long it will last. *sigh* surely it wasn't mean to be this hard, I know it isnt meant to be all easy but this is just sooo tough.

Tanya - I just watched the footage on FB re Maya rolling - I made a comment - girl, I reckon she will be an early crawler - for what it's worth She looks gorgeously happy and bright and very mobile - maybe she just likes experimenting with the bottle after boob cos 1) she doesnt have to work it to get a let down 2) something different and new at this age they will be interested in exploring. So if she doesnt have the bottle every day - might be the WOW factor - cos 40mls in bottle is about what they could drink - what kind of teat do you have on your bottles - medium or superslow etc??

Hollye - Mia is looking lovely - what a head of hair!! Zander's head now has fuzz all over it, but hard to see cos I have another blondie on my hands!

amy - just hugs for you, easy for me to say "hope it gets better" - I do empathise how hard it is to get through those days when you look forward to the sun setting and the day is over

kuraiza - its nice to see the little ones enjoying their food isn't it! I have tried Zander 4 times - and not interested at all - then last night tried him when kids were sitting at table for dinner (I tried day time to avoid any potential upset tummy) - he probably ate two teaspoons - and two on his bib - so will try that time of day from now on - thoguht he might be too tired etc ...oh well

Georgi - thinking of you, how is the back and where are you hmmmm??!!! You've been on FB so I think you are ok

I took a sleeping pill last night and I slept through for the first time, yay I'm growing up! No I won't be doing drugs every night, but I was exhausted after yet another night of not being able to get back to sleep after the 2am feed. My husband took care of Jude and I took the 6am shift.

I realised that I haven't slept for about 8 months because my entire third trimester I had pelvic displacement and couldn't sleep through the pain, so I might well be the single most tired person on the planet (that's what it feels like).

Amy: Don't really know what to say ... Can you leave Bethany with anyone and go out and sit in a cafe and drink chai tea really really slowly for a few hours while you watch Hamish the Cyclone blowing over the sea?

Sami: I was a bit surprised how well Jude took to food because I wasn't sure if he was showing interest or not, but he eats perfectly ... nothing gets spat back out and now he reaches out for everything I'm eating. He even drinks water from a glass (he refuses to drink water from a bottle for some reason). Cute kid that boy of mine.

jack tries to grab everything i am eating if he is near me or on my lap while i am eating....
last night we had sausages, mashed potato/pumpkin peas/corn/carrot with gravy...so i made a small bowl up for jack blended it (was still a tad chunky) and he ate it... mind you this morning when it came out the other end..hmmm let me tell ya!!! i needed a gas mask!!!

Sami - What makes you think she might crawl early? I actually think she'd be running around now if she could! She's just so eager to stand and walk and do things!

katones - You just added another reason why I am not in a hurry to start solids.

kuraiza - I hope you feel better after that sleep! Maya slept for 9 hours in a row on Tuesday night and OMG I felt soooooooooooo good afterwards. Then last night she woke twice and undid all my caught up sleep. Maya is now starting to take a bottle so this weekend I was thinking of getting my DH to do a night feed while I sleep!!! I just hope she'll take a bottle in the middle of the night!

amy - :hugs: I have often felt like it's all too hard so you're not alone in your feelings!

This afternoon I gave Maya a teething ring to play with while feeding and she fed better. She kept pulling on and off - which she does normally anyway. But she kept coming back on when normally she'd just stop at some point. It was pretty funny to watch though cos she'd pull off and put the ring in her mouth and then decide she wants boob so she'd try and put BOTH in her mouth at the same time. Anyway, I just hope giving her something to play with keeps working.

Tanya - she looks really strong and her rolling is very deliberate as in - she decides and goes - my DD was like that and crawling early, and the littler babies in my MG with DS1 were all getting around by 8 months! - yet my boys were/are still spinning themselves around the floor clockwise on their sides like breakdancers at that age Does she sit up very well?? Zander has got the idea of holding his ankles so stabilise a bit so he's getting there - if centred to start he can do 20 seconds - but then he gets all excited and wobbly lol.

The littler ones often find it easier too cos they aren't carrying rolls/weight.

I bought Zander a new ball today cos our others are outside and feral for babies - oh dear, the simple things are the best hey! He loves it!

thanks girls, sometimes you just need someone to say that it is ok that everything sucks!! I still feel pretty crappy but Bethany has improved, I gave her some panadol she had a big sleep and has been all smiles and giggles ever since, pretty cute. I hope she figures out how to roll over soon though she can go back to front but not the other way and she gets frustrated and well you can fill in the rest, I spend half my life flipping her over like a burger.
Gee aren't I full of complaints today!!

Man i wish Mia would STOP rolling. im sick of chasing her and putting her back in the centre of the floor, she nearly ended up under the TV unit today! She is getting quite full on already.. *sigh* she pushes off on her feet when on her tummy so yeh she does a 360 and doesnt move much forward and then starts growling. lol

harum... think I've been lurking... keep reading and meaning to post then realised I haven't posted!

Hollye - lol that's too funny re Mia growling... I'm kinda picturing Princess Bear now! X can only roll back to front right side... a few of the kids in my MG can grab their feet & suck their toes... X can't get near 'em... too much blubber in the way methinks. We're wondering how long it'll be until he starts some new rolling moves.

Amy_o - aaww I totally understand re needing ppl to say it's ok everything sucks. We have an official name for it in my household, it's called a "whinge session" and you both just have to take it in turns to complain about stuff. Basically "it sucks that....". Inevitably you descend complaining about the ridiculous and then you start to feel better weirdly enough. Well it works for me anyways...

SamiH - i want to buy X a new ball now.. mebbe I should have been seeing confessions of a shopaholic hey!?!? We've just realised we've got Gold Class tickets we were given that have to be used by the end of next month... so I'm gonna see if I can work something out with MIL... and if there's anything decent showing!!!

Katones...awww the sound of that poo, mebbe I'lll delay solids longer lol!

Kuraiza - eep 8 months is an awful long time with no decent sleep! You poor thing! I'm so glad you had a decent night after all this time.

Not much new here. Just did my yoga & balance exercises on the wii fit so feeling mighty noble. X is occasionally a bit teething grizzly but mostly ok... I'm wondering when his weight gain will slow down... weighed him at home... 9.1kg occasionally worry that I'm over-feeding him. When does the gain usually start to slow?

NOW - lol - he is huge belfie - I just checked Riley's book cos he was a big boy - at 6 months he was 9.15kg - and he was b/f exclusively until 6 months too. Riley was also tall too so whilst he looked rolly polly - he didnt look overly chubber IYKWIM.

Movies tomorrow - trying desperately to express - and I suck at it - got 100 mls in the freezer - and just got 60 so hopefully i can get another 50 tomorrow morning so he can justhave the fridge stuff - never tried him on defrosted EBM - how naive does that sound with my third kid - never used defrosted EBM

Gotta finish lunch packing, poor Zander will only get 30 mins before getting pulled out of the cot again - I am getting a b/f necklace on Monday Tanya to try and help Z with his feeding, I am a bit over it at the moment - just only on for a couple of minutes ....
