Sami - Yeah Maya has been much more clingy and teary during the day. I wish there was something I could do to make her better.

Re: Taking a bottle - Have you tried a Mag Mag? It's soooo much easier to get fluids out of. I actually bought the pack where you get three different teats - a bottle teat, sippy cup head and a straw attachment. It took a few goes with the sippy head but now Maya drinks from it by herself (well sometimes with a bit of help from me to lift it high enough P.S. I know it's easier cos I tired both the Avent sippy attachment and the MagMag sippy head myself.

Hmm I really can't understand what part of the formula is beef based or vegetable based. I thought it was all just milk mixed with vitamins and minerals. I believe you when you say it though. I've been using the S26 and haven't really thought about it cos just assumed that all the formulas were the same thing pretty much. TBH it doesn't bother me what it's based on though. Or is there something I'm missing?

I'm going to take Maya back to the doctors this afternoon for a check up. I just want to make sure she isn't developing an ear infection. She does seem to be a bit better in some ways (her chest isn't sounding as bad now). But now she has head cold symptoms - very runny, snotty nose. So that's been great with trying to feed her - NOT! Cos she can't breathe well. Poor girl.

I myself am feeling a lot better now. Yay for anti-biotics.

Hmm.. Maya doesn't get up on her knees at all. I sometimes try and put her on her knees but she automatically swings her legs out so that she's lying flat on the ground. She does roll a lot now and she turns herself around using her hands. She has also discovered that she can push herself backwards with her hands. So she can move herself about the room a lot now. But I don't think she'll be crawling any time soon.

Zander already has a sippy cup that we use for water so that is all good - I wanted a different one for milk though,, and actually thought making him suck for it would be good because that's what he has to do when b/f to stimulate a let down etc. I plan on doing both bottle and boob for a while.

Re : formulas - I dont wanna come across preachy so please dont interpret it that way - I respect others choices and decision - but I have chosen vege based for lots of reasons - one being our bodies are not really made to digest a lot of meat (which I am sure you already know lol) - so giving my baby a beef based product when going from breastmilk could make it really hard for him to digest - hence going the vege formula way. It could give him a sore tummy, constipation and all those things that make us feel yucky if and when we eat too much meat too (which I often do at a BBQ when it all tastes so nice LOL). I dont wanna complicate it any more than I have to with trying the bottle. For some people it isn't an issue - prob like Maya cos she has been having some formula for a while and her system is used to it now.

Well, he took 10mls this arvo LOL. I just let him play with it - it was cold this time, not fridge cold but room cold whereas my other kids liked it warm so thats what i did the other days - try something different.

I am going back to work on 10/08 2 days a week in the office to start - childcare starts on 03/08 - and surprisingly I feel ok about it, which means I am ready to go back to work too. The room leader is the same one when Riley started at 10 months and has also looked after Giselle when she started too so I am very comfortable with that. Just this damn bottle business

I nearly backed off trying today cos I looked at his gums and he has finally the tooth cutting - but he has been pretty cruisey still - lets hope tonight is still a good one :0

Well finally some good news, the speech pathologist is happy with Bethany's feeding, now we just need to put some weight on! Next weigh in Friday...

Georgi - I've thought about getting a chair like BJ has. Can you attach it to a chair? I hope you and BJ have a better nights sleep tonight.

Sami - I did a bit of research on the formulas and now I understand what it's based on means the fats that are in the formula. So S26 has beef fat in it and Karicare has vegetable fat in it. Yeah Maya hasn't had any problems on the S26. But she only ever takes 140ml at most a day and it can vary between 20 to 140 mls. So I don't think it really matters what she's on cos she only has a small amount. Plus she's already eating meat and doesn't have a problem with that either. But I can fully understand your reasoning and it's something I just had never thought to find out about.

Yeah I only use a sippy cup for water too not b/m. But I'm lucky that Maya takes a bottle. I'm sure Z will get there with a bit of practise. It's still 2 months till he goes to day care, that's plenty of time for things to change.

amy - That's great that Bethany is feeding better now.

fluff - Did Jack have any more naps?

I took Maya to the doctors and her ear is still sore and irritated but it's not an ear infection at the moment. Hopefully it won't turn into one! The doctor also looked at Maya's gums (cos she was interested to see where her teeth were not cos anything would be wrong) and she said "oh all her teeth are just about to come out". And I said "they've been about to come out for 2 months now!"

TANYA - yep, it attaches onto a dining chair. I put it on the floor cause we don't have a dining chair as such. Our beautiful dining table has bench seats (bali style)

I have had a terrible day. BJ just wouldn't sleep. I guess him & Jack have been talking. Plus, I've had this stup headache & cramping. I just wanted to get some sleep myself. Thankfully DH took BJ off my hands when he got from work so I could have a shower & take some time out! I felt much better after this. But then...... He wouldn't have his BF He has NEVER not wanted this feed just before bed. After loads of crying & screaming, & some panadol, he finally had a feed and thankfully went to sleep without a sound. Man...... I just don't know why he's like this today. I wonder if he senses that I feel crapiola... Possible? We have our fortnightly MG lunch tomorrow so hopefully he'll be better tomorrow.

Nope no more sleeps in this house BUT he managed to hold up all the way through groceries and then a bath...then bottle then snuggled to sleep...and is now sound asleep

Feeding front...Jack is taking 300mls at a night feed...seems to be a hungry boy...so i am not going to not give it to him...I have also been thinking he isn't FULL hence the waking up bit the past few nights??

Hi all, long time no see....

Have been having trouble with the internet, so after a while just gave up on it. Anyway, it seems ok now.

Have been reading some of your posts, but keep getting interrupted. Anyway for those of you trying to get bubs on a bottle, just wondered if you have tried a new bottle thats out called Adiri.... It is soooo cool. My sister was working at the baby expo and bought me one for V, yet V isnt that fussed on it atm. It is in the shape of a BB, and is a all in one bottle. The teat doesnt get replaced and gets filled up from the bottom. Since it is similar to the BB, it might be easier to get them to take. Since V has been on the bottle for a while now, she is used to the normal teats, so when she tries the new one she hasnt got much to latch onto as it is like a nipple.

Cant believe some of these bubs have 5 teeth already, V still has the one.

Tanya, Amy - You girls are doing really well with your little ones. Tanya, I am so glad Maya reached the 6kg mark. Woohoo. I will find out tomorrow what V weighs.

Belfie - Everytime I have a morning cuppa, still just the one. I believe her second one is going to come thru soon tho. Woohoo 5.....

Georgi - I hope BJ is being good to mummy today and that headache you had is gone. AF is not much fun now that she has decided to return is it. I dread that time of the month. hugs I will call you as soon as I get a chance.

Well since February 14, we have had Valentines day, the a birthday in March, then easter then 2birthdays in April and a Wedding anniversary, then another birthday and Mothers day in May, so have been sooo busy. Along with doing bookwork, and having sick kids on and off. Then the internet being difficult.
Anyway, while I have a chance I will let you all know how V is doing. V is doing really well, apart from when she had her immunisations, whoich she didnt handle too well. She is always smiling, has her giggles all the time, her little leg when she is happy or excited just swings constantly, hehehe. Although she doesnt always say it, I have heard Mum a couple of times and over the past couple of days Dada has come up on a few occassions. All in amongst her baby babble and squeals. She looks at herself in the mirror and giggles at herself, soo cute. Still little, but I can see she is growing. So fingers crossed for tomorrow as we have her pead appt at 11.30am. Hoping she is at least 5.5kg. I guess I will find out when her operation will be done to remove her cyst then too.
She is such a fussy eater, but is slowly starting to eat more variety, yet downside is even tho she only picks at the solids, she is starting not to have much bottle either and whinges and turns her head and pushes the bottle away almost every feed, thankfully tho she eventually takes it. She is such a small eater, and is lucky to have her full feed all at once. The most she has ever had in a sitting is 160ml. Anyway will let you know what her weight is tomorrow. hugs all.

Update on V:

Well today went well, V still hasnt hit the 5.5kg mark just yet but she will soon. We havent booked her Op yet as the pead said she is still to little to have it done. He said normally the bubs are ok to go under GA but V isnt the size of a 6mth old so we must wait. He said even if we did book it they would send us home due to her size. I have a referral to have her hips ultrasound so will do that soon.

Anyway heres V's measurements. Weight: 5.230kg Length: 61.5cm HC 41.5cm

csab - It's great to hear from you and hear how V has been doing. She sounds like she's doing really well. Maya has also been a frustrating eater at times. Thankfully she's doing better with her food at the moment. Hopefully V will get there with her food soon. Maya also isn't the size of a 6 month old. All the bubs in my MG are a lot bigger than her. People often assume she's 3 months old. We just have small but mighty bubs.

That Adiri looks interesting. I googled it. When Maya wouldn't take a bottle I eventually found she'd take the Tommy Tippee Closer to Nature. which is also more breast like.

Sami - Are there some mothers you could borrow bottles from to see if Z will take them? I tried the Tommy Tippee one from a mum at MG before buying them.

I hope all the non-sleeping babies are back to sleeping again!

Maya is nearly better now. She's got a cough and a runny nose but seems a lot happier and back on food again. In fact she's eating more than before she got sick. Maybe she's making up for not eating well?! I can tell she's grown again cos she now fits into 00 pants around the waist! They don't fall off her any more.

Tonight I'm going on a girls night out to see a play! I can't remember what the play is - though I do remember it's not something I'm really interested in. I'm going cos my DH said he'd look after Maya and I thought I could do with a night out!! OMG I'm getting excited now!! haha.. I haven't had a night out.. since... who knows when!

CSAB - Glad all went well at the paed, although V didn't make the weight you were hoping for. She sounds like she's doing just perfectly. Sorry I missed your call yesterday. I was busy laying down with BJ so he would sleep.

BJ has his first sickness. It's not too bad, but he has a stuffed up nose. I can only tell when he's BF'ing, he sounds phlemy (sp?). He must've got it off a baby at MG. Not sure if it's affecting him much, but he has been an outright PIA. He wouldn't sleep yesterday so I ended up laying down with him & he slept for nearly 1.5hrs. He went to be no probs up until 3.15am. He woke up crying, more of a whinge, so I left him at it for 1HOUR! He still didn't stop. I didn't wanna feed him as this normally makes him wake every 30mins or so, so I got him up out of bed. He was wide awake & happy! He didn't have red watery eyes so he wasn't crying, just whinging (which I could tell by his cries). I sat on the lounge with him & gave him some water. He didn't have much, just a couple of small mouthfuls then pushed the cup away. About 10mins later I changed his nappy & put him back in bed. He pretty much went straight to sleep. What's that about???? He woke again at 5.45 this time with a more urgent cry, so I fed him. He went straight back to sleep, thankfully. He did wake again with a little cry but went back to sleep. Thankfully he didn't wake till 8.15am. This is very unusual for him. The night before was a shoker too. He kept waking up. Do you think it's cause of his stuffed nose? Gosh, I hope he gets back to his normal sleeping self soon. I can handle the days of not sleeping, well kinda, but not the nights. I feel terrible that I feel so angry about it. I feel like a bad mum for getting upset that he wakes. I know babies do this but just can't handle it. I'm now begining to think I won't have a 2nd bub, it's too hard.

Oh Georgi, I know the feeling (and I also think having 2 is insane on some days... on other days I want 2. Go figure huh!). I was having a whinge to my sister (who has 2 kids) the other week - and feeling like I shouldn't be whinging but i still was anyway, and she sent back these very wise words....

When they are little they are so dependent on you for everything, it's very tiring and demanding. If I came to live with you and you had to make and give me all my meals, dress me, help me bath, help me get in and out of bed, get in and out of the car, cried when I was tired and wanted things, and you had to watch me all the time I was awake you would be sick of it within a week. Fortunately babies are infinitely cuter, plus a bit lighter and more portable. But the principle is still the same - it's a tough job. No matter how good Mum was, the buck always stopped with me. Roll on Grandparenthood I say!

That made me feel a lot better. Even if you have an easy baby, whether you think you should be whinging or not - it's still a tough job, and you have your good days/nights and bad. And this is a great place for letting it out hope he has a better night tonight for you.
