Happy 10 months Z and X! OMG 10 months.. time is flying!

csab - Yes I've had doctors write down "failure to thrive" in regards to M. It is such a horrible thing to see. How is V doing? Is she better now? How's her weight?

belfie - I'd want confirmation from a paed that she is OK. I guess I am constantly being told by people including health professionals that she is so small and I have to fatten her up. I want to hear that she is actually OK!!

Sami - That pamper party sounds nice. I could do with one of those. I've decided to organise a night out with some girl friends to a movie and dinner! I haven't done that in ages!

As for Z not eating I kinda know how you feel. I'm having the opposite problem where M won't take the bb much at all now. I am so frustrated and don't know what to do. I really don't want to give up the bf and I know bm is better for her and I'm happy to continue with it but it's like she just has never been interested in it and is far more interested in solid food now. I feel like I'm trying to force her to have the bb a lot of the time now. And I think my supply is really low cos she barely drinks anything. So do I just finally give up and admit defeat after months and months of struggling to get her to eat from the bb? Or keep trying to make it to 12 months which is my goal? I just really don't want to give up but feel like I can't keep going like this either.

Happy 10mths X & Z, how quick is time flying.

    Sami -

Tanya - I know how you feel, when I kept hearing (noone said it quite that way to me however) Failure to thrive, I thought, No, she is doing fine, she's happy and pushes everything away when she has had enough. Sure she's small, but she has always been gaining and the only time she didnt and lost weight not including when she was born, was when she was so sick. It makes you feel like your doing something wrong. I understand also wanting to hear some good news for once with the pead's instead of hearing, she has this maybe that, or it would be interesting to know what she has, at every visit. It is so stressful to hear things about your bub, whom all we see is normal. Just abit small for her age. Its funny, when V was in hospital and had all these tubes attached to her, they had some bandaids taping them down over V's V birthmark, so when all the tubes were removed they started applying some ointment on her nose and on her V birthmark. I believe they thought her V were marks left from the tubes and bandaid. They were saying to me, ohhh look at the poor little thing with all those marks, she looks sooo sore. I kept looking at her nose and thinking yeah poor little thing, until I realised they were rubbing it in her V as well. hehehe

I hope everyone else is doing OK.

I am still sick with the flu, and trying like mad to not get V sick anymore than what she already is, she seems alot better than what she was more than a week ago. Yet her nose is still runny. Wish it would leave her. It seems to be just dragging.

Samih! Happy 10 months to Z!! Geez I can't believe the time is going sooo fast! Too fast! I got to cuddle a newborn yesterday... ooooh ... so little - geez I look good with a newborn . But what got me... this eensy teensy precious little mite, he was .4kg bigger than X was!

Tanya - oh hun that must be tough! I can understand wanting someone (medical someone) to say she's ok. As for the BFing, i wish I had a useful suggestion for you, but I don't, just gotta give you a big and hopefully you'll get some good advice in your other thread - I think you've done an awesome job and I know that you'll do the absolute best you can for Maya - as you always do

CSAB - I hope V is nicely on the mend for you and your neck is better too. Little V sounds like she's got the whole world sussed out - carry me, feed me... that's the life! She's such a character lol.

well X's sleep has gone to crazy town atm. The other night was wailing at midnight, 1am, 2am... then my folks decided to text me at 3am! I'm like... what the? (they are in UK atm so have some excuse). And last night was pretty much the same. His day sleeps are still ok, so I really have NFI why. I need some matchsticks for my eyelids today... and the sparky is coming first thing this morning (why oh why did I think that was a good idea? stupid belfie, stupid!)

to everyone else, hope you're all going well.

Belfie - V seems to be on the mend, I just wish her snotty nose would go. Yet it is definately better out than in IYKWIM. My neck is still abit sore, but so much better than last week. Yet this stupid flu doesnt seem to want to leave.. As long as V or the other kids dont get it back I will be happy. I hope you get to have some rest today once that sparky leaves. You poor thing all that lack of sleep. I want to go back to bed too. Dont think there will be much chance of that with the kids and bookwork and some grocery shopping I need to do. Huhmmmm.... Have a good day hun and give X a hug from V and I for his 10mth mile.

belfie- sometimes when they learn a new trick like crawling - it can muck up their sleep because they are a bit more restless, or wake and instead of going back to sleep, move around more and then get upset - all that type of stuff. I hope he settles again in the next week for you.

I hear you on it though - since Z was sick and wanting 2 - 3 feeds overnight for fluids etc - he now want feeds around 11/12am - and then another at 5ish, we are trying to push the 5 one out which is slowly working until 6.30 with a dummy etc - but he just stirs for an hour if i dont feed him around midnight - then he sleeps solidly for a few hours - so I figure cos he aint eating much it is a tradeoff - but seriously, i cant do that and work!!!

Z starts phasing tomorrow at child care - 9 - 11am - around sleep time - eek - then 9 - 12 Wed, 9 - 2 Thurs & Fri and he formally starts on Monday for 2 days a week. I feel just sick about it

ANyway, got heaps to do with labelling and stuff to get ready - hi everyone, and be back later.

    Another famous Amy bullet update....
    * Dh sick, got flu yes that animal related one We have been warned to watch Bethany closely cause of her earlier brush with Broncolitist she is likely to develop complications quickly. Got the run down on what to do last night at the hospital when I took DH in.
*My mum flew home today and I feel miserable
*I am buggered cause like the other bubs Bethany seems to have decided that sleep is for the weak, and 3am is wake up time but with screaming thrown in. I was up with her from 230am till 530am. Just standing and rocking. Please let this be a phase and a short one of that
*Bethany dropped 800gms in a week. Noone worried though She had a buggy thing so maybe that was that.
*And things just get more and more complicated with Bethany's Labia.....sigh.... Where do mummy's go to apply for a day off??

And that concludes the update from Amy and Bethany

I had a mini meltdown over the weekend over M's BF! I just feel like it's never really worked well but at the same time I've had some wonderful moments BF and there was a time when M wouldn't take the bottle at all. Anyway, I've decided to stop expressing. It can take me an hour or more to get anything coming out and then only get 10 to 50mls. It's such a lot of work for not much milk. And I'm going to drop the dream feed finally. So fingers crossed it won't change her sleep. I talked to M's paed today and she seemed happy with her current weight gain and said she sounds like she's doing great, so that helped me feel better today. Also she said it would be fine to drop that night feed. So I'll start with those changes for now and see what happens.

I also hate that M now throws tantrums when she wants something and can't have it, which is really annoying! I either have to give it to her, distract her or cuddle her for a while. Is everyone else's bubs doing this?

csab - I hope you are better soon. And yes I'm trying hard now to concentrate on the fact that I think M is doing well! Rather than listen to people telling me to fatten her up.

belfie - Sounds like you are very clucky. Possibility of some news soon?? I hope X sleeps better tonight.

Sami - I hope Z's time at child care goes well. And I hope you cope OK without him.

    amy
    - Hello! Good to hear from you. I hope your DH is feeling better soon and the complications with Bethany's labia can be sorted.

Ohhh Amy, so sorry you have to go thru all what you have with little Bethany. What a huge weight loss, they are normally concerned if it is 10% or more from their weight. Yet even with V's loss when she was sick, they watched her even tho they sent her home under her admittance weight. Yet I do have the dieticians chasing me up so i can take V in to see them, had to cancel again with them of being sick. How much does Bethany weigh. I hope it wasnt more bad news about B's labia. Dont you wish some good news would come for once instead of hearing the bad all the time. It would be good to have a mummy day off, instead of having so much stress all the time. I hope DH is ok too, just something else to worry about huh. It worries me with V after her last Bronch episode. Take Care huni. Hugs

Tanya - So glad you had some good news today with your pead. It can be such an emotional roller coaster huh? You need to do whats best for you and M in the breastfeeding dept and you have done such a wonderful job getting as far as you have, so congratulate yourself. I wish I could have stuck to it like you did. I was just so worried about V's weight back then I thought it was my milk not getting her to gain weight. V has this thing where she throws her toys or what ever else she has in her hand at the time then chucks a stink until you give it back to her. Once she has it again then she throws it again. Just a game for her. She loves playing with the nappy wipe packets, once you take that off her she winges, so I just pick her up and walk away, show her herself in the mirror and she doesnt care anymore until the next time.

Tanya - everyone told me X would be more frustrated before he crawled, but if anything he seems more frustrated now because he knows he can get to things, so he gets grumpy if I don't let him! So yes, definitely chucking wobblies! And lol no news yet! I think the thought of being PG again scares the cr*p out of me... maybe I could just magically create another bub - no PG, no labour/cs It sounds like Maya's doing great if the paed reckons to drop the night feed! And ooooh you have my sympathy on the expressing, that's aaaages to express for that amount, you poor thing so annoying for you!

CSAB - oh bookkeeping, nightmare hey - I'm sending you good vibes. Hope it all gets done with not too much drama and that you get some more sleepy time too. Luckily X had a great night last night finally... aaah i love sleep.

oooh out of time to finish personals properly, BBL...

amy_o - love the bullet update. ... but thinking of you

csab - I've also been worried about M's weight and that maybe my BM wasn't good enough. But I just kept thinking that that's the reason so many women give up BF cos they feel that there isn't enough of their BM. I just can't see how the majority of the population doesn't have enough BM. At the same time I am so worried that I have done the wrong thing by M and that I should have put her on FF and then she'd be a big healthy baby. I guess we all just make decisions on what we think are right but never really know if they really are the best decisions.

    csab & belfie
    - I'm actually glad to hear that X and V are also getting frustrated with things. I was feeling like M is the only one.

    belfie
    - I keep telling my DH that it's his turn to be pregnant next.

One more complaint - it's driving me crazy that M will eat ANYTHING - and I mean anything. She is constantly picking things off the ground and eating them. Today I caught her putting a sharp bit of a cane basket that had fallen off. Most of the time she's so quick I can't stop her. I vacuum often but there's always things I miss or new things falling on the ground. I guess this is just normal and something I have to get used to and probably good for her immune system. But I'm a bit scared about the idea of anything sharp in her mouth.

Just the short story with Bethany's Labia is that it is still totally fused bar the little gap to let the urine leak out. She will need surgery and has been refered to an OBGYN who will do it. I am unsure about having an adult doctor operating on my baby but I will just have to wait till I can talk to them. The OBGYN who has taken the case is one of the most experianced up here and did a lot of my care in late pregnancy given all my complications. So I at least know her and do trust her.
I haven't escaped the evil flu and am not so well but garlic horseradish and echaniacia are good!!
Bethany has developed a cough...I am watching her VERY closely. So far today all she has wanted to do is be held and sleep. She did do a bottle. I will act sooner rather than later though.
Well I am heading back to the lounge while little one is sleeping.

Amy - Sorry to hear Bethany is stil not well and you too also about Bethany labia problem, sorry you didnt get better news and looks like a op is on the cards. Poor little thing.. V has also kept me up last night, thru up in her cot and has been wingey ever since. So I too am keeping a close eye on her. She was asleep for about 10mins and is now wingey again. So I am off too to the lounge.

Tanya - I used to have really creamy BM with 3 of mine until DD4 c/s milk was crap, and then V comes along and wasnt much better than DD4's. Then with her weight not getting any better, I just had to try the FF. I tried the expressing but couldnt get much out and I used to be able to get a full bottle in just minutes, and it was taking me over an hour just to get 50ml. Even though when V would feed on the BB, she would be gulping like crazy trying to keep up with the flow. She was settled, wasnt whingey and feed when she wanted, yet she would be on the BB every hour practically of an afternoon as she would build up her food supply for her night time sleep. Yet even with all those feeds, wasnt gaining. Yet then the Formula wasnt much better, even though she gained more the BM. So looks like it could be just her.

Belfie - Ahhh the bookkeeping, I am sooo over it right now. At least the BAS is done. I guess I will build up the energy to finish LFY work. How is everything going for you? You know whats funny, I used to want to be pg, and then when I was it was like ohhh noooo, now I have the labour to worry about. Well that was when I had DS1 and pg with DS2, after that it was once I was pg, will it stay that way, then the labour.

csab - I think you are lucky to have the experience to know whether your milk is ok or not. I think having a c/s also effected my milk. My milk is very watery I think, which is why M is so small. I think if she hadn't started as such a big baby (4kgs) then I would have put her on FF too. Because of her initial big size she didn't need to put on weight as much at the start like V did. I totally think you did the right thing for V. I just think some mothers must have a decent supply but think that they don't and then give it up.

amy - Sorry to hear that Bethany will need surgery. Poor girl. I hope the OB can put your mind at ease.

Tanya - I have to admit, it has been interesting seeing the differences with my BM with each pgcy. I really believe it was my last 2 c/s's that affected my BM. I think being able to go right thru labour, well most of it with DD3 and then having the c/s didnt seem to affect my BM at all. I think she had the best BM out of all of them. Sooooo creamy, you would see the BM cream leave marks on the bottle when tipped. Then the last too, wouldnt have any cream at all really.

Well, V is still not well, I have been hoping her high temps would leave her, but looks like a not so good night ahead. Just have to keep watching her. So much for having her put on weight, we seem to be fighting the weight gains atm with her being sick on and off. Takes her forever to get back to eating right after she has been sick.

selfish post - Z coped ok with 3 hours at child care today - ate 1/4 of the lunch they served and only slept for 30 mins - but just got up from a 2 hour one at home - that's all good

Oh, and he just LOVES those Organic Heinz Rice Cakes with cream cheese on them (not the kraft stuff, real cheese ) - but he cant live on those I suppose - he just ate 3 ....

SamiH - wow, between the custard and the cream cheese, you've got a dairy boy there! He's got funny tastes that boy of yours... hopefully he'll pick up soon! Glad to hear that daycare went ok

csab & tanya - that's really interesting about your BM... I'd guess the c-s must have some kinda impact really! (eek, puts me off having one next time... ). My milk is very creamy - always leaves a "cream ring" in the bottle. I really feel for you both, it must be so difficult and stressful worrying about their weight and what they eat. I hope V get's better & starts chowing down quicksmart! And Tanya, if you'd put her on FF, then you would have worried that you should have stuck with BM! Back yourself hun, you're doing an awesome job - both of you are it might just be the way she was gonna be.

Oh and CSAB - yeah BAS done - for once not too much stress... just got some catch-up to do one day... one day... when I'm 50 . Before I was PG with X, I used to wonder how PG women don't spend their entire time freaking out about labour then once I was PG I didn't think about it THAT much. Just do what's gotta be done i guess. I just wanna get fitter/slimmer/stronger before i'm PG again - so I can lose it all again hahaha!

amy_o - GL working out what to do for Bethany's labia, and getting better from the evil flu!

Belfie - I keep saying one day, one day and I will be all caught up. What a laugh. That one day will probably when I nolonger need to do book keeping, maybe 80 or maybe when I am 6foot under who knows. When you are pg again, you will be more experienced and know what your in for. hehehe.

Sami - Yay on the day care and the cheese and bicuits. V hasnt wanted anything today except her bottle.

Well had V back to the Dr's and he wanted a swab done so sent me up to the patholgist 15min before they were to close. Well still couldnt end up getting the swab done, the lady wasnt experienced with kids. So now may try somewhere else tomorrow, if V isnt any better. Dr wants to see her again tomorrow to keep an eye on her. How fun, I think I am going to have shares in his practice soon. Well theres my second income. Shame I dont get to see anything from it tho.. Hahaha.

Anyway V's having another whinge so better go see if she is ok. hugs all
