girls wanted to share -
today i am trying something new
i am doing the feed play sleep routine but to a max of 1 hr for feed/play
i would
feed (15 min)
burp/change nappy (5min)
feed (15 min)
burp (5min)
Play (20 min)
swaddle and put down for sleep toself settle
so far so good!
830-1130 slept and then i have put him down at 1230 again.... and he is settling so far!
p.s huggies bulk nappies at kmart $29.95!
Rough night here last night, lots of wind and tummy pain :( ended up sticking her in the bath at 11pm so that helped but I am stuffed after 2 bad nights. However a few glasses of Coca cola later and of course the trip for the dreaded shots I think I can string a sentence together.
Bethany went well too. Cried with the needles but fell asleep soon after. Infact we had to wake her up with a needle to have the drops. So instead of the drops first then 2 needles she had needles drops needles. I told her that for being such a good girl she can spend the day on the lounge with me watching Anne of Green Gables....I am not sure who that is rewarding actullay. So far so good, just a bit red on her little legs.
She stired before and I changed her but she wasn't really interested in her bottle. She'll eat when she is hungry we are inside in the cool but if she hasn't had anything in a bit I will try and get some fluids in to her even if it is just water. Aww the little possum is sleeping again.
Must organise the christmas card list and gifts today...I need to know what I am doing...Did the little postcard thing of Bethany's christmas shots, very cute even if I did it all myself at home, I should try and scan it in so you can see it too.
Brain and fingers aren't working together and this is hard work so back to Anne I go but I will come back later...

should have shared the kmart info earlier, DH works there we knew on monday they would go on sale today...oopps...will keep all the lovely BB ladies informed of Kmart sales from now on! Clothes are marked down too. 0000-16 kids, 30 odd percent I think...

PP - I have used that with all my kids - it's good for them to learn what comes next, helps them settle so much better. I would also add - if wake after only 1 sleep cycle to keep trying to resettle in cot/bassinette until they have been there for a minimum of 1 hr. SOunds tough, but after a couple of goes they get to predict you will come in and pat/dummy/touch/ssshhh (whatever you do) and then they have to go back to sleep again. If they just look up at you and are not crying, I don't get them up, tell them still sleep time and walk out. Doesn't work for all of course!
Zander seems to give this little 3 second cry/talk when he has had enough awake time - it's like he is saying - wrap me up, I'm tired and want some sleep - it's not continuous - unless I don't catch it and don't respond quickly enough.
The only time I find it is hard to get it to work is late arvo, but then that time of day is ok if the day has gone well :)
His awake time limit is around 1hr - 1hr15 at the moment. Of course when we are out it tends to stretch a bit more, but you can see he just wants to go to sleep - especially on school drop offs if I don't time it with his awake time his little eyelids just wanna close getting dragged in and out of the car.

Itsme - sounds your needles went well too! I didn't get any further reaction with X, but I did check his temp just to be sure.
We just got back from the osteo... Xander has loosened up (he was tight all down one side, thought to be not helping with BF'ing and his snorting) so that was good.
I just had naughty lunch on the way home ... KFC chippies and softdrink... mm yum. Then I was thinking right I should eat something healthy now i"m back. I look in the freezer and see the mini-magnum's i bought. Ooooh! I figure DH has mini-me in Xander... so Mum needs a mini-something too right? I think i'm scared my GTT will be positive so I'm putting off having it, and keep eating junky in case I can't anymore. hmm probably not the healthiest way to do things! Have ta get back to the Wii Fit.
To those with DH's with man-flu... lol aren't they just hopeless!
Anyway time for me to express! Or as DH says "pump it hottie".

(just to reasuure I haven't plonked her in front of the telly!! She is actually looking out the window but she can hear it in the background!)

Yesterday it took from 4:30pm to 10:30pm to settle Mia. She was not a happy little chappy and the bad mother that i am i have no idea why. Im thinking it may have been wind mixed with being overtired. Getting some of that Infacol u all rave about today.
anyway no personals.. got housework to do as shes just gone down for a sleep.

Hear hear - you are NOT a bad mum! Neither of you are! And Infacol is truly the best thing on this sweet earth. It may be that I have lost my sense of perspective... but honestly it is SO worth trying it if your sweet child suddenly turns into a grizzling nightmare. Or if your grizzling unsettled nightmare of a sweet child has always been unsettled. Or if you want to. Ok I'm waffling now. Must go wrap some more pressies :lol:

I have been watching Anne and wrapping pressies, and finishing thank you notes, and getting photos ready to post to distant relatives...I feel a sense of accomplishment!! Put Anne on you can do anything with Anne :) Had to fast forward Matthew's death, still too post natal to watch that! LOL
Did you know you can have the soundtrack? I downloaded it from a friend, I can enjoy the music whenever I want, I am going to use it tonight for Bethany's sleeping music!! Or would that be brainwashing?? mmmm
Poor Maya's a little grizzly now and keeps wanting to be attached to my boobs. I checked her temp and it's normal, so maybe she's just sore or feeling unwell.

thanks girls. It just gets to them times where im like "omg i just cant do this anymore". Lastnight i ended up going outside and closing the door so i couldnt hear her. I only left her for about a minute but i needed a breather. I then went back into her, gave her cuddles and tried to get her to sleep again. It was like a merry go round!
but.... today has been very successful so far. I think i have worked out a routine. As her feeds were coming around the same time, im sticking with that. She feeds 10:30am, 2:30pm, 6:30pm, 10:30pm, 2:30am (she usually sleeps through this one) and 6:30am. Hopefully we can stick with that. Today it has been successful so fingers crossed!

Hollye: Jude has a sort of routine, too. He likes to be fed around 2am, 7am, 10am, 1pm, 4pm, 7pm, 9pm. I just realised that's 7 feeds a day, no wonder I feel literally drained. I wish i could convince him to drop a feed.
I'm thinking of trying this infacol. I don't have any baby meds in the house, I'm not sure I'm the best person to diagnose what Jude needs, but he has been crying and screaming today from around 11am and hasn't slept much or for very long stretches. He's in bed now, please let him stay asleep for a while.

Belfie: You have 2 lovely names, your real name and your nickname. Both suit you perfectly but I like Belfie because it sounds like belfry as in "bats in the ..."
PP: Anne is Anne of Green Gables. I think I've seen it but 'The Princess Bride' is my go-to movie when I need to relax. I only own it on VHS, I need it on DVD.
Maya has now been sleeping a lot during the day - an effect of the immunisations I assume. I don't know whether to wake her or not for a feed. I don't think she's eaten enough today but maybe she needs the sleep?!? Any suggestions??
Though I must say it is kinda nice having her sleep in the afternoon and into the evening for once! :D
Hollye - I've noticed Maya is in a routine with her feeds now too. Although it still can vary on some days. I had a look at the new Mia pics. She is so adorable! :) I keep thinking how funny it is because our second choice of name was Mia and second name would have been Anne! We nearly named our daughter exactly the same! :D
PP - They are talking about Anne of Green Gables. How's the routine going?
Itsme - If it were me, I'd let her sleep - she'll probably just want a huge feed when she does wake. X slept for longer than usual after his immunisations and seemed to be just fine when he woke, and slept well that night also.

Giselle has her christmas concert (read : 3 songs) at child care tomorrow arvo - she doesn't go on Fridays but I will still pick Riley up from school and we will go so she can be in it - how cute!

kuraiza - don't you have any paracetomol in the house for bubs? If nothing else, I would definitely recommend it. I remember I had nothing and then the first night Riley was around 3 months and cried from 10pm till morning (so it felt - it was ears) - oh to have had some paracetomol that night! Another good one to buy and just put away is Bonjela cos when they start teething it happens just out of the blue and it can provide them with some relief.
Personally I don't buy Panadol I buy the Dymadon - my other two chucked up panadol - I think cos its a runny type liquid in those awful strawberry vanilla or something flavours LOL. My kids have taken the Dymadon one (orange flavour and much pleasanter smelling if you spill some on your clothes, or they puke later in your hair) :rofl: Same ingredients, just presented differentl.
Just put Z to bed, he was so tired tonight - unlikely to see him again until the early hours I would think ... hope .... pray .... :)
Bethany doing marathon sleeps too, just the affect of the jabs I think.

Maya woke up about 5 mins after I asked whether I should wake her or not! :lol: So she's now had a good feed, a bit of play and is in bed again - hopefully for the night!

well I would only give panadol if I knew he was in pain, and I never know what's wrong with him when he cries ... I don't want to give him anything if that's not what he needs.
no shots tomoro. last minute plan to go mums tonight cos pest control guy comin in morning...was originally goin tomoro but...im madly packin n it seems like im packin my whole room *sigh* all dragon's stuf not mine!!
anywyz photos went alright today, he was awake for the whole time! he was a bit grumpy at one stage but a quick snack fix it up :) cant wait to get the prints hehe
this weekend's gonna b an interestin one. Not goin to b with dp for a few days (overseas doesnt count), goin to b away frm dragon for a long stretch :( (not lookin forward to it but hav to help friend out at their shop) & stayin at mums (not lookin forward to it either cos my stepdads a a**hole)

I wasn't implying to dose him up - just that it is reasonable to have paracetomol in the cupboard just in case. Trust your instincts, you will know if he was in pain when crying. Crying is the only way babies can get all their tension and stuff out at this age.

Hope the immunised bubbies have a good sleep. True to what I thought, Zander was out for the count until 2.10am ... back in bed, and me too ..... :asleep:
I guess I don't have these instincts. Everyone keeps telling me "you would know, you're his mother." but the fact is I have no idea why he's crying or if he's in pain / is hungry / has wind / reflux / colic.
I have absolutely no idea.
Oh my new name got approved! When I first tried signing up I'd tried Tanya but that was taken and I tried using Tanya with the first letter of my surname and that was taken and I tried Tan (which is what my friends often call me) and that was taken! So I gave up and tried Itsme! I'd never thought to try my name with some other characters before. Although now it'll be weird for me and everyone else to get used to my new name!
Well, Maya slept from 8.30pm till 4am! Then 5am till 8am. She's never slept that much at night before. Now she's back to her normal (not wanting to sleep) self!
I'm going to the shops today to pick up Maya's photos and I want to get a couple of other things sorted. I packed the car up last night! So all I need now is Maya, myself and my bag! :)
kuraiza - Yeah I never know why Maya's crying either. I feel like I am constantly guessing. And it's annoying cos DH is always asking me - Why is she crying? Is she hungry? Sleepy? And I just respond with "I don't know!" :dunno:

Girls I bet you do know what your bubs are crying for, you just feel as though you don't. It's a hard gig been a mother, there is no manual to tell what is going on and what to do to fix it. Babies sometimes just cry and if you've checked them for everything else then they are just been grissly. I also think that if someone else was holding your bub and they started to cry you would be saying "oh they need a feed/change/are tired". You are doing great and don't doubt the mummy super powers we all have in knowing what is wrong or needed.

I'm just waiting for Z to wake up and demand a feed - I fed him at 7.15am so should be soon! I can tell my milk has finally adjusted too cos I don't feel like I am gunna explode, just a little full.

Amanda - LOL - I stay up for 10 minutes after I put him down to make sure he is happy to go to sleep ... otherwise I just get snug in bed and he calls out for quick pat and that annoys me more :)

No Amanda, I really don't know. I never ever know. I try to settle him until it's been atleast 2 hours since his last feed and then I feed him and that often doesn't make him happier because I don't have a clue.

Sami - Yeah I'm waiting for Maya to wake up so I can feed her and then I'll head to the shops. It's the only time of the day when she'll have a nap! :rolleyes: I've been trying to get stuff done during her nap time - like pay all the bills! Oh and my DH is the opposite - he'll hang on to Maya while she's crying and keep trying to settle her because he wants to be able to settle her "without my boobs" as he puts it! :lol: And I did get some sleep - but I went to bed at 11pm cos I was so sure she'd wake for another feed! Also I just can't really get to sleep much earlier than that anyway - even when I am absolutely exhausted! :( And it takes me an hour to get to sleep. So overall I probably only got about 6 hours sleep. :( The other night my DH said that I need to try the settling techniques on myself! :rofl:
I am not sure how long I have to type this...Dreadful night with Bethany. She had a temp and must have felt unwell cause she just wanted to be held poor little possum. She's been sound asleep in my arms for about 30mins and I just put her down so we will see what happens. After 3 shocking nights though I feel like death warmed over. (I am sure you all understand that feeling!) Anyway to top it all off my DH who is usually so wonderful has tapped in to his inner man....conversation had this morning at around 2 am...
Him: I am calling work in the morning and taking the day off...I am too tried....
Me: (rocking bethany trying to sooth her) Ohh but you have been asleep on and off all night that is more than me (or bethany for that matter!!) (also he had sleep all the other nights before too!!)
Him: but then I can help you...
Me: oh ok so do you want to take her for a bit now so I can have a break
Him: mmmm (Drifting back to sleep.....snore sounds)
Currently he is sleeping in bed and I am out in the lounge with the little one. Gee wizz. Granted he did get up at 7 and call work and took her out with him and I got to sleep from 7-9.30. the most consecutive sleep in 3 days!!
I feel bad whinging about it but I can't call in sick or take a day off. I still have to get up each day no matter how bad the night and care for her and do all the house stuff and take him to work etc. Don't get me wrong I love my stay at home mum job wouldn't change it for the world!! Just can't get man logic sometimes! I bet he will be rested enough to play computer later while I am feeding her, getting dinner and all that. Or it will be the typical, "I'll do it in a sec" how long is a man second by the way is a a measure of time at all? Or "I will get her when I finish this" yeah no worries I will just explain to the 8 week old that daddy will be there when he is ready and could she just calmly wait till then. So I end up doing it and then whatever I was doing gets put off and so on I am sure all of you have had the same situation. I just need to vent. Very cranky today. Have a psychcolgist app later should be fun I reckon I can cry through the whole hour.
Well she is staying asleep for the time being so I am going to get some stuff done.
I'll pop in and out, need other mums today to keep sanity!

He's home, so use him wisely! After you feed Bethany, take her to your hubby and dump her in his arms then leave the house, or just go to bed. But I know what you mean.
oh Kuraiza i did that the other day. DP got home from work at 4:30pm and Mia was fed and all ready. I said ok im going out now, have fun and if im not home by 8pm she needs another feed. lol. Mind u i was back by 6pm and Mia was screaming the house down. That was that night she screamed for 6 hours straight. Oh i dont think DP is going to let me go anywhere anymore.
DP also says "why is she crying?" "why isnt she sleeping" "is she hungry" etc etc etc. I just relply with "she a baby, thats what they do"
I am sure I hear an echo in our household :rofl::

Admission - tomorrow morning is the first time I will be "going out" (hairdressers no where too fancy) where I am leaving everyone at home and DH with an EBM bottle. Zander doesn't take bottles very well so I am a bit nervous which is dumb. Appt at 9 so I will probably try and feed him again at 8.15ish anyway - and will probably be home by 11.30, so won't need it I bet. But still, first time he will be home with all three for more than an hour .......
well....last night was interesting....
Jack was the best yesturday he has ever been :0 slept like a drem...then come 10pm feed he drank 80mls then decided to scream like a banshee!! i finally got him to sleep then he slept for abit woke and screamed some more... then got him to sleep for the night after 11pm :) woke him at 6.15am this morning..fed him played til after 7 and he went back to sleep til 9.30am.... woke him and fed him at 10am...went out christmas shopping and had his santa piccie done (not the best!!)then he decided to scream ALL the way home...which frazzled me even more whilst driving... he is now in my arms asleep... and due for a feed at 2 and i have a drs appointment at 3.
I have not done a thing around the house today...oh well :(

Well i just spent 3 hrs at the shops in toysrus and kmart toy isle shopping for the kids (my brother was downand wanted to buy toys).
Exhausted! then drove for 1.5 hrs across the city picking things up and dropping him off.
so DS didnt get a feed from 8am -130pm! poor thing. now he is exhausted from waiting for a feed and DD had a 10 minute powernap in the car so she thinks she doesnt need her usual 3 hrs afternoon nap! great!
i finally get him for a good sleep and she is awake... never a chance hey!
well i had my 6 week check up (just a tad late :D) Dr says i have slight PND... BUT other than that all is good!!!
Got jack weighed whilst we were there...5.8kgs :D
Xander has eczema :( Just took him to the doc after weeks of people telling me that all babies have dry skin... we've been using all the paediatrician recommended stuff (i.e. QV oil, Dermeze, Dermaveen) and his skin has just been getting dryer, redder, scalier etc... poor little man. His face looks SO sore at the moment, bright red & dry as a desert. So we've got some prescription drugs to help get it to settle and if it continues to be an issue then I might need to look at an elimination diet to see if that helps. Unfortunately DH has eczema/dermatitis and is sensitive to milk protein.. so there's a likely link with Xander's eczema and my diet. For those who remember my dietary joys during PG (fructose malabsorption + GD + PG stuff).. you'll know that my thoughts about dietary restrictions are... NOOOOOOOOOooooooooooooooooo!
So I'm having a little wallow tonight :wall::wall::wall: and then tomorrow i'm going to be hopping on the healthy wagon to see if that helps things. Grrrmph.

Sami: I have no qualms going out without Jude, I would never get anywhere if I had to take him with me. I really need my husband's help to go anywhere with Jude, I just can't cope.
My husband took me and Jude shopping this arvo and we bought a basic $40 bouncer at target. I just popped Jude in, he seems somewhat soothed. He's hiccuping and making it bounce. He was having a good cry until he got in his bouncer.
I think Jude has reflux. That's the only explanation I can think of for his constant screaming soothed only while he's feeding, but straight after he's screaming at me again. I read the belly belly article and it made me say "ahhhh". He's much happier being slightly upright.
Belfie: I understand. If Jude has reflux and I'm not allowed to eat chocolate or anything fun, I'll die a little.
I feel for you hun - my DS1 had it patchy all over as a baby/toddler and still on backs of his knees and elbows, DD had it on her cheeks as a baby and now still has it bad on backs of her knees and wherever else she gets really dry, she scratches it in her sleep till it bleeds sometimes. SO far Zander has escaped it, no sign, we cant believe it, but we figure we deserve a break this time around.
Our family histories include eczema, asthma, psoriasis, anaphylactic nut reaction ( DS1 has this too), hayfever - so we have to be extra careful introducing things into diet when going onto solids.
I hope it just stays at eczema for you - only on face, not on rest of body??
We use Hamiltons oil in the bath, Dermaveen or Alphakeri lotion for moisturiser - Zander has never had any soap products or and Johnson's stuff just in case - all that baby packaged stuff is just good marketing ;)
