Hi all
Shocker of a night. After feeding him at 10.30pm and him settling really well, he was up at 2am. Thats ok, except he didn't go back to sleep until about 6.30am. We wasn't screaming, in pain or anything like that just alert and wouldn't settle. After having the eureka moment a few nights ago about temperature, totaly forgot about it, but again when I put him in bed with us he went to sleep. Things u forget when sleep deprived.
Ursula - glad u are feeling much better.
Nic - agree with what everyone else says. Must have been a tough decision to make but in the end u need to do what is best for the both of you and if that is FF or bottle feeding EBM then do it. Looks like u have an escape artist on ur hands. Makes me think about our situation. We live on a fairly busy road, if L wanders out onto the road he would be killed for sure. We take a lot of precautions even with our dogs to ensure they never get near the road. DH actually had his neck broken when he was 2 years old as he was hit by a car after he ran out onto the road. We are very lucky to have both DH and therefore L with us.
Star - poor Mateo. U must have been beside yourself. Luckily L doesn't suffer badly from wind, but I can only imagine how upsetting it would be for both of you. At least now you have a strategy to deal with it.
Vax - yes, L will have his. Problem tho he will be 8 weeks over Xmas period. Will need to ask the MCHN what we should do. Did everyone go to their GP, the MCHN, the Council to have them done?
Oh, L is definitely smiling. Will get on and update my signature. Wasn't sure he was at first but you can tell as his eyes are also smiling. So cute, it melts my heart.
Hi to everyone else. Too many posts to respond to. Have a good day all.
Vax- still havn't had them done. Believe i should for the 'greater good" etc. But not satisfied as yet with the research i have been doing. Will keep reading.............
Q for BF'ers- How long does it take to feed your baby now? Lu is down to about 5min each side....... seems so quick.
Hope you had a stiff drink after you found Nix, nickers. Would have scared the crap out of you i bet.
Kim- sounds good.
Amber- Nice sleeping myles! "who-da-man?!"
Viv- on the spots. are they hot? if it is mastitis, i have also heard best to get ontop of it straight away. Can be nasty.
Ursula- yay for avoiding hospital, glad you are on the road to recovery.
Off for a walk.................
Saffi - I go to my GP as he bulk bills for vax and takes an appointment. But the MCHN should be able to give you a sheet that lists the vax clinics they have running. I asked my MCHN if it was 8 weeks OR 2 months and she said 2 months. A will be 5 days past 2 months when we get them done, she is booked in for the 17th Dec.
Ange - yeah Amara is getting fast on the boob too. But still only having one side 90% of the time.
Viv - if you have mastitis don't muck around it can be shocking. if you get a fever or anything head of to Louis straight away. If you are looking for natural remedy Poke Root is fabulous.
Kim we can meet at the front of the Cafe, Phil & I will probably grab something for lunch there :)
Kim do you need directions or did it come up on the GPS?
It's thundering & pouring rain down our way today, feels good to have a cool change with rain.
Vax-yep Maddi will have all her's.
Ursula-Glad you starting to feel better, nice to see you posting again :D
Got a new ticker. Got a photo of Tiera smiling... At last, it's only taken close to 3 weeks to get it! lol
Also got her a totsite Totsites - Tiera May
off to doc this arv
Nic - that must have scared the life out of you! I'm sure it will happen to all of us at some stage - shame on your neighbour for just standing there! What's that about! BF - You did a grand job! FANTASTIC!
Viv - Hope it's not mastitis but if it is, fingers crossed it doesn't give you any trouble.
Ursula - Glad you're feeling a little better.
Amber - Harry drains a side in record time but if he wants to comfort suck in the evenings, he can be on there for quite some time. Seems to depend on how much stimulation he's had that day.
Vax - I'm honesty not sure. I don't want to. I've still got research to do one it. Better pull my finger out as he's 8 weeks on Saturday. Thing is it's such a white/black subject - can anyone point me in the direction of evidence based research. The anti vaccination people just scare me and I don't belive the gov propoganda info!
Emily is sick with tonsililtis - her temp hit 40 at 1.30am and I called out the doc as she'd just spewed up the dose of nurofen I'd given her. Poor little love, there we all were sitting up at 4am watching The Secret - has anyone seen it?
Watched Kenny the other night - OMG I was in stitches, really funny stuff!
Better dash both the kids have woken up at the same time!!
Kim - We must have very similar taste in names! Chels was gonna be Aiden if she was a boy too, but me too, Im kinda off it now as well! LOL
I will definately be getting vacs. Liam has never had a problem with them, and for a few seconds of pain etc, I believe the positives far out-weigh the negatives! (Much like my view on circumcision!)
Is everyone back to DTD yet? Believe it or not we still havent!!! Reason: I waited till I stopped bleeding, and then had to wait until I got my Implanon put in! Then, the day that was put in, I got AF! GRRRRRRR!!! Not happy! So soon..........
Viv - Why was it that you hated Implanon again? I have found so far since I had it in, that I have had a headache EVERY day! I dont know if its related or something else?
Thanks for kind words about Mateo everyone - it seems after three days of Infacol I have a different little baby. He is so content - today has been the loveliest day and I even got to exercise! Yey! It felt so good - went for a massive walk and Mateo slept the whole time - was great. I have lost 9kg and have got 7kg to go. *sigh* Feels like my body will never be the same again!
Trish - you have the most placid baby in the whole world! I am still feeding every three hours all day and night - sometimes I am lucky to get in four but NEVER more than that! Mateo is a big greedy guts!
Viv - If you're a bad Mum that makes two fo us, Mateo is in the swing at the moment. :-) We got it on Friday and if that's not the greatest invention in the world I don't know what is. Good Luck at the Doc's - I really hope it is not mastitis.
Clare - Hope Emily is feeling better soon.
Nickers - What a scare and what a stupid neighbour!
Ursula - thanks for the tips but Mateo is BF. The Infacol really seems to be helping him.
Amber - Thanks for your number. Looking forward to seeing you and the gorgeous, bright blue-eyed Myles again soon.
Saffi - Glad to hear I'm not the only one having sleepless nights!! :-)
Well, tried Mateo on Formula last night and he spat it and cried - he hated it! Looks like I'm still doing the midnight feed!! :-)
Poor Emily Claire, i hope she starts to get better soon. Did anyone go thismorning?
Nixon has a real snotty nose, not too bad during the day but come 5pm the last 2 nights he has gotten a lot worse and very clingy and upset. I had a migrane on Sat night which lead into yesterday, ive never had one b4 so wasnt sure but my god it was bad.
Now dh has come home from work today sick, ofcourse he is the sickest of all!!
Hey! So has everyoneone got their SS pressie yet? And what did you get???
Hi again everyone!
We had a great time at the mum's group reunion. Kieran was awake when we got there and just dozed off in his pram and slept the whole hour and a half we were there! It was absolute bliss, I could have a coffee and a chat with my hands free! He is such an angel. Joel NEVER slept in his pram and would scream if he was in it so it is awesome to have a baby who likes his pram :) .
Ange - Wow, another wedding! How many will you have been to in total? It must be exhausting. Thanks for calling my boy a spunk!
Viv - Hope you don't have mastitis.
Tiff - Wow, your friends stayed over for a long time! I would have been trying to get them to leave, I get so tired by that time of night ATM! Love your ticker pic!
Ursula - Glad to hear you are on the mend.
Nic - How scary for you!! I would have totally freaked out. One time Joel was playing out the back and after a while our dog barked at the back door telling me that Joel was gone (he is a smart dog and I understand his barks!), I said "where is Joel?" and he ran to the side fence between our neighbour's front yard and ours. Turns out Joel climbed the fence to talk to our neighbour (he always does) and the neighbour lifted him over and took him inside with his wife and gave him a biscuit. All without telling me! I wasn't too impressed, but our neighbours are great friends of ours so I forgave them. I understand that feeling of dread when you don't know where they are though!
Saffi - Hope you have a better night tonight!
Claire - Sorry Emily is so sick, I hope she gets better soon.
Star - Yay for the Infacol working! IKWYM about having a new baby, that's exactly what we said when we started using it.
Hi everyone! Its been a few days since I managed to get on here but wow you guys have been chatty! There were lots of things that were said/asked that I would like to answer but hey its a bit beyond that now.
Star - We started Caitlyn on Infacol - she is FF fed - and now it seems it doesnt work as well as what it did in the beginning. I am not saying that Mateo will be the same but I guess it is something that you can keep in the back of your mind
To those with "all-night sleepers - Oh you lucky things! I WISH Caitlyn would sleep for longer than what she does. Last night was 1030, 230, 4 and then she didnt go to sleep until 11! Made for one cranky a$$ baby and mummy!
We are beginning to think AGAIN that the poor little thing does have reflux. Will see the Dr again soon to see what he thinks. She was spitting up a lot of her feed and we changed the size of the teat back down and that seemed to solve the problem. But yesterday it started again. And it seems to bother her - wakes her up! So I think I will give her some Gavison the next feed and if that works then I might try that Novolac anti-colic formula that someone suggested earlier.
We seem to have a really grumpy baby tho - very rarely smiles. We bought a HAB and of course - she doesnt like it! Little so and so.
Well loooks like I am due for a storm any minute now. VERY VERY windy! Finally a bit of relief from the stifling heat and maybe I can get a bit of a lawn back - or at least a little bit of green in the back yard.
Have a good day and night all!
Nickers - that must have been horrible! I can't believe the neighbour didn't help you out
vaccinations - Tahlia will be having all of them
Pish - great pic in the ticker! Cute photos on the website too
Ange - it still takes me anywhere from 15 minutes to 40 minutes to feed Tahlia.. depends how awake and how hungry she is, and how long its been since the last feed. 5 minutes on each side sounds pretty good!
Viv - how did you go at the docs?
Star - can you express so that DH can still do the midnight feed?
I had my ob appointment today - said all is healing well, but I can't go back to the gym for another 3 weeks! Not fair!
Hello!
Well vax went well! I held it together pretty well, He cried a little but was ok! He is fine now! I would rather he be vax than catch something, especially when we start to travel again!
I feel like a new woman just had my hair done so Im not grey anymore yay!!!!!!!
Thought I better change my ticker but had trouble working out how to make the pic fit:) So now there is a smiling one!
Have to go! Hope your all well! And hugs to all the bubs especailly those who have been abit upset lately!:) xo
LOL Becky...we def have good taste in names!!
As for DTD....hmm i must be a rabbit....at it like nothing else..Craig is loving it....so ooooover condoms tho...best get used to em tho.
Mo meeting out the front of cafe 1230 sounds good. Craig and i probably will get some lunch when we all meet up if thats ok...??
No AF for me yet....so im happy bout that.....i dont think it means pg just yet?? LOL....
I hate vac's....Chels is due for 12 month ones and im dreading it....Jas due in 3 weeks and wanting time to slow down!
Amber glad ur loving ur hair done! Im still waiting to get it done...one day!
I have received SS gifts but waiting til xmaz to open!!
Becky - I haven't DTD yet either.... I'm still bleeding ARRRRR!!!! I have my 6 week check up next Tues so once I have the all clear and everything has stopped we'll be back into it. I was REALLY scared at the thought of getting back into things (I hate pain and I'm pretty sure it will hurt?), but Im not nearly as scared now... Even looking forward to it! lol sorry if TMI! :D
Trish - Glad to hear you had a good day. Your feeling human and having fun!!!! Things are getting back to normal for you!!! ;)
Kim - Have added you to face book and I love your wedding photo! It is stunning. You gave me inspiration... I have now added photos of our wedding.
Tiera has not had a great day today. She has been a bit wingey . I got her to have a half an hr nap this afternoon, which she wont up crying her little eyes out, gave her a feed and she's been sleeping since. Only just woke up and is nice and settled. Don't know what was going on, think it may have been wind as she's been a bit of a trumpet bum today! lol
POOO Viv! I hope you don't have an infection!! Everytime i experience pain I freak out I have mastitis again!
If we had a boy, we probably wouldn't have had him snipped - just for the sake that I don't have any real reasoning for having it done, and on the same note I don't have anything really against it. If Danny wanted to get him done, I wouldn't object - but Danny is quite against it. My parents had the same outlook when my brother was born... When he went through puberty he told our folks that he wanted it done (just out of the blue). They tried many Drs and they wouldn't do it because of his age - so my parents took us on a vacation overseas to have him done. He was in a great deal of pain afterwards and walked around very akwardly... In my opinion - after watching him go through that, I think I'd rather have it done when they are infants opposed to being older and fully developed. But it's each to their own.
Trip took 15 and half hours, we left at 4.30 on Sunday morning. Rochelle was an absolute champ... She slept the whole way, but we woke her every three hours for her feeds - was a bit grizzley when we got passed Rocky so we pulled over and soon as we took her out of her seat she burped and went straight back to sleep. When we got to Mackay - we sat under a shady tree and had a play and some nappy off time - she loved the breeze blowing on her nudey bottom! When we got here, she fed and then straight to sleep again until about 3.30am and then just after 6am. Her Granddaddy just loves her and wants to keep holding her even though I insist that she sleep in her crib. Dad and Mum both fight over whos turn it is and they were arguing who was going to push the pram when we went out to lunch today... I think Ro's Daddy is feeling a bit left out - his missing being able to cuddle his baby without interruption! We are going to go and get one of those inflatable kiddy pools so Ro and I can have a little paddle! :)
Hope everyone is well... Sorry no personals - Going to go watch a video with the family!
ETA - Ange, I've been worried Rochelle hasn't been spending enough time on the boob lately... She isn't on there as long as she usually is! Now I think of it, maybe she is just getting more efficient at emptying the breast!
Catherine - was probably posted somewhere but I must have missed it - where on earth did you drive to?? 15 hours is HUGE and I thought 8 was horrible!
Thanks Tiff....ill have to check out ur pics now!!
Jasmine IS NOT a travelling baby... so out VIC to NSW trips are not fun....nor was the trip from mums to the IL's....im dreading the drive home already. Jasmine and Chelsea are opposite babies in every department.
Leah....we still on for tmrw?? Ill PM you as well incase you miss this post
Gold Coast to Moranbah via Mackay... It actually went really quick! Probably cause I slept most of the way... hehehe! But even Danny said it went really quick... he also said I gave the cars on the motorway a good look at my tonsills and dribble down the side of my face! Gaww... how embarrassing!
lol cath, your like me!!!
dtd, hell yes!!! and i was terrified it would hurt, the intercourse didnt hurt but the pain in my pelvis after did. must have been still getting back to normal.
Phil & i will till you guys get there to eat then :D
How long did the trip take Kim?
The drive home always feels alot quicker, so it might not be as bad :)
Wow you lot have written a lot today.
Thanks for the advice to all those who wrote to me about bubby's constipation. I am sure it is constipation as he makes pushing noises for a long time and cries until it comes out (sometimes for hours). We do give him some boiled water. Sometimes few drops of prune juice too (docs suggestion). Today I reduced the thickener. I only give him half a scoop and that seems to have done the trick.
Liz - I am using normal terry flats. What are modern cloth nappies? Never heard of them.
So far so good with the cloth nappies. No leaking today but I am finding it hard when Ethan has a sleep. Now that he is settled more he is sleeping a lot (he lost so much sleep in the last 6 weeks when he was upset all the time). I don't want to wake him up to change him but I know the nappy will leak if I wait until his next feed. Today every time he woke up and made noise between sleep cycles I changed his nappy and put him back to bed. He didn't seem to mind this. Boy does he wee a lot. I had no idea with the disposable nappies.
Called for an appointment with the paed today. He can't see us until the 25th Jan. How annoying. Oh well now that Ethan is settled I'm not so worried. Just want him to check to make sure he is ok and find out if he is lactose intolerant.
Mo yeah we can all eat together. I do need some directions please!!!!! The trip to mums took 10 hours....stopping 4 times cos Jasmine was screaming. The trip to Newcastle took 4 hours, again cos Jas was screaming. We were considering the girls and I fly home but i said no.
Alz glad to hear the bottles are going better now and Ethan has settled.
Alz- there is a whole other world out there when it comes to MCN! Leah is awsome at pointing new cloth nappy-ers in the right direction. ;) There is a section on BB where you can ask loads of questions and get advice about different nappies. Glad Ethan is more settled for you.
Ro- Nice travelling love! How embarrasing, your mumma dribbling all over the place! :p
Mo- i'll join you for lunch too. :D
DTD- definately painful and not that enjoyable, hoping things will improve, either that or i am getting DH a membership to the local Adult video store! rofl
Viv- how'd doc's go?
Dang Ange on DTD being painful! I still haven't tried it even with Daniel's persistant nagging... I will build up the courage oneday... Can't rush perfection ;) As Rochelle taught me awaiting her arrival...
Breast feeding TJ- anywhere from 10-30 minutes EACH SIDE, and he takes both sides pretty much every time...piggy grunter!
Vax- will all be done according to the schedule, same as with my older son.
Circ- not for us, neither passionatly for or against, just don't really see the point for us
DTD- twice, once because I just wanted to get the fear aspect out of my head...it sucked! The second time was nicer, but it's not exactly number one on my list of priorites right now.
it takes me in total about 35-45minutes to feed incl. burp and nappy change in between to wake the lil bugger up:)
brisbane girls, should we make the meet up somewhere other than the cinemas this time??? from memory they are far away.
how bout maybe big w or david jones?? i dont know where they would be but i know they are definatley there.??? any other ideas for people that know the center???
alz - I can't seem to PM you. So if you can send a PM to me I will point you in the direction of some nappies that will blow your mind! LOL!
Claire - I could not find and REAL evidence based literature either for or against vax. Both sides seemed whacked to me.
Night,
Kate - Yeah how about Big W then. I know the centre quite well and that is close to the middle! I also think there is a coffee shop just putside of it too??? Im easy though......
DTD- we have only done it twice so far, i didnt have a Vag delivery so was ok down there but its still a little weird doing to for the first time! as qhi said not on my top priority list atm lol!
Sunday morning MIL came over and minded the boys for a few hours while DH & i went jetskiing! I felt like a teenager, it was quiet funny! DH bought the jetski a few months ago. to get ur license u need ur boat lic first. i got that but havent got the jetski one as i had Tyron in between! So i couldnt drive it but held on for dear life on the back!
For anyone who knows Sydney we went in at Picnic point (georges river) and rode all the way around to Brighton le Sands (by then i needed a toilet stop!) then through into Sylvania Waters where we met some fellow jetski friends, and back again.
It was fun but its not as fun being passenger, a few times DH did a friken 180 or turned real sharp when i wasnt ready for it!
i think this was the first time we have hd some "us" time since Tyron was born and it was really nice because it is sucha rarity these days.
Claire- mailing u the new newsletter and I'll ring u in a few days, couldnt get your stuff cause John said it would be put away and need to give him notice b4 picking it up. so unless u wanna go out there something this week i will pick it up for u next Mon night?
Ange great, i've been looking at the menu trying to decide what i'll feel like next week lol
Kim i Pm'ed you the directions, hope they make sense :)
I know what you mean about the trip, i wanted to catch the plane back home & maddi was pretty good during the trip.
Hope the trip home is better Kim :)
OOOOooo... LM!! Can you blow my mind with nappies too? I always want to do the MCN thing but honestly never know where to start because there are soooo many decisions! I see Ange's little sweetheart in the cutest MCN's... I want them toooo!
hi all
seems the little guy is pulling a ro stunt today and wants to be fed every hour and needs to be near me all the time. little naught hasn't slept more than 50 minutes since 5am. mummy is going to pieces in need of sleep.
luckily i have my sister over for a few days. she helps her friend out in their cafe a bit, so she's been making us full-on cafe meals. YAY :confetti: no cooking and thinking for me!
saw louis yesterday. he suspects blocked ducts and because i don't feel carp yet, that it's not masty. he gave me a script anyway in case i suddenly end up with a temp in the night or any of the other nasty symptoms.
maybe james knows he's supposed to help me keep it drained - wouldn't that be spooky/boogedy if he knew that? right now i'm doing the bassinet rocking with foot trick and he grunts until i look at him. i wish he'd do a nice 4 hour sleep so i can too. sis is off checking out the gold coast beaches... house to self...
i bought a medela pump yesterday to finish off whatever he can't in that boob. i do need some help with the whole bottle thing before i try feeding it to him.
1) how do you dry whatever you've boiled sterilised?
2) do you sterilise them just before you give the bottle or do you store them? if so, where?
3) how do you warm the EBM if it's been in the fridge/freezer?
4) is it the same calculation for how much ebm they get as if you were doing formula?
hmm... all this makes BF look easy... step one... flop out boob... step two.. attach the little sucker ... step three... zone out.
he's just squawking every few seconds at me.. guess i'd better go.
sigh.
I'm glad there is no pain for you yet and I hope it's not yet to come!
1) how do you dry whatever you've boiled sterilised?I just let it dry on a fresh tea towel - it dries in a matter of seconds because the steam is so hot!
2) do you sterilise them just before you give the bottle or do you store them? if so, where?I have a special big container that all her sterilised stuff goes into.
3) how do you warm the EBM if it's been in the fridge/freezer?I fill a milkshake cup with hot water and pop the EBM milk in there.
4) is it the same calculation for how much ebm they get as if you were doing formula?
It is the same calculation but babies are allowed more BM if they want because the hormone in BM tells them when they are full and have had enough. That's what the LC told me anyway. Ro will usually take 20 mls more, sometimes more sometimes less.
Rochelle has settled down with that behaviour, so perhaps it was just a growth spurt? Perhaps James is going through one too? I thought I did read somewhere that babies do know they have to keep draining the breast when Mum's sick? IDK... I thought I read it, but can't remember where.
Hey guys,
can't really type cos i'm feeding, but just from reading the bottom of CL's post, if you are using EBM you don't need to sterilize anything, EBM is sterile in itself, you can just rinse out the stuff you use with tap water. i only found this out with DS once i had been doing it a few times... I've been told this my MCHN, LCs and GPs.
ok, i'll go read the rest of the thread..
just back quickly... (he went to sleep :confetti:)
thanks for the advice. i wondered... i will see if john wants to give him his first bottle... and see if the little cheeky monkey will actually take it.
LM Can you point me in the direction re MCN's too! I really want to get away from sposies but the terry flats just look too complicated for me (simple/sleep deprived mind and all that!)
Caitlyn had another good night last night. They seem to come right after the carp nights. Slept from 8 to 12 and then from 1245 to 4 but then up again at 6. STood my ground though and didnt feed her till 8. Am starting to think that I am feeding her just to shut her up and that shes not actually hungry. So trying to push her feeds out for 3.5 hours instead of 2. I put her down for a nap at 10 and shes still asleep after waking a few times and me letting her settle herself.
Tried the anti reflux formula last night - stupid me didnt read the directions and put room temp water in the bottle! The formula didnt disolve! Gotta be cold water Bec! LOL Doesnt matter anyway cause after such a long gap in feedings she doesnt seem to be sicking up so much. Maybe she knows when she is full now! FINALLY!!!
DTD - We tried once! OUCH! Have been a bit touchy ever since but will get up the nerve again soon. But - when on earth are we supposed to find time! He's at work all day, comes home and cooks dinner while I am feeding/changing/etc bub and then by the time we chill out a bit and watch TV its time for another feed/change etc and then I am completely buggered so I go to bed!
Vaccinations - definitely! I have worked in the medical industry for too long! Have seen what can happen if baby is not vaccinated and dont EVER want to put my child through that. I know there are side effects to the vacc's but, in my opinion, its better than weeks/months of discomfort/pain for my little one.
