Hi everyone,
Toby is another one that wont have a dummy or bottle, it is a bit annoying! I had the implanon put in this morning. I think we must be rabbits, we have DTD every 2/3 night at the moment since toby was 2.5 weeks! oh dear!
gotta go, catch up laters,
Bec
Afternoon all.
Didn't have sucha great night last night. Tiera fed at 7pm, I expressed at 10pm and she woke again at 11:45. I fed her, but she was really restless when I put her back to bed and was up and down with her until 2am, when I gave her the bottle I had expressed (my boobs hadn't yet refilled). In this time I got REALLY cranky. Not so much because she was restless, but because DH was the one that told me to get up and express, when if I had just gone to sleep (as I was exhausted) the night would have been much smoother and we all would have slept! I think I have have to do less listening and more doing what my body and my bub tells me. She then fed again at 5am and 8:15am which wasn't too bad, but I am tired today.
To top it all off my dogs got into a big fight this morning! We haven't had a fight in the back yard in 12months and after the last one I said I was going to get rid of the dog that seems to cause it all. So this afternoon DH's mate is taking my Auto for good. He's always been my baby, so it is so depressing I'm going to miss him like crazy. I have to do this as it is the safest thing for me, my other dogs and MOST of all, my daughter.
I do appologise for ne personals. I will be back on later, really needed to vent. No one to talk to here! :)
Oops, sorry, i forgot to come back and post afterwards.
I sounds like you are all doing such a fantastic job with your little ones.. Seriously, it does get sooo much easier.. i think it was around the 3 month mark that i just suddenly felt like i gelled with my son, i understood what he wanted, life didn't just seem to be about feeds and nappy changes and sleeps, and they were interacting a bit more!
But in the beginning it is so hard, when you just finish getting them to sleep and then its feed time again (maybe you get 5 mins for a cuppa in between that!)
You all sound like you are doing better than i was back then, i had one thing after another go wrong (one of the most painful feeding conditions lasting for months, along with one of the most painful backside conditions last for months, DH doing huge amounts of overtime at work, and my FIL was in hospital for 8 months very sick... he died in August that year).
Ok, there are so many ppl to do personals for, so i might just skip it, hope you understand.
in regards to dummies, Nuk are the only ones that both DS and DD liked in the beginning. I know Nuk weren't recommended by choice, the reason being that when you are using them at the end of their size (i.e. the 0-6 months ones at 6 months), the shields are on the small side and technically they can get them into their mouth, so i'm just using them now for a month or two, before we change over. With DS he didn't mind the change at that stage. DD is so small, and her face is little that the shiel part knocks her in the nose every time she sucks, so no wonder she doesn't like the other dummies.
DTD - still bleeding here, so that isn't happening. It is wierd, i had stopped bleeding by now with my son... infact the scary thing was at 1 week, my bleeding had stopped completely for a few days, and then i went to the loo, and it was pouring out of me for at least a minute... was supposed to go to the hospital, but i figured i wasn't bleeding to death so it would be ok. Needless to say, obs wasn't impressed when i called him a week later.
In fact, i'm beginning to feel a bit anaemic from the loss, maybe i should start back up with my iron tablets.
Tiff - i'm sorry you had to get rid of your dog.
Ange - thanks for the details of the melb meet up... I will try and make it, Wed is the best for me as my DS is in creche that day, and i hate having to chase him around everywhere whilst trying to look after DD. (he is a very active toddler!)
Ok, i got to run, i need to get nappies and a few other things, so better have lunch and then get the kids up from their naps.
Have a good day ladies.
This is a good place to start with some info on MCN.......
Help for New Users! - BellyBelly Forums ~ Pregnancy, Birth & Baby
Other places for info-
* Ozclothnappies website
* Nappycino website
* Cloth nappy general chatter on here. i am forever asking qn's in the cloth nappy thread on here. The girls are really helpful.
It can seem quite overwhelming to begin with, until you see some IRL i think.
Leah- you are so right about it being hard to find any unbiased info on vax.....certainly no peer reviewded articles.
Pish- bummer about the dog.
Expressing seems like alot of work. have been meaning to get around to it too, might go fish out the milking machine now......
ETA- see how you go yael, be great to meet you. :D
Aww thanks Ange - I forgot that you've become a bit of a guru on MCN's!
Thanks for the info Leah - just going to check message now!
no guru , just have a fairly serious addiction! ROFL :p
Oohh.. Ange, if i do come, maybe you can explain all about MCNs to me in person
I've tried reading it all, but i just can't get my head around all the different options
Was planing on moving over once DD is out of newborn size nappies... I think i like AIOs the most (really need the most simplest thing if DH is going to do it, and worried that if i have covers and all that then it might get to confusing, and don't want to not have the right stuff washed etc.
We are planning on a lot of kiddies, so the cost will be balanced out over them, as i though AIOs were the more expensive, but i'm so confused by the different types on nappies in general (is AIOs the best), different materials, then different brands.. booster, liners, covers, fleece, bamboo (i thought it was a plant??), oy it does my head in!
Oohh.. exciting news at our house, DS is beginning to say 'poo' sometimes when he has done it.. not every time, but its a start!
LOL - Hmmm.. I think your addiction is turning you into a bit of a guru... sounds like you have these nappies coming out of everywhere! But least Luella always has a sweeeeet nappy! Ro is jealous and asking why Lu gets these trendy nappies and all she gets is stupid headbands! ROFL... poor little chook hates em!
ETA - We NEED pink ones!
i'll pack a few different types in the car just in case you make it! ;)
PMSL- Catherine!
Don't worry Catherine, DD wants to know why she gets dressed in blue and everyone on the street says "what a sweet little boy you have"
I tell them she is a girl and i don't feel i need to impose gender specifica roles and colours on her at this age... that shuts em up pretty quickly... really its when we run out of the girl stuff and it seems so wasteful not to use the jumpsuits from DS when they are only in it for a few hours before they chuck on it again
Maybe i should get her a headband.
lol, i had a stupid woman at qld transport ask me what lachlan was when i had him in a blue tracksuit and i was carrying a blue wrap and blue dummy. it was very obvious, blue jumpsuit i would have understood!
Hey everyone!
I took Kieran to the paediatric chiro today and got him checked over. He has a curve in his sacrum (I think that's the bit he meant?!) which he was able to manipulate and his left shoulder is a little out, but he said the curve will be causing this. This will probably explain the colic/reflux. I have to take him back next week for more work, then in a month's time, but it is nothing major thank goodness. It cost a fortune for the first visit, but it will be worth it in the long term. They worked wonders on Joel when he was a bub.
Nic - Wow, jetskiing already! Sounds like a lot of fun!
Rebecca - Glad you had a better night with Caitlyn last night. Hope you have another good one tonight!
Tiff - So sorry you had to give away your dog :( . We had to adopt a dog out a few years ago and it was very sad. We were all much happier in the end though and now that I have kids I'm glad we don't have both dogs as I don't think Joel would be able to play safely outside.
Melbourne girls - I don't think we will come this time, sorry :( . I don't think I can manage with the two of them at that time of day (feed time and Joel's nap time) and that far away from home. I would love to meet you all at some stage!
Hi to everyone else!
Viv - in answer to your questions
1) how do you dry whatever you've boiled sterilised? - we use a microwave steriliser, but I don't dry anything I sterilise otherwise it wouldn't continue to be sterile.
2) do you sterilise them just before you give the bottle or do you store them? if so, where? - yes, things are kept sterile for 3 hours when kept in the container
3) how do you warm the EBM if it's been in the fridge/freezer? - we have an Avent bottle/food warmer takes a few minutes to heat the bottles
4) is it the same calculation for how much ebm they get as if you were doing formula? - whatever Cath says.
Also, Viv, what room temp does JJ usually sleep in? We bought one of those Grobag egg thermometers and even with the aircon on and the room really cold it still says around 24 deg when the recommendation is 18 - 20. Great toy tho and can see how you could get addicted to taking the temp.
Tiff - sorry to hear about your dog, but you are absolutely right to get rid of a dog that fights cause he could attack a child. Was worried how one of my dogs would react to L as he was my little baby, but so far seems to be really good. Tho would never leave the dogs alone with L.
Brissy girls - outside Big W would be good as the Parents Room is close by. Excellent room BTW.
L was weighed today. He has put on 430gr in the last fortnight. He is in the 25th percentile for weight and HC and the 50th for length. Still a small guy but getting bigger all the time. He might make 4kg by next Tuesday in time for our lunch.
Hi to everyone. Hope you are all having a good day.
i think it is rediculouse that people get offended if they call a girl a boy or vice versa, seriously, they all look a bit the same, how is anyone supposed to know. I don't mind if Lu gets called a boy!
Q- Lu has been SUPER sleepy today. slept from 7am-10am Feed straight back to sleep. i woke her to feed her at 1pm (didn't eat much) straight back to sleep, i woke her again at 4pm to feed (full feed), awake 20min then back to sleep. Is sleeping on the floor at the moment......
Have tried to wake her, but she just dozes back off....
does this happen when they are growing or something? Nothing else has changed, no recent vax. Maybe its all the socialising....? Any ideas? Should i be concerned?
I don't care if people call DD a boy.. and i understand if she is in blue that's what everyone thinks.. you can't tell the difference with a newborn anyway... Its more people's reaction when i say quite nicely she is a girl in her brothers hand-me-downs and they look at me like i'm abusing my child or something.
Yael, Rochelle is pleading and begging me to send N some of her headbands! LOL. She has got enough headbands to headband every child in Africa!
But seriously, Rochelle looks like such a boy with no dress or headband... It's such a waste NOT to use the stuff you have from your son because they just grow out of everything so quick! Rochelle doesn't really fit any of the orginal stuff we bought! Such a dam waste, she hardly got to wear any of it!
I really only sterilise because of the thrush, no point in treating it if your going to keep reinfecting yaself.
Ange, I wonder what the go with Lu is? maybe she is just going through a developmental stage?
Trish - Glad you found that little problem and hopefully gives him some relief - I'm glad it wasn't anything worse but still sorry to hear!
Ange Maddi will go through similar stages, sometimes i think she just catching up on lost sleep.
Phil's uncle & he's g/f are expecting their baby girl this Friday & my sister just found out she's pregnant for the 5th time, so I'll pass some of Maddi's clothes on to them
Cath where do you buy all your headbands from? I've only seen a Christmas one & i brought that for Maddi.
mm..thrush is a good point.
I ahd severe thrush with my son, was on diflucan tablets everyday for 3 weeks. I found taking probiotic powder (buy from health food store), helped also, and you can put it on your nipples and Rochelle can get some that way to help her also (as advised by pharmacist).
Other than that, diflucan, thrush cream on nipples all the time, and daktarin gel in the mouth (DS loved the taste of the gel so much, you could barely get your finger out of his mouth).
But it sucks having it... Watch out for vasospasm afterwards...very painful and you can get it as a secondary thing after thrush due to nipple trauma.
Mo - We have the entire collection from DJ's - they are the best ones! When I first bought a couple from there when I was pregnant, they were so small they looked like a wrist band and I wondered how on earth I'd get it on the babies head! But they are the most adorable ones. And I also bought more than $100 worth from an ebay lady that lives near me on the Gold Coast who makes them as well as the little baby clips, which Ro still can't wear because she is almost bald on the top and it would look funny if I put clips in her grandpa hair at the back of her head. Theres also another ebay lady who makes them that I bought a few from. And then there is babyco - they have some too, but they aren't as nice as the others. I can PM you the ebay ladies details and you can have a looky!
Yael, My dr won't give me the tabs because I am bf'ing? But I am taking the inner health plus and using nilstat and also daktarin gel as well as washing towels and bras in vinger in the rinse cycle. I've also been told to apply vinger to my nipples, but I don't have a chance to with the nistat and daktarin. I was going to see my Dr about probiotic powder, but it seems to be clearing - not in as much pain anymore. What's vasospasm? I keep getting pain in my breasts thinking I'm getting a reoccurence of mastitis... I know it's not but.
I would check with a different doctor, or actually a pharmacist is better.. Both my GP and LC said it was fine to take diflucan whilst b/f
There is a great person to speak to in Melb, i will track down his number.
ETA: Rodney's number (Monash Medical centre drug information line is (03) 9594 2361.
He would be the best person to ask.. otherwise try asking Barb Glare about it.. I just know that my thursh looked like it was clearing up for a while, put it just stayed there persistantly but not as full on for a while... Best to clear it up early.
Vasospasm is similar to chillblains of the nipples, basically the blood vessles restrict, and when they reopen again, you get bad pain. It feels almost like burning hot skewers going up your boobs, but it was different to the thrush pain (hard to describe). Your nipples go white and normal colour again, normally in response to cold (like after your baby comes off the breast and the nipple is wet and exposed to air). Best thing is go keep your chest warm (warm showers and great, heat packs on your nipples). Need to take serious amounts of certain vitamins for medicine to get rid of it. Very painful and nasty.
Yael- my gf thinks some of the clothes i put on Lu constitiute abuse too! She wears boys clothes and they are not even hand me downs........i buy them! She had a blue MCN on and some little blue leg warmers the other day and this GF said it was cruel! (I thought she looked cool!) She has a photo of herself in a bear suit as a baby- scarred for like i think, ROFL!
Catherine- $100 on HEADBANDS??????? You are nuts! PMSL :p
Mo- 5th child?! Wow.
Ange, if i tell you how many kids we are planning on, you will fall off your seat :) I plan to get my money's worth from clothes and MCN!
oooooooo.... How many Yael? Enough for a footy team? We plan on 3 or 4 (halfway there!) I already cant wait to be pregnant again!!
Same thing happened to me. I had Chels in a dress (Yes, a dress!!) and a pink blanket draped over her, and a lady came up and said "Is it a girl or boy????" Go figure!!
EXCITING -- We got our SS pressie today!! (YAY!) Am gonna wait til Xmas though!! So thanks SS!! Do we ever get to find out who our secret santa's are?????
Cant wait til Tuesday! Yay! Do you girls all take your prams?

Me
Becky
you guys fill in the blanks on who else.
Craig and i plan on having 2 but i dont know if im happy with that. lachlan is just too cute, i dont know if i could stop at 2, maybe 3???
Go on Yael..........Shock me!
Cath could you please PM the details thanks :)
Yep Ange I'm gonna be an aunty for the 6th time, I've been an aunty since i was 1 Now i just need one of my nieces to make me a Great Aunty lol.
saffi - james' standard room temp is 24. anything less in queensland would constitute child abuse. rotfl. i put socks on him if it gets much below 24 in there. you wait till winter - if he had to hang out in 18-20 he'd just die. i can see why grobag would say that - their bags would be quite hot. jj just hangs out in nappy/singlet/muslin wrap then bunny rug folded in half when it drops much below 24. he loves it warm.
yael - props to you for sticking it up the punters about gender roles. i can dig it.
amelia - so i capitulated and ran out to the chemist last night to buy a couple of dummies. the middy had said big boys like ours with strong sucking reflexes would need them. james has a thing for sucking his fist through muslin, even if it is unsatisfactory to him compared to real boob. so i get home and he crashes out before i get a chance to try the dummy on him, and same this morning. i bought the pigeon ones.
in other news - got home from shops to find DH giving jj his first bottle. awwww... soo cute (and shh, secretly i think they bonded over it but don't tell them). jj had no worries and pigged the lot. granted it was just a 100ml stop-gap feed till i got back (so he could pig more boob) but it worked.
happy days.
so for those who were bottling EBM - how much could you extract from yourselves on the average attempt?
Just a quick one from me.... I don't care if ppl call Rhys a girl!! It is a unisex name as well.
I am up for the meet up just have to see how my scar is by then. I split it in the centre about a month ago and it is still healing but it got infected again at the end of last week.
Also Rhys is already in 00!! He is a tank!!
Off to the Dr's and meeting mum for lunch!! Have a good day everyone!!
At this stage we are planning on 10. If we can cope with more then we would have more... If we can't cope then we will stop.
My rabbi has 15.. i know a family with 18. Not sure i can handle that, but both families are the most put together families with the best brought up children i have ever seen (i lived at my rabbi's house before i got married, i never saw any of their children fight or argue over anything).
WTG Viv on JJ taking the bottle. Amara will have none of it - no bottle no dummy, she is a boobaholic.
Yael - I bow to you for wanting more kids I could not do it, physically or emotionally or financially for that matter LOL! 2 is all I have enough of me for so I figure I should be kind to them and stop now.
Check in laterish :)
amelia - i thought 00 was small... haha... i was impressed that he fit triples when he got home from hospital but thought him fitting 00 meant he wasn't so big .... oops, guess he too is a tank. also, does he demand food more often than 3 hours. the midwife told me off for feeding him more, but i figure a big d00d needs more f00d, no?
Yay James for taking the bottle! Tyron trys to suck his hand through the wrap sometimes too!
Just tookNix to the docs he has been snotty for a few days, thismorning when he woke his nose was almost close over from chunky fluro green ones noice! And his eye was a bit gunky too. Im trying to keep him away from Tyron, pretty difficult all the time though. Mum is going to take Nixon this arvo and keep him the night so hopefully that bit of away time from Ty helps him get better.
Yael- wow 10 kids. I always wanted 3 but after having 2 i dont know that if i still want 3 so hats off to you! Do you mind me asking how old you are? Im guessing you still have a few good years to possibly have 8 more children! A Manager at my tupp office is pg with baby 7, and she does so well at Tupp i wonder how she gets the time to manage everything!
Oh ad i think after chrissy who ever wants to reveal their SS is fine, i know who had Tyron cause i did the draw and i know the person Tyro had knows their present was from us already too!
gotta get the kids to the shops for a Santa pic but dont think a fluro snot nose would look to good in the pic lol!
I'm 25, turning 26 in Jan. I had DS 10 days after i turned 24.
So i reckon i could squeeze quite a few kiddies in before menopause hits!
Viv - thats makes sense that if you use the Grobags that the temp would be lower to compensate. I won't be so worried now about trying to get the room down to arctic levels. Tho, overnight it sat at around 25 - 26deg so need to cool it down a bit.
I tend to express anywhere between 20mls - 60mls at a time. Earlier in the day I tend to do less as I need to have enough to BF, but once I put him down for his 6pm sleep I will express as much as I can possibly get, and sometimes do it another time, to feed him the EBM at 10pm or during the night. Haven't got enough yet to start to freeze tho. I aim to have 100mls as that seems to satisfy L.
Brissy meet up:
Kate
Becky
Amelia (maybe)
Saffi
Checked out our preferred daycare centre yesterday. It looks really good and was impressed by all the progress charts and books they keep, including photos of what they did during the day etc. Bit of a worry tho that they hadn't received our waitlist form (damn Oz Post). But they were happy to back date the application to August when I sent it in. Still not sure if we will get in when we need it. Just as well have our names down at 8 other places.
Might look at getting our photo done with Santa too. Will do one with both L, DH and I. And no I won't be sitting on Santa's lap!
Nothing much else happening. Check in later.
Mo - I'll PM you the details... But don't forget to check out DJ's!
Viv - Very early days I could get 160mls in no time at all and could have probably got a bit more if I continued - but by the time I got to 160mls it was slowing down.. but Ro could still have a feed and be perfectly satisfied after. Now, I don't express very often, but have the last few nights because Mum and Dad are so keen to feed her - I only get 40-80mls and I think it's depending how relaxed I am. I use the Bach flower to help letdown too because when I was stressed about not having any milk, I couldn't get more than 10mls. I was wondering how much everyone else gets too - I was going to start a thread to enquire. I know I can get the most in the morning because that's when I am fullest, but I am lazy mornings.
Amelia - I am suprised Rhys fits into 00, Ro is also wearing 00... but not in everything.
Yael - I have taken down those details, but I won't give him a call till I get home because I wouldn't be able to get to health food shop or anything similar till then (Moranbah has nothing). I don't think I have vasospasms - but I do get pain deep in the breast, I have ever since the thrush got quite bad, but I thought it was just the aftermath of the mastitis or mastitis coming back. I'd love to have 10kids! I love being a Mum so much... But I think I better have a second first and then decide if it's for me... ROFL. But Daniel wouldn't be keen for 10 - I think I'll be lucky if I get 4.. MIL is keen for us to have many more!
After everyone always saying to me they don't know how I cope without Daniel being home or any help - I don't think I like help! I had a different baby last night... the baby from dark depths of hell! I went to put her down for her nap yesterday, a bit after lunch (used Mum's room because all the other room's are down the other end of the house and Daniel is on night shift) and here I am sitting on the couch see Mum go into her room - about a minute after I put her down - and comes back out with Rochelle, baby talking her 'your not tired are you, your wide awake!' I'm like ****, What are you doing? Mum's said, she's not tired! She's just laying there with her eyes open. GRRRRrrr... So I say fine, she can stay up a bit longer seeing as this is your last day off with us before we go back home. I know her tired signs and at home soon as I see them she goes straight down and we have no drama's her falling asleep, she generally doesn't stay up any longer than an hour sometimes less and if Daddy's home and they're playing or having a cuddle sometimes I'll stretch it out to absolutely no longer than an hour and a half. I know the longer she is up once she is tired the harder it is to get her down and she gets over tired and it's a struggle for her to fall asleep. Anyways, I keep trying to put her down all afternoon - She was being difficult and didn't want to go down being very clingy etc. So i'd put her down and walk out with the plan that as soon as she starts to carry on, go back in to reassure her. I don't even get a chance, Mum is already in there picking her up (Ro doesn't even get a chance to whinge) and telling me she isn't tired... It went on ALL afternoon... So who got stuck with devil baby last night? Screaming the whole house down because she was so over tired. Where was my Mum? No where to be found. Can't tell me a baby who has been up for 9 hours isn't freaking tired! I know she's tired after an hour... she has very subtle signs that you have to watch very carefully to even notice. God I could have hung my mother last night! When she woke up at 3.30 she wouldn't put herself back to sleep nor did she at 6. It's only the last one she's been herself again and has been able to fall asleep in peace without protest by herself.
Sorry about my b!tch...
Cath - poor u! It can be so hard to keep your routines and ways of doing things around others who think they know better, particularly parents who have older ways of doing things or have forgotten how much babies need routine and don't recognise the signs. Try to rest up as it sounds like you haven't had much sleep.
Count me in for brissy meet up!
Myles has been a bit grumpy since his needles:( Cant wait to get my happy boy back!
Hope your all well! I can do personals today I must clean my house!!!!!
xo
Thanks Saffi! No once she was down I got sleep, but then when she woke up for a feed and would usually go straight back down I had to rock the little bugger while she cried. :( It's terrible seeing them cry... It really only took about 20mins to get her to sleep in the early morning, but I'm just b!tching because i'm not used to it. I mean fair enough if she was just having a bad night.. but it's Mum's fault! LOL..
Saffi! 8 OTHER places!!?? Wow I guess thats one of the benefits to living in such a small town! We only have one centre here and I got all the paperwork and toured the centre yesterday. Looks good! Am only putting Caitlyn in 5 hours a day and they are going to "work something out" on the fee schedule for me cause a half day is 4 hours and the director didnt want to charge me a full day fee for only one extra hour. Is anyone else a bit peeved that you have to pay fees on a public holiday when the centre isnt even open??
Catherine - that can be what Caitlyn is like most nights! LOL She never seems to sleep and when I finally get her to sleep she wakes up cause she is hungry. She is over tired a lot! I know what you mean about "help" too. I was glad, in a way, when we came back out to Cloncurry after spending 4 weeks at my parents place in Townsville. They would pick her up at the slightest noise and I have only just gotten her out of that pattern. I will go in and check on her and pat her little bum (not so little now shes in "big girl nappies!") and if its a real cry and not the little sooks she has then I will pick her up and cuddle her. My mum kept letting her fall asleep in her arms and spend the whole 2 hours there instead of putting her in her cot to sleep! frustrating! So for the first few weeks out her she screamed when I put her in her cot after she had fallen asleep!
However - I have gotten a bit more firm on things now. If she wakes up 2 hours after a feed - I cuddle her - not feed her. I think that was encouraging her to take smaller feeds more often. So with all that in mind - she slept from 8 till 11 last night and then from 1130 to 3 and then (thanks to the dogs!) was up again at 6. Finally got her to sleep again at 8 this morning and she slept again until 1045! YAY
Mind you - I have to say that we spent the best $200 on her the other day and I bought a fisher price swing for her! Best thing - DH calls it automatic parent. She hated the sling, the carrier, the HAB and the bouncer but she LOVES the swing. We put her in it and when she starts to fidget etc we take her out, cuddle her and put her back in it! Since we got it 2 days ago I have not had an over tired baby! Its been great! Sleep - I remember now what it is like!
