Can I join in too? Theodore is 5 days old, we came home from hospital yesterday, and just trying to get into the swing of things.

On our last night in hospital, he wanted to feed every hour and a half! It drove me nuts, and I thought "how am I going to do this when we get home?"

He was pretty unsettled during the day yesterday, and wanting to feed every 2 hours. He had his last feed at 9pm, went straight to sleep, then woke at 2am for a feed, then not again til 6! I feel like a million bucks today!

hi qhi, feeding every 1 and half hours! OMG, you must have been exhausted! But nice overnight feeding ast night Theo, WTG.
Luella slept 4 hrs between feed last night, woo hoo to that as well!

On a not so woo hoo note, i have a huge crack in my right nippple, no wonder it hurts to feed on that side! i couldn't work out why it hurt so much, until closer inspection. *gets out lansinoh and slathers on*

Hope Myles and maddi slept well too. xxx

    welcome Qhi and Theodore!
Mo i think we had the same amount of sleep last night! i Had a good 3.5 hrs today though so feeling a bit better!
Ange how much does the cracked nipples hurt! i have just got over my left being cracked but it still hurts for the first 10 secs or so that he latches on! That bath sounds divine! cant wait to have one with myles!

Not much happening here! Myles eye is slowly getting better! We went out yesterday and bought huggies nappies in bulk! We tried the Nature care (i think) but they are just not as absorbant, i am really bummed cause i really wanted to try and be Green IYKWIM. We are going to try to start using cloth when he is about 6 weeks, hopefully by then i will be a little more organised! But the huggies are so good cause he wees all the time they keep him really dry where as the others would leak!
Anyway have to get the dog inside there is a big storm coming!hope you all get some half decent sleep tonight!

How did you fix your cracked nipple amber? I am lansinoh-ing and airing out. But man i have to bite my lip for the first 10 seconds!

BTW Myles is just gorgi-pie, even if he is bald!

Mo- i hope tonight is easier.

Its funny we spend so much time thinking about the birth, that i didn't really think about the after bit!

Happy long sleeps to all. xx

ange i just let it heal naturally just by rubbing breast milk on it! it was awful cause i expressed a bit and it was full of blood and i panicked! but looked it up and its ok if there is ablood in it cause he has been living off my blood for 9 months! well thats what it said anyway! it still hurts a bit at the start but its not cracked anymore!
I have thought about the birth abit as it didnt really go how i wanted and was feeling a little dissapointed with myself for not being stronger, but after a chat with my Dr and dh i felt better! Dh said it was the most beautiful thing so i have to keep telling myself that it was and at least i have a healthy baby!
    sorry for the ramble!
Hope you had some ok sleep last night girls!xo

mo do you mean in the birth story section? or just in here?
Well a reall compact sort of version is.... Started getting period type pain on the saturday night and was up every hour feeling like i needed the toilet! about 6am the next day the contractions were getting more regular and more painfull, by 8.30 they were very close and regular. So at 12.30 rang hospital again and they said to come in!
was coping ok with the pain and was sent to the ward as was only 3cm! We stayed in the ward from 1pm to 6pm when the pain got too much! by they way by this time i had forgotten all the things i had read and was concertating way too hard on the pain and the negativity it had on me, than trying to move around and breath!! so at 6pm we went to the birthing room and i started on the gas!
At 9pm the midwife broke my waters and gave me the pethadine shot and Myles had pooed inside so they had to monitor him in case of distress! I couldnt even move i thought the pain was that bad! see this is why i think im dissapointed in myself cause i couldnt handle it!
so at 11 pm i had an epidural! considering i didnt want any drugs at all i was screaming for it! I think at this time i kinda gave up! i was exhausted and in pain! Once the epidurial went in i felt at ease with the pain but very nervous as you cant feel your legs!
It would have been about 1.30 am or so that i got the urge to push! so i started! it was so hard as you have no feeling! His head kept going back in and he hadnt quite turned properly so they offered me the forceps! After talking it over with DH we decided it was best for baby! so unfortunately they cut me to insert the forceps and in one push Myles head was out!they had to clear his airways in case of meconium and with another push he was out!
Gee it wasnt as short as i thought sorry! So after wanting the most natural Birth as possible i had it all! drugs forceps and stitches! I supose hindsight is a wonderfull thing, cause after being through it i belive i would be able to handle the pain!
But he was out and healthy which was the main thing!

sorry it was long, i try not to think about it too much, the first couple of nights it consumed me and i even had nightmares! but its true that once that baby is in your ams you forget it all!

Amber, there is alot of pressure for women to give birth without pain relief, particularly on some websites...... Although it may be 'ideal' to have an in intervention free birth, it is no always possible. There may be some downsides to the pain relief and small effects on the baby, but everyone is so totally different and they do have their place.
Who know's if the contractions you were feeling were more painful to you than someone elses contractions. And you were in labour for a long time. You should not feel at all dissapointed or weak or anything else, you did the best you could at the time, and maybe next time it will be different, but you should be so proud of yourself for making a beautiful little bub and bringing him into the world safely.
Don't be so tough on yourself, and don't worry about what other people think.

A quick story- my gf had first bub 8 hr labour no drugs, no dramas. 2nd bub was posterior she had longer labour, gas, pethadine and an epidural. She said the pain was SOOOOO much worse for her 2nd. So it goes to show, pain is not always the same for everyones birth.

You should have seen me! I bawled when the OB told me i had to be induced and have an epidural due to my BP, and i wasn't even in labour! I too wanted as intervention free birth as possible, i read all the books, paid a fortune to do a course, but it didn't work out for me either.
In the end Ob had to use forceps and i have a couple of stitches too!

Although my birth was nothing like i had intended, i did the best i could. And so did you. And what a gorgeous little man you have! I think woman feel bad b/c of the unspoken and spoken pressures surrounding them leading up to the birth. There is a 'gold star' associated with birthing naturally, which is fine as long as it doesn't make people feel like they failed if they had to have drugs.
Having a natural physiological birth can be a goal, but the health and well being of mother and baby has to be the most important thing.
I know i am ranting on but every woman who gives birth by whatever means should be as proud as the next. After all you have just grown a whole little person, that is pretty impressive if you ask me!

Pep talk over, Lu needs some boob, damn it, up to the cracked nipple side! OUCH! She slept from 11 until i woke her to feed at 3am then slept until i woke her at 7am. What a champ!

I meant just on here & thank for Sharing Amber

I agree with Ange you should be proud of yourself, you did the best you could & now you have a gorgeous & healthy little boy
I think you did extremely well considering how long you were in labor for.

Maddi's crying must be food time.
Ange wanna send Luella over to talk to Maddi as well
