How are you all this afternoon? Logan decided he wanted to play most of the night and all of today so I am alittle sleep deprived and going loopy.

Noni maybe you should talk to your Dr about the appetite loss? You have to look after yourself so you can look after Asha.

just popping on really briefly to say hello!!
we just got home from hospital yesterday and it's been pretty full on. i'm typing with one hand right now as i attempt to breastfeed my little man. he's so gorgeous, i can't believe how in love with him dp and i are.
thank you to ella for posting my birth announcement. yes, he was a whopping 10 pounds 3. the birth didn't go very well at all. i'm still trying to come to terms with it all and am no where near being able to post a birth story yet, but let's just say i went into shock after it for about an hour afterwards and was shaking uncontrollably. it was far from the natural birth i had hoped for.
bfing is not the easiest thing in the world either is it? i am using a nipple shield but have very low supply for such a big boy. think it's partly due to being a vegetarian.
dp has taken to fatherhood like a duck to water. he has completely surprised me how brilliant he is at it. he loves his boy so much that it brings tears to my eyes. they look exactly alike too.
just took lewis and my dog out for a walk in my hab sling and it is fantastic. lewis loved it, i'm stoked!!
can't wait to catch up with everyone when i get some time. hope everyone is doing well...

Noni - I hope your feeling better soon. Maybe you should go to the doctor and suss out what is going on?

Jazmum - I’m thinking about not letting Rory sleep with his dummy either. Its easier to put him to sleep with his dummy but last night he woke a couple of times because it had simply fallen out of his mouth! I must say Hannah is so beautiful. :)

Queenie - Not long to go now! Have you got everything ready & packed for the big day??

Artechim - There ar some real fancy parent rooms out there now isn’t there? I went into one the other day at our local shopping centre and it had lovely cushioned swivel breastfeeding chairs, dimmed lighting. microwave, lounge and CLEAN toilets woohoo!

Sherie - We DTD the other night and I felt like a ..... MUM! It felt like the first time because I didn’t feel like the old Renee...I’m a mummy now! It was a spur of the moment thing. Dwayne must of looked like a real stud racing into the BP late at night for a packet of condoms and a red bull LOL!!!!

Its such a lovely day here. I took Rory for a big big walk and he loved it. Rory had is grandparents visit this morning. He is a very spoilt little boy!

Well better run its 5 minutes past Rory's feeding time and he knows it. He is crying for his feed in his bassinette!

i must say i am enjoying today - feeling v domestic - havent been out today - just did domestic things, cleaned the floors that havebeen bugging me for days, booked N in for all his appts - paedeatrician, immunisations etc, rsvpd for a few ABA meetings (you dont need to but I didnt know this!!) and then baked a cake for afternoon tea as a girlfriend popped around. all in all a nice day and Noah I thinkk enjoys the odd day when we stay at home - esp as I have been going out a lot. I have a busy weekend planned so i think it is a good thing to be at home a bit more today. Mum is coming round for dinner tonight so i better cook something for that too.. (or i could get her to do it when she gets here LOL).
Noni - I think you should go to the dr - the others are right and you need your energy to look after Asha... plus I know your eating has been a concern for you before (as mine has to me!!) so the sooner you get onto these things the better. I hope you dont think I am wrong to say this, it is bc I care for you and want you to be healthy. Do you think your iron is still low (mine is and I am back on supplements hoping to avoid bum injections again LOL). Dont pressure yourself but look after yourself as best you can. Hope you are feeling better soon.
Gracie - great to hear from you, I am sorry that you dont fel great about the birth but at least you have wonderful Lewis and you seem to be really enjoying him. Cant wait to hear more from you how tings are going
Lovely Renee - you seem so much better now than a few weeks ago - Rory is so lucky as you seem to be a wonderful mum!

Katie - thanks for asking about the Diaorea - it is alot better, he is more refular and theya re closer to normal... sadly i think it is prob the jelly beans I have been eating... so I am off them now! (i refuse to think it could be chocolate yet...) He is doing heaps better and the nurse told me to really worry only if it is green and with mucous... as that is real diaoreah... the rest is the gut reacting to milk... I am sure I will still worry about everytyhing, it is only natural as a first timer! I hoep you get some sleep tonight.
Better go - want to do a few more chores before Dh gets home and mum arrives too... bring on the weekend!

Gracie, sorry you didn't get the natural birth you were hoping for. My birth was also less than ideal and it took me a couple of weeks to be able to think about it without bursting into tears. Make sure you don't bottle it up - talk to your DH, I am sure he is proud of you no matter what happened.

Oh I have been meaning to ask...

Rory looks like he has milk on his tounge all the time. Do you think this could be thrush???

Renee - Noah has this and i was wondering too so I asked the nurse.. she told me to wipe it with a cotton bud - milk will wipe away and thrush wont... so far for me it has been milk...

Renee, they can have milk on their tounge for ages after a feed. If it was thrush, it would be hurting him and he would refuse the bottle and just be miserable as it gets quite sore. Also another sign of oral thrush is having spots on the inside of their cheeks and the roof of their mouths. LOL at the Mum sex - you wil find now that you may not take as much time as you used to as you always have one ear to the door, but on the other hand you get quite spontaneous as you just take it when you can ;)

Pregpan, you rock girl! I am only doing the minimum ATM as I just have too many people needing my attention so it's been hard to get into the grind again. Sounds like a very busy weekend coming up for you.

Gracie hun, great to see you back on, even if only briefly. When you are ready, have a good cry and a debrief about your birth - it will do wonders for your soul. Try not to dwell on the if's but's and maybe's - you will do your head in, but take comfort in the fact that you grew this little boy to perfection and the way he arrived in this world (even if it wasn't the way you wanted) is such a small part of the process of firstly becomming and then being a parent. With the feeding, I always say that BF is the most natural thing in the world, but it sure as egg's doesn't come naturally for everyone. IKWYM about feeding a big bub - the first day and a half in hospital when I was BF Alister, he was constantly hungry and it took ages to fill him enough for him to settle to sleep. He also passed a lot of ketones in his urine (pink staining on his nappy) and his wees were very pungent when he started doing them (took nearly a day for him to wee) and I knew things weren't right with my supply, and in the end my milk didn't come in at all so in hindsight he was probably a bit dehydrated. I am sure that once you get settled at home that your supply will increase and you do feel like a milking machine for a while, but remember that to increase supply you need to feed often.

Katie, I felt like that yesterday. Luckily he slept well overnight and I feel human again today (somewhat ;) ) It's hard when they just want to play and are wide awake at 3am LOL.

Noni, hun you really need to try to eat. I know it's hard - I don't have much of an appetite either ATM, but you really don't want to end up with anaemia or anything.

I ordered some clothes the other week from JK Kids Clothing for Alister and they arrived today. I am so glad I brought the 3-6mth size clothes as they fit him perfectly now and I haven't even washed them yet. I thought I would get all summer out of them but I don't think I will - especially if they shrink in the wash.

hi everyone! popping in quickly too. still adjusting to motherhood and am also wanting to read up on this thread FROM THE START. i've already used info on breastfeeding (and lanisoh?) from the first few pages and didn't want to miss out on any previous conversations/discussions. :)
will also try to get my birth story out but not sure when it's going to happen. this is the first time since i've been home (came home last tuesday) that i've been able to sit in front of the computer and type with both hands. dp's got max. oh, i've also got a picture of her here somewhere. am just feeling like a real proud mama and need to show off. lol.

It's wonderful being a mummy isn't it. I too love the HaB, and Hannah loves it too. So many people comment on how comfortable she looks in it. There are 3 other mums in Jessica's class who have all had babies within the last 7 weeks ( it looks like we have our own mothers group when we drop the kids off to school lol ) they all asked me where i got mine from and were considering converting from their Baby Bjorns.
Renee - I use the dummy when i need to settle her , but need to do other things. Like now she is in her rocker with the dummy in, but is very restless. Have you been letting Rory sleep on his tummy?
Pregpan - are you wearing your undies over your pants today? Cause it sounds like you have been "SUPER MUM" today lol.

Oh no Rory does have spots! He always has a few about 1/2cm from his mouth. Kind of where the ring of the dummy sits. Although he doesnt have them in his mouth....I dont think EEK! I thought they were milk pimples. Ill make an appointment with Community Health Nurse tomorrow. Lucky she is just down the road (2 min drive)!

JaZmum - I have been letting Rory sleep on his belly. He is able to lift his head and move it from side to side now. Sometimes he wants to be on his belly and other times he wants to be on his back or side.

Sherie - I feel like Alister & Rory are very similar for some reason!

Renee, do you think so? About the thrush, try Pregpan's tip first and see if it wipes off. I found this info too which may help you too;

The first sign may be that the baby is unsettled, especially when feeding (his mouth is sore). However, many babies are not bothered by thrush.
Thrush shows as white patches on the roof of the mouth, inside the cheeks and on the tongue. There may be redness around the patches, and they might look like ulcers. Unlike bits of milk, the patches do not wash or rub off easily.
Sometimes the baby will have a nappy rash which may also have thrush in it.

You can treat it with Daktarin gel if it is thrush, it's an over the counter product at the chemist. Also, how are you sterilising his bottles and dummy? If you use Miltons solution, stop using it for a while and boil all his things. Miltons doesn't kill the thrush bacteria.

Jaz, I wish Alister would stop with the spewing for a bit - not that it's bad, but boy does it make him smell funky LOL. Must be a baby boom near you too - in Erin's preschool class alone there were 4 babies born within 5 weeks of one another (including Alister), one back in July and one due any day now. That's not counting all the other classes either - going to be a huge school year that one.

Hi Fianne. Glad you are finding the threads useful - it's so hard when this is all new and you're not sure about something. I wish I had BB when I started having babies. Max is a real cutie pie too - she is very alert.

Gracie - big hugs hun, you are in the thick of the tricky days, things will get better soon! Being vego shouldn't affect your supply, remember it's early days yet and the signs that your baby is getting enough include plenty of wet nappies, good skin tone, and baby looks alert and happy. Just watch out for the nipple shields, you might like to speak to an LC or an ABA counsellor on how to best manage using them as they can decrease the stimulation and affect supply - but managed properly they should be a help not a hindrance.

Sherie, Elisabeth has been doing quite a lot of happy chucking and I've noticed the funky odour a few times too! LOL Might be time to start the bibs - change the bib instead of the whole outfit!

Anyone else graduating from the newborn size nappies yet? - DH and I had a big discussion on which Huggies to buy - he said newborns and I said next size and looks like I was right as she keeps pooping out of the top of the back of the newborns! LOL I'm sure it's partly cos of my ABs making her poos a bit more explosive than usual.

Also anyone seen any of the lighter colour (more pastelly) ACTIL cloth nappies anywhere - I bought one packet of 6 at Kmart about 6 weeks ago but now they have only the really bright ones. So handy as milk and spew mop up cloths I want some more - in the same colour please!

Firstly I want to say thank you for all the tips and advice U have given me earlier this week. We have got the lil princess back on track. I really think it was cause we were both exhausted as we went out with parents too much and walked around too much - hence the increase in lochia. It hasn't calmed down that much, but i'm sure it will soon.

Thanks also everyone for the encouragement - its been great. I haven't been posting, as i have basically been on the couch all week and yest DH had the day off and we went to Ikea. The restaurant was packed so i ended up 'discreetly' feeding T at a table. hee hee. :) went well actually. She didn't seem to mind whatsoever.

Does anyone know how much food we are supposed to be eating during the day, ideally i'd like to go back to my 2 meals a day, which sometimes happens and I feel bad for T, but other times I make sure I eat lots and generally I am hungrier than usual. Just wanting to know what the other b/feeding mums out there are doing with food supply etc.

Well, I just read up on posts and now going for a shower, before heading out to the supermarket cause we have NO FOOD left in the fridge, freezer or cupboard! lol and I am craving fresh FRUIT.

P.S *Gives Pregpan a big high 5* - you aren't the only one lugging around F size cups! I am a 12F! lol. They only just fit into my mat bra too. I should really get another one, but I sort of haven't had the time or energy to remember to get one. They feel so good after a feed and they are deflated again. Yes, I too have the large flat brown ones. :cryinglaugh:

Marydean - I am thinking of starting the next size of nappies at night when T is sleeping longer. Huggies suggests to use the larger ones at night and continue to use up the smaller nappies during the day when you can change them more frequently. The poop doesn't get absorbed but the wee does. Guess that makes a lot of sense :)

Last night she slept 7.5 hrs in one go. Could NOT believe it when I saw the time was 9am this morning and she started crying.

SupaB - my dietician told me that your energy needs are higher when you're BFing than when you are pregnant!!! So I imagine it's normal if you're eating more than usual - maybe for you that means an extra small meal on top of the two normal ones or some extra snacks...? Glad you've been resting more and are feeling better too!

Good tip for using larger nappies overnight, might try that (not that madam has been sleeping too much longer at night)!

MD, I thought the newborn nappies were starting to look too small on him, so I bought some the next size up but they look way too big so I guess I will just buy the smaller newborn packs for a bit longer.

W has decided that someone must hold him at all times. It was hard enough getting anything done when he only sleeps for a couple of hours during the day, but now I have to hold him constantly it is next to impossible.
