Re: Babies Born ~ December 2014
It was Easter Friday, hubby was 700klms away working. I was sitting on the couch and I just felt teary all of a sudden. Did a test and two strong lines came up straight away. Totally shocked as our DD toke 2 1/2 years, laparoscopy & hysteroscopy, plus clomid. Before our positive with DS we were trying for 13 or 18 months - can't actually remember now - & one failed Clomid round before I fell i ovulated naturally with him so he was totally planned but I was shocked!
I promise you, you will sleep again. Though I don't think you ever sleep like you did before children. How you adjust depends on how you cope. I can mostly function on small amount of broken sleep, though I didn't when DD was little until she was about 8 months old. Now I'm so use to it, doesn't mean I love it though ha ha.

Re: Babies Born ~ December 2014
Argh I keep forgetting about this thread! Sorry for going AWOL everyone. I think I will do a catch up read and in the meantime you can fire away any questions of what you would like to know lol.

Re: Babies Born ~ December 2014
Yea, lets respark this thread!!
Quark will be 6mths next week, already sitting (never rolled). Laughs but only at her sister. Sleep is a killer, same as her sister, average is every 1 1/2 hrs over night...good nught we get a 3hr stretch. That and a toddler who also doesnt sleep all night im exhausted. But happy =)

Re: Babies Born ~ December 2014
DS will be 5months tomorrow. Still fully breastfed and taking a huge interest in food. He is trying to grab everything but coordination isn't the best yet. He has just started to roll but doesn't do it often. I have not seen him go from his stomach to his back but can go from his back to his stomach. He is more likely to roll when his naked. He loves his baths.
We didn't want to give him solids yet but his so demanding for our food his just started to have a taste. That's all it would be. He would feed himself if you let him.
In other news he has 2 teeth that popped out the day before he turned 4months. And has the top ones not far off. At his 4month check he was 7.5kgs and 66cm. His head is big just over 44cm. It doesn't look big I think its just the shape. He is also growing so much hair now.
Poor bubba hardly sleeps at all during the day. Like yesterday he had 20mins from 6.30am until 4pm when DH got home and I could go lie down with him. Then he slept for 40mins which is good for him. He does sleep well at night. Still feeds 3-4times overnight but its a few minute refuel and back to sleep.
TT that's very cute that baby DD laughs at her sister.
Is anyone looking at returning to work? The moment my maternity pay runs out I have to go back. Really worried about putting DS into care. One of my work mates have left. So our service is running very short of staff. I think they will offer me full time if I want. I'd love more work down the track but not yet. Its tough as its a job where once you get it people don't leave until they move towns or retire. If I don't take it the opportunity is unlikely to be offered again but I definitely don't want 4-5days a week for another few years.

OMG every detail about this apart from rolling when naked and giving him solids is identical to DS!! :O Well his first 2 teeth were 5 days before 4 months but he is also really interested in food. I am holding off for baby-led weaning at 6 months though. Oh and he's about 5.5 months now. We had him weighed and measured again yesterday. .. 72cm and 9.8kg :O

Re: Babies Born ~ December 2014
Im on my phone so just seeing symbols
We do baby led feeding, i caved and she has been having a few things over the last week, but shes big and was so facinated, and i inturpret it as about 6 months cause all babies are different. It hasnt been much, like some toast crust or a chip every second day. She is still very much bf too. No teeth yet
-
Re: Babies Born ~ December 2014
I'm going to do baby-led weaning too. I did it with DD and loved it. I'm quite looking forward to it actually :)

Re: Babies Born ~ December 2014
Hi Ladies, lovely to read your updates. No paid work for me until this babe is in prep. Sounds like a great opportunity for career advancement Mildez. These babies are big cuddly Bubs hey. My little man is developing much the same, rolling but not frequently, also showing curiosity to food but will wait till 6 months, two teeth, he hasn't found his feet yet, loves standing, loves chatting, loves the ergo, getting some routine for sleep. We're currently in the 'relationships' leap and my very happy bub has been grizzly poor darling. I still want another bub, have definitely decided not to though - working on feeling ok about that.
Seriously though where has the time gone... Taking those little babes with it.
-
Re: Babies Born ~ December 2014
There doesn't sound like there is much between them I terms of development.
Rosey I hope it gets easier with the decision to not have any more bubs. There are certainly advantages in stopping. Financially we are struggling although our friends would think otherwise. I guess it depends on your interpretation of struggling. We definitely can't afford anymore. DH is on the waiting list for the snip but has not been called up yet.
If you don't mind me asking has everyone got their AF back? I thought I had one about 7weeks ago but nothing since.
Of to take DS to the Dr today. Have a little concern he has an erps Palsy. His got some weakness in 1 arm. His hand is fine its the arm itself.
Yes where has the time gone? I wish it would slow down a bit.
-
Re: Babies Born ~ December 2014
Hello ladies! Good to see everyone back. I was going to come and do a six-month update even if no one else was around, but I had a busy week. Was surprised to log on and find so much activity!
Mildez - How did the doctor appointment go? That is quite concerning about his arm.
Rosey - do you need to make the decision about how many children just yet? Can you hold off a year or two before making it a permanent decision?
As for us... we are doing great! I am loving this stage, it is so much fun!
Still rolling, mainly back to tummy. He is so content on his tummy, will lie there and play with his toys for over an hour. Spinning around like he is on a lazy suzan, realy quickly. Still not sitting, if we sit him up, he flips himself around so that he is on his tummy. If he's on our lap, he wants to stand. And bounce... he's such a kangaroo!
No sign of any teeth yet.
7.9kg... 50th percentile. Haven't done height for a while, but was in 95th percentile. Long and skinny!
We caved and started solids early, about two weeks ago. I wanted to give him something other than formula, so that we can start cutting that down. Was going to do baby led weaning, but he doesn't seem to know what to do with finger food other than mush it and throw it on the ground. So far we've done cauliflower, carrot, pumpkin and sweet potato.
I stopped pumping about two weeks ago. It's such a relief to not have to think about it! I was making less than 200ml a day, but I wanted him to get my milk for as long as we could. I've still been using the SNS to breastfeed occassionally. I know it's more for my benefit than his, but I'm finding it hard to let go.
Sleep... not sure if I should say this for fear of being stoned! Haha. He usually goes to be about 7:30, tho he's had some late nights lately (9pm) He wakes at midnight for a bottle, which DH gives him, and then again anytime from 4-5am. This morning it was 5:45, he didn't want the bottle, just resettling then slept until 7. So I guess with that solid block of sleep I can't complain about being tired, tho I still usually lie down when he has his day nap. Day naps have improved significantly, he was a cat napper up until last week, now he's having 2 sleeps of 1.5 hours, sometimes an extra one in late afternoon, depending when he woke up. I don't keep him up more than 2 hours, or we get grizzles.
He is getting more social now, starting to smile at others rather than just stare at them. Always lots of smiles for mummy and daddy tho. I love his personality, very happy and content. It is flying tho, especially the last three months. How to make it slow down!
Sorry for the long post. It's been a while!
-
Re: Babies Born ~ December 2014
Forgot to mention... No AF yet. No signs, no CM either.
Considering I'm not bfeeding, stopped pumping over a week ago (and the last few days were just once a day) it's surprising. There must be more to the bfeeding and AF link.
Or maybe I'm just broken and can't have any more babies?
-
Re: Babies Born ~ December 2014
Nice update TD. Love the lazy Suzanne comment lol. Sounds like your baby boy is going great :)
Any chance your already pregnant? I have had 1 AF. That was 7-8weeks ago and now nothing. I guess I am out of wack. With my 1st AF return when she was 6weeks old. But number 2 and 3 was 6-8months.
-
Re: Babies Born ~ December 2014
Oh my... Pregnant already.
No, I do t think so. I feel too good to be pregnant!
Not worried, we aren't planning on ttc just yet. I'm sure it will come in the next month or so.
Were you exclusively breastfeeding each time your AF came back?
-
Re: Babies Born ~ December 2014
I was exclusively demand bf with both girls and got af back straight away, like literally 6weeks on the dot both times
-
Re: Babies Born ~ December 2014
Yes exclusively BF all mine. Only my 1st gad a dummy maybe that's why it returned so early.
-
Re: Babies Born ~ December 2014
I exclusively BF DD and AF didn't come until 13 months. I was on the mini pill. I am exclusively BF DS and just got AF this week at 5.5 months. But I changed from mini pill to Implanon 2 weeks ago.
-
Re: Babies Born ~ December 2014
Haha any man reading this would be like "HUH?"
-
Re: Babies Born ~ December 2014
Haha yes. Just looked back and my last AF was 18th April. Nothing since. I guess that's normal to go so long in between. I do remember last time it was irregular for a good 6months or so.
-

Are you still tandum feeding, TT?

Re: Babies Born ~ December 2014
I did for first 3 mths, the really just couldn't stand it so force weened Spock =( she still asks for it too... and has been sick more times in the last 3 mths since than her whole life =( but i just couldn't handle it physically anymore, esp with the DMER
-
Re: Babies Born ~ December 2014
Sorry to hear Spock has been sick. Don't blame yourself tho. You are beyond amazing to make it that far. Especially with DMER!
I think we've had our last breastfeed :( I could keep persevering with the SNS, but it really isn't worth it.
-
Re: Babies Born ~ December 2014
Little boy is commando crawling!! If a favourite toy is just out of reach, he'll pull himself along with his elbows till he can reach it. It's so cute!!
Still not interested in sitting up. Probably because that means sitting still.
How do you dress a baby that won't lie on his back more than 5 seconds? He's been looking like a country bumpkin lately, with his shirt/jumpsuit open and singlet hanging out!
-
Re: Babies Born ~ December 2014
Oh TD, wait until he can run away!! Go little man go!!!
Sns?
-
Re: Babies Born ~ December 2014
Daddy can't wait. I'm happy that for now, he doesn't move too far when I leave him for a few minutes. No need for a playpen or gate just yet. Still so proud of him tho!
SNS = supplemental nursing system. A bottle that hangs around my neck, filled with formula, then a supply line to the breast. Helps low milk supply mummies have a bfeeding relationship with their bub.

(I hope that's not considered a commercial link. All other pics were on eBay etc)

Re: Babies Born ~ December 2014
We are taking bubby boy on his first plane flight this week! So excited. Really looking forward to seeing my family, and showing off my little guy. Plus two whole weeks with DH! We also have a 16hour road trip, as my grandparents are regional new south... hiring a car was cheaper than flying. I usually love road trips, but we'll see how this goes!
A little nervous too. DS has had a runny nose the past week, so I'm worried about his little ears on the flight. Going to try to get him to drink during take off, but he has a mind of his own... if he doesn't want his bottle he knows how to say no! Any other tips?
Nervous that I'm going to forget something, too. The days of travelling light are now ancient history!
-
Re: Babies Born ~ December 2014
Where are you heading? I am in regional NSW.
My bubba was 6months yesterday. Just cracked his 4th tooth.
-
Re: Babies Born ~ December 2014
Hello Aunt Flo... Nice to see you. Two months after I finished pumping!
Mildez, my grandparents are near Dubbo. Been a good trip so far.
Seven months. Just cut first two teeth. Crawling. Pulling up to standing position. Crawling up the two steps in my parents lounge room. Still not sitting. Learning and growing too quickly!!
-
Re: Babies Born ~ December 2014
Wow, fave auntie!!
We are sitting, still no rolling to any attempts to move.. no teeth yet either, been meaning to see when Spock got hers, might go do that now
-
Re: Babies Born ~ December 2014
That was a nice break from AF.
We are sitting and rolling and wiggling a lot. No crawling. He has 4 teeth with the next 2 next to the big top ones very close to popping out. He will occasionally say mum mum and bub bub bub. There are a few Da's coming out but not Dada yet. His really starting to enjoy finger foods and demand food. If I try BF him he bites when he wants food. He only has small amounts but loves to chew on things like bits of carrot etc.
He also likes to grab your hair, nose, ears etc. Poor Miss 4 is sporting a nasty scratch from a sudden lurch for her nose. His super cute. Its such a lovely age for us.
-
Re: Babies Born ~ December 2014
I'm loving this age as well! So much fun.
DH was more excited about AF that I was, as it means we can start ttc again. I don't think he's serious. So not ready for that! Seven months is pretty good considering we never exclusively breastfed.
We are home now. It was a good trip. Managed to squeeze in Canberra as well so saw all my aunties/uncles/grandparents etc. Not bad considering they are so spread out! Bubby was so good with all the travelling and visiting. Plane didn't bother his ears at all!
I feel like we've brought a different baby home. When we left, he was commando crawling a few metres. Now he's hands & knees crawling all over the house. Super clingy & grizzly, whereas before he would play on his own quite happily. Now if I walk out of the room he starts crying, and got quite worked up today when I was hanging washing on the line. Hard to tell if he just misses the constant interaction from his grandparents & uncles, teething, or an attachment phase. Any ideas? Need to wear him more, or put him in the pram so he can at least see me... Contrary to MIL's advice "let him cry a bit, he needs to get used to playing on his own."
-
Re: Babies Born ~ December 2014
Even if you carry him he will still learn to walk, same as even if you play with him he will still learn to amuse himself sometimes too. He could just be wanting 'homebase' (or the mother ship as we call it) now you are home and back into your normal routine. Plus the more independent he becomes the more he might just need some gold solid 100% mum time to solidify it. Sounds odd but the closer you two are, the more confident and independent little ones will be.
Glad to hear you had a good trip. =)
-
Re: Babies Born ~ December 2014
Thanks TT, that is encouraging. I read quite a bit about attachment parenting before he was born, but because bfeeding and co-sleeping didnt work for us, I always wondered if he had a secure attachment. Plus he is so friendly and will go to anyone. So I'm actually enjoying his clingyness and that he wants to be near me. He's such an awesome little person, who wouldn't? :)
Better days yesterday & today, making sure he can be near me & see me, and make lots of time for play. Really enjoying it. Despite MIL saying it'll "make things harder later."
So... If he sleeps in our bed, he'll still learn to sleep on his own, right? :) 4am he decides he's had enough of his cot. It takes an hour to get him settled again.
What is everyone doing for sleeping arrangements? Cots, bed sharing, etc? Any bubs in their own room yet?
-
Re: Babies Born ~ December 2014
I want to say yes he will re sleeping....but Im still yet to see it =p
Something reassuring is Spock use to wake every 2hrs for 18mths, then i forced night weaned and she slowly decreased wake ups, and now at 3 it is only once maybe twice a night. So that does get better...
Ok so our current arrangement: we have 2 bedrooms, one is ours and one is the girls. Both girls have beds set up in their room, (except Quarks doesn't have a mattress yet) but Spocks bed is all pretty and comfy and warm in there. We then have our room, which has our queen bed, the cot next to it 'side carred' without a side, so is the same sleeping space as our bed itms, just means she cant roll off (not that she is rolling anyway) we then also have another single bed in the room but not connected to the main bed. Quark sleeps in the cot. Spock goes to bed in her bed, but will wake up in the middle of the night and migrate to the other bed in our room. I was hoping when Spock was 3 we would keep herin her bed, but im so zonked by Quarks wakeups i very rarely hear Spock, so my hubby deals.with her, and its not uncommon for me to wake up and find Spock in bed with me and him in one of the other beds. (Which i hate....but he isbtired and does whatever is easier at the time. ) Spock will resettle really easily though and is often asleep again before we migrate her to whatever bed. Im hoping once Quark joins her in their room she wont come into us as often
-
Re: Babies Born ~ December 2014
My husband is the same TT. Does whats easiest at the time. I set up is the same. King bed, cot and single bed in our room. DS is in bed with us and the cot is empty. Its been way to cold to keep him in the cot. We will try again in a month when its not so freezing. Our house is cold.
Is anyone elses bub not feeding so good now they are having some solids? DS doesn't seem to be getting the comfort from the boob he use to. If I offer it to him he bites. Quiet deliberately and he has 6teeth so its hurts a lot. He seems to want to eat food and a lot not just a few spoons I would expect him to have at his age. He can easily eat an entire piece of toast and demand more. Its not like he even will have a bottle as he wont. He will play with a cup or bottle but isn't interested in drinking from it other then to play. He is thriving 9.5kgs and at the 85% for his age.
-
Re: Babies Born ~ December 2014
You ladies must have big bedrooms! No way could we fit all that in ours. It's a fair size for our small home, but it also has some odd angles that make it limited where we can place furniture.
The cold is exactly why we stopped co-sleeping. I like the covers over my shoulders, and didnt know where to place DS so he was safe. We had the chicco next2me co-sleeper as his bassinet, next to the bed for 4 months then it got cold and the quilt was just at his level, so zipped it up & moved it away. We even took it travelling with us as it packs in to a travel bag. He would still be in it, except now he is standing up so it just wasn't safe to leave him in it.
Soon as we got home, we had to go out & buy a cot. DH said "I know understand why you need a cot. I thought it was one of those things, paint the nursery & buy a cot, and never use it."
He is still in our room. MIL was suprised, thinking he should be in his own room. I told her its because its cold, our room has better heating. Didn't tell her I still sneak him in to bed with me at night when I'm giving him his bottle. Got to get all the baby snuggles I can!
TT, funny how your little one isn't rolling, and my little one isn't sitting.
Mildez, sounds like your little guy is doing great, what a chubby little guy! Can't help with the feeding & biting, sorry. DS went off his bottle about a month ago, turned out he was coming down with a cold and sucking possibly hurt his throat. How is his side/arm?
Anyone heard from Rosie?
