man hands are the best for burping IMO because they are bigger. Also sitting them on their bottom on your knee and rocking them from side to side (does that make sense?) i find helps. I suck at burping babies but my DP, Dad and Step-Dad are all awesome haha.
I really don't know how you mums with more than one little one do it. All of my time is taken up with Cooper. Only just dressed now and it's 2.30pm. He's feeding two hourly today which is so much more draining, although he did a 5.5 hr sleep over night so I can't complain I guess.
I'm good. Still pumped after the LC told me Honor gained 500 grams in a week (the norm is around 150-200) and mastering good attachment on my right breast. My nipple is still very sensitive though. Does anyone know how long it will be before my nipple heals completely while still feeding from that nipple? The LC said I also didn't need to wake her for night feeds now that she was well above her birthweight. So while she's still waking regularly it is so much more relaxing to not set the alarm and manually try to get her to wake up.
However, last night she was awake and very unhappy for about three hours between 8:30 and 11:30pm. She was crying hysterically and could not be consoled with cuddles or milk. I think she has colic... Or is this normal? She was sort of writhing at times and seemed physically uncomfortable.
Well done LL! Your doing an awesome job, must be a load off your shoulders knowing you little bubba is growing so well
Cooper often has an unsettled time anywhere between 7-10pm... That was also the time he used to kick me like crazy before he was born. I'm not sure if it's normal, maybe an experienced mum can answer this one.
I have seen on the 'Being Dad' DVD or something like that that many babies have a sort of 'witching hour' between 7-12pm ish, so maybe that's it. Things are going a lot better with Emily now and DH and I even managed a walk this afternoon (with her) a movie last night and a movie this evening, plus some cuddle time with DH this morning
Hi girls, just realised this thread existed! Haven't read posts yet but am obviously joining!
Ellis Kane Breen was born on the 14th Feb, and is going fabulously. Hoping all the girls from our baby due thread r here, will try & catch up soon. Also hi to the ladies I haven't met...
Emily won't settle! She's crying and crying unless you hold her... Either DH or me. I had put her to bed at 9:25pm and she was fine until about 10:15, then started. A variety of problems were found and sorted, eg: nappy changes, feeding again etc, bit then all this nonsense started and it's now 1:30am! Argh!
Hi everyone sorry I've been quiet Lillys had a couple of restless days at times and we've been super busy. Pheebee hope it's settled now!!
The curdled milk business sounds fairly normal Lily gets it too
Yes and we have witching hour here I have to make sure everything is done by the time kids and dh goes to bed as lily seems to be in my arms till I go to bed
Yep H prefers to sleep in our arms too at the moment. Plus she's really highly strung- goes from placid to hyper screaming upset in a matter of minutes. Especially if she is in the bath (hates bathing) or has a pooey nappy and we change her.

I think we finally all got to sleep by about 3:30 or 4am. But she started stirring about 5:40am and by 7am I got sick of her not waking up but still making sounds, so I woke her and fed her and then was back in bed by 8. Slept until 11 and then wake, feed, rush around to my GP appointment at 12:45. DH dropped me off, then went to visit my grandparents, who live just behind where the GP is and I walked over afterwards. They were very happy to meet her for the first time. She was fast asleep the whole time
Hey all. I have had this thread open for days to reply. The time just gets away from me. Having 3 is busy.
We have no real night schedule here....hell we have no real schedule at all here save the one that means I have to have Miss 5 at school on time lol. She's waking on average 3 hourly which is a thousand times better than DS at that age and waking hourly. Still, I had forgotten how hard it is doing this all again though. Must be that I'm that bit older this time. You'd think I'd be good at it since DS only just started sleeping through a few weeks ago.
Day 3 blues hit are here too. And this was my third. I actually got released from hossy on day 3 so that was tops - not. Was a little annoyed but really couldn't complain since Holly's not my first, I wasn't sick, I had coerced the anaesthetists into giving me the drugs I knew worked for me after a section and they desperately needed the beds.
beans my DH is still home until the 20th March (if we don't kill each other before then), and I have to say I'm a bit nervous about all three on my own. DH lives away full time.
Shan I am so not the person to give advice but they sleep longer when they are ready. I have had two sleepers from hell, so I'm hoping for a better one this go. We've had my parents here from interstate too. As much as I love them and was grateful for the help it was getting crowded here and the kids weren't coping. I was kind of relieved when mum said she was homesick and needed to go home. Funny though, I've been doing this gig for nearly 6 years and she still thinks I might change my mind about how I parent. Trust you chick, you're doing a great job.
Oh Phebee . Do you guys have other support? Do you have a good community nurse that's coming to your house? Witching hour is totally real. We have it times 3 here lol. So is the clingyness. They still haven't figured out they're separate to you yet. Have you got a sling or a carrier? Don't panic if she won't settle when everyone else says their baby does. My DS didn't settle until 11pm. I was going spare until I just went with him. It isn't personal. They are figuring out their normal and we only make ourselves stressed trying to push otherwise.
Blixie, I'm hearin ya on 3...
MummzySair my DD started school recently too. All this upheaval (grandparents being here, Dad being home, school, baby) are taking their toll on her. I take my hat off to you doing work as well hun.
Carly, a load of dishes is an achievement babe. Hang in there chick. It does get better.
How did V's u/s go TM?
Glad you're here LL!! Welcome little Honor! What a gorgeous name. Sounds like she's really getting the hang of feeding. 500gm is awesome! Burping either well over my shoulder, or something I learned training in NICU before I had kids. A pistol grip and sit them up nice and straight (thumb and forefinger under chin, middle and ring finger under their arm) and rub firmly from lower to upper back. The crying is totally normal around the 2 week mark. So is the curdled milk if she's a bit over full. They're still figuring the whole thing out.
As for us Holly has put on 500gm in a fortnight. We were lucky to have a domiciliary nurse everyday for the first few days, and have had a visit on Wednesday just gone. I'm so good at this mummy gig (not) I needed to get a printed reminder for immunisations lol. Holly's cord stump only fell off at 2 weeks old which I thought was really late (DS' fell of at about 5 days). She's doing the cling thing too and not wanting to sleep in her bassinet. I'm so hoping she reverts to when she would. I need about 6 arms atm. I have taken about 4million photos of her. She hates baths too and we've kind of avoided them unless necessary. However tonight I got in the shower with her and she loved it. She had a feed in there and was so totally relaxed she pooed on me - twice...lovely.
~Kim~ - at least she did it in the shower so it washed right off
*The_Mrs.* - really curious about Violet's u/s as little miss E will be having one on the 7th... her left hip is clicky
ladies, bubby's stats at birth were 3690g 52cm in length and head circumference of 36cm.
She is now 3weeks 3days old and is 3965g 53.5cm in length and head circumference of 37.5cm is that sufficient growth? From the gains you ladies have said about your bundles she doesn't seem to be doing as well...
Was rushed through, didn't get to see the child health nurse so have no idea if she's going well or not...
Pretty daft considering she's my third sorry if i missed anyone having a bad day. Will come back tomorrow
