Hi ladies!
Definite hi 5 candy!!
Just curious if anyone else has had or does have a colicky bub? How are you handling it? Found anything that works?
Going ok atm when it hits about 2am I'm pretty ready to tear my hair out though :-/
No advice on the colic sorry kimmi. Glad you're here tho.
Any updates on starry?
Aleks has decided that his cluster times are 3am - 7am and 5pm - 7pm.... Not so impressed with the 3am session! But he did get to meet Dana Linn Bailey at fitx this weekend! Mummy was rather happy to meet her idol too. I'm heading back into the gym tomorrow, 2 weeks and 5 days post birth. I'm bloody excited!
Kimmi, my first two had colic and reflux. it can get pretty tough, so don't forget to look after yourself whenever you can. if she sleeps during the day, lie down at the same time. a baby carrier is well worth the money. get one that you and your partner are comfortable in.
'colic' can be reflux or silent reflux and meds can be helpful. i didn't do meds with my first, but did with my 2nd. there are pros and cons in using or not using them.
i gave a dummy from 6 weeks to dd, i think a bit earlier with ds. it helped give them something to suck to relieve symptoms without giving extra milk. both kids dumped the dummy when their symptoms began to go, dd was 4 or 5 months and ds 6 or 7 months.
Thanks hotl! It's good to know its a common thing n isn't something we are doing wrong that's caused it! Using infant friend atm and she had a really settled night! Was very surprised and excited! Although I kept waking up to check on her haha
I'm going to give it till my 6 week check up with my dr n get a second opinion.
later i worked out that if i ate dairy the kids were more unsettled. dd grew out of it earlier and was ok to have dairy herself by 9 months. ds still reacts if he has too much dairy in his diet, but he can have some now.
i am hoping that this little one doesn't have too many issues. she is still not a vigorous feeder, she comes off a bit. i think flow is too much for her.
actually, (i keep remembering all things we tried with the other two!) giving them breaks while feeding helped, and also having their bottom/tummy lower than their head while feeding.
Loving your tips! Thanks!
Curiosity did you find they fed more when they were in pain? I think it's more the distraction or the motion of suckling that comforts Elsie more than the feeding. But at night she seems to be constantly feeding... Could this be making the colic worse?
Kimmi my bub gets wind pain a lot, and was comfort feeding and sucking A LOT, especially at night. I gave in and introduced a dummy. Best decision I ever made. Lol. It settles him instantly and means he's not on the boob so much at night. He's still putting on half a kilo a week with way less feeds, so I'm confident he just wanted boob for comfort. Oh, and now I don't have to feed him just to get him to sleep- I just give him the dummy. I never wanted to use one, but it's working for us.
kimmi - i went looking thru my old posts cos i was wondering when ds' issues kicked in and found this thread. there are some anecdotes and tips you might find useful
