Hayley has been very unsettled today...don't know why! Finally she is in bed asleep...I put her down at 7 because she was getting tired and grumpy then woke up at 8 so I gave her a bottle and of course she didn't want to go back to bed! Let her have some nappy free time on the floor to tire her out a bit, but she still grizzled for a while when i put her back to bed at 9.
She did sleep in until after 8 this morning and had an hours sleep late this afternoon, so maybe she just wasn't sleepy yet! Lol. i don't think she is a morning baby, she usually sleeps until at least 7.30, has only been a few mornings when she has been up before 7. good for me because I don't like getting up early, especially now it is darker outside in the mornings. probably won't be so good when I go back to work and will have to get up and have her ready as well!

Hopefully I won't have to go back to work...DF's hosting/IT business is going really well and he's picking up a fair bit of contract work (mostly car/truck towing). There is also a possibility we may be moving to Tumut/Gundagai around Christmas, provided things go ahead as planned and DF is offered a towing job in that area.

I have to get out of bed to feed...have to get out anyway to get her bottle ready! When we first brought her home I fed her in bed, but I found I would almost fall back to sleep again...so I go out to the lounge room and watch telly (we got Austar a couple of weeks ago so now at least there is something decent to watch at 2 or 3 in the morning!).

hayley hasn't been weighed since her 6 week check up with the MCHN. The next "official" check up isn't until 4 months or 6 months, sometime around then. I am thinking of making an appointment to see them in the next couple of weeks, I'm worried she might be getting a flat spot, although she usually sleeps with her head on the side and spends a fair bit of time rolling on her side on the floor or sitting in her rocker. Maybe it's just me being paranoid... But just for curiosities sake I'd like to see how much she has grown and gained in weight. Not really interested in anything else they have to say, after my first experience with them! Pretty much ignored all her advice anyway and just did my own thing.

SS Storm - that is exactly what Sam was like today. He normally only stays awake for 1 hour but today I was waiting for tired signs and nothing was coming! 2 hours later I though, he really should have a nap but he would grizzle and then when I finally got him to sleep he would only sleep for about 50 minutes!! I think our guys are about the same age. He woke this morning at 5.50am starving as last feed 10pm and stayed awake for about an hour fifteen, just put him down for a nap which was pretty easy, so we will see how that goes.
I have been trying to let some light into his room so he gets use to sleeping with some light as his bedroom from next week when we move is much bigger with more windows but we think that is maybe what is disturbing him!! Anyway, lets see how he goes today! Good luck to you too!

Just a question guys, what do you guys do if they wake up after only 45 minutes during the day? I am torn between going in quickly to try and get him back to sleep - don't want him to get use to me coming in at the drop of a hat or waiting to see if he goes back to sleep. Normally he doesn't, he just gets more worked up over about 10 minutes and then I go in and I have no chance of getting him back to sleep. Do you guys just get them up or try to get them back to sleep for a little longer. I think this is becoming a habit and I want Sam to learn to go back to sleep as I don't think he knows how to settle himself off..
    Just thought I would ask!

Mmm Jetta, I have the exact same question!
I worry that if I go in too soon, she will expect me to respond immediately - I like it that she will lie there quietly for a while - but if I don't go in straight away then she ends up wide awake. And to be honest I don't know if I could get her off to sleep again anyway...

So sorry, not much help but I am interested to see what the others have to say.

Wow there has been a lot of action here lately!

I get out of bed and feed Ash in his room at night. I find that when I do that he knows he has to go back to sleep cos that is the only time we do a feed in there iykwim. The few times I did do it in bed we all ended up falling asleep, so I figured it was best to get up. I do do his rollover feed before I go to bed in bed though.

Ash also tends to wake up after about 30 or 40 mins during the day. Usually I just leave him unless he starts crying or really grizzling. 2 out of 3 times I end up having to get him up because he has decided he has had enough sleep, but sometimes he will chatter to himself for 10 or 15 minutes and then fall back asleep (which I think he might just have done ).

We also had a bit of an unsettled day yesterday, he didn't sleep for any longer than 40 mins, so our routine got really thrown out of wack. But I think that's because his sleep patterns are changing. Sat, Sun and Mon nights he slept through (woo hoo!) but then Wed morning he woke up at 5.30am so I put him back to bed (in my book it isn't sleeping through unless he makes it till 6am, and even then I might put him back to bed so I can have a sleep in ). Then this morning he woke up at 3.45am . It seems that if I get him up earlier and don't put him back to bed then he has longer naps during the day, but if I get him up (when he sleeps through) at 6.00 or 7.00 he has naps of around 1.5 hours... Just don't know which way I prefer it...

Last week definately was a wonder week for us. He was feeding heaps and quite unsettled, but his development has come along in leaps and bounds since. He's just started rolling off of his tummy, is batting at the toys on his playmat, grabbing hold of toys and anything he can get his hands on to feel them and he did start sleeping through the night for the first time.

wow - our internet access was down for one day and so much seems to have happened on here in that time!

First up - Zac slept for EIGHT HOURS last night!!! OK, so it was from 7pm til 3am, but OMG how cool is that?!

Since everyone seems to be talking about the same stuff I'll skip personals...
Anyhow, our normal night looks like - asleep between 7pm and 8pm, usually until anytime between 11pm and 1.30am at which point he usually comes into bed with me where he is quite happy snacking until about 3.30/4am and then I have to make a bottle. Last night I made a bottle as soon as he woke up and then he was quite happy snacking until 6am. I feed lying on my side with him lying on his side facing me and we both fall asleep. It's very nice and peaceful, and I tend to have at least one afternoon sleep like this each week - especially if he's had a wakeful night and hard to settle.

During the day he generally only sleeps for 45 mins at a time and then awake for 2 hours I just leave him in his cot until he starts grizzling - he can be quite happy chatting to himself for 10 minutes or so. Very occasionally he might nod off again, but I've given up trying to resettle. I think the idea if you want to do it is to go in before they actually wake and start patting or whatever you do so that they move straight into the next sleep cycle. Hopefully after a few goes at that they have then learnt to do it by themselves so you're not stuck doing it everytime

My question at the moment is about getting them to sleep - for a while there I could put Zac into bed when he started showing tired signs and he would quietly just zone out and then fall asleep, but lately he has started grizzling as soon as I put him in his cot. I try to let him be if he is just grizzling quietly, but if he starts yelling I always go into him. The only sure fire way I've got at the moment is to rock him in my arms until he falls asleep and then I put him down. It works, but I don't want to be stuck doing that for too long - he's going to be too heavy! How do others settle their babies?

Our MCHN has weighed and measured him every week up until 8 weeks, then again at 3 months and will do the next at 4 months.

Sorry for the super long post!

    OMG WORST NIGHT EVER!
Oliver still gets bad wind pain. He screams and squirms and his tummy gets rock hard and he's just miserable. Last night he screamed for 12 freakin hours! I'm 99% sure it's wind because, basically, he stinks. That, and when he fed overnight (in the short, short breaks from screamfest '09) his tummy was gurgling and rumbling as the milk went down.
I tried - gripe water, bicycling his legs, tummy massage, warm compress, "colic" hold, panadol, brauer's colic relief, bouncing him and 2 warm baths. He'd finally drift off after about 2.5hours of crying, then would be awake 20minutes later, starting the whole saga all over again! I can't think of anything different I've eaten. Am wondering if perhaps his gut flora is all out of whack from the ab's he was on for his ear infection, coz when he did a poo this morning it stunk! He's finally calmed down but jesus! I'm thinking about taking him in to see a baby chiro next week, there's one that's supposed to be really good in the next suburb, and I figure it can't hurt.
Sorry, I'm no help with the sleep, Oliver really only sleeps for 45mins too. The only time he tends to sleep longer is if he's swaddled (which I'm trying to wean him off of). He's asleep atm, in his sleeping bag, with his arms inside (I figure it's similar to swaddling, but his arms can move a little more). The nurse recommended to me to go in after 35 minutes and wait until he showed the first signs of waking, resettling him before he was completely awake. Apparently most babies wake somewhere between 35 - 50mins after going to sleep, and after a few times, you'd know exactly when to go in. Supposedly this only takes a few days until they learn not to wake at this time? Dunno, everytime I tried it Noah had to come in to see what was happening so it was a dismal failure. Also I still hold Ollie to sleep 80% of the time. Not a habit I want to get in to though, Noah had to be rocked off to sleep until he was enormous, like 15months I think.
About to lose (what's left of) my mind.
