Heva I wouldn't worry too much, I don't think it will cause any problems if she gets a few teeth at once, I am sure one or two of my kids did but they were a bit older. It might just mean she is a bit grizzlier & has a bit of a tough time with it, but at least it will be over with quicker!
Storm I have tried to get the laughs on video too, it's tricky
I think I am gonna cry. I just typed a big post and it got swallowed.
Anyway, I was saying that I hope tht you lovely ladies and your little bubbas are all well. 4 months huh? Too hard to believe. I loved looking through and their cute little squishy faces on the tickers.
Phoebe is great, rolling, crawls backwards and belly flops her way around forwards. Wont stay a baby for me at all - evil little daddies girl! Love her to utter bits. Have her album here because I am just tooooooo proud - Facebook Photo Album (feel free to add me if you wish).
We have been busy preparing stuff for xmas but I should be on more now. I sold my laptop and am stuck sharing the desktop with the kids. Oh the joys, lol. Anyways, I will do a proper catch up on everyone next post. Just on compiling some blogs and stuff for a couple of webbies so taking a mental break, lol!
hi everyone
sory for being so MIA - i cant even remember when i last wrote in here. i have had a quick read and it sounds like everyone is doing well.
I cant believe how much all the bubs are up to and where have the last 4 months gone???
My gorgeous little man is great - he is learning to roll - so far just to his side! i think he is half ecited and half frustrated at this! he is a vocal little thing, gurlges, coos and vocalises all day long - so i think he will be a great talker like his brother! he is drooling heaps atm too...
are any of you experiencing the '4 month sleep regression?' Jacob has never slept through but he generally was having maybe 2-3 feeds overnight - say 7.30, 11.30, 3 and then up around 7. now he seems harder to put down and then is v unsettled from 11ish onwards- has been up every hour to 90 mins the last few nights... i am hoping this is normal and i shouldnt be too concerned that something is up or that his good sleep is changing all together? he is great all day - v happy etc. i thought it could be wind pain as he gets quite upset which isnt like him, but it seems to be a pattern... he sleeps a few times in the day for around 40-60 mins a time. i feed on demand.
he is growing beautofully- he is 6.8kg now so i know he is doing well overall...
oh sory i have to go he just woke up... will come bacj and post more (less selfishly) soon!
Took Hayley to the nurse today to get her weighed and measured, just for interests sake! She is now 7.5kg (but that was with clothes/nappy on, so I'd say between 7 & 7.5kg), 63cm long and 43cm head circ. So she is going really well, little chubba bubba!
She's asleep in her bassinette atm, although she almost doesnt fit in there anymore it's just too hot in her cot in our room, even with a fan going. we are going to move house once our lease runs out in december, this house is just too warm for a little baby in summer. Took her a while to settle in there, although she wasnt upset just chatting and giggling away...left her there and she eventually went to sleep!
MamaPan- Hayley has regressed a bit in her day sleeps, night time she is fine although she wouldnt go to sleep until nearly 9 last night, kept crying and waking up when she was almost asleep..but she has been sleeping through until 6.30/7am so I can't really complain! Some nights she still wakes up at 2 or 3 for a feed, and if she doesn't wake for a feed she still stirs during the night so I have to get up and resettle her to sleep even though she isn't awake iykwim.
Her day sleeps the last couple of days have been awful..once she is asleep she is fine, but starts screaming/crying as soon as i go to put her in her cot...i dont know if I'm putting her down when she isn't tired enough, or if she's overtired..dunno but it has been taking 10-20mins to get her to go to sleep.
i think she has a couple of teeth coming through, noticed two little lumps on her bottom gum last night, they aren't at the front though, they are out to the side of her mouth and the lumps are poking out of her gum, not coming up through the top of her gum?!? dont know if that is normal, or if they are just shifting around in there and not actually coming through... got some bonjela and a little baby toothbrush (aren't they so cute and tiny!) today just in case.
She is booked in for her 4 month needles tomorrow afternoon...I'm going to cry! Lol. Not looking forward to it.. do you think i should give her panadol before? mum said she used to give us panadol before we had our needles, and apparently the reaction is supposed to be worse than the first needles they get (she had no reaction). Dont know..i dont want her to be in pain, but I dont want to be giving her medicine unnecessarily..
Hey everyone,
Mamapan - the thread seems fine to me :S Isaac's regressed for his day sleeps as well. It's strange cause he sleeps through the night and wont settle during the day. He'll sleep for 20 or 30 mins max and wakes up still tired and he won't settle at all during the day without his dummy
I think I read somewhere that the swelling can be out the side of the gum rather than the top, so it may be very normal, not sure how accurate that info was though. lol
ss-storm - It must be so hard getting a bubba to sleep in the heat, I'm having enough trouble with the day sleeps as it is and our place is normally a pretty good temp.
Inertia - Sounds like Phoebe is doing great, Isaac hasn't figured out he can move I don't think and he doesn't seem to care he can't get around, he's quite happy to lie around(alot like his daddy really ), although not on his belly. I had a look at your pics, she's gorgeous.
Jasp - Your probably right I've read and seen a few horror stories about crowded mouths. Note to self: stop googling stuff
AFM - sleeping has been a little better today, had a couple of longer sleeps. I'm wondering if maybe he's becoming more aware of his surroundings and the sunlight is keeping him awake, we only have some dodgy vertical blinds over our windows. I've also started keeping a diary of everything that happens during his day, to see if I can identify a reason. So far all I've discovered is he has basically no routine at all. He used to, I'm sure of it. :s
Anyone know how I can get him out of the habbit of needing his dummy to got to sleep during the day? If I dont give it to him he just screams and wont go to sleep.
Hope I didn't miss anyone, and you all had a lovely day
re panadol for vax ... read somewhere (recently - maybe Adelaide Advertiser?) not to give panadol for the sake of it as it doesn't help or something (will have to go see if I can find an online version - was a report about a medical study - i'll get back to it)
we had our first rolls today! Front to back - Ds has to lift head up really far and then almost fall over to do it. Missed the first 2 cause I was at work but he did it on demand when I got home. DH saw the first ones
best go see if DS wants a feed as my finger is getting chewed off (might be a nappy change though.
Mamapan - our sleeps at night are okay, once he is down. We are having real trouble on some nights putting him down. At present wakes at 6am, goes down about 7.30am and usually sleeps for a good 2 hours, up around 10am for another feed, then down around 11.30am or 12pm or thereabouts and then gets up again somwhere between 12.30 and 2pm depending on the day. Another feed then he usually only naps for around 1/2 hour at this stage, this is a hard time to get him to sleep and usually takes the longest to settle. Then he gets up around 3-4pm and then won't settle again at all. By around 5.30pm he is quite whingy so bath time then a feed at 6pm and then try to settle off to sleep by 6.30pm. Sometimes he is a breeze to put down, othertimes it takes up to an hour to settle him. Once he is settled though, I feed and nappy change at 10pm and then he sleeps through to 6am. Sounds like he is happy like you said, so I wouldn't worry, I would worry if it affected him during the day as well and he was grumpy or upset etc
Congrats Leckert on the roll! Glad you got to see one! It is tough being back at work isn't it? How are you coping? I am back two days a week and I miss Sam so much. He is with his nana which is great but still.
Heva5 - i know the sunlight annoys Sam in the afternoon sleep, his room is very very light but I do think it is good for them to get use to sleeping in a light room as well.
Ss Storm- sounds like Hayley is going great guns! We had to get air con installed in Sams room as his room gets sun all day long. His room the other day was already up to 27 degrees so air con on although he has some dry skin patches so the air con isn't helping. Good luck with the needles! We need to go next week...I didn't have any worries with Sam last time but everyone says these ones are worse!
I wouldn't give panadol unless necessary. I don't like the idea of giving them things that they may not need, but definately if Sam was very upset then I would
AFM Sam is going well, the dog needs picking up all the time even to go to the toilet so between Sam and the dog, like is pretty busy. Sam is rolling a few times a day now and does enjoy being on his tummy a lot more. Loves sticking everything in his mouth too. Is anyone still wrapping?? I am wondering when to stop??
Hi everyone, just a quick one from me before I get motivated & do some work
Inertia, good to hear from you, I was wondering how you were Your Phoebe is gorgeous! loved checking out the photos on FB..I think your privacy settings might be a bit high though to add you? There is a group on there that MissE started BB bellybuddies due July 1st to 15th, a few of us are there :-)
- speaking of which , Jetta I found you on there Glad to hear Sam is going well. We stopped wrapping a couple of weeks ago, around when she started rolling, I am glad we did as she has decided she wants to tummy sleep. The first few days she was startling a bit but she goes fine without it now - it was a great sleep cue in the early days but I think she just recognises bedtime now IYKWIM?
Leckert yay for rolling! it is hard when you are working, I am always worried I might miss something, only back in the office 4 hours atm but it will be 2 days next year... what a clever girl to repeat on demand when you got home!
Mamapan, sleep is ok here but she is having shorter day sleeps...not quite 4 months yet though so we will see. Could it be a wonder week for J? I can't remember when they are due... AR had one at around 3 months, very unsettled at night for 3 or 4 nights & then fine again. Her feeds at night are a bit more frequent, 3-4 hours but she settles well after. Sh eis becoming quite chatty too so cute isn't it!
Heather - the dummy thing - I have no idea sorry, my first two had dummies until they were about 2.5, DS2 had none at all but he had my boob - TBH I'd prefer the dummy, lol. If it's not really a problem for you I wouldn't worry too much, but if you really want him off it maybe try some other settling techniques, patting etc?
WRT teeth, I wanted to add too - when DD1 was about 9 or 10 we were convinced she was going to need braces , her teeth were horribly crowded & crooked, but her jaw grew to accomodate them & it's all good now. So don't worry too much if it's a bit crowded when he's young
Storm re panadol for vax - I always did it with my younger ones but I have heard these days you don't need to. With the younger kids it was the GP who advised me to do it - but they are always studying something & advice always changes. I think I gave it to her last time, the problem is you can never tell really whether it helps or not... I wouldn't think it could hurt just for vax? Then again if you want to wait & see how she is, she might not need it?... good luck...it's just as bad for us I'm sure.
AFm little miss has a cold her big brother gave it to her, so frustrating I am always telling him not to kiss her , not to get too close to her face etc but he never listens until he IS sick & of course by then it's too late, all the germs have been passed already.
Anyway it's nothing too bad, just a snuffly nose, hopefully it will be over soon.
I have my younger sister coming to stay for a couple of days next week with her LO who is 5 weeks old, it will be nice for her to get out & lovely for us to spend some time with the babies together!
I'm freaking out at how close Christmas is, I haven't done anything yet....
I haven't been in for a while either and now there is too much to catch up on but from what I have read everyone's bubs seem to be going really well.
Mamapan - Amelia has been waking up more than usual overnight and I put it down to her immunisations (we had it on Thursday). She also starts screaming crying like she is in pain or got a huge fright the last couple of days at odd times. Was a bit of a worry but she seems ok now. She was waking up almost every hour overnight for 2-3 nights but we are back to around 3 now.
Well, like I said we had immunisations last Thursday and she cried a little but otherwise was fine (no temp). She weighed in at 6.8kg and 63cm long so going along nicely.
Amelia wants to put everything in her mouth and chew on anything she can get her hands on so we might have teeth on their way. She gets cranky when she is chewing on a toy sometimes.
Ryatha - did you try solids yet? The nurse last week said there has been a change in the thinking of solids and can now start from 4 months to see how they go.
ss_storm - we are off to Wagga this weekend to visit Nan and some friends (first time they will meet Amelia) but it is soooo hot there at the moment. Can you please do a rain dance to cool things down before we get there
Lol Tinsel i will try but no guarantees! It's meant to get to 38 today, and much the same for the rest of the week. Have already turned the air con on for the day..have started putting Hayley in her bassinette (which is in the lounge room where the air con is) for day sleeps as our room is just way too hot...hurry up December so we can find a new house to move into!
Man has she been grumpy today...just put her down for another sleep (about her 3rd one today!), tried to give her a bottle but every time I sat down she started screaming again. I think eventually she just crashed out, I was standing up rocking her and her head was up, I think she was watching the tv, then her head just flopped onto my shoulder. Lol. Peace and quiet finally..who knows for how long! Hopefully she'll have a decent sleep and wake up nice and happy again..only to go and get jabbed..lol life is tough!
Have to make it quick cos I think Ash is going to wake up any minute now... We had his 4 month shots last night and it was awful. He started crying the minute they tried to give him the oral one and then just got more and more hysterical. Probably didn't help that the were holding his head while they tried to force him to have the oral. In hindsight I wish I had of intervened, no wonder he got so worked up! I got DH to hold him while they did it, cruel I know, but I don't want him thinking I would inflict that on him (poor DH). Next time I think I'm going to take him to my GP. Today he's got a mild fever and is very grizzly, but hopefully it will pass. I have given him some panadol this morning, but will see how the rest of the day goes. I was told that there is no point giving them the panadol before hand because the reaction won't occur for at least six hours afterwards. I've also found last time and this time that the fever doesn't set in till the next day.
We also had his 4 month check up last week. He's spot on for the 50th percentile in height (63cm), weight (6.7kg) and head circumference (can't remember now).
Jetta, just this week I've stopped wrapping Ash. I tried weaning for a couple of days and then yesterday just decided to get rid of it all together for day sleeps. His first two naps were okay, but I find it takes much longer for him to settle as he wriggles around and rolls over again and again. I'm trying to perservere, but will see how he goes. Now that he is rolling he does roll on to his tummy in bed so I really would like not to have to use them anymore. Mind you, before when he woke up I rocked him back to sleep and noticed that when I put him down in his cot he still had his startle reflex, but I rocked the cot each time and he fell back asleep and has been for 25 mins so maybe it isn't a problem. Anyway we will see how we go, not sure if I'm confident enough to try a night sleep at the moment. The last couple of nights he has woken up crying at around 1pm (he never wakes before 4am) so I'm reluctant to do anything that might affect his night sleep anymore.
Sorry for the lack of personals ladies, but better run before he wakes again. Hope everyone is well x
cant remember who it was but re panadol - I've found personally that if I take panadol too often then I start to become resistant to it, ie have to take 2 tabs instead of one cause it stops working. I dunno if that happens to anyone else but something to consider?
leckart - Hooray for first rolls how exciting.
Jetta - I stopped wrapping when Isaac was about 1 month I think, but that was because when he was wrapped within about a minute he always managed to at least get his arms out, if not unwrap himself altogether. lol.
Jasp - Sorry to hear about your LO's cold. Hope she feels better soon. OMG Christmas, tell it to come back later I can't afford it yet. The only reason I dont want him to have a dummy is.. ok two reasons.. He can't put it back in on his own yet so I dont want him to become dependant on it for night time sleeps and wont settle without it. If it falls out he has to cry for me to put it back in, which at 3am is not favourable. The other thing is I dont want him to have it in his mouth all the time because I dont want it to inhibit his language developement. ... wow sounding a little paranoid. lol.
ss-storm - thats what isaac does when he's really tired, he only lets me stand and hold him upright, any other position and he chucks a big tanty. I put his dummy in, pat him, rock him a bit, get him sleepy, then lie him down, rock him some more then take his dummy out and try and feed him again. It's worked so far.
MissE - the only time Isaac's had any needles was when he was in the hospy and got the heel ***** test. He was so upset and I felt soo bad that I let them do it to him, thinking I should be protecting him from it rather than holding him down so they can get enough blood. I must have been awful. We're not immunising (thank goodness. I don't think I could handle it) so I totally sympathise with you.
AFM - we have a little toy frog that hangs from Isaac's bouncer and plays music when you squeeze its head. Today he discovered that if he pulls on the tag or its leg he can make the music play ALL BY HIMSELF!! He was doing it over and over agian for about an hour lol. He is so clever I'm so proud of him. I didn't even know it did that lol
He also is starting to show he recognises simple words like "up" - he knows were going to pick him up and gets ready to hold up his head, "ta" - he lets go of whatever he's holding, usually my hair , and he's starting to try and say mumum and dadad - no sounds yet but he's watching our mouths and trying to copy the movements.
His sleepings been alot better today too. *breathes sigh of relief* thank goodness.
Anyway, after writing my novel , I'm off to have my lunch. Hope everyones having as good a day as us so far.
xoxo

ss_storm - much the same here today. I was having a mini meltdown this morning because Amelia just would go to sleep even though she was so exhausted. She kept rubbing her head over and over and friends tell me now that maybe she was hot and uncomfortable. It is hot here today and I have the fan on in her room but maybe she was too hot. She has been asleep for the last 2 hours thank goodness and I keep checking on her but thankfully she seems ok. The problem when she is that unsettled is that half the day is gone and now I don't want to disturb her so grocery shopping will have to wait until later.
Heva - isn't it amazing when our little ones do something all by themselves. I love having the proud mummy moments. Sounds like you have a clever little man there. We didn't really want to introduce the dummy this time but our motto is "whatever works" and as Amelia wanted to suck all the time, we gave her the dummy to soothe when her hand didn't work for her. DD1 still has the dummy but only for sleeping and we didn't have any trouble really with her waking up for it to be put back in when she was a baby. Usually once she was asleep she would spit it out and all was fine. My bug bear is seeing toddlers talking with a dummy in their mouth. I really want to wean her off it as she will be 2 next month.
Miss excited - that is awful that the immunisations didn't go so well for Ash. I think that's the last rotovirus now so he shouldn't be traumatised next time. It is always sad when I see my little ones cry when the needles go in. I shed a few tears myself when I had to take DD1 in and I was pg with DD2 (very emotional I was). It gets harder to hold them when they are toddlers especially when they know what is going to happen.
I better go check on little miss and do some more housework.
Its a hard one with the dummy. We use it occasionally, sometimes in the afternoon when Sam is a lot harder to settle and I always have one in the pram or when I am out in case of an outburst!! I have a friend who just refused to use one and I don't know how she coped!! There are certainly days when it really just settles them and comforts them and you have had enough of crying and screaming!
Tinsel - it is hard with the heat, Sam's room gets sun all day long and we had to install air con becuase the room is already hitting temps around 27 degrees. I don't think he likes the heat at all and is certainly harder to settle when it is hot. The problem with the air con, is he has dry patches on his face and the air con is not helping. I can't get rid of them even though I am putting sorbolene cream on several times a day, but at least his room is a comfortable temperature - wait til we get the bill!!
Heva - sounds like Isaac is coming along great guns! Amazing that he is starting to pick up on words. Sam has a lot to say and copy him sometimes and then have conversations other times, it will be so great when he starts communicating with words.
Miss excited - that is what I was worrie about, the rolling thing. Sam isn't rolling all the time yet but getting there and I thought if he rolls over when wrapped he won't have his arms to help lift his head up. He is self settling for his morning sleep at the moment and like you he is sleeping from 10 til 6am and I SOOOO don't want to disturb that!! The morning sleep I get so much done but I do have to do it some time so perhaps if he is self settling that sleep i could try one arm or something. It is hard when you are just starting to feel like you are getting a rythem with them and now you have to throw something in the mix that might change everything! I hope both you and Ash are feeling better after the needles. We have to have ours next week and I guess now that they are far more aware it is going to be tough. Don't worry I will be making hubby hold Sam too!!
Jasp - hope the cold gets better soon!
Off to take the second child( the dog) to the vet to get his cast changed again. Had my personal training session yesterday and got absolutely flogged so I am very tired today!!
wow - after a quiet week last week, it's really taken off in here!
I don't think I've got time to do personals, sorry...
Zac had been sleeping really well at night, but has started waking again. It's not too bad if he wakes around 3am or 4am and then sleeps until 6am, but yesterday it was 1am and then 4am - and didn't go back to sleep until 7am - and this morning it was 3am and then 4.45am, not back to sleep until 7am... and his day sleeps have gone to hell - he's awake for up to 3 hours, but in the last couple of days he goes to sleep and then wakes up screaming, looking absolutely terrified! The afternoons seem particularly bad. Yesterday I managed to get two short sleeps out of him by just letting him lie on my lap. I guess the heat's not helping, although we have air con in his room. Then he went down fine last night...
This morning he woke up screaming again so I rocked him back to sleep and have left him in the big bed, where he seems quite happy. I don't think he's sick - he seems otherwise fine and very happy, but it's like he's having nightmares, poor thing.
And he seems to be super hungry again - wants feeding again before 3 hours is up.
so confusing!! And I feel so bad for him when he gets sad and upset :-(
Sorry about the pity party... better go while he's still asleep and try to get some stuff done. Hope everyone is doing better than we are right now!
Well hayley seems to be fine after her needles yesterday. She kept spitting out the rotarix one (the oral one) so I don't think she got much of that one. But she hasn't been grumpy (she is in a much better mood today than she was yesterday!) and doesn't seem to have a temperature. If she was going to have a reaction I would have noticed it by now wouldn't I? It was about this time yesterday she got them done.
Went out shopping today, got a heap of photos printed at Big W to stick in some calendars for family presents. Not happy with some of the photos but I think it was too dark/too close up when I took the photo rather than the printing. Anyway they are done now so they'll just have to do! Hayley was good, very chatty in her pram, a couple of old ladies walked past and commented how chatty she was! Lol so cute! Went into work quickly and said hello to a few people up there, she was great, showing off great big smiles and even a giggle! Until she gave herself the hiccups and started getting cranky so we got out of there then! Back home now and resting in the air con...it is so hot outside.
Better go she is due for a feed shortly so better let her have a wriggle on the floor. Sorry for no personals once again..time seems to fly lately!
SS Storm - I know what you mean about getting out of the heat!!
Took the bassinette out of the stroller today and gave Sam his first walk in the pram as a big boy! I think he really liked it!! I think he is starting to prefer sitting up to lying down. Anyway, it was really great, except I realised how much more sun he gets over his arms and legs in the stroller compared to when he was in the basinette!! He is a big boy now!! Sorry just had to share the moment!
