I'm on those too, as a precaution cause I got it soooo badly with lumpy, let me know if you ever want to talk about it
Another busy week for everyone! We've had a phone line down for a couple of days so no internet access :-( thank goodness Telstra finally did something about it...
Jasp - back to tummy rolling is big! Zac did his first tummy to back roll a couple of weeks ago, and then didn't repeat for a week and a half - they definitely do things when they're ready and only when they want to don't they?
Pan - fortunately we don't have any of that early morning wind pain, but I suppose that now I've said that tomorrow morning I will be cursing you for jinxing us ;-)
BekZ - hopefully your week has progressed ok from when you posted on Monday?
Tinsel - re babies sleeping thru the night - my sister in law and baby had their 4 week MCHN yesterday and the MCHN expected that at the most she would be getting up once a night to feed him - a 4 week old!! SIL was a bit worried until I said that most of the mums in my mothers' group plus here online are still getting up at least once a night. I'm sure the MCHNs are trying to help, but man they can make you paranoid if you don't have a baby that does exactly what the 'average baby' is supposed to do!
Sarah - I love it when babies commando crawl! so cute. I think Zac is still a way off that, but who knows. Is your place baby-proof yet? Once they get moving they seem to get into things pretty quickly...
MissE - that sounds frustrating and painful for both of you. We've had the odd day a bit like that, but fortunately Z's still largely a happy little chap. I'm so not looking forward to teething...
ryatha - sounds like DH has some catching up to do once the cast is off - you should be allowed nine weeks with your feet up now!
Jess - you have had a full on week again! I hope you get a chance to relax this weekend and that Anton repeats his good sleep.
AFM - it's been beautiful weather in Melbourne which definitely makes life nicer. Z has been a real hungry little monster this week, but when I put more in his bottle it doesn't stay down, so he seems to need to feed more frequently rather than more quantity iykwim.
He's finally moving into 00s (he's so long and slim) - stupidly I didn't really prepare well for it and have found that we don't have any long sleeve tops or bodysuits in that size, and of course the shops are all stocking summer clothes... because of course we can guarantee that it will be 25+ degrees every day now for the next 6 monthsDid a mad rush to KMart the other day and found some fairly hideous long sleeve tops in the clearance racks - but if that's all there is he's just going to have to wear them I guess!
Hope everyone has a good Friday and great weekend!

I'm on those too, as a precaution cause I got it soooo badly with lumpy, let me know if you ever want to talk about it
cate - have you tried ebay for some clothes? dont know how you feel about 2nd hand clothes, but I've picked up a few things (that look brand new) off there for summer, and a couple of things for cooler weather. stupid shops! They started bringing out their summer stock before winter was even over here!
Tinsel - we have probably had about 10 nights of sleeping through (not consecutive..I wish!). Usually she wakes at about 2 or 3 in the morning for a feed, although lately it has taken a while for her to go back to sleep again. She has started waking up at around 7 in the morning...it used to be at about 8 and I am missing my sleep ins! Although at least we can take the dog for a walk before it gets too hot...we've gone from wintery weather last week to middle of summer weather this week, it's crazy!
Sloane- sounds like you'll be running after corey very soon! can he go from his tummy to his back? Hayley is great at back to tummy but gets stuck and starts whinging after a few minutes because she is stuck on her tummy..will be good when she figures out how to roll onto her back herself!
MamaPan- hope you have fun at the beach! Enjoy your break.
Miss E- I've found lately that Hayley is getting very grumpy by the end of the day. problem is she just won't sleep for longer than 40 mins usually. I can try resettling her either before or after she wakes but as soon as she sees me she is smiling and chatting away! Yesterday I think the heat must have knocked her around a bit, she had her normal short morning sleeps but then two big sleeps in the afternoon, went to bed at 7, woke at 8 but I managed to get her back to sleep without getting her up and she slept until 3 this morning.
Ryatha- hope you are feeling better, and I agree, your DH has a lot to catch up on...his turn for the housework for the next 9 weeks! Lol
Heva- that sounds fairly normal, I wouldn't worry too much. He is interacting with people, to me I think that is more important than interacting with toys iykwim. Hayley was a bit the opposite, up until a few weeks ago she wasn't really happy to just lie there while I talked to her and played with her, she had to be doing something or have a toy in her hand. Now we spend lots of time on the floor together having great conversations (lol) and she is now quite interested in what I'm doing. As the others have said, all babies are different, so I guess as long as you can see that he is developing (even if it may be slower than 'normal') then I wouldn't worry about it. At least people are a cheap form of entertainment!
Jess- hope you are going ok too. Hopefully you can get your washing machine fixed asap! I know my laundry basket starts overflowing if I leave it a couple of days without washing!
Not much new here...hayley is rolling around all over the place and I'm going to have to start keeping a closer eye on her or she just might roll away! I have found a group of mums in Wagga so will go to one of their meets soon. One of the ladies already contacted me, she is the same age as me and has a few other mummy friends around the same age so has invited me to join them as well, which is good but a bit scary...I'm not the best at getting to know new people! It's probably more for Hayley's benefit than mine, but it will be nice to have some IRL people I can hang out with.
Been a bit quiet here lately, hope you're all ok and bubs are going well!
Have been thinking a bit more about xmas pressies for DD and I think I'm going to get her one of those Fisher Price Laugh & Learn puppies. Met someone today who has a 15 month old girl and she has one of those puppies, Hayley loved it! Might go down the street tomorrow and see how much they are, I've found a few on ebay but if it's cheaper to get one here then I'll do that. Mentioned to mum that they might like to get her a high chair (or help to fund the purchase of!) for xmas as by then she should be able to sit up in one, or if not then it won't be too far away.
Hello Everyone! We are back on line finally! CAn only get ADSL1 as all the phone lines here are crap! Oh well, at least we have internet again! Have been trying to read all the posts over the past two weeks! Lots of rolling I see!
Miss E - hope Ash is okay? Is he teething? Sam is really enjoying sucking the life out of everything at the moment! He almost had his whole fist in his mouth yesterday!!
SS Storm - glad you have found a group of girls to chat with, it does help talking to other people, good to hear that Hayley is rolling everywhere! It is amazing it is almost that time already that we have to start watching them so much!
Sorry for lack of personals but will be online more now. Sam is really good, slept through again for over a week now from 10pm til 6am but I still wake at 4am expecting him to wake too! He is really grasping at toys now and getting use to his fingers! He has a few favourite toys now and loves looking at himself in the mirror (Might take after his father!!), anyway, I am back at work 2 days a week and his nana is looking after him which is great. Move has gone well and we are starting to settle in, apart from having to buy some new furniture, new dish washer and oven etc etc so now feel totally broke. Loving watching him grow and he is finally in 000, I cant believe all these people in 00!! He is feeding 6 times a day at present and in the afternoon virtually refuses to sleep at all, so normally from about 3pm won't settle until around 7pm when he is totally exhausted. He just won't go down for that afternoon nap but sleeps well in the morning for about 2 1/2 hours. Anyway, that may all change next week! Good to hear everyone is well and hearing everyone's news again!!![]()
It certainly did go quiet here for a few days didn't it, I hope it is a sign that mums and bubs are doing well.
Ash seems to have come out of his wonder week - a week to the day. He's still not sleeping as long as he used to for his naps (only about 30 mins at a time) but most days we seem to get one longer one which lets me get a bit more done. He is a lot more grizzly than he used to be, but I think he's worked out that when he grizzles we respond () and is beginning to asert himself a bit more, which I guess is all part of growing up...
Hope everyone else is well. Will pop back for personals a bit later, but expecting the little man to wake up any moment so better get organised x
Snap!
Arlea must have worn herself out during her week, becasue she slept sooo well on Monday night, she went down to sleep with very little fuss at about 8:00 , had a dream feed at 10:30 & then slept until 4:30am and then STILL slept heaps yesterday.
I was a bit worried that because we held & rocked her so much last week she would have picked up some bad habits, but it seems fine, she is still self-settling really well - last night after I put her in bed we could hear her chatting to herself for over half an hour before she dropped off to sleep! very cute, the kids think she has an imaginary friend
She has upped her feeding, a big jump from an average of 60-90ml at a time to 110-140 and a couple of 170ml feeds in there as well. Will be interesting to see what her weight is on Friday. She is rolling a lot more now, and a lot stronger with tummy time.
No personals from me either I'm sorry I'm supposed to be working while she is asleepbut will be back later
Oh but just quickly - yay for being back online Jettathat must be a huge relief; and Storm, what is a Laugh & Learn puppy? souds interesting...
Jasp - it's a soft puppy toy but you press different parts of it's body and it sings songs, and names body parts etc. Kind of like a Tickle-Me-Elmo only better! I met a lady yesterday who has a 15 month old daughter and she has one of them, Hayley loved it. If you search on ebay for "fisher price puppy" or "laugh and learn puppy" you should get a few results come up.
Yay for Arlea's sleeping! I really notice it when Hayley has a long sleep in the afternoon, means I can get heaps done. isn't it gorgeous when they chatter away in bed! Hayley started chattering away and blowing raspberries at 6.30 the other morning..I so didn't want to get out of bed and lay there until 7 when I thought I should finally get up, she was quite happy in her cot until then!
Well now I feel really silly - I googled it & .... we have one
Dh's sister sent it over from WA, it was her sons & he has outgrown it. The kids play with it sometimes with Arlea, the y press the buttons for her...so there you go
grrr...must motivate myself to do some work!![]()
gah - grace is only sleeping 1/2 hr at a time during the day, feeding every 2-3 hours around the clock! I really hope this is a wonder week. I'm wondering if I should start introducing solids if this keeps going. She'll be 4 months this weekend...
But she is really laughing, and active now makes up for the lack of sleep
Hope everyone is well
ss_storm - I look on ebay periodically, but haven't yet seen anything that either fits what I'm looking for or seems reasonably priced... He's now got a couple of black long-sleeved bodysuits which make him look really meanbut I can put t-shirts over the top if it's a bit chilly. The way he's growing atm he'll be into the next size soon anyway!
Also, isn't it nice when they can entertain themselves in their cot for a while? I've done the same with Zac and he seems quite happy chattering away to himself for a while.
jetta - I reckon being without the internet is almost worse than not having a phone!
Miss E - I think it's around this age that they start becoming aware of themselves as individuals rather than seeing everything around them as just extensions of themselves?
Jasp - it will be interesting to see how much she has grown considering the big jump in feeding!
Ryatha - Z is 4 months this weekend too and we are going to try him on some baby rice - he seems to be needing more food lately too, and has been watching us eat for a while...
AFM - OMG 4 months already!!! We had our 4 month MCHN check up yesterday - he is now 6.6 kg and 66.7cm long - average weight for a 4 month old but in the 100th percentile for his length! I think we are going to have to go up to the next size in nappies as we are getting more frequent leakage
He is so much more interactive now and his face lights up when he sees me or DH. He hasn't done any full on laughing yet - more a grunty sort of chuckle, but he's very smiley most of the time. DH's grandmother flew over from NZ yesterday to meet her two new great-grandchildren - v exciting to see her. 85 years old and she's such a cool old lady!
better go and have a shower while Z's asleep - like everyone else by the sound of it, the sleeps are getting shorter and further apart...
Cat,
Blake's been doing the same - I'm sort of putting it down to me going back to work (even though it started before then), 4mth vaccs, some really dry skin (bad bad case of cradle cap that migrated over his whole body and face) and a slight cold (runny nose and slight cough). Worked out that if he sleeps in the "recovery position" (first aid term) on his side in the cot he might sleep longer than flat on his back.
liz - the recovery position sounds good, fred is on her back, she likes to spread her arms out and she almost touches the sides. the mattress is still raised to help with her reflux but with the way she is starting to wriggle I might need to lower it soon. Not good about the dry skin spreading all over. Have you tried moogoo? it worked with fred and one of the babies in my mothers group. Her daughter also had cradle cap everywhere and she tried my moogoo at the begining of the session. Two hours later and it had already improved. she went and bought some the next day and now her DD has none. Hope work is going well and blake lets you get some sleep
cate - isn't it lovely when they see us and we get a great big smile? melts my heart
storm - certainly sounds cute when they chatter in bed, I love the raspberries but fred hasn't learnt to do them yet.
Ok, trying to be more regular in here, hope everyone is well
Lol Hayley must be the opposite! Or she has been lately...all this week she has been having some long day sleeps - yesterday she slept for 2 hours in the morning then a couple of little naps, and went to bed at 7. The day before I popped her on our bed at 3 so I could have a sleep too, I woke at 6, she woke at 7 and then was back in bed by 8. The last two nights she has slept right through, but she has woken up tonight and I finished feeding her only a few minutes ago. Just waiting for her to go back to sleep before I go back to bed otherwise I'm up and down, which I hate!
I think it might be the heat though, weather has been funny here lately, cool then hot, cool then rainy then hot...the heat must make her sleepy! She only had 4 bottles yesterday too because she slept for so long!
Hey Ladies,
I survived my week alone!! I ended up getting a bit of help from family here and there, which was great.
Eva has suddenly dropped her cluster feeding in the evenings and is now going to bed around 8pm. Most mornings she wakes between 2 and 4 for a feed, although these feeds are still up to 2 hours long. I much prefer her to wake at 2am so I at least get back to sleep for a few hours before my other kids wake up. It seems if she wakes around 4am then there is not point me going back to sleep. I do drift in and out of sleep but it is not a full sleep, so lately my days have been starting at 4am!!!!
I had really hard time of breastfeeding her a couple of weeks ago so we introduced formula. We only used it 4 time now but it does help when I just don't have the time to cluster feed. At least I know she can take formula without any hassels and I am so glad that I don't have to stress about expressing enough for emergencies.
Eva rolled from her tummy to her back yesterday and boy or boy she is vocal...lol I am making plans to move her into a big cot next week, that should be exciting.
Hugs to all
Cat,
Tried the moogoo (but not doing enough). Child Care commented about it, even rang Tim to check we were aware of it and suggested we see a dr about it. Ended up having to get 2 different steriod creams (one for body and one for face) and use QV cream on it as well. It's looking soo much better and we've only been doing it for 2 days now. Dr said it should be cleared up in a week. (reminds me I need to book a follow up appointment for it)
Blake likes sleeping on his back to spread out. But if he starts in recovery he can roll (in his sleep) onto his back and seems fine with it 99% of the time rather than starting him on his back. Mind you this is only during the daytime - night time he's usually fine to sleep on his back. Go figure.
Work's going reasonably well. I almost wish I hadn't gone on leave because my library assistant has gotten too big for her britches again !!!wall: She's gone backwards in her attitude to staff and studentsI had finally got her being reasonable 99% of the time now it's back to maybe around 15 - 20% of the time - bad mouthing of staff/students and thinks she runs the library. (she really shouldn't be any where near a location where any sort of customer service is required.)
eek - we have been quiet lately...we'd slipped onto the second page! hopefully everyone is just busy with their little ones & that's why we've all been quiet!
bek - yay for eva dropping the cluster feeds! and wtg eva on rolling!
cate - how fast have these 4 months gone? and at the same time, so hard to remember life before!
cat - how is grace going this week? was it a wonder week?
daytime naps here are all over the place - corey has been asleep for just over 2 hours now & he slept for 2 & a quarter hours on sunday morning but yesterday he slept for about an hour in total all day. and some days he'll have around 3 40 minute naps during the day. i guess he's still getting used to 'life on the outside'! i'll be interested to see how he goes for the rest of today - after his big nap on sunday morning he only had another 30 mins later in the day & was very grumpy by the time he went to bed
we're off to get the 4 mth needles tomorrow & then my mother's group has organised to do a baby/children's first aid course & our first session is tomorrow evening. has anyone else done something similar?
ugh, grace fed every twohours last night. I seriously need some sleep. I just reaslised this has been going on for over 3 weeks now and it has coincided with me trying to loose weight and cutting back on all my snacks... I wonder if that has something to do with it, or if I should start introducing solids as she seems hungry all the time. I'm calling ABA today to ask what they think...
Off to a mums group now and then to get lumpy... no rest today for me![]()
