Well, another Junebug joins!

Miss G will likely be home on Friday and I get to experience real parenting of a newborn, rather than a very truncated version. I am super excited. DH and I were at the hossy tonight we we got the biggest smile - it was awesome.


Lulul - so glad that you're coping with 3... that gives me some hope for myself.

Black Rose - this is just weird, but not only do we share the same birthdate, so do our wee ones. 4 May, and 12 June.

MC - thinking of you.

Not much else from me. Sorry. It's been a whirlwind of trying to fit a lot in, and I imagine it will get busier for a while. I should be spending my last nights asleep and not on BB.... oh how easily I slip back into bad habits...

Yay I'm finally here!

My baby girl was born this morning at 5:15 weighing an even 8lbs. We still haven't named her. I am soooooo in love right now.

I feel really empowered by my labour but it was a little traumatic. Funny though at the time it was just like okay this is happening what do I need to do to get through it. Had my waters broken at 530pm at about 2cms and stretchy. I was already contracting regularly so was on my way. Then I went from 2 cms to 10cms in about 4 and a half hours. Pushed for about half an hour before they realized I had an anterior lip and bubs had moved posterior and turned her head funny so it was stuck so had to stop pushing. I worked against my body for almost 2 hours not pushing with every contraction even though my body was pushing baby down. All with just gas. Man alive that gas is the ****! The dr then came and told me I needed an epidural (which I was dead against) as we needed to rest my body and cervix. I knew before she said it that I needed it. Rested and changed positions for a couple of hours and bubs had moved yay. Pushed for an hour and a half with minimal sensation due to epi doc was called as i was making little progress. Bubs was stuck again in my bony pelvis, needed the vacuum thingy and an epi. Almost didn't work but I found the energy and grunt to push her out without forceps or c-section. On her way out she had the cord wrapped around her neck and mild shoulder dystocia! But we have a beautiful little girl who stayed asleep and very calm throughout the labour according to the ctg and who has wowed the staff at how perfect she looks and how calm she is considering how much she had to work to get here!

I am so proud of myself for labouring naturally (well with gas) to fully dilated and against my body for so long. I am disappointed all the other stuff happened but am proud of how I handled it and don't feel bad about it. Had a big debrief with my awesome midwife and hubby and she and my doc assured me that I did everything right for an active and natural labour and pretty much achieved that (except the pushing out the baby part!). I'll have to write a proper birth story one day though. The only thing we got out of our birth plan was DH cutting the cord, us seeing the placenta and skin on skin haha. Best laid plans fail.

My little girl has just started to be interested in booby but isn't attaching properly so my nips are quite ouchy. She was made keen this afternoon though and DH who loves skin on skin cuddles too, got some chest hair ripped out and she tried attaching to him lol. We will persevere though.

Had just the grandparents around today and have told everyone else basically not to come until tomorrow arvo. I'm preparing myself for the onslaught of visitors. Excited about showing off my awesome little girl though.

Wow Dantri! Sounds like you had an amazing birth and regardless of how she got here, you both got through it relatively unscathed! Can't wait to hear what you decided to name her!!

Keep persevering with the bfing. Bubs is learning too. So make sure you have an LC come help you sooner rather than later so that she is attaching well and stimulating your milk to come in. The first few days will be rough with bfing. Your nips will hurt, she will nurse often and will be unsettled. Once your milk comes in everything will change and things will go alot better. Don't give up and don't think that you're not doing it right or not doing enough. Establishing bfing is harder than giving birth I reckon!!

Anyhoo, as you can probably tell I'm up nursing at the moment. L gave me a lovely stretch of sleep from 10-1:30 but was up again at 3:15 after I put him down at 2am. Also, DH is snoring so finding it hard to get back to sleep after I put L down. Having to keep poking him. Ugh!!

Congratulations on your little girl's arrival Dantri. Might not have gone to plan, but it sounds like you did an absolutely fantastic job. I agree with BR completely - keep at the BFing and get the LC to help you with attachment. We're still having huge attachment issues here, and it really does take its toll so keep the LC there as long as you need her. Looking forward to hearing your princess's name.

Hi to everyone else. Hope you all had a good night. We had the night from hell - Lexie is so congested and having such trouble breathing. Feeding is just excrutiating, both for me physically and also watching my poor little one struggle so much. Going to spend a bit of time in the shower and bath today to try and get her unclogged.

I cried today as I held Gemma for the first time, just me and her. She is sort of discharged into ny care and I am at the hossy as a boarder. Home tomorrow.

Dantri....Congrats on the arrival of your lil girl. You rock!

Dory that is so beautiful. So glad you've had a cuddle and will be caring for your little girl. Bet you can't wait for home tomorrow but today will be a special day too. Enjoy those snuggles.

Afm not feeling as good about my birth anymore, today my mind is processing it and I feel so detached and empty. I'm so glad my little man is here safe and sound and all the stats of the birth sound fantastic but I don't know. Think I may need to talk it thru properly with someone, just to process it all. Was going to do a birth story but not too sure if I will, at least not for now. If you ladies don't mind I would like to do a little write up for you to read, as I would like for you to know just not sure about doing a more major one for everyone. I feel a bit silly feeling like this to be honest, as my birth was in no way traumatic, but I guess these things affect people differently sometimes don't they?

Anyway I guess it's day 3 blues for me, even tho I feel it's a bit more than that, but I am thinking of you lovely ladies and your Bubbas, so so sorry I haven't come on here properly and paid the right attention to you all, I'll be back to myself properly in no time, and I really am not usually this much of a me me me poster, or don't think I am. Lol. Think I may need to Get me a nice big Marshall fill, that should set me right.

BR: I've tried the different positions and it doesn't seem to make a difference. I'm now taking lecithin because the LC said that may improve the flow in my ducts. Fx! Also am trying echinacea topically and internally and about to try the wedela cream. I've had no success with lansinoh. Wow you must be wrecked with marathon feeding. I know it kills me! How old is your ds again? Once Liam grows a bit he will be of more interest to him probably. My mum had my brothers real close together and mum said she used to keep the eldest involved by getting him to help with nappies and bathing etc(limitedly of course) and that seemed to help.

Dory: I'm sure you would have cried, I certainly would have. How precious for you to get to hold her finally, tomorrow will be amazing for you both :)

Lulu: have you tried those nasal aspirators(?) or the vaporizers? The poor chicken though, it's not fair. Also I have now used the weleda cream on my chronically cracked right nipple and seems to be working already...and that's after 2 feeds! I feel your pain...literally.

Dantri: good on you with your birth!! See all that mental strength paid off. Sounds like you did wonderfully! :)

Ebn_d: :hug: talk it out hun. Post everything you need to here. I think it's important to get these things out so you can move forward. Glad you feel you should talk about it. That's a great step :) its amazing how those cuddles do make you feel better :)

Milly: woohoo can't wait to hear how it went!

AFM: I am now finding showers are MY time and my piece of sanity. That being said she knows when I have one and stars crying... Lol. Lucky dh is on hand! Mastitis is starting to settle but my milk is dwindling again! She is now feeding for an hour and a half, sleeps the same and then feeds again. It killed me last night. I feel dead today, I'm emotional and a wreck. Had a good cry on dh, after I warned him I was about to lol. I have to say again he is amazing. The poor guy is back at work, and keeping us all going. He has to fly out tomorrow for work for the day, super early flight but he has stayed up with us to make sure we're ok. Love him.

Feeling so dead right now, hopefully post more tomorrow, or at a later feed to stop me sleeping!

Hi BR and Bubba!

Ugh, sorry my posts are a little bit average! I feel like I'm a walking zombie today! Xman was up every 1.5 - 2hrs last night wanting a feed, but then spitting it up. Im guessing this is reflux? He was doing really well, feeding every 3hrs and keeping it down and then yesterday afternoon I noticed he started to spit up a little after his feed. And then last night, he was spitting up almost all of his feed! He was also really unsettled and just wanted to be held. His temperature has been normal and he is still doing good no 1s and 2s. So I googled it and have read a few techniques to help if it is reflux and I am waiting for my MIL to call me back (she is a nurse) to check it with her...

Apologies for not being here much. I am reading along I promise. Still getting IV antibiotics a couple times a day and am stuck sleeping on the recliner again until the infection clears up as the IV is in a spot I cant manoover myself up off the bed cause I cant support my wound which is apparently open ewww. I just struggle to feel human sleeping on the recliner but need to be able to get up to DS so not really much choice. Oh well a few more days aint the end of the world. Just wanted you all to know I am here supporting you all even if I am not posting much.

Still feeling Average here. Ds2 has been so unsettled since yesterday afternoon and I'm nearly at my wits end. I did my first big no no parenting last night lol and left him in bed with us for most of the night as he had been crying for hours beforehand and we all just needed rest. We are thinking he has reflux, and I think it may be somewhat due to his quick delivery. Had our Dom visit today, and apparently ds2 didn't bleed as quickly for the heel ***** test as they usually do and said this could be due to not having enough intake. Hopefully his just hungry and this will be solved fairly easily, but he seems in pain, and some burps seem to hurt him.

Anyway, still emotional, my milk is coming in so I'm dreading the pain to come. Feeling guilty my body didn't allow ds2 the time he needed coming out to adjust and prepare. Wanna cry because I don't know how to help him and it was only days ago that I was giving him all he needed.

I feel so bad for just coming on the vent but I don't feel like I have anywhere else to at the moment. Anyone who asks how things are going thinks I'm just talking about normal newborn stuff but to me it feels like a bit extra, and dh is being amazing and is just staying calm saying we will just try this and try that, we will work it out, bless him, he deserves a medal.

Hope your all doing well, I can't believe we are all mummas and can't wait for the other ladies to come on over! Feel like my circle of friends is in half ATM lol

Woohoo to a better night mc_hope! Miss C did a 4 hour stretch then a 5 hour stretch! So excited this morning, my brain is completely mush!!! Hope you other mammas have had success!

Lulu: I'm with you with tomato now! Had some lasagna last night and then before we went to bed dd was so windy and sore tummy! Lucky for me she slept well after we could settle her.

Ebn_n: hang in there hun. One day at a time, one THING at a time. Was your birth BAD too quick? Like I'd you get damaged too? If you want to pm me the birth story to just get it out please do. Sometimes writing something out is great for dealing and healing. Could the formula he's on be affecting him? At breast feeding class, the LC had said if we end up formula feeding to try And get the better ones which have no derivatives of cows milk, as these seem to cause more allergy issues in bubs. Might be worth looking into.:)

BubbaT: forgot to answer you last time, yes I too am loving not having gd anymore! Dd is all good to for her sugar levels. What test did they make you do to check it was gone? You poor thing with the infection! One of my close friends had the same thing. She said it was like her scarred area was burning and crawling with ants. You're doing a great job! Hopefully x's reflux dies down. Maybe you can check what I mentioned to ebn_d.

Somehow I managed to unsubscribe myself from here and now I missed a whole day!!

AFM: as I mentioned she did a 5 hour stretch this morning. Amazing feelin waking up and realizing its 8am when it should have been 6!!! Dd seems to get the hiccups heaps. Anyone know a reason for this or a cure? Only thing that seems to work is chucking her back on a breast for her to drink. Not always convenient!
My mum came and blitz cleaned our house yesterday. Lucky dh has been keeping on top of it for me at the moment, but it was so nice I have my shower cleaned! 3 weeks was taking its toll lol!
Mastitis is still getting better. I can now occasionally ditch the nipple shield on my left and feed her normal. I'm taking it slow though to make sure using redamage it. The right side is still like the grand canyon!

Hope all you mummies are having a nice Saturday morning...remember when we could sleep in! Lol! Oh the distant memories :)

Little O the hiccups are actually a good thing, the digestive system is still so young that the hiccups help it along. X gets them a bit. If he is feeding I just keep feeding him otherwise i read just to do chest to chest and wait them out. I also rub x's back in little circles and he seems to like that

Hi everyone else, I'll try to keep up and do more persies now i'm here.

AFM - we've been at home for a week today and oh my goodness, it's a steep learning curve isn't it?! We are celebrating getting little things done, like showers! And our big win today after talking with our neighbours with kids was getting little J to sleep horizontally, in his basinette! DH and I seriously high fived once he was down and still asleep! I know a few of you were talking about taking your bubs to bed with you, well there had been a bit of that here too on those 'i don't know what else to do' moments. We're getting there slowly, butgetting there all the same.

Hotaru - yes, I remember having the one kid and thinking if I can just take a shower today then it will be considered a good day! Now, because I have DS1 I have to think about him too. So if I can manage a shower it's a really good day!! DS2 is generally awake at 6am to nurse so instead of going back to sleep after wards I have to get up and shower before DS1 gets up... Really hard when all I want to do is sleep some more.

Hello everyone else! Hope you are all enjoying your first few days at home with your newbie

AFM - L is having good stretches of sleep at the beginning of the night but then is waking 2 hours after I put him down in the wee hours of the morning. I nursed at 10:30pm, 1:15am, 3am and 6am. One tired mama here. Worst part is that I can't nap while L does during the day because DS1 is around. It's killing me! Totally different this time round. Poor L is hardly getting any attention because DS1 needs to be entertained. So other than the nursing and burping I literally stick him in a vibrating bouncer close by while I play with DS1! Totally jealous of all of you with only 1 to look after.

L is quite gassy as well. I do try as get him to burp after each nurse but I don't think it's enough cos he's quite unsettled in the early evenings. Of course that is also DS1's dinner/bath/bottle/bed routine so it's been really hard to juggle. I have actually sat on a stool in the bathroom nursing L while bathing DS1!! Not the most comfortable position but you gotta do whatever works right?

Anyways better get up and have a shower before DS1 wakes.

Hello to the rest of you lovelies...

AFM, not much to report here! My routine is generally revolving around X! I try and nap a little during the day when he does, because he seems to be a bit of a night owl at night! Sometimes though its hard, its like you get over tired and you just can get to sleep! :o My DP's mum got here yesterday for a week, so it shall be interesting! She is a lovely lady and we get along fine, she is just one of those "should you be doing that" "I used to..." and is a nurse to top it off! Anyhoo, I can hear my little man stirring for his feed!

I have one of those middle of the night eye opening babies too. X wouldn't settle for me and I ended up waking Dh to try, every time we put him down he would wake again like he has a reset button :wall: finally I think he ran out of steam and gave in to the sleep. DH is doing the Morning feed as we speak cause I just couldn't face the crying. Off to hossy this AM to be released from their care, then hopefully we can establish some sort of routine.

Ebn.....hugs for hard times......us too. I used to think it was hard with one! I used to think if you had one already you'd know what to do. Ha, how wrong was I? Just remember your journey with this baby is and will be different from DS. Be kind to yourself......you did nothing wrong. You are an awesone mumma. And know from experience that the hard times will pass. They will, and you will get through.

Bubba ....I haven't kept up much, I am sorry to hear you are having a tough time and are not well. Get better quick.

Well, we are home! Nights are unsettled here....11 pm to 4am......I relented and had G in bed with me for a couple of hours. I made a rookie error last night and managed to wake H at 1.30 am when I checked on her. OMG.....it took more than 2 hours for her to go back to sleep. DH came in and took over. I didn't really sleep til 5. G has been unsettled this morning and wouldn't sleep....5 hours...I eventually gave G 100ml of EBM. She settled shortly after. I expressed and got 150ml. G NG'ed 3 times this morning. So wondering if her tongue tie is affecting her suck or if G was hungry.....will find out I guess.
The struggle for me though is not being able to lift, cuddle, toilet, bathe H, lift from her cot, play. I miss that. I miss my special times with my HB. I love G, but am surprised at how much I miss what was just so special and precious. Always a surprise, this parenting caper.

We are wonderful mummas, believe in yourselves.

Aw, Bubba, I'm sorry you had such a rough time and what sounds like some very unhelpful staff around you. I hope it's helped to write it down and get it out there. You did an awesome job to get little X here safe and sound despite the trauma. I know it doesn't feel like it now but like i said to ct in the other thread, in time it will be how X is brought up in the world that is the most important thing over how he was brought into the world.

Dory - that's a lovely last thought in your post. This is such a confidence game, isn't it! Hope you are having a better night tonight.

Mc_hope - our strategy last night was (on the combined advice of our neighbours) to chock one end of the basinette up so it's not totally flat and we put a heated up wheat bag in where J will sleep to pre warm it so he doesn't notice the difference between our body temps and the basinette. Not sure where that fits in terms of being the right thing to do but it seems to work at nights for the moment. Days are totally different!

AFM - after a very unsettled evening, J slept in the basinette again and it was for 3.5 hours. I woke up before him thinking my boobs were going to explode and willing him to wake up! Not minding the early morning feed now I've discovered Wimbledon is on! We have our photographer coming today to try and get some more newborn pics - poor J was so unsettled the day we went inti the studio we had to reschedule. I hope he's better today. It seems we have a reluctant star!

Dory - I just read your post about our freaky matching birthdates!! Woah... *cue twighlight zone music*

Sounds like our babies are going through an unsettled patch as they get used to life on the outside. Also, the day night cycles being all messed up. I know my little one can sleep for long stretches its just during the day and not at night! It took DS1 a good month to sort out his sleep schedule so I expect this with DS2.

I've also got a nice chesty cough I just can't shake. DH has it too and I think DS1 is getting it. Hoping that I don't have to go on antibiotics.. The cough is getting looser, lots of phlegm.. Hopefully that's a good sign.

Little o- I'm happy with log in only. Thanks for your words, I'm slowly getting there, I'm sure when I have a second to think i will write it down. We are definitely looking into formula and bottle options if our plan doesn't work (see afm)

Lulu- hope your little one is a but less congested now and has been able to settle in for you.

Bubba- your poor little guy. Hope your going ok now, hopefully once your all healed up, which should definitely be NOW after the luck youve had, x will be more settled because his mumma is!

Dory- how's G doing at home? I agree with you, I miss my ds. With so much going on I feel like I have hardly seen him, let alone cuddles or anything like that. Lol at your rookie mistake, ds has been so buggered by the time he sleeps, which isn't until we do at the moment, even tho he is in his bed and room, his not asleep, we don't hear anything until the morning from him.

Mc- good luck with your MIL, and if she gets too much tell her your bb girls will get her! Lol. Keep napping!

Hotaru- great idea with the bassinet! Especially the heat bag, never even thought of that.

Afm- had the mchn come visit us yesterday, and she had an idea of what could be upsetting ds2 so much. Apparently there is a membrane of fluid that protects the babies spine and spinal cord when they are newborns. This membrane is anchored to the spine at the neck and at the base. Now, when a baby is born in an extremely quick labour (or a really really prolonged labour) they can puncture this membrane at either or both anchor point by rushing out too quickly and upset the balance of the membrane. Now, what this can cause is uneven cushioning for them, and also uneven nerve signals being sent all over the body. One way of testing for this is to lift the babies arms in a semi circle from their side up above their head. When she did this to ds2 his left arm only went up half way ,I nearly cried. I also nearly cried when I was explaining how unsettled he has been as I said to her 'i just want him to be able to wake up once without being in pain. He is always waking screaming in pain. It's horrible. ' anyway back to the point. This membrane issue thing, (can you tell I haven't been able to find anything online about it lol) causes the baby to not be able to get comfortable, arching their back trying to relieve the pressure, a lot of stomach problems as the messages are getting mixed so their may be too much or not enough juices in there at any one time, preferring to lie on one side, preferring on their tummy or on your chest so pressure is off their back. So ds2 ticks every single one of these boxes. Also we worked out he could be having alot more formula than he is, we keep forgetting his a big baby, lol, so we are upping his feeds in the next few days, if that doesn't improve things, as it can sometimes fix itself, then we are off to the baby chiro to get his back fixed.


Also we have our SIL and two nieces, 7yrs and 6 mths, staying with us in our spare room, no idea for how long, but ds1 had a horrible day yesterday, his cousin is his most favourite person in the whole world, and with all the other changes going on, he just went feral for the day having her here. She is at school today and he seems more calm, so hopefully yesterday was just a combination of everything.

Will be back later for personals but just wanted to say to ebn_d that it might be worth checking your little man out for dairy protein intolerance - you may need to switch formulas. You described a lot of the issues my DD1 had, and she is dairy protein and gluten intolerant. Might be worth raising it with your paed. Its so heartbreaking watching them in so much pain.

BR - How did your newborn shoot go? Will it be long til you get your pics? Hope that cough disappears from your house quickly. Thats the last thing you need right now.

Dory - It must be hard on all you 2nd/3rd/4th time mums. As hard as it is now just remember it will get easier and everyone will adjust, it's just a new kind of normal, but you also have every right to feel like you do. I guess it's kind of grieving of what was.

Dantri - How are you settling in with Miss G?

Lulu - Hope your DH is giving you some relief from his snoring now, I think I snore more than my DH lol. How is L going? Still clogged up? Hope the feeding is a bit less painful for you now too.

EBN - have you ended up writing your birth story? I am more than happy to read it if you feel like sharing? Sounds like you are really doing thingd tough at the moment. Poor Little DS2, sounds like the mchn was right onto it though. Will you wait long before trying the chiro?


Milly - How are you and DD2 getting settled?

Little O - I have no advice obviously on the mastitis but a big hug from here, I can't even imagine how painful that must be for you. What does the log in only thing mean? I would rather not so public as we share a fair bit of info so just tell me if I have to do something different :)

mchope - you have X on formula right? Is it by any chance a "premium" one (eg S26 Gold)? My sis gave me some advice when X went to formula and that was that she found the S26 Gold made her DD really unsettled about an hour after the start of a feed. She changed to the standard formula (plain S26) and waahla problrm solved. We are finding the same thing (see AFM) Anyway just thought I might suggest it, incase it helps.

Hotaru - I had to smile at the high fiving after you get the little one down to sleep, we have done that too. How did the photo shoot go?


AFM - X had a horrible night last night. He woke for his 6pm feed as normal and obviously couldnt move his gas. He was like a big ball of gas that just would never end. We managed 2 x 20 minute naps but then he was up again, finally DH got him to sleep at 2am this morning. He seems like a new baby today though :) He woke earlier and was so happy not even vrying for a nappy change and feed. We set up his playgym/floor mat thingy and he had his first ever playtime on the floor. The dogs were so cute, they sat at the side of the playmat and just watched him to make sure DS was ok and that there was no spare toys they might play with lol. Hoping the new formula is successful as we only changed over last night but so far so good.

I weighed myself today out of curiosity and I weigh 3kg less than I did before I got pregnant!! I think that is the only thing I am grateful to the GD for lol. Hopefully I can shed some more. Anyway better go before you all fall asleep reading this long post :) Time to spam FB with more pics of my beautiful little man

I am just jumping on for a quick much needed vent! To save me from screaming out loud! :( it's been 2 days & my MIL is driving me crazy already! I feel like snapping "just give me my baby!" I feel like I can't say anything to DP coz it's his mum, & he also gets on the defensive about it! Argh, bring on Sunday!!!

AFM - I'm on antibiotics for my chesty cough. I sound like I'm coughing up internal organs and I keep startling L when I am nursing and coughing. I'm actually feeling fine just exhausted from all the coughing! DS1 is at daycare today and it is bliss just having L to take care of. I've managed to clean the kitchen, empty the dishwasher, get some groceries, do a load of laundry, shower, eat, and sort out DS1's older toys into a box as he had a birthday last weekend and got some new toys to play with. Now relaxing watching TV waiting for L to wake. I'm tempted to put DS1 into Daycare 3 days a week instead of 2 days just so I can have more days like this. Daycare is so good for DS1 and he loves going so much. Yesterday I asked what he wanted to do today and DS1 said 'play ball with Sashi..' (Sashi being one of his carers). So cute.

Anyhoo, I'm still trying to get a home visit with the home nurse for L... Not having much luck. Waiting for someone to call me back. Frustrating as it should have been done within the first couple of weeks already... Ah well.

L is still sleeping better during the day and waking more often at night but I know that will sort itself out eventually. DH has been great. He gets up and changes L's nappy then brings him to me in our bed so I can nurse him.

BubbaT - yay on the weight loss!! I'm down 9kg and have 4 more to go before I'm at my pre-preggo weight. Hoping that the nursing helps me lose some more though. Sorry to hear X was unsettled. Hopefully he's feeling a little better now and can settle more easily
