Roxxie = I agree with Cass and Deedles. Talk to the carers. Just politely tell them the issue. Maybe you could supply your wipes and ask them to put cream on every single nappy change and give them a specific frequency for changes and see if this helps. I agree that sudocrem is the very best for rashes - after much trial and error with my son. Let them know that you will need to be checking in with them morning and arvie to see how things are going. My SIL is a carer in childcare and that is certainly nowhere near pushy or annoying after some of the stories she tells. Poor Lacie!!

Now that Soph is moving more in the day and I have cut her to two days sleeps - she is sleeping for more like an hour instead of the 20-30 minute catnap....I don't dare dream it will continue!!!

LJ, we are on two sleeps a day here too.

I'm also trying to stick to the babybliss routines. This morning Robert woke at 4 for a BF then it was back to bed but he kept "talking" until 5. I got up, swaddled him (hehehe!! keeps him still!), a quick top-up BF then back into bed. He slept then until 6.45 (when I had to get him up so he could have breakfast and we could go to work). He was making noises so I just went in and opened the blinds and said goodmorning and he was all smiles. Success!!! At the childcare centre this morning they put him down for a sleep just after 9 and he slept for an hour or so and they commented on how happy he was when I went to feed him at 11. They are under strict instructions that the next sleep is between 1 and 3 and I will be back at 3.30 for another feed! By time DH gets home he will most likely have dropped the 3.30 feed which is fine as he will be having half days (going home in the afternoon with daddy while he is on leave).

Thanks girls. I had a chat to the 'team leader' of the babies room today and they do use unscented wipes and latex free gloves. They use sudocrem when needed which is what we use at home. Apparently a lot of the babies have bad nappy rash at the moment after gastro went through the centre, they are giving them all nappy off time whenever possible and they always do 2 hourly nappy changes as well as if they are wet/dirty in between those times. I guess she's just got sensitive skin at the moment from all those explosive poos she was doing lol. Hopefully it passes.

I hope all of you are doing well with your bubs, can't believe how fast time has gone. Being pregnant seems like years ago, when we were all so impatient to have these little bubs and now look! We are amazing, competent mothers hehe.

Hi Roxxie - Glad you talked to them....when my son had gastro recently it burned a little patch of skin and it kept flaring up for 3 or 4 weeks. I just had to keep it well and truly covered with sudocrem or it flared up even if I thought it looked okay. Must hurt!!!

Squid - How's bubs?

Cass - I have just been looking at Soph's routine a bit - thinking about weaning her for work in January from daytime feeds....I have tweaked the routine a little and it seems to be working at the moment. I feed her when she first wakes (5am this morning!!!), then give her breakfast (which is hardly touches but my son did that too). Then I feed her just before she goes back to sleep (usually 9am and sleep at 9.30 but today it was 8.30 as she was up so early). She sleeps anywhere from 30-60mins. I offer a little snack around 10.30 and a formula cup. Then lunch around twelve. Breastfeed at 1pm and back to sleep around 1.30ish. She usually sleeps 45-90mins. Offer a little snack and formula cup when she gets up. Dinner at 5pm. Shower at 6pm. Then breastfeed and bed. She is having one feed overnight usually at around midnight. Overall she is drinking around 100ml of formula a day which is around half a formula feed.

My only concern with this is I don't want her to begin associating being fed with going to sleep so I will have to watch that carefully!

We've cut another tooth!

Robert is well established as a crawling monster now - he's into everything and seems to love his new found freedom. His latest trick now is to stand up in his cot when he wants out.

Soph is properly crawling now too!!! Thought she would commando forever...but she just started and now she is non-stop too!!

She is getting frustrated though as she wants to be up and walking - hopefully crawling faster will appease her.

Still no teeth here...just red swollen gums...

I spent the wee hours of the morning with a very tired and miserable bub snuggled up on my chest until he finally fell asleep.

I know how you feel Cass, Hannah is still waking ever hour to 1 half sometimes every 30 mins..I dont know whats going on, im so tired

He is still army crawling but getting his knees up, I find that on the wooden floors his pants keep slipping out from under him, he he.
I am so glad he isn't climbing up things like DS1 was at his age as we can still put the chrissy tree up without worry he will pull it down.

Teething is not fun. My poor little man was just completely and utterly miserable last night. I took him to the doctors yesterday (as he had a bit of a fever the night before) only to be told that he could see four more teeth about to erupt. I guess they are all coming through at once and giving him a nasty time.

Yes...poor, poor me.... why oh why couldn't his little teeth hold off for another two weeks until DH comes home so we could take it in shifts to be up with a tired, sad and sorry baby!!

We put our christmas tree on the table I use for sewing, otherwise on a bench if it isn't too big.

I got mine from a site of FB I can show you Cass. I got mine for $28 and $4 postage. I love it! Maybe ebay would be cheeper though, didn't think to look.
We are up to our 9th and 10th teeth! He seems to get them in groups of 2/3 at a time.

Deedles, that would be great - I tried rubbing bonjella on his gums but he clams his mouth shut and nothing is getting in there!

Yeah it worked for us, i had no where else to put it ,she doesnt even notice now ..It may look silly but its better then it being pulled down every second :)

Yup teething is awful, we have 2 little chompers and im sure more to come soon, i have not slept for more than 2 hours at a time since ummm i cant remember when:(

Another Zombie mum here....Soph has been up every hour to two hours for the last four nights....had a fever last night and today...her two bottom teeth are nearly through....Help me please!!!! I am so exhausted...Last week Will was sick and the week before Soph and I have been sick for three weeks...come through teeth and let this be over!!!

Don't know Soph's weight...haven't weighed her since she was 6 mths but I bet she is a boomba!!!

Well atleast I'm in good company LJ. I put a mattress on the family room floor last night and got what sleep I could with Robert.

I think i have only had one night since Hannah was born that she has slept for 6 hours straight, we got to it was up 3 times a night , now its back to every hour or so..I have the cot right up against the bed, with the side rail off ,she sleeps in the cot or in the bed with me , i just cant get up every second ,when all she wants is the boob anyway,nothing else will settle her and i just dont have the strength to try anything else atm.

Shell and Cass - I have Soph back in the bedroom with me again!!! Just got her into her own cot for about three weeks and she got sick and haven't had the energy to fight the fight with all the sickness....so she is in a portacot beside my bed and usually between 2 and 4 in the morning ends up in bed with me. She only feeds once a night but is constantly waking!!!


Shell - Soph has only done 5 to 6 hours a few nights too....it's crazy!!!

Had her back at the doctor today - another virus...temps all day...toddler getting warm and wingey so looks like another rotten week!!

Well - at least it is nothing serious!!! Just wearing...patience - I need it!!!

Maybe it's an age thing with the sleep??? My son slept through from 8 weeks (oh, how lucky was I and didn't know it!!!) but then at 8=9 mths his sleep went CRAZY and we didn't recover until he was nearly two!!! I wonder if it is common! Isn't it when separation anxiety kicks in???

On a brighter note = Soph is so mobile - crawling with speed like a little expert now...so cute!!! Pulling herself up on everything and standing with stability...just starting to cruise a tiny bit. Still waving and clapping but no pointing yet...think that comes about now from memory.

Let's hope all babies can be happy little well bubs ASAP!

Cass - I think Soph is nearly all better know...temps finished on Friday (they lasted) and Thursday night her two bottom teeth cut through the gum...Friday she cried all day...here's hoping today is better. Last night she slept a bit better - waking at 8, 10.30, 1.30 and then 5. So somewhat of an improvement. She fed at 1.30am.

She has been refusing food - i think because her mouth is so sore - but seemed hungry so I went back to the rice cereal yesterday and she woofed it down so that may have helped her sleep a bit.

I saw the child health nurse yesterday morning – who seemed very nice. Aside from under-feeding Robert he’s doing very well. He weighed in at 8046g and is 68cm long. He doesn’t look skinny to me and, well he’s short so he’s in proportion.

Well, she didn’t say I was starving him but she did say to bulk up his food (add rice cereal to his veges more pasta and carbs) and that a bottle of formula isn’t going to hurt – nor would a cup of normal milk (which is what I’d prefer to give him). She’s given me a booklet with some recipe ideas so I can get the calories into him during the day so he sleeps better at night. I also got some recipes off the Annabel Karmel website which actually look tasty so I’m going to try some of those.

Now I feel like a dreadful mum as I let him cry on Sunday night because he’d had dinner, 200ml of formula and a BF about an hour and half later. It took me 2 and half hours to get an hours sleep out of him and I finally relented and gave him another BF at around 1am. By 3am I was losing patience and by 5.15am I gave up and put him into bed next to me and attached him to the boob. He slept soundly and I woke up just after 6am to shut my door (Nic was making a racket in the kitchen) and then fell back to sleep and we both woke up at 7! By this time I was running late as I had to get showered and dressed and also had to get Robert all ready to go. I managed to shovel half a dozen spoonfuls of cereal into his mouth before putting him in the car (I didn’t get my breakfast until I got to work at 10). He cried nearly the whole way to the clinic and fell asleep just as we were pulling into the carpark.

Oh, the CHN also said that I had to get myself some multi-vitamins (the same ones I took when I was pregnant) – I didn’t realise that I looked so bad….obviously I do.
I had my four nights of only waking once so I guess that was all I am going to get. I psych myself up for a night of wakefulness so I don’t get too disappointed. Peter will be home on Friday night – I’ve got 3 bottles of EBM in the freezer so he can be on bottle duty on Saturday and Sunday morning so I can get a sleep in. I’ve lasted this long so I think I can get through another four nights (give me strength!!!)

I hope everyone else is doing well and that you aren’t all “starving” your babies!!

I'm sitting at my desk typing this post with a sleeping snorimg baby snuggled up on my chest (who smells like vegemite) .....I dont want to take him round to childcare yet!!!

Cass - Don't take what the CHN says too literally. From 6mths on my son was also supposedly underweight dropping from 50th percentile to 5th percentile and at two years old was off the scale. But he is healthy boy who eats like a horse and breastfed madly too. My niece only ever got to the 5th percentile and my nephew never was on the scale and CHNs told my SIL the same things. That is just my opinion. Kids will only eat what they will eat and genetics play a big part too. I was a skinny kid!!! (oh...those were the days).

Soph is 8.36kg....weighed her last week and looked up Will at the same age and he was 8.5kg roughly. Robert seems about the right weight to me...what percentile was he???

Remember those percentile charts (as my paed pointed out to me) were developed in the age of predominant formula feeding....

Further, research clearly links overweight toddlers with adult obesity and in a time of growing obesity in Australia I would think my might need to review those 1950's charts in light of new research....once again my little rant and only my opinion...

But, in essence Cass, be gentle on yourself!!

Cass, don't believe everything they say!
Bbaies will go up and down in weights, Hannah is just 8kg and if you go by the book she is slighty under weight for the average for this age, big deal im not feeding her more, its only a gesstemet and not how much she 'has' to weight iukwim. Hannah is on baby led solids, some days she will scoff everything some days will hardly eat, she knows when she is hungry but i don't so we go byt her, let her decide when she wants to have a breast feed or solid foods.
I do not believe that having more food will make them sleep better at night i refuse to believe that, it's just not it works.

I am still up all night every night with Moo, she hardly sleeps without waking , i look like hell, we co sleep as then i don't have to get up, i believe it will pass, i will keep going and one day she will sleep better.

Don't beat yourself up so much, u are doing a good job, u need to listen to YOU more, as you are his mum not the nurse not any DR no one else..U cant force feed him, he will eat when he is hungry, i don't think he is under weight from the weight you said, it will vary and change from month to month

ON the milk thing, i don't think you are meant to give his cow's milk till at least 12 months, he should not need any extra milk as he is breast fed,or are you planning on moving to formula instead?

oh Cass forgot to sy - CHN had me in a spin with my toddler's weight so I took him to my doc and she said he was a lovely happy boy!!!! Even though he was on the 5th percentile for weight...

Robert has started scooting around furniture now..... not too long and my little man will be off and running! They grow up way too quickly! :(

Cass - Yay Robert....It is scary when they let go and just start walking!!!!

I am really looking forward to xmas day this year as my 2.5year old really gets it this year!!! Going to be so exciting!!

Soph is cruising the furniture too! And gets from one piece of furniture to another...so can stand without holding on for only a couple of seconds...She is so busy she forgets to hold on sometimes! She finally can feed herself effectively in her highchair so the food battle is over...the pincer grip is finally working properly!! Yay! She loves macaroni cheese!!!!

Her two bottom teeth are well and truly through now. Thank goodness!

We are off on a quick holiday break and really looking forward to taking Soph swimming as she hasn't been before....take my toddler and still have to swim with him...her turn will come!!!

Separation anxiety has well and truly kicked in here too....my easy going little girl just won't let go and the minute and flatly refuses to go to anyone but Daddy. Fingers crossed it's quick....my son's phase went for around 9 mths!!!!

I know DD has been doing that scooting thing for a while and now she is also standing there by herself and just standing up and not holding on to anything ..When she realises she is just standing there she giggles so much hehehe, no steps yet though

Is anyones bubs saying any words yet? Hannah says mum , dad, up, get down and neng LOL I am classing that as a word coz its so cute when she says it lol

Hope everyone had a lovely Christmas! Ours was wonderful, was so nice to have Lacie to enjoy it with.

Still no teeth here yet, lots of bugs thanks to childcare and many unsettled nights but like a lot of you we are co-sleeping our way through it all.

She is loving her solids, using her fist to shovel handfuls in at a time, only a small amount goes in and the rest goes over her face. She's such an independent little monkey though and gets very upset if you try to help her out. Our CHN said at the last checkup that her legs are uneven and she shouldnt' be crawling as her hips must be out of alignment, but as she is crawling and standing I think the nurse was just looking from a wonky angle lol. She's not uneven at all, I think sometimes they are so busy and have so many appointments to get through that they don't really have the time to do a proper check up.
