Tams-I had to laugh at the comment sleeping through at this age will cause problems yeah right!

My 3 Boys were all sleeping through the night by 2-3 weeks and fed solids at 3-4 months my eldest is 18 on saturday and works full time saves money and has a steady long term girlfriend he is a good kid no drugs or running a muck with delinquents my 2nd son is doing year 10 and is in the top history and english classes he is in the top 10% of both those subjects (he sux at maths lol) he just picked his electives for year 11/12 he chose advanced history and advanced english advanced science plus metal technology and wood technology because he wants to be either a history teacher or a carpenter so he is making sure he covers both subjects.
My 3rd son is doing year 8 and just picked history,english,woodwork,and food technology and sports studies for his electives for next year he wants to either be a chef or sports teacher so i dont think sleeping through the night has effected my boys one bit i am VERY proud to have 3 well ajusted good boys i dont have to worry about them going astray.

And i am like you i NEED routine and for my babies to self settle and i teach them to try to do things for themselves first before asking for help as they get older that is my way to prepare them for the big wide difficult world out there but i have never had a problem with how others parent there own children each to their own as long as they dont neglect or abuse their kids then go for what ever suits them.

Kylie - I do the same as you at night time, although I do change A, simply because she is a heavy wetter and I would have a saturated baby if I didn't!

Jaki-I have always done the no talking stimulating or a lot of eye contact (cant so none as it is impossible) but only during the night feeds and that is only so they will go back to sleep i also dont turn on lights during the night i have the bathroom light on across the hall and leave the door ajar so i can just see what i am doing and it has worked my babies have always fed and gone straight back to sleep because they are still sleepy and not stimulating them dosent give them a reason to stay awake but i will say it is hard when you see their gummy little smiles when they know mum is there i just pick Ella up give her a kiss and feed her quietly change her bum if needed then kiss her again and pop her back in bed and she goes back to sleep.
I make up for it during the day she comes around the house with me doing housework ect and i tell her what mummy is doing and we have floor time and lots and lots of cuddles and kisses and blowing rasberries on her chubba cheeks lol.
But i do agree that setting a routine with breastfeeding would be really difficult when breast milk is not as filling and is ment for bubs to fed often and you dont know how much they are getting so i take my hat off to you ladies BF every 2-3 hours 24hrs a day i dont think it's easy and when no one can feed bub for you it must feel like you never get a break.

Anyway getting off the subject this was my weekend.


DH and i went to sydney to catch up with friends and family and to do some BDay shopping for my son who is 18 on saturday we got some fab bargins here is what we got him as he will now be clubbing/nite club age he needs some better going out clothes
$140 quicksilver jacket for $70.

So $620 worth of really nice stuff all for about $250 and i got DH a pair of Billabong jeans for $40 and me a Roxy jacket for $30.

And the other thing i did on the weekend was de-nit my stepdaughter you would not believe the state of her head she came to us on friday afternoon for her normal fortnightly visit she was scratching and had sore's and scabs all over the back of her neck i said what is all that and she says mum has said i am allergic to shampoo and she has sent some gloves and tape to put on my hands at night to stop me scratching and some detol cream to put on the sores :o i said did mum check you for nits she said yes so i txt her mum and asked she said yes on the thursday before she came so i said ok no worries anyway E (i will call her) was scratching and scratching and her hair just looked filthy so i said go have a shower and use my organic stuff it is chemical free it will help your scalp but before you do let me have a look.
WELLLLL HOLY F#CK!!!!!!!!!!! i took her hair out of the band and parted it and there was friggen nits running everywhere i was horrified i was nearly sick i called DH (her dad) and he was shocked so i jumped in the car and went and brought some sensitive organic nit solution i couldnt use the normal stuff it would have burnt her head and i got some pinetarsal for the sores and scabs and some organic dry hair shampoo and conditioner and then spent the next 3 hours YES! 3 hours combing nits out of her hair they were even falling on the floor as i was combing her hair it was the most disgusting thing i have seen her poor scalp is covered in sores from the nit bites and she has patches of missing hair where she has scratched so much the poor little thing so after i got all the nits out i washed her hair and soaked her head in pinetarsal to stop the itch and help the sores heal then i got on the phone and blasted her mother and her excuse was.
Well i checked and didnt see any and i said well they have been there for weeks for her head to look like that and there is adult nits and babies and her head is full of eggs and then E tells me mum knew i had nits she has been using teatree cream to try and get rid of them and told me not to tell anyone at school:o WTF!!! tea tree cream that wont do a dam thing so i blast her mother some more and she says.
Well i am not paying that much for organic stuff and nit stuff i cant afford it if her scalp is so bad its her fault from scratching she buys E $1.90 shampoo thats all she will spend and E is only allowed to wash her hair every 3rd day so it lasts longer OMG!!! so i blast the mother some more and tell her i have spent $50 just on nit sh#t and speacial shampoo and conditioner plus the pinetarsal to try to fix her head and i said to her mother i will send it all home with E for you to use on HER head not your own and she needs her hair tied up and plated every day and if she comes back to us next fortnight and you have done nothing to keep the treatment up i will call doc's and show them all the photo's i have taken of her head and the nits all over the bathtowel, floor and in her hair.
What a penny pinching cheapskate slack lazy mother that poor little girl would have been so uncomfortable all that time so i hope she does what i have said and next time E comes over i am getting her hair cut as her mother wont pay for a hair cut.

Ferrals, se thing happens regularly with DSS, it so awful :( especially as he frequently infects MJ :(
Even if she want to be cheap, she can get conditioner, the cheapest one she can find, and comb it through her wet hair each night with the nit comb and that will catch them as they hatch.
Also, when she has no sores, white vinegar works really well to kill them.

Shocking that she knew about it :(

Oh yeah, we have to get DSS hair cut too, it pi**es me off so much that some parents refuse to do the basic things for their kids, DSS always has new clothes, glasses and haircuts yet he doesn't! What's with tgat?

Back to the sleeping thing, I've been so lucky with Wyatt. He self settles which is awesome, we do one feed overnight and I can put the light on, feed change chat and sometimes even TV and he will resettle fine. Quite often tho if I catch him fussing before he wakes I can dream feed and he doesn't even wake :) plus if he has a night nappy on I don't need to change him unless I smell poop.

Jaki-that is awesome for a BF bubby you sound like a pro.

Sammie-I know and the worst thing is her mother wont even check her hair every night she get's the lady who does E's after school home care to do it and that lady is just as bad as E's mother her 3 daughters are filthy all the time and need a good hair cut and wash.
I told the stupid women if she just went through her hair every night and tied it up every morning she would keep on top of the nits and it wouldnt end up so bad i mean her scalp was red raw covered in sores and weeping it was so bad and all's she did was tape gloves on her hand s to stop her scratching :wall: i told DH next time she comes over if it hasnt improved she will not be going home until we get her head healed and if her mother doesnt like it she can take us back to court.

So what milestones is everyones bubs up to Ella reaches out to her mobile and can put her hands in her mouth she tries to talk to us all the time she holds onto teething toys and tries to get them in her mouth but sometimes smacks herself in the head.
She still wont even try to roll over yet lazy chubba bubba.

Wyatt doesn't hold anything yet, but if I put a toy in his lap he will slap it. He stares at things and watches very closely, loves lights and mirrors. He kicks alot and will launch off his heals. He rarely has 'bobble head' anymore so not far off the straight spine :)
We are going to get a jolly jumper, they are on special at target and I don't think he is far off :D

Jakie - i am sending Jack to you, so that Wyatt can have a few words with him and tell him that one feed over night is efficient lol

ferrals - that is just disgraceful of ur DH's ex.

jack grabs some of his toys on his rocker and pram, he found his fist the other day he enjoys sucking the whole thing - i thought it was quite cute as he kept bringing it to his face but landing on his eye lol, he talks to the pooh wall border when i change his bum, hates tummy time but luke was the same, smiles away continuously hmm can't think of anything else

I am going to sign up for FB i had a talk to DH and he said it's ok (remember we had a no chatroom rule) but i wasnt the one with the problem so he has said it's ok.

HI everyone. It has been ages since I have been on here. It has been so hectic and I have been away on and off also.

I've just skimmed through the last few pages and got a general idea on what is happening. As far as feeding goes here the boys go anywhere from 3 - 4 hourly feeds. drinking anywhere between 80mls and 160mls. I was worried about the 80mls but the midwife told me not to worry as they are putting on great weight every week. There is no way in the world they would drink the recommended 200mls. As far as night time goes, it kills me, lol!!! THey usually have a feed anywhere from 6 - 7:30pm and then again at 9 - 10:30pm. Usually they will go through until 1 or 2 am and then again at 6am but some times they are up at midnight and than again at 3am and then 6am. I've had two nights where they have a feed around 10pm and then go through to 6am. With saying that, they did wake a couple of times but I put their dummies in and they went straight back to sleep - bad mummy. I can't wait for them to sleep from 9pm to 6am. I loooove my sleep and the broken sleep kills me. It makes it worse that i dont get the opportunity to have a sleep through the day. Sleep Pleeeeaseeee!!

So, is this DFO meet up still happening on the 20th of June? Just thought I better check in, I'm looking forward to it.

Yay ferrals on FB!! Re the jolly jumper I heard the same thing, but asked dd1s physio, who specialises in paed physio and she said it is 100% fine as long as they have neck and trunk control sorted and its not used as a baby sitter. It's actually good for leg strength. Meanwhile how slack is your DHs ex W!! Sucks the responsibility falls on you.

Chloe is finally sleeping through thank god! Sometimes will wake up for a 3am feed which I actually love cos its basically the only time I get just me and her and she's all cuddley afterwards and goes back to sleep.

wooo we are back to lots of talking!! i feel like i just wrote an essay...

re sleep: Chase now sleeps 8pm-9pm to 7am bless his little heart, no wake ups inbetween. Then its the feeds during the day; 7am, 9am, noon, 3pm, 6pm and 8.30pm so I can pretty much work my day around that. He only started doing this about two weeks ago but I was soooo happy :) and i still am since my boy is in bed fast asleep and its 8.30pm.

jumper: I have the fisher and price precious planets jumperoo, haven't used it yet. I bought mine online at babyzonedirect even with postage was cheaper than the shops.

Kylz: so J wasn't teething...I think Chase might be. Not that he has any teeth coming through but he actually chomps on my fingers really hard and just cries randomly until he gets the finger. I think it must be a prelude or something to actual teething. He wont chew on the proper teething toys though, I think he doesnt like the taste of the rubber stuff lol

louise: how good is sleeping through???? :) I actually dont miss the 3am feed lol but then again its always just me and chase all day must be nice to have that special time with you and Chloe. I think I remember you saying people were saying stuff about you co-sleeping??? Before I actually had Chase I was so against co-sleeping due to the videos they made me watch in hospital...now I don't know how I would live without it hahaha funny how experience changes perspective. Co-sleeping is my favourite way to sleep with chase once daddy goes to work in the morning.

hope: shouldn't be long before the boys sleep through hopefully :) sounds like you are doing well in spite of the lack of sleep. I'm amazed at how well us mothers do with so little sleep yet we raise children.

ferrals: when I read that post about your DSS I wanted to punch her mother in the face. I'm glad you blasted her, that is like child abuse or something letting her daughter suffer with nits in her hair just because she is too cheap. You got some great bargains on your trip too, I'm so jealous. Let us know when you get on fb; and you can turn off the chat function if that makes your DH a bit nervous, i hate having the chat thing turned on lol.

iona: LOL little jack smacking himself in the face with his fist. Chase still does that now the silly sausage.

growth update: Chase bats at his toys when he is lying down now instead of balling his eyes out LOL Still won't be put on his belly, just cries still. He can grab this crinkly dog toy if I place it on his lap when he is sitting down and he brings it and blankets to his mouth to chew on. Oh and he likes to grab my hands and sit up when he is on the change table. Chase only just started holding his bobble head straight the past two days. I can sit him in his bumbo and he sits there normally instead of bending backwards :) Maybe a couple more weeks and he will be ready to safely sit in the jumperoo.

OMG I bought some of that rice cereal stuff on the weekend :) Chase is 4 months tomorrow!!!!! But I think I might wait until he is 5-51/2 months before I start trying the cereal, although I am so tempted to try now and see if he likes it hehe. He sometimes chews when we are eating and makes noises like he wants to know what we are doing. Still just knowing I have it at the ready makes me excited.

ferals, i never had a jumper for the boys, i got one for krystal and i am so glad i did, she loved it, only issue we had was the boys wanted to swing her. cant wait for allyssa to be big enough for it. i would knock your dsd's mum out! sounds like a right mole.

as much as i want to, im not bf anymore. she has ahd 2 bfs today purly because i needed the relife. mum come over sunday and helped get the house clean in return for me cooking dinner. over the last 2 days it looks like a tip, no worse. each time i sit down to feed her, trent goes threw EVERYTHING and it all ends up on the floor or broken. with the others i could walk arround feeding them, A i have to sit or she just giggles and smiles and mucks about. with a bottle i can lay her down, prop it up with a blankie and she is sorted while i deal with turd. thought day care would help, he is ****ing worse:(

I am figureing out FB so far so good until DH saw my ex friends with benefits profile pop up on my page OMG! anyway i just said dont worry i wont be talking to him.

I will be getting some sort of play thingy for ella she is getting so chubby laying around doing nothing and DH and i are short so she has no hope in the hight dept so her little legs are pork chops now.

Ella only wakes once between 2-4am so i am not complaining.
And she hates her belly time also she will be ok for a few minutes then forget it.

Please forgive me if i accidently ignored anyones friends request on FB i was getting heaps from work mates and BB members and there were names i didnt recognise as i only know some of you by your BB name so i just went oh! i dont know that person and hit ignore before i relised kylz had recomended them to me :shakehead: anyway i wil get the hang of it i just need to sit down and have a good look through it.

Re development Chloe loooves tummy time, almost rolled tummy to back tonight, but her den gets stuck then she cracks the sh*ts lol. Loves batting around toys hanging from carseat and pram and A Frame thingy during floor play. Going nuts on her hands all the time, peevrs me off though cos as soon as she does it whoever I'm with says oh she must be hungry!
Kitty can't believe we are talking solids already, all our bubbas are growing up too fast :(

Sarah - you did so well to stick with it for so long. I felt so bad for stopping expressing at 8wks, but I think it will be better for Elise in the long run as her reflux and colic aren't anywhere near as bad as they were before.

Hi everyone else, it's really late and I don't have the energy to go back through the last few pages of posts :(

afm - hubby is in melbourne, doing boring 1st yr apprentice work which a chef with over 15 years of experience shouldn't have to be doing... oh well, he's getting paid for it and gets to work with the bloke from "Good Chef, Bad Chef" :) Feeling rather lonely here on my own and had a bit of a dilemma yesterday with the weather being so horrible and needing nappies, milk and meat. Ended up taking advantage of a brief sunny period to get to the supermarket.
I'm almost back into sz16 jeans again! Yay! my sz18s are so loose now that they keep on falling down and I can't find my belt lol so I bought a sz16 pair yesterday and they're a little bit small and give me a muffin top but I can do them up!
Just need to get to Tony Ferguson tomorrow for my weekly weigh in now and see if I've lost any more weight.

As far as development goes:
At 2 months Elise sleeps from 10:30pm to 8-9am, can hold her head up for 10 minutes during tummy time, actively hits her toys when they are dangling in front of her, makes direct eye contact (DS didn't start to do that until he was about 8 months old, got me really worried for a while), grabs the bee-dangly and pelican dangly toys that are hanging on her bassinet, brings her hands and blankets up to her mouth to chew on them, smiles at everyone, tries to talk to us and mostly self-settles (sometimes we need to put the dummy in a few times).
She can also support herself on her legs if we are holding her straight or holding her hands out in front of her (a big surprise for me as DS couldn't do that until 6 months) and loves it, smiling every time we do it lol
She drinks an average of 750mls of formula a day, sometimes more, sometimes less (like at the moment because she is sick), and she has just started to watch us eat and chops up and down a bit on her tongue while watching us.
She is now fully in 000's, though the bonds wondersuits are getting a bit small every other brand fits well.
Only thing she doesn't do is laugh. She gets to the point where she wants to and opens her mouth really wide while smiling but no sound comes out. She's really quiet too, not loud like DS was. When she cries I have trouble hearing her from out the front of the house or just out the back door, where with DS I could hear him from all the way down the back of the backyard (and we have a HUGE backyard).
She also has a little grey hippo toy that she has to have next to her face when she goes to sleep so that she can snuggle into it. DH is to blame for that as when he got it he put it right next to her face so she could see it and she hasn't spent a night without it since lol
We demand feed as well, although sometimes we have to wake her up when she's been asleep for 4 hours straight as otherwise she won't drink much throughout the day, she's just a very sleepy baby at the moment.

Ferrals: The last week, I have been letting K do whatever as I had a growth spurt happening... ****. Thank god for a husband that is supportive and wine. Today is the first day I am getting him back to normal. I am just CRAZY!! I have never heard him whinge so much as the last few days!

Afm: Well, I am giving fb a break as I want to organize my home and find that there can be so much negativity on there it is driving me nuttah!! I am still doing ww but have just started the 17 day diet for a booster. :)

K is doing well. Whingy the last week with no routine and driving me nuttah!! I fixed that this morning and he is now sleeping! Yaaa. Got him the jump a roo thingy with animals... He loves that... just think he needs the stimulation. Thank you to everyone for sharing your feeding details. Think I am alienating myself and need to join a moms group or something.

Hey guys :) Been reading and not posting because its hard to get laptop time these days - and I hate posting from my iphone (seriously, does the touch pad keyboard bug anyone else as much as me?)

I just popped in to say that I've noticed a few of you have started giving bubs rice cereal/farex etc. I just wanted to say that the recommended age for solids is not before 4 months, because the baby's digestive system just isn't developed enough to deal with it. I'm not trying to be all pushy or what not, just didn't know if you guys knew why the 4 month age was in place.

Anyway, thats all from me (all I have time for - crying baby), have to go rock the baby to sleep while the other two girls are sleeping and DS is watching tv.

Great info thanks Mel! Bella was 5.5 months and H will not be starting till the same or latter. I'm happy for him to stay a bub - no rush here. Had a pead and MCHN and Ob (who is the highest ob in Vic - teaches all the other obs) appoint last week and they all agree that 5.5 - 6 months is earliest.
Each to their own though. We all have to do what's right for us.
H man is doing AOK for now! 8kgs and 63cms long! Growing like a weed!

Kate - OMG he's huge!! LOL... Sahti is only 5kg (very slow to gain weight) and about 60cms long.

OK, going to preface this with;

OK - i have re written this several times and can say what i want to say without sounding b*tchy, so please take it with a pinch of salt and put it down to the fact that i cant say things well when i am typing :redface:

When we all had the earlier discussion about introducing solids, there was discussion about the time frame of 4-6 months... the reason that these numbers are blurred is because they KNOW that the digestive system matures SOMEWHERE between this time, but there is no way of knowing which baby has a mature gut at which age, so thats why WHO raised the age to the upper limit (to cover all babies) and some health professionals still will say introduction at 4 mths is OK.

I found a news article that was written regarding the info from the british Scientist (something like that) after the discussion and it was interesting the rationale to switching back to below 6 months. to those that have decided to start earlier than the 4 month mark, i am not asking you to 'explain yourselves' at all, i am just curious as to the reasons why your babies need to start on solids before the 4-6 month?

I had a chat to my CMHN about this (introduction at 4 mths) two weeks ago at A's last check up and she said that if a parent is adamant to feed their baby solids at 4 months, they still recommend delaying as longs as possible, but also tell them that they should feed them something that is prepared by them not out of a packet or jar as this can do the most damage to the gut due to the added bits and preservatives etc.

I am not sure what age i will be introducing solids to A, however as per the recommendations of not just WHO, but medical proffessionals too - a baby needs to be able to sit up unsupported, have no head lag, no tongue thrust reflex and should be grabbing at food from parents/others plates.... so those are the cues that i am using, not the 'age' as once they are present i will be fairly confident that her gut is ready for the food that i introduce.

Sorry again, if i have offended and dont want to turn this into a fight... maybe i should keep my comments to myself, but i know that once one parent does something, everyone tends to follow that lead, so wanted to share my opinion and understand yours :redface:

Tbh guys, I could really care less. This world would be boring without everyone thinking/doing differently. I am doing what is the best for myself and K. I have done my research and I am quite happy with it. I have had the okay from my those around me and it is not really an issue, was just speaking to Ferrals I think?!? Or Kitty in passing. It has nothing to do with me not wanting K to not be a baby, just what is right for us and our situation. : )

Meanwhile my mum just told me her SIL so technically my aunty but we don't have anything to do with them, fed all her kids CARNATION MILK!!!!! from birth!!!! And they're only my age so not that long ago!!

allyssa had her first solids lastnight, krystal came up gave her a kiss when she walked off there was a bit of lamb hanging out a's mouth, i went to get it and the cheecky bugger swallowed it then grined! all the kids were having one form of solid or another once they were 3 months aswell, only problem i have with them and food is they eat to freakin much!! she has been prety good since, all happy and smiles like she is in on a big secret or something.

im giving the lactation cookies one more shot tonight. i got the house under controll with T was at day care today:dance: i realy dont want to give up bfing yet, just hope its not to late :(

has anyone got a bumbo? ive been looking at them but not sure on them, they look like theyd be uncomfy

sarah: i have a bumbo and Chase pretty much hates it. I cna sit him in it when he is in a good mood but any other time forget about it. I'm sad because for my friends baby she loved it, Chase is just picky. He might change when he is a bit older. but lol about A sucking up that lamb

solids: heheh I have the rice cereal but thinking of starting 5.5 months, just starting with once a day and then getting more in the lead up to 6 months for the 'real' food :)

I was going to get a bumbo but I asked my MCHN about them and she said that they can cause spine issues as alot of them are lopsided when they are moulded - I will just use H's rocker for a while I think, I know alot of bubs that use them and love them though!

I have one. I think they'd be ok as long as it's not used as a babysitter and Bub is not in it constantly. I tried Wyatt in it last night, so cute but he is not quite ready!

What's the go with walkers? I thought they were a big no no but they seem to be popular again!?!?
Who the F* know what we are allowed to use these days.
