Hi girls,

I am back again. We arrived home today from hospital (which was Alicia's first arrival home from a hospital as she missed the whole hospital birth thing). She had a temp of 39 degrees on Sat and we called Health direct line who told us to take her straight to hospital. I was pretty scared but her temp had dropped by the time we got there so I imagined we would be sent home but instead they transferred us by ambulance to a bigger hospital with a paediatic ward. They found a UTI then a kidney scan revealed she had an infection in the right kidney. After 5 days of IV antibiotics they have let us come home with oral antibiotics and then some tiny dose antibiotics (probiotics) to continue for 6-12 months. They said they really don't take the risks with little babies and that is why they had her there so long. It was pretty traumatic at first having to put the cannula in and take a pee sample with a catheter. They also tried twice and failed to take a sample of spinal fluid (they did not let us in to see that one but it was pretty bad for her). I was also in a room across from the treatment room where they do all those horrible types of procedures on the kids so I could hear all the screaming (they later moved me to shared room which was noiser but better as there were other mmums to chat to. Alicia was sick but there were so many other kids there that were much sicker and that made me cry for the first couple of days. I just can't imagine what those parents go through one little bub in our room had been there her whole life 5 1/2 months) . But apart from that it was actually a really positive experience, all the staff were fantastic and I was having a relaxing time feeding and cuddling Ali, then watching Scrubs on DVD or Days of our Lives on TV and reading and eating. My poor hubby had to look after the other two girls so he is very happy I am home.

I will make sure I catch up with all your posts and reply personally next time but just wanted to fill you in a bit on where I have been hiding.

Hi Peanutter (and anyone else who is reading )

I have 3 DDs, a 10 year old, 19 month old and 5 week old. They are all the most precious little girls

Things are going well, most of the time. Have some dramas with jealousy with the new bub and my 19 mo. But most of the time she is pretty good.

DD3 is sleeping well most of the time and as she is my last, I am trying to enjoy every last second with her because I just know how quickly she is going to grow.

How is everything going with you and your new little one?

How is everyone else coping with their bubbas??

I had a second c-section with this one, and I'm concerned about the scar tissue not going down. Does anyone else have scar tissue??

Anyway, thinking of you all and your sleepless nights and lots of baby cuddles

Elocin, id be giving him a dream feed about 10, and then when he wakes at 12-1 doing anything and everything to keep him awake for a decent feed.taking off his clothes, tickling his feet, changing his butt, cold wet face washer if you have to (used to do that with DD2)

me-lisa, thanks for the update - we've all been thinking of you hon. Great news that Alicia is home. What a scary time for you and your family. Great that the hospital staff took such good care of her. Sending more healing vibes for a full recovery ASAP.

Skye, actually yes, it does seem to happen then. I tried your tips for the last feed, let her have more of a comfort suck towards the end too and then laid her belly down across my lap. Seemed to help a little, thanks heaps.

Elocin, I have Infants Friend at the ready if needed! You're right about setting on Dad, Willow is the same. Great that Connor did so well on his first big trip. Isn't the screaming upsetting?? Love your latest pics at the beach. If Canberra had a beach it'd be the perfect city. Will be watching replies for your BF question, sorry I can't help (again!).

Thanks Skye... I thought that's what I'd need to do.

Last night he slept from 7 til 11.30 and then from midnight til 2.30 and then did the wake / feed / sleep / repeat thing until 6am... Cue sobbing teary mess (me, not Connor). It's so bloody hard to know what to do on when you're awake at that time of night.

I will try those things you suggested tonight and see how we go.

Connor loved the beach... He even wore a pair of boardies and wee rashie! So cute!

Oh, we had a bit of a poosplosion out the leg of his nappy too... DH put his nappy on but it was a bit loose. I fed Connor and had him propped up trying burp him and felt something running down my leg... Oh yes, I'm a true Mumma now

Elocin like skybie said anything to wake him up for more of a feed, I used to wait until after the first side before changing their nappy as it always woke my girls up when I changed their nappy. It also sounds like it might be cluster feeding, which is normal but at a PITA time. Your bech trip looked fun, its cold and windy here

Buffy its horrible when they get wind like that, Helena had it last night, the only other thing I try is lying them along your arm with their belly to your forearm, the gentle pressure on their tummy can help. If I eat too much onion, especially raw, it seems to affect my milk and give my babies wind

Razz from all the ABA stuff I have read how your boobs feel does not relate to how much milk you're making. As long as your little man is gaining weight and weeing and pooing I wouldnt worry

Poor Helena had wind last nigh, I hate seeing her so uncomfertable. Hoping for a better night tonight. The big girls and I made cupcakes for Easter with green icing and mine speckle eggs, they look very cute! Easter bunny has a cute outfit for Helena to wear and eggs for the big girls Cant wait for Sunday morning and the easter egg hunt!

Lisa- OMG how scary for you, im so sorry i missed all the FB posts about Alicia. Im glad you are home now and she is on the mend, you must be totally and utterly exhausted by now. I remember when Nixon was in hospital a few yrs ago seeing all the other sick children was so tough, we were in a room with a 17yr old boy (who must have been popular with the chicks cause they were always visiting lol) and he almost lost his life due to meningacocal (sp?) You just dont realise how many sick little children there are in hospital and it makes you stop and think of all the families and what they go through.

Ryker seems to pee every time he gets his nappy changed lol, ive changed a bunch of outfits cause whilst ive been changing him he widdles on himself.

i cant remember who mentioned it about the fore milk and hind milk? Maybe you could try expressing a little at the start which is the watery stuff then popping bub on for the hind milk? i had to do this with ds1 he was little and having poor weight gains. but they do still need the watery stuff so wouldnt do it all the time, just something else to try i suppose.

well i think my supply is picking up a bit which is a releif, i have been expressing as much as possible and taking fenugreek for the last few days. each feed when i am at home i try putting Ryker on my boob but when thats not working i give him ebm... whilst i am at home and during the day i can take the time to do so, at night time when i am a zombie im not gonna fight it.

Sara- i hope you guys have a better night tonight, i havent had a day nap the last few days and am really nakkered now so im hoping we have a ok night too.

I'm feeling a bit overwhelmed with how often DD wants to feed. She has gained about 800grams in 4weeks so I believe she is getting enough. It can be very exhausting. How often is everyone else's bub feeding? She really isn't keen on being put down during the day either.

Donna - Does your DD2 want your attention when your feeding or holding DD3? It must be hard, how are you coping?

Mind if I join you? Congratulations to all the new mummies and welcome to the world to all the new babies.

Our DS, Lachlan was born 29/03/12 - so is 8 days old now. He was 4130g (9pd 1oz) & 51cm long. A LOT bigger than his big sister, Amelia, who is now 20mths - she was born 6pd 11oz & 46cm.

We had a quick labor this time round - just 3hrs & 10mins from first contraction to delivery (DD was 10hrs 45mins).

He is such a great baby. The only issue so far has been bf, he doesn't attach properly and caused very damaged nipples. I was told to rest them for awhile and express but since then have developed very painful mastitis =( Hopefully we get past this and I can continue to bf. I didn't with DD - but did express for 4wks. Easier to do when you don't have a toddler running around too.

Hey Rosey,

Unfortunately I can't give any advice with the feeding as I have put my little one on formula, but she feeds every 4 hours during the day and feeds 1-2 times during the night.

Yes, my DD2 plays for my attention when I am feeding DD3, but not too bad. Mostly I just get her to sit with me and usually give her a drink too and read a book to her whilst Im feeding. That was one of the drams I was having with trying to BF, it was all just too much for me. I admire anyone that sticks at it, especially if they are having dramas, I don't know how you do it, I bet it would be extremely exhausting, but if your little one is putting on weight then you must be doing all the right things, it might be just a growth spurt. I think they have one around 4 weeks and then another at 2 or 3 months.

Hello dear girls, how I have missed you all! Have only had the odd moment to throw some pics up on FB, but today I got the chance to read posts since Yves' birth and finally now to post myself.

Lisa - horrified to hear that you and Alicia have had a hospital stay, but much relieved that you are now home. The terrifying intensity of love for my child I now feel just makes my heart ache for any child in pain or distress, so I can only imagine how distressing it must have been for you in the hospital at times. You sound like you coped so well considering the situation. Just thrilled that you are back with the family and hope that Alicia goes from strength to strength in her recovery.

Nel B - congratulations on the speedy arrival of Lachlan. I hope the mastitis passes quickly for you and you can resume BF. How has your DD been coping with her little brother?

Skybie - loved reading your great advice throughout this thread, you are a go-to mum! I am very pleased that you are sticking with us Addison's pics have been fantastic, she definitely spreads a lot of joy, your little lady. Awesome the bleeding has stopped already, was wondering how long it generally goes for (section vs vb?)

Buffy - reading your posts I felt like jumping up and down and yelling 'me too, me too!' (Particularly feeling your anxiety about sleeping arrangements. We have Yves in an Amazonas hammock, and I am peering in at him every ten minutes to check he is still ok). This is why this group is so fantastic, and now that the babies are all here I know the support and advise is going to be really great, especially for the first-time mums. Anyways, cannot wait to see more pics from Willow's shoot, she is such a pretty baby - her lips are just ridiculously perfect. Is her grandad (FIL) crazy smitten?!

Nickers - my heart goes out to you with the boys being so unwell, and Ryker's feeding issues. I would rather endure another c-section than have Yves feel any pain, you would give anything for them not to have to be miserable, but we can only do so much. I really hope you are able to find a rhythm with the feeds, but whatever happens, you are doing the best for Ryker that you can, and he will thrive. 200 grams in 2 days is huge!

Elocin - hello lovely! As with Buffy, reading your posts I can empathise and identify with so much of what you have been feeling. Loving the pics, both of Connor and the cheeky cats. Very glad to hear Connor enjoyed his booby-ride in the Ergo! I haven't used ours yet, but seeing the pic of your lad nestled in there encourages me to try it out. We will probably venture out tomorrow, so will let you know how that goes.

Sara-rose - Another super-mum with great advice! Helena sounds like she has slotted into your brood very nicely, and I can totally see why she was a big hit at the school outing. Hanging out to see your pics too... sounds like a great easter vibe at your place, enjoy the holiday.

My-litta - stunning photo of you and Arlia, just naturally glowing! Hope things are going well with your lovely big brood.

Razz - hello! nice to see a new 'face' amongst a group of familiar ones.

Zilly - how is life settling in with wee Sam? I have been wondering how your Keira reacts to bubs crying? Tobi seems a little more alert and will follow us around as we walk about trying to settle Yves, but generally seems to be adjusting ok to his new brother. Yves was asleep on my chest the other day, and his feet had escaped from his wrap, so Tobi gave them a good lick as he walked past, very cute!

I am so sorry if I have missed anyone, this has taken me so long to get through already, my brain is pretty mushy tonight!

I know I haven't given many details of Yves' arrival, other than a brief message on FB so here is a quick rundown to catch up;

Yves William (just pronounced 'eave', no s) arrived by emergency c-section after a ridiculously long labour, Thurs 2am til Sun 1st April 1.43pm. During labour my waters broke and were very stained with meconium... turned out his head was on a funny angle and he couldn't descend, so heart rate dropped etc. Despite the difficulties, once I saw him it all faded into a distant memory, and we fall more in love with him everyday. Despite DF being a giant, and me putting on 21 kilos in pregnancy, Yves was born only 7lb, which was a total shock. I had no clothes to fit such a petite little guy! My mother was here for the birth, but had to fly back to Nz after two days. DF's parents are here from Singapore for 2 weeks, so they finally met my mum and were a great support for each other through the anxiety of my long labour. Homecoming was a magic day, as they put up balloons and a welcome poster at the front door, and had brought Yves and I some lovely gifts. I am finding the support at home good, but would also like a few days with DF to myself, particularly as he has to go to his new job on 16th, and they don't go home til the 15th!

The first days home have been pretty good - BF has been going well, but I have bloody/cracked nipples from poor attachment that I only learned how to correct with the hospital midwife's home visit yesterday. Yves was only 100grams under birth weight the day after leaving hospital, so she was happy with that progress. After a frustrating day of formula feeds, then difficulty returning to BF, he has fed really well today so hopefully can stay on track from here.

Well I really must post this before I slump onto the keyboard. The drugs the hospital sent me home with for section pain are really strong, so I apologise for my rambling! Wishing you all a some peaceful zzzzz's tonight ladies, and a fantastic easter break with your beautiful families

Lol, just had to jump in to tell you that after reading that I had tears in my eyes from laughing so hard because I was remembering when Kyson was a newborn and he managed to wee in his own mouth during a nappy change! So gross! I learnt pretty quickly after that how to avoid the fountain.

ouch to the mastitis, hope it clears soon, i had it with ds2 and it felt like the full on flu and i had body aches etc too, not very nice. i hear you on the expressing, ive done it each child, ds1 was prem so had to for a while, ds2 refused the breast and i expressed for 4months and ds3 i have had a few probs with weight gain, cracked nipples and slow feeding and have also been expressing. Im trying to get him back on the boob each feed (well day time feeds anyway)

Hey Lisa great to hear from you too. Yves is a lovely name (thanks for pronouncing i was saying it in my head with the s) where does the name come from?
you did a great detailed post there your much better at replying to everyone than i am! wowsers you should be titled the new iron woman with the labour that you went through. it must be nice having dh's parents around but totally understand wanting your own time.

AFM: we went to our local Easter show thismorning which was great, the boys want to go to the Royal Easter show but i had already said it would be too much for me walking all day long and also for Ryker and with not having the feeding thing all worked out yet. So a 5min drive down the road, the boys went on a few rides, pet some animals, got a couple of show bags, all for prob 1/4 of the price! and 2hrs out that was enough for them.
dh is going to the footy tonight so first night with all my 3 boys. the big boys are still not 100% so hoping they go to bed early, ive just got to remember to put some eggs out before i fall asleep myself lol! has anyone got anything for bub?? the big boys keep saying the easter bunny will bring Ryker a pressie cause he cant have chocolate but i dont actually have anything for him.... i was about to send dh up the road just to get him a little something, and if that fails pull something new ive bought him from the draw lol!
