nic, how's Nixon feeling? Did you get to the GP? RE: expressing and bottle feeding, I can only echo what everyone else has said. Don't let those thoughts get to you - you are doing an incredible job with Ryker. No one would judge you for expressing, if anything they'd admire you (like I do) for what a hard slog it is. Life never works out the way we think it will, but sometimes it's for the better. Your little man is absolutely thriving, he loves you and we do too!
Bengal, welcome! Congratulations on the (very early) birth of Bella and Blaze, I remember reading your BA and thinking what gorgeous names they had. What a journey, I bet you're glad to have them home. I'd love to know more about the three of you :)
sararose, did H cope ok with her needles? I agree, housework can always wait. Good luck with the baking, I've only made bread once or twice but really enjoyed doing it - and the house smells amazing.

AFM: had a very peaceful day, we just hung out at home - so cold outside. W got to have regular naps and was much more contented for it. I even found some time to do hair, paint nails and watch uninterrupted TV!
Had more success with the self-soothing, it's fascinating to watch that little baby behaviour and get to know them. She had a lovely two-hour nap on Dad's chest this arvo while I slept, it was SO good. Will see how things go overnight, planning an early one in case we have another feed-a-thon. Catching up with a friend for coffee tomorrow morning and then heading to the beach. Looking forward to it.
I'd also love to get to know others on FB and see their bubs if they're happy to share. Just PM :)
Begnal- congratulations and welcome on in! I hope Blaze & Bella are going well. My first sone was born at 33weeks and spent 4wks in nicu & scn. Please stick with us, but one thing i would say from experience is not to expect your little miracles to do things at their actual age (im sure you know this already anyway) so if another bub in here is smiling,rolling, sitting etc your little bubs are a whole 2 months behind them, and then even still prems really do things in thier own time and may take a wee but longer than even their corrected age to catch up.

Sarah- i actually bought one recently off quicksales. it is a fisher price brand and its a thermo mug but the cap part that goes over it is also a cup, so u pour the hot water into it. definatley better than taking a seperate thermo thing plus a mug to be able to pour it in. i think i googled "bottle warmer" anyway looks like skye has hooked you up which is great :)
Thanks for all your lovely kind words, i know its stupid the way i think, you'd think now thrid time around i would be over it. you guys are right, i dont judge other people on what or how they do things so they are probably not judging me either, its me judging me lol! and i guess a tad jelous of other peoples births and feeding etc.
one of the lovely mums from school gave me her pump to borrow thismorning and OMG soooo much easier!! No more tennis elbow for me, i have been using the Medela hand pump but its hard work especially for doing it all the time. this one is "pigeon" brand i think and its quiet and easy peasy!!
So i took Nix & Ryker up to the gp cause i had already booked R in tomorrow for his needles and thought maybe he could see both boys at once, glad i took him cause he did. SO Ryker had his needles, little brave boy, screamed initially but settled quickly, then he was the quietest he has been at witching hour and snoozed away.... still had his unsettled period after that but i also talked about reflux as i have been their twice b4 i know whats going on so got him on Zantac, hoping it helps him, hate seeing him scream in pain and i know how it feels cause the reflux i had in pregnancy was horrid. Doc said Nixon's chest was all clear and just viral, which i beleive in some ways as apparently there has been a bit ofit in his class room but on the other hand he is looking the same way as when he had bronhcitis (minus the cough) the high temps, vomitting, glassy eyes.....anyway hope he gets through the night ok and see how he is in the morning.
On a sad note when i got home with them i see a helicopter in the air hovering, wondered what it was but then left my mind. 30min later i heard on the news a 6yr old boy had been hit by a car and on life support and had been air lifted in our subburb. My heart stopped, not knowing which school he was from (we have 5 primary schools around us) and hoping it wasnt his school and one of his class mates (cause i picked him up at midday). Ive since found out it was a little boy from another school, it was right at school zone time and at a busy round about (the news said it was a P plater which automatically u think prob not watching,speeding or doing something they shouldnt have) praying for the little boy tonight and it really hit close to home
sararose - yup, we got a bottle warmer. last time, DH would heat it up with water which would need to constantly need to get supplemented with more hot water, but that's just not feasible while entertaining a 2yo at the same time! unfortunately, the good old $12 percolator is no more, and we had to shell out about $60 for one ... but better than microwaving EBM and losing all the goodies in there, right? Would have been good to have been able to get a second hand one, though ...
back to the grindstone ... so much work! and so tough with my throat this sore and my glands this swollen ... I'm itching for the antibiotics to do their thing, and I'm really praying they kick in overnight! I was able to get in two decent pumps, getting around 300ml each time.
DS2 was *not* happy today, and it's hard to know whether it was my absence, or my boobies' absence, or his immunisations, or (heaven forbid) he's sick ... FX tomorrow is better, and he and DH have a better day!
Throat is so swollen and sore, and it's always worst overnight and first thing in the morning, so I'm kind of dreading going to bed a bit ... trying to tell myself that the body does its best restoration while you sleep, so I'll best be served by going to bed.
Plus I'm exhausted. I fell asleep on the couch holding a drink, and woke up because the drink slipped and went everywhere ... oops ...
DH took DS2 to his 8 week check up today .... 75th % for head circ, 50th% for length, 20th% for weight ... so he got a big lecture on DS2 not feeding enough - but he's been basically exclusively breastfed, wets well, poos regularly, he's alert and happy (except for today!) and by and large sleeps very well (albeit not consistently) so can it really be said that he's failing to thrive???

AFM, Miss A fed a few times last night, wouldnt sleep through our morning routine which made us a bit late, oops!!! i think the pouring rain may have also had something to do with it ;)
she was pretty good today, had a couple of good naps, but has been cluster feeding since about 4, at night she seems a bit refluxy, she falls asleep nicely and gets woken when she has a vomit and ends up screaming, which then she wants to feed again, fall asleep, wake up to spew, repeat (you get the picture) im not really sure what to do, might just see how it goes.

ive had a lovely morning with just me & ryker, went to the shops for 3hrs, started it by expressing in the car lol, browsed some shops, had a coffee while i fed him, bought my mothers day pressie :)
was annoyed i went to medicare got a ticket then couldnt find my recipts... sure enough when ive come home there they r sitting on the bench....
Nix seemed ok thismorning, no vomitting or high temps so went to school, my parents and FIL are going to the school at 215pm for grandparents day so they will bring nix home and my olds are staying for dinner.
just browsing through the professional photos online, its going to take a long time to choose what we want thats for sure. ds2 is so darn photogenic.

think i have about 2-3litres which im pretty proud of. When u get like 300ml+ is that after a breast feed?? or is that express only?

nickers - after my first morning feed I'll often get 300+ (personal best was 540ml!!) but mostly after a feed I'll get between 20ml and 200ml, depending on how much DS2 drinks, and how recently he fed before that... and yes, we got a chest freezer! Had to, because our freezer was cram pack full of EBM and there was no room for important things, like icecream ... and more EBM ... and you know, meat and stuff!
So the antibiotics weren't helping - and I was getting worse - so I've gone back to the Dr. He thinks it's glandular fever :( so we took some tests, he gave me stronger meds, and I now just have to wait and see ... :(
oh no i sure hope you dont have galndular fever thats worse case scenario and that takes quiet some time to get over too. fingers crossed its not, when will u find out?

But then there's all the little decisions: if DS2 sleeps through his early morning feed, do I get up and express anyway (to have more milk, stimulate supply and stave off any duct blockages and uber-leakage) or do I let myself sleep, and just pump and self massage in a hot shower in the morning after his next feed? Do I go into work and grab a pile of reading to take home to catch up on (as I can't go in on Mon or Tues, according to the Dr) or is reading not "resting"?

peanutter hope its not Glandular fever not what you need with a new bub and going back to work. Take it as easy as you can with 2 kids and a busy job

H had her 5.5hr sleep last ngiht but instead of going to bed when she did I stayed up and watched TV :doh:. Then she woke at 3 and didnt settle until 6 am so I feel like the walking dead today! I think the vaccinations have been bothering her as she kept dozing off then waking screaming, which she hasnt done before. She was fairly settled until about 5 am and has been crying on and off up until now
DH has torn his hamstring so cant play rugby tomorrow but instead of spending the arvo with us he has decided he needs to go and watch his team play and will be gone from 10.30 until 6.30 ish. Im so over it. He retired two years ago but then decided as I was on maternity leave and not working weekends he could play again, I would have much preferred having him around saturdays and tuesday and thursday nights with the three kids. I know he really enjoys it I just wished it didnt take him away from me and the kids so much. The nights he trains he sees the girls for about 30 mins between work and training. Anyway just had to have a vent, feel better now Ive got it off my chest.

My DH was giving me a hard time about resuming things in the bedroom too! We did once at 5 weeks, but I had some pain afterwards, so I made him wait another 2 weeks, but since then things have been pretty good. Although, most nights I am tired so the libido is not the highest! I get the whole thing about our bodies not being ours though, sometimes it feels like we give up so much and it is all just taken for granted!
We have managed to get some daily routines going and it seems to help to keep me sane, and Pippa is sleeping well so that also helps with getting the other 2 organised. Pippa still has reflux, but some days are worse than others. I've got her booked in the doctors next week as her poo is a really dark green colour and I just want to check that things are okay.
We are relocating to NSW in 3 weeks, so I am going to be busy packing and getting organised, but I am going to try and get on here daily so I don't miss out on too much :p

Better night for us lasst night so I had the energy to go to bunnings with the girls, mum came and gave me a hand. They got to paint a flower pot and decorate it then plant a pansy or lavender in it, they also got a play on the indoor playground and had a sausage for lunch. The big girls were in exhausted/meltdown mode when we got home (they had gotten up at 5 am according to DH!) so I made them sit on their beds and have a rest, both fell asleep within 2 minutes and Helena was asleep so I made my first ever loaf of bread, Helena fed while it was rising then I woke the big girls up and they helped make the dough for cream buns. DH got home earlier than expected from rugby so we had leftover pumpkin soup and fresh bread slathered with butter for dinner and a cream bun after. All very tasty but we are well and truly in carb overload :lol:

Wow Donna, you really do have your hands full with a newborn and an interstate move coming up. Fingers crossed it all goes really smoothly for you. By the way, I love the name Pippa, so cute! Hope your appt with the doc goes well. I can understand your concern with the green poo. My DS1 had dark green poos all the time from when he was about two or three weeks until well after he started solids. In his case, everything else was normal so the MCHN and GP told me there was nothing to worry about. I have heard that it can be related to them not getting enough hind milk, but then I tend to think all milk is good milk and the breast adjusts to meet supply and demand, so the theory of only getting foremilk doesn't quite make sense if you know what I mean :dunno:
Sara, I so understand your frustrations! It's so nice to stay up and watch a few shows, have a little time for yourself, but then you pay for not going to bed early and miss the longest stretch of the night. Your dinner sounds super yum! Making me drool just reading about it. I've been thinking that it's time to make my first soup of the season, now I'm feeling all inspired to do a batch of pumpkin.

Well, I had my first full day flying solo with both the boys on Friday and I have to say it went pretty well. There were only a couple of moments when I got flustered, and really they were pretty short lived. All in all I feel really good about it, mind you DS1 did have about twice as much screen time as I like, but hey you gotta do what you gotta do. I also think it was really good for him to have a day at home with just me, like he used to before Coop's arrived. He seemed so much happier than he has been the last couple of weeks, both yesterday and today. So fingers crossed we're finding our groove and settling into normality.
Coop's on the other hand has been a little more unsettled than usual the last week. I'm a little worried that he might be developing reflux. He's always been a bit spewy but it wasn't really bothering him (DS1 was also a big happy chucker), but over the last few days he showed some of the signs of reflux, but only at one or two feeds. Is that normal? Do they normally develop it at this stage? I am also wondering if it might be related to the Osteo's adjustments. She sent me an email on Tuesday saying that he would be feeling the effects of his treatment and might be a bit irritable, and that's around about when it started. We see her again next week, so I will be sure to ask.
Anyway, that's about it for me. Hope everyone is well and enjoying the weekend with their families.

the drugs are doing their thing, and I can talk again. I reckon the swelling is down to only 40% and the pain is down to 20% ... this is looking good, and I'm really praying that it will all be back to normal by morning ... and that the blood tests come up clean on Tuesday :)
and nickers - don't read too much into the personal bests ... I only got 20mls earlier during one of my pumps ... ever drop counts, that's my view anyway!

Connor has been waking every 2 hours for the last few nights but barely feeding. I think he might be cold because he cuddles in and goes straight back to sleep while in my chest.
I'm going to the shops today so should I invest in a swaddle or a Grobag??
Long Sleeve Onesie with singlet underneath. Then I swaddle her in a cotton wrap. Then a blanket tucked tightly over bubs and under bassinette mattress. It's not freezing where I am though.:

Do u have a thermometer in the room to know what temp it is? I have an avent One which u can also put in water when bathing, but ryker wears a bonds singled which buttons like a onsie, then either a wondersuit which covers feet and hands or some other suit and socks on his hands. Then he is wrapped up I put a beanie on him the last few nights and he has 2 lighter wrap/sheets plus a thicker one mote blanket like. The temp in his room last night said 18 which felt quite cold. He slept snugly for 6hrs so I figure his temp is just right
Helena wakes heaps more when she isn't toastie. She doesn't like being swaddled so I'm putting her in a jumpsuit with mittens and a 2.5tog grobag. We have been having the heater o. Until H wants a feed around 9-10pm then I change her put heron the grobag and turn the heater off and then pop her down for the night after the feed. Has been working well as a. Night routines she has her big sleep then. Overnight our room is about 16-18c
During the day I use a light blanket as I prefer her her to have her short sleeps during the day :)
I got grobags on eBay from the uk for half the price

GAHHH, quick vent. Breastfeeding, it can be awesome or it can suck... or not suck, in the case of my son! He has started to fuss and scream after only a minute or so of latching, and I am using several position changes and swapping boobs constantly to try and get enough milk into him to settle him down. He is using my nips like bubble gum and I just feel sore and grumpy every time I need to feed him. I feel guilty as I know its my fault - due to the pain I have given him a bottle too often lately, and he is now getting frustrated with my slower delivery system. So I realise I have to get back to a steady supply by bf often and also pumping more frequently. Have just ordered a Medela Swing, as have been using a medela manual pump and I HATE that stupid thing! (DF calls it the plastic masturbator!) Nickers, I have no idea how you have been using one for all your feeds, that is just incredible! No wonder you were getting tennis elbow! Glad you have got an electric pump now. Really hoping the swing will work better for me and we can get back on track asap.
Anyway, thanks for listening to that rant, I have been reading so much lately about bf and was getting a bit wound up about the situation, so just needed to get that out.
Peanutter - so glad you are feeling better, really hope you can get some rest and fully recover before heading back to the office.
Everyone else - happy Sunday evening! We have walked and bathed the dog, fed and settled the bub, and are now nestling down in front of the fire with some new magazines :thumbsup: Hopefully some peace awaits you all tonight ladies x
elocin: DS2 sleeps in a singlet, full length romper, and we wrap him, then there's a sheet and light blanket over him, to his chinny-chin-chin. otherwise, singlet, long arm no leg romper, and a thick sleeping bag. most of our sleeping bags were either gifts or picked up second hand at baby markets (for $8 each! score!)

lct: with the pulling off and screaming - DS1 did this for a period around 6 weeks old. it was frustrating, upsetting, and just completely sucked balls ... and then it stopped as randomly and suddenly as it started. I remember posting about it, and so many other women jumped on to say their little ones did a similar thing, between 5-9 weeks and that there's a wonderweek in there, etc etc ... yay for the electric pump: one of my best investments ever, and I mean EVER. I had to use a manual one once, and I got something like 40 ml from half an hours work!! I was so peed off, given I (at that point) would normally have pumped 40ml in the first 2-3 minutes, and would have ended up with 240ml or so ... gah! I don't know why, but those manual ones and my boobies just don't communicate ... I hope you (and nickers!!) get lots more love from the Swing.
Sorry for the me me's girls, will try catch up properly tomorrow, just wanted to post about A's nap she's currently having, 2 whole hrs so far!!!!!!
i swaddle her in the kiddapotomus wrap with the velcros, and she was complaining like anything about not being able to move her arms (which is why i stopped using it) i nearly took it off her but i thought no, we'll give it a proper go, fed her and she nodded off, put her very carefully into her bassinet and she's been there since 5!!!!! OMG! if she keeps this up i might not send her back ;)
lct - I agree with peanutter - also it's likely nothing to do with your bbs or milk hon. W was the same about 10 days ago and still has a couple of really fussy feeds during the day. We've been using a bottle once a day or so too but I don't think it's anything to do with that as she feeds beautifully when sleepy or relaxed. After lots of reading like you and talking to the ABA I worked out it was a combo of her being over-tired and having a forceful letdown. It's almost always because she's tired or having an off day though. It's so frustrating and can be a bit upsetting too, I totally hear you! Hang in there, am sure Y is getting the good stuff and you are doing a fantastic job with him. Best of luck with the electric pump, I have a mini Medela one and it's great. If yours is a bit uncomfy when you get it, make sure you have the right size flange; I went up a size and it made a huge difference.
P, good to hear the drugs are doing their thing and you're on the mend. Hope you had a good weekend.

Tonight it's singlet, footed long-sleeve onsie, cotton swaddle (she won't settle with arms out) and two light blankets up to her chin. We also have an oil heater in her room. Have had much better arvo naps with this too.

AFM: had a wonderful weekend at the south coast, didn't want to leave! W did so well, conked out in the car both ways and had four-hour naps in the evenings. Also slept overnight in three-hour blocks, including sleep-in til 8:30! A bit restless last night but it was poop day, so 'The Gruntening' as we call it went from 4:30-6:30. Still, she was pretty relaxed all weekend and seemed to love the travel bassinette as it's smaller and more snuggy than the one at home; so we're now using it for all sleeps. Weather was gorgeous and it was nice to have the in-laws look after food and have lots of W cuddles. Not much planned for this week, six-week check plus shots, first trip to Costco and if I'm brave, a movie with a buddy while DH plays SAHD. It's his last week of leave so gotta make the most of it.
Thanks for your advice girls! I put a cotton beanie and an extra blanket on him as well as put the oil heater on low and he only woke at 11.30, 3.30 and 6.30... So MUCH better then the previous nights.
I need to research Grobags... I showed DH at the shops yesterday, but he's worried about C over heating while wearing it. Must look into it a bit more.

DH is in Adelaide again to tonight. He left at 4.30am this morning and of course, C and I were up to see him go :)
My parents are coming up today for a couple of nights... They are having Connor withdrawals and couldn't wait until the end of the month to see him.
I had a pretty ****ty end of week last week... Just feeling a bit down. I have to make sure I force myself to get out of the house... I cancelled on my ABA meeting but then felt worse for it. Am feeling better now, even though I'm functioning on less sleep.

Just be careful with a beanie on him over night that it doesnt slide over his face when hes wriggles, I cant even put one on a in the car because she moves her head so much!

Was just going to suggest you also have a look at the Merino wool bags. I love them! The merino wool is an amazing fabric and the bags can be used for temps between 18 and 30 degrees, so you don't have to worry about buying different tog rated ones for summer and winter, or about them overheating in them. I'm a big fan of the Merino Kids brand stuff, I bought 2 bags for DS1 (newborn to 2 years size) when he was a baby and they've lasted really well. I've actually just started putting Cooper in them. They are a bit more exxy than Grobags, but you get so much more use out of them, which IMO makes them cheaper overall. HTH:

Well after i posted about A's great nap last night, i had to wake her at 8 because it was coffee night at the Bff's, was going to leave her but DF was super tired and i thought id just take her, friends house is literally 2 minutes down the rd so wouldnt have been a huge issue if i'd left her but knowing my luck i would have been gone all of ten minutes and she would have woken!
got to BFF's and fed her about 830, wrapped her up and she slept until it was time time to leave abt 11!! then we got home, chenged her butt and wrapped her again fed her, thought we were good to go for a sleep but no, little muffet thought it was play time....till 1 am!!!! i gave in in the end and bought her to bed with me and she mucked about for another hr or so before finally crashing, needless to say i am knackered today! actually feeling a bit giddy in the head
Skye, sounds like the wrapping is helping A sleep soundly - except when you want her to! 1:00am play time is the funnest, apparently! I hate that dizzy tired feeling, take it easy today. Will you get a chance to catch some z's or too busy?
Elocin, biggest belated hugs for last week lovely. I'm sorry it was so crappy. Hopefully this week is much better, kicking off with a visit from your parents :) when does your DH return? So great that Mr C is all warm and cosy now too. A friend is lending us some grobags when W is bigger, for now we use Halo Sleepsacks and Kiddopotomus swaddles like Skye. They're both lightweight cotton but add a couple of layers, and are the only two brands W can't get her arms out of. I call them her cotton prisons ;)

W definitely has her timing mixed up, very long naps yesterday arvo and evening up til 3:00 and then up every 1.5-2 hours afterwards. Not too bad though, I got a good block beforehand and she had a little sleep-in with us in bed this morning. Boring errand day today - crummy weather.

I was going to buy a Woombie or Ergo swaddle yesterday but then I realised that very rarely does C get his hands out when I wrap him properly... So I went to Big W and just bought some stretch cotton wraps.
I've been looking on eBay & Gumtree and have found some Grobags quite cheap, so I might give one of those a go and see what happens.
Skye and Buffy sounds like your little ladies should have got together for a late night party yesterday :) Hope you guys get some more sleep tonight

Lct enjoy your swing, I love mine. I used a manual avent pump with dd1 but with dd2 I got the swing as I needed a quick pump with 2 kids to look after and it was so worth the investment. My friends sister borrowed mine and now I have it back so third child and its still going strong :)
Helena had an extra wakeup last night, I was getting used to only getting up once during the night and it threw me a bit! Had a nice day at ikea with my mum and sister and the girls. Mum wanted some things for her new kitchen and as normal at ikea I came home with lots of bits and pieces. H is fast asleep in her favourite spot, lying on my chest while Im on the lounge :)
So what nicknames have your little ones earnt? Helena so far has squirmy worm (becuase she doesnt keep still when awake), munchie moo and Laney-loo, DD2 generally calls her layna except if you ask her waht her sisters name is then she says Helena Kate G....

RE: nicknames, those are super cute. Ours change every day - munchkin face, chubba butt, Willow pants - but mostly she gets baby girl.
Judah-bear, Judah-face, Judah-cub, mini-man, Boob-a-loob, pook-a-bear ... etc.
Nicknames so far Rykie, Rykie Roos, gorgeous boy, porky pig ( when all he seems to do is ea lol)
So how often are your lil ones pooing? ryker poos every nappy change, in fact I get a shock if he hasn't pooed between feeds, but today was a pooathon!! started at his overnight feed he managed to push one out both ends a he same time lol, as in spew out one end the same moment he squished his dacks, then today he did his biggest by far, he had me in stitches with the faces he was pulling and the juicy sounds coming from his rear lol. Luckily all managed to stay in he nappy...

I'm sorry to hea bf has been tough for you, I really understand how you feel, I tried for 20min today to breast feed with constant on off pulling and a cranky lil man at the end of it I reverted to the ebm. Do what gets you by.

well we've had a fairly good day today!
she slept from 930-12 then 1-230 when i had to wake her for school. Was pretty unsettled till 5 and i just woke her up at 9 and she's having some staring time in her swing till while i type on here, hopefully she goes to sleep soon, could do with an early night!
weird though, even though she didnt feed for 4 hrs, my boobs were still soft and didnt feel full at all, dont know whats going on there.
Re nicknames, she has soo many! Chubs, Chubber butt, Midge, muffet, muffin head, pumpkin head, DF and mum insist on calling her Addy, which i hate!!
