Ellie, dd is still feeding in the night, it's how I resettle her, little peep equals boob, then back to sleep after a little mini feed. I barely wake while co sleeping. I'm planning on doing something once we have settled from moving and dh is back from a work trip to china!
Hi Ellie - Sorry Alyssa has slept thru since 10wks like your DD1. The last few night she has been hard to settle when she first goes off (as in normally goes straight down at 7pm but has been up till 9pm the last two nights). Not sure if its just the humid weather keeping her up. Not sure if you're BF or FF but maybe you could try a big top up bottle at whatever time you choose at night & then see how she goes. It could just be a comfort thing too in the middle of the night. Fingers crossed you find something that works for you & you can start feeling awake again!
Peanutter, Alyssa won't hold her own bottle still. It's starting to drive me a bit crazy. I think she likes the mummy time! I've taken to changing her on the floor as she seems to stay still-er down there.
Yules hope the unpacking & settling is going well for you & you are liking your new place.
Well lucky me is off to do the ironing & have a shower, then finish the bottles ready for tomorrow.
Take care all xo
Peta - my brother changes his son (8 months) on the floor - with one leg lightly over the top, to stop him from rolling!!!
ellie - not sure - but one of my best girlfriends still feeds her bubba (almost 18 months) a couple of times a night ... but she's very gentle-parenting, anti-routine, and doesn a sort of no-cry method, IYKWIM?
Hi Girls!
So sorry I'm not posting much - in the middle of moving & soooo tired!
I did want to say though - Ellie, it's nothing to worry about xxx Melo (except for the last 3 nights) goes down at 8pm - if I'm lucky will last til 4am, but most nights wakes at 1am, 4am & then 7am
In saying that though... the last 3 nights he has gone down at about 8.30pm and slept through til about 6.30am ()
I was especially spoilt with Luke, he slept through from 8pm-8am at 15 weeks... he was a brilliant sleeper... Carmelo, not so much
I've had to mostly stop co-sleeping () because he's just getting wriggly in the bed - but have his cot still in the room - some nights he's in the cot and some nights (if he's not wriggly ) he's in bed with me.
It is tiring you poor thing
As for the nappy changing... ARRRRGGGHHH!!!! and even just sitting still! This week has also seen the beginning of the squealing (finding his voice) - and I'm not a fan! It's killing my ears
Hi everyone....just a quick update before bed...
Have had a shocker week with Miss T up every few hours screaming, feeding, screaming some more....then today she started vomiting blood...OMG did I freak...so thankful for our awesome Dr's in our little country town...saw a Dr within minutes of it happening...so finally I think we are on the road to recovery and sleep...she was diagnosed with reflux early on but the assumption had been made that she had 'grown' out of it coz she'd stopped chucking all the time...so now it seems she has 'silent reflux' and things have got ulcerated from all the acid hence the blood...Dr assured me no big deal and will settle quickly with increased doses of losec...she had her first big dose before dinner and drank a full bottle for the first time in days...I knew there was something wrong I just knew it...feel like it all makes sense now! Poor little poppet...love her to bits
Ellie, so glad the doctor was able to help you so soon. That's what's so lovely about little towns where everyone is familiar. Hope you are looking at a good night's sleep ahead too.
Peanutter how are things for you? Ha, I just noticed your new signature bit with the TTC. Here's hoping its a short & successful journey for you!
All good over in my end of the world, Logan is now cruising furniture, the playpen we borrowed is pretty much redundant now that he just walks it around the house! hahaha!
Still no teeth.
Still only 1 day sleep.... but this has extended to 1.5-2hrs... WOOOHOOO!!!!!
Still eats anything he can get his hands one!
Favourite toy at the moment - James' rubber snake! Looks pretty gross and you should see some of the looks I get from the school mums when I go to pick James up and Logan is clutching this snake! hahahaha!!!
Big kid is loving pre-primary.
I'm back at work 2 days a week, husband has been doing crazy hours sorting out a re-fit for the shop he works at. Trying to fit everything in is insane but I'm managing... just!
Oh, I'm also doing the Michelle Bridges 12 week challenge and have lost 5kg so far! Yay Me!
How are the rest of you doing?
What are you guys getting your little ones for their first birthday? I'm sooooo stuck for ideas, having a big brother, Logan pretty much has access to every toy ever made! Jules, you've seen the playroom! The only thing I can think of is a Smart Trike.
Doodlebug - are we perhaps sharing the same baby??
Joshua is also cruising around, walking the playpen around (generally over to the coffee table, to pull down and chew on books...) and has no teeth.
I have almost completely weaned, which makes me feel like a bit of a failure - and which I miss quite a bit - but I've got a 10 day overseas work trip coming up (Hong Kong) and I think it would be much much MUCH too unkind to Joshua and Martin if Joshua is cracking it because I'm gone, and also cracking it because he gets no boobie.
so while I'd wanted to just express while away, we've decided to just wean, so I stopped expressing through the day, then I dropped him to one feed a day, now we're down to 1 feed every 36-48 hours, with the plan that I will stop completely by the 24th, so we can be confident I won't get blocked ducts or mastitis or anything while away.
When I'm back, I will try to start again, and that lactation will resume, because I'd like to get him to 12 months on the boob
As far as sleeps go, he usually still has 3, but some days he'll have three 45-60 min sleeps, other days he'll go down for 2-3 hours, and still have two more sleeps of 60-90 mins! he's very routine in when he goes down, but not routine in the length of time ...
I gather though that we should probably be moving him towards two day sleeps around this age, though, so we'll need to get into that...
And he eats everything
DH and I had quite a long talk last night about variety and quantity of foods, and I've put my foot down saying that DS is to be offered two out of fruit/milk/cereals/egg every morning, and then meat/fish and a minimum of 3 veg/salad items for lunch and dinner. more fruit and carbs are fine as snacks or in addition to the above, but I'm setting the bar high, otherwise at the end of the day DH and DS have each had a vegemite sandwich and half a banana and a cruskit of two, and not much else (excpet for DS having his formula, of course!!)
DS doesn't show any preference for particular toys - he'll play with any of them - but he LOVES balloons and books.
I've been trying hard to lose weight and lost around 8 kilos in Feb (YAY!!) but have been quite naughty in the past 2 weeks, and need to get back on the wagon so to speak.
Re birthdays, we are just having a party meal with family, and getting some professional photos taken of the three of us, with my brother, his wife, and my little nephew, who is a month younger than Joshua.
He's getting a couple of cars and a lion bopper music thing, and a rattle ball (hopefully will replace the balloons, as I'm always worried he'll burst an eardrum or swallow the rubber!)
afm, work is mental. just mental. yesterday I had to fly up and back from Brisbane for a mediation (fantastic result if I do say so myself) and I have nother Qld trip and am off to Honkers, plus a hen's night, a wedding where I'm in the party, I have to write an article for publication, take about 10 clients out for meals (literally) and a presentation to research, prepare and DO on the Australian and International Laws and UN Conventions on human trafficking ALL before the end of the month. And I'd like to sleep and eat and bathe at some point in there.
and hard waste is coming up, and I want our attic cleared out and crap jettisoned so there's space to put the tubs with the baby clothes and wraps etc, so they aren't cluttering up out back room, and I can set up my cross trainer and a TV and actually use them.
oh, and I have a career to attend to.
and a beautiful baby I never seem to see enough ........ somewhere ...................
other than that, I have a couple of possibly long converstaions to have with DH about keeping house (not sure if any of you other than the lovely BB'er formerly known as MiniMax have read my thread on this...) so we'll see how that goes.
But DH and DS and I are keeping good, loving our family, moving along and hoping to get UTD really, really soon. I can't wait to be pg and start preparing for the next (and possibly last) addition to our little family
DD is very settled with us now and the last week has become extremely clingy to me. For us this is a good thing, it shows she has formed a strong attachment to me. We have our first visit with our birth family coming up next month, it is going to be very interesting to see how she handles this. I think she is ready and I hope it goes well, for her and her birthmum.
We have 7 teeth all the way through, things seem to have settled the last couple of days and she has gone back to 2 x 2 hour sleeps and 7pm-6am through the night. I suspect there are more teeth coming, so this could change any day. While her sleep has been affected with teething her eating has not missed a beat, my DD LOVES her food. Still on 3 bottles a day 8.30am, 1.30pm & 6.30pm. DD associates bottles with almost immediate sleep and will often feed to sleep in my arms for any of those bottles.
We are having her first birthday at a small (very clean) playcentre near where we live. It caters to babies & toddlers and serves healthy organic food (yay!!). She has sooooo many toys already and I am sure more to come for her birthday. We are thinking of getting her an outside toddler play gym that probably wont get used until later in the year, but it will be set up ready for when she is ready.
I dont think we are too far off walking here, she cruises all the furniture one handed now and I watch her transfer from one thing to another with a brief moment of no hands.
As for me, I am still adjusting to this change (but loving ever minute). I have worked all my adult life and am now required to stay home for a minimum of 12 months but 18 months is what is strongly suggested. My DH doesnt get home from work until 7.30-8pm at night, would be nice to have him here for the evenings (dinner, bathing, bottle, bed) but our trade off is he doesnt leave unitl 9am so when she wakes anytime after 6am he gets her up (and lets me sleep until 7.30-8am). If she is awake before 6am, its mummys job!
DD is such a beautiful little person, her smile lights up the room& our world . Every day I look at her and feel so very blessed that she is here and all our dreams have finally come true. DH said to me the other night when our 2 year wait is up, lets go through it all again........hmmmm I just dont know, it was a long road to get here and travelling it again?!. DD is from another culture, so I have started to look into overseas adoption from her country of origin. There is alot to consider and the wait could be extremely long but the joy that my little girl brings me makes me stamp a definate maybe on the thought for now : )
Wow, there's been some huge conversations in here. Sounds like everyone's LO's are making huge leaps & bounds in their development.
We have had our first steps this week! 3 steps unassisted two days ago & now two lots of 4 steps unassisted tonight. So excited!!! And scared.....mummy will really be running soon. Still no teeth, but that's ok. They will come when they're ready.
As for sleeps, still just two per day & time can vary from half hour to two or three hours. Just depends what we've been up to. We're beginning to cut back to 3 bottles a day now. This has sort of been instigated by day care as they seem to not get to her second bottle most days, or tell me she's not interested in having it. So that's fair enough, we can go with that. I'll just make sure she has heaps more water.
As for birthday, I can't decide whether to party (& if so it will only be family) or not. I was talking to a client today who said she is going to try to do a "recycling" party for her 4 year old. As in instead of buying a new pressie, each family can bring something they already have & swap. I thought this was a brilliant idea!! What do you all think?
I'm trying to get Alyssa into Gymbaroo but at present it seems they only do classes on the days I work. Bugger. I have emailed them in the hope their website is wrong & they actually have classes on a monday or tuesday also.
Also on a positive here I met a lady at daycare today who I have worked alongside as an associate for about 10 years. Her little girl is in Alyssa's class and is there 2 of Alyssa's 3 days so that is pretty cool. It really is amazing how much easier it is to talk to strangers once you have kids. Or maybe that is just for me......
We are off to a Wedding tommorrow night & DH parents are coming over to babysit. So great of them to come down. I had asked my mum on the assumption she was coming here but then discovered she wanted Alyssa to sleep over at her place an hour away & I'm just not ready for that, so I had to knock her back. I made her cry. Then of course I felt awful, but at the end of the day it is what we are comfortable with for our DD really. I told her there would be plenty more time for sleep-overs. Do you think I was too harsh?
Anyway, best get going. Our real fridge has just been fixed today after being dead for a month so I need to move everything back into it now & turn off the small one. Have a great weekend & look forward to hearing more from you all soon. ox
chookie - sounds fantastic! what a beautiful little blessing ...
peta - excitement city!!! and not to harsh at all, hun re gymbaroo, there's something in Vic (and maybe Qld??) called Tumble Tots which is $3 a session, instead of $200 or whatever a term ... woot! I want to take Josh next time I'm on on annuam leave (May )
Peta: Go Alyssa!!! What a fantastic milestone to reach. The recycling party does sound like a good idea. Hope you guys enjoyed the wedding and some time to yourselves. I don't think it's too harsh of you. I'm not comfortable with the idea of Deacon having a sleep-over at anyone's place yet either. Yay to having your old fridge back up and running. Thanks for starting up the FB group too
Chookie: Your little DD sounds amazing. Good luck for the visit with her birth mum.
Peanutter: Please don't feel like a failure for weaning. You are an amazing mum. You have lasted a lot longer than some people would given what you've been through. It sounds like Josh is a wonderful little boy and very happy. Good luck with your TTC journey. Fingers crossed it's nice and quick.
Doodlebug: Logan is such a gorgeous little boy. And doing really well too Yay to 5 kgs. I really need to do something about dropping a few (well more than a few) too.
Ellie: Oh my goodness, that must've been terrifying! So glad to hear you were able to see your doctor quickly and it's all sorted now. Fingers crossed Miss T is on the mend. Poor little thing.
Holly: Hope your moving is going well. Mello is such a little charmer I'm with you on the nappy changing too. Soooo over it.
Hi to everyone I've missed (sorry my lunch/express break is almost over...)
AFM: Deacon is doing really well. Nearly walking (cruising well) and standing on his own without holding on for longer spurts. He is such a little chatterbox. His latest is nanananananana. He doesn't have a Nana so we think he might've picked it up from one of the kids at daycare. Every now and then is sounds like ningningning (like a motorbike sound) and is so adorable.
He is a little terror when it comes to changing nappy/clothes, bathing or anything that requires him to stay put for longer than 2 seconds
He is still loving daycare, although we had our first and only (so far) cry when I went to leave about a week ago. The carer came over with a toy and he was fine. He loves his toys, especially noisy ones or trucks/cars.
We too are stuck on ideas for his birthday. We don't have much in the way of places to shop at (Big W, Kmart & Target and that's it) so we are thinking about hitting the net for ideas. We are having a BBQ lunch with a bunch of our family and friends. A good excuse for a shindig we reckon
Anyway, I'd better get back to work before my boss realises that he can no longer hear my pump going and it's just me typing.....
I've been flat stick at work, and have suddenly realised that I haven't even started emoptionally preparing for my two trips coming up away from Joshua
the first is this weekend - two days in Qld, and then the next is 10 days in Hong Kong.
any tips? who has been apart from their bubba for more than a few hours? I think the longest I have been as been about 18 hours when I've had a really long day at work.
or those here your DH/DP has been away from bubba for a while?
I've not been apart from DS for any longer than a working day (9-10 hours) so I'm not sure what advice to give. DS & I went to QLD for a holiday for a week without DH last November and we kept in touch with Skype, which was good coz DS was able to see DH on the screen and listen to him talking. It didn't take him too long to figure out what was going on and was babbling to DH. DH said doing this helped him from missing DS too much.
Other than that just lots of cuddles would be my best advice.... Sorry I'm not much more help
Giggle is right peanutter, skype is the way to do it. When dh had to go to France, china etc when d was first born that is how he got to see her. It's more for max's benefit though as he is more aware of time and misses his dad greatly when he us away.
PETA, how clever us Alyssa!!! Darcie has started standing on her own, put puts her arms up too as if to say 'look at meeeee' so cute!
