babies born ~ May 1st-15th 2010 #3

I have 2 girls - I think this will be it! My cycle isn't back yet either. Every so often I get the tiniest amount of blood when I wipe (TMI, sorry) but nothing ever seems to come of it.

Phoebe still isn't 100%, yucky bum and not eating much. I just wish she would start eating again, she doesn't even want sandwiches. She would live on ham and grapes if I let her!

We got a kitten on the weekend! A little light ginger girl. She is a Macy and a rescue cat. Lots of fun and trouble! Phoebe is just walking around chasing her yelling 'cat' She says cat more than mum now!

Wow, sounds like your little ones are all talkers! B is a babbler but I have no idea what he's saying most of the time. Da-da is his word for pretty much everything, including Daddy. He calls his grandma Ga-ga (but lots of other stuff is ga-ga too!) and I am da-da or mu-mmy. He also says doo-doo, doh-doh, aaah, na-na, ne-nay, la-la, ba-ba, oooh, tth (when he sees a bird, kangaroo or kookaburra in the garden) and a couple of other sounds. Num-mum is yum. I think birdie is dir-dy and duck is da, but because he generalises it's hard to tell. He likes to copy us too now, so tries really hard to imitate what we say.
He loves rhyming and repetative sounds and 'funny' words like oh-oh, wooosh, snot(!), silly-billy. Oh and animal sounds and actions too. When we say 'puppy doggy, woof woof', he pants like a dog, does a kissing kind of sound for 'fishy' and sometimes says 'sss' for snake.
He has a whole bunch of things he'll do on command too - sit, stand, 'bring ____ to mummy', wave, look, find___, 'are there any birdies outside?' (he goes to the window and looks out),clap hands, shake hands, shake legs, high five, touch your (or mummy's) nose/ear/hair/head, pat _____, pop your balls (he has a ball popper), bounce, dance, peek a boo (he hides and pops out from behind all sorts of furniture or covers himself with a towel or blankie then takes it off!) plus he will get almost any of his toys if we say them by name (a few we have to point to as well). He also makes a kissing sound if we say 'kiss' and make the sound.

He's such a confident walker (and runner) now. DH and I took him to the shops for shoes yesterday and he kept running away from DH - waaay too much energy for us at the moment. We're now one of 'those' families with an uncontrollable child (bring on the child harness!).

How's everyone's bub napping? B still does two naps most days but I've noticed the first is getting a little later (closer to 10am) and longer (almost 2 hours) and the second is getting later (2:30-3pm) and shorter (40 mins max. or non existant like yesterday!).

And what does everyone have planned for their bubs birthday? We're having a mum's group party and a friends/family one at home. Nothing too fancy, just a couple of hours with nibbles and a cake. I'm finding it hard to figure out what time though because of changing nap times. I have a feeling if I make it in the middle of the day when B is normally awake now, that he'll change his sleep and end up wanting to nap in the middle of it! What about pressies? We figure he'll get enough from everyone else so am pretty much sticking to what he needs. ie winter clothes, shoes, sleeping bag which he'll get as he needs them so probably before his birthday anyway! My parents are starting his Duplo collection for him but not sure what else he might get.

Went to a playdough party on Friday so B got to play with (read 'eat') play dough for the first time, which he enjoyed. And now I have a no-cook playdough recipe to try out! His socialisation skills seem to be improving and he's less clingy and cry-y now he can walk, especially in a small group. The more people, the more clingy he is.

He loves feeding himself with a spoon now, so much so that half the time if I do it, he pulls the food back out and eats it again with his fingers! He makes such a mess though and cleaning up (him, the chair and floor) after breakfast takes about 15 mins and requires a change of clothes and sometimes a hairwash (for me, that is!). It's mostly finger food now anyway. He loves sandwiches, toast, fruit and savoury muffins, zucchini slice, risotto, veges and salad (new faves are roast beetroot and eggplant). He LOVES meat and is a big pear fan at the moment too.

Anyway, that's enough from me. Hope you're all well and that bubs are too.

Hey everyone

Jleigh- Didn't realise you are now on FB. Boz is adorable, those pics are soooo cute!!! He sounds like such a clever little man, amazing how much they grow and learn so much.

Marni - AF not back yet, your lucky!! I got mine back at 7 months, had two right back on 28-30 day cycles but it's now been about 7 weeks since my last one - no not UTD just think BF still is confusing it lol.

Been pretty busy down here, house is 3 weeks away from handover YAY and by the time we do floors it will be easter, which we are going away for nearly a week camping, so won't be moving in until after that but the end is in sight!!

A is getting cheekier and cheekier by the day. She is now standing and getting pretty confident at letting go for a few seconds, she's also a bit of a climber so reckon she's getting into as much mischief now as she will walking. We now have four teeth with another 3 all sitting there ready to go, the poor little munchkin is still happy as during the day but nights are leaving a lot to be desired with waking 3-4 times but quickly settled again with a pick up or BF. She was 11 months on tuesday can't believe in under a month she will be 1......my baby is a little girl :(

We are thinking some of her night sleep issues are because she's in the room with us and getting older is alot more aware of her surroundings - the other night my rolling over in bed set her off, so can't wait for her to be in her own room and hoping that will settle her again.

She's a little parrot and copies you laughing, coughing, facial expressions and actions.

Phoenix - Yay on handover!! It will be so nice for you to have your own place again. Hopefully her own room will help with sleep! Hasn't here but you may be one of the lucky ones :) And I am also scared about the approaching first birthday

JLeigh - Boz is gorgeous! He looks cheeky and happy. I love seeing photos of the other bubs in this thread - I feel like I kind of know them even though I havn't met them IYKWIM? He looks so mobile too. I would love to add you on facebook, if thats ok? Or you can add me - Limarni Wyers

Phoebe is getting so big and clever. She walks everywhere and loves to climb on the lounge now, which I don't like so much. We have a new kitten who she chases all around the house! Her favourite word is still cat, but mum is still heard alot! She loves going for walks in the pram, which is great cause we only have the car on weekends (DH needs it for work) and babbles alot. Oh and my cycle returned last week :( Have to be happy with the 10 1/2 months!

Sleep still isn't great, wake alot overnight. Starting next week I am going to only offer water between 10 and 6. We are also going to take the dummy away. I will still settle her with cuddles but not with BF. She lost weight last month but I think that is because she is so much more active, she never sits still!

Marni - the water thing worked well here and so did DH getting up to her but the past few weeks if she has any slight idea I'm there (ie if I happen to sniff, cough, sneeze, roll over or even move in bed) and it's all over I have to get up to her, so hoping that in her own room if DH gets up to her that will be much easer for her to settle again. With her standing in bed self-settling has gone out the window during the day again but know that will be back on track soon enough.

How cute her chasing the kitten, though I'm sure it doesn't think sometimes :) I pity our dog once A is walking, she terrorises her enough as it is now, we're trying to teach her to pat and not pull fur, poke eyes and pull ears and side of her mouth :D

Just trying to get organised for camping and just worked out there is going to 6 kids under 4...........going to be intersting I reckon! A's birthday is good friday so going to go into down day before and get a cake and take a couple of small pressies for her. We got her one of those tricycles that convert the bigger they get. When we get back and moved in will have a BBQ home for everyone here, hoping to convince DH's mum to come over from Vic (his two brothers & her cousins are coming camping so will be there for her actual bday)

Well I better get off my butt, though can't be bother as weather here is cold, wet & rainy but it's got to stage I've to go get stuff off line and chuck in dryer.

Wow Phoenix, the house thing is really happening! I can only imagine how real and exciting it must be. I agree that the sleep stuff will settle once A is in her own room.

Marni - Boo for AF (still nothing here) but yay for Phoebe walking. B can't quite get up on the lounge by himself yet, so climbs on us to get up. The other day I found him standing on DH's suitcase so he could climb on the coffee table so he could climb on the phone book (which was on top of a box on the coffee table) to get to our mug of pens! They are just too clever for their own good sometimes! Do you find Phoebe is eating more because she's so active?

Dummy - Marni, tell me how you do the dummy thing as we want to take it away too. DS only has it for sleeping in his cot, so it never comes out of his room, so I'm hoping it won't be too hard. I did start pulling it out once he went to sleep, but he went through a few days of unsettled-ness (I think we're teething, molars this time, yay, NOT!) so I backed off and let him keep it, lol! I didn't just want to go cold turkey on him either....

Birthday - We got DS an awesome hand made wooden train (three carriages) and truck, both with logs yesterday - $60 the lot, bargain of the decade! DH wants to paint it so it might not be ready for his birthday, and he's probably still a little young for it too so we might save it for Christmas.

FB - I only use it for my Mum's group (it's how we arrange meet ups) and for DH's family in Perth who've never met DS so hope everyone understands if I don't add you. I will post links to photos though if I add any more!

Feeding - Who's still BFing? Any plans to stop? When? How? We're on 3 feeds/day and I was hoping after 12 months to at least cut out the day feed. DS still seems to really like it though, but he doesn't grizzle for it so I'm hoping it won't be too hard. I'd like to go to cow's milk rather than formula too, but will see how we go. Any ideas?

Phoenix - The water thing hasn't worked too well here. But I will keep trying! 2-3 feeds at night is too much! Have fun camping - your brave though, I don't think I would attempt it with a baby :)

JLeigh - I just take the dummy away cold turkey. I did with Tiana at 12 months and she was fine. My theory is that they are young enough not to remember it for long at that age. However I may have just been lucky!! We will see.

Feeding - I am still b/f but am hoping to wean at 1. I would have a while ago but she wont take the bottle. I have started giving her cows milk with her lunch to get her used to it.

Food - Some days she eats heaps but breakfast is pretty hit and miss. Sometimes sh eats a whole weetbix others she will only have a mouthful. Still loves fruit though, grapes are her favourite!

Birthday - I have laybyed her a wooden dolls pram. She loves Tiana's and this one is lower to the ground so she can play with it easily.

Well what a night last night - I think everytime I finally nodded off she woke up again!!! Think because I know the time frame to her being in her own room it's making me more wound up, where before I just went with the flow. I took her into bed with me around 5.30 and I got woken up with a kiss around 8 so hard to stay cranky lol

BF - we are still on 4 feeds a day and nights could be between 1 & 4 but those are more for comfort, I'm almost tempted to try a dummy again but have my doubts she'll take one now. She has one when she wakes in the morning, before her morning & arvo naps and then before bed......if she misses one due to being out or skipping a nap she doesn't care. Not sure when I'll wean just going to go with it for now, I just find it so easy and it's a good excuse for 10mins cuddle time.

Marni - this will be our third camping trip, the others have only been 3 nights, I put on a brave face the first time and was a bit worried how I would cope but was suprised how easy it was. The other kids kept her occupied and played with her and the other adults were more than happy to cuddle or keep an eye on her........she actually slept better - go figure

Jleigh - totally understand on the FB thing but please keep the piccy's coming :) it's so lovely to see how the little ones are growing up.

Went to the baby & children's expo that was here on the weekend, I really shouldn't be let into those places unsupervised lol made even worse that I had to go back yesterday and swap over some night nappies I bought for the bigger size....ended up with more nappies and a few other bits & pieces. Seeing some of the newborns there made me a little bit clucky but after last night if I ever get to sleep again, want to enjoy that for a while lol

Ladies - can you post a link to some of your bubs albums? Would love to have a stickybeak! ;)

BFing - B has been really keen for his afternoon BF lately - grabs at me and grizzles til I say 'Would you like a drink of milk from Mummy?' then grins and races me to the lounge! Not sure how I'll go with the weaning, but I was hoping to start around 1y/o, not long now!

Phoenix - Oooh, I am a shocker when it comes to buying for B. I am so good at keeping to a budget for me, but when it's for B... :lol: And nappies are a necessity so it's real easy to justify! :doh:

Brissy ladies - Boz and I are in the city on Fri lunch/early arvo. Anyone available for a picnic at the Botanic gardens or coffee?

Food - B loves grapes too! Other fruit he's hit and miss with - loves it one day, throws it the next! B'fast is B's smallest meal too but lately he's been eating HEAPS of lunch and dinner. Lunch yesterday was a bowl of cheesy tuna and vege pasta, 3 pieces of zucchini slice and yoghurt. I weighed him this morning and he's put on 300g in less than 3 weeks! Growth spurt!!

Easter is fast approaching and I am going with TinaR :D So excited about that one! Finally get to meet :) This will be our first camping trip with E, so we will see how it goes.

E is 11 months old in just under 2 weeks. He is walking (taking a few steps) and getting more and more confident. Has heaps of teeth, haven't counted as he won't let me..lol He sleeps thru the night most nights, unless sick or teething (which he does every few nights lately) and he usually goes off to bed without a fuss.

I am still trying to convince DH to try again for a girl - but so far no luck....but we will see...crying usually gets me far ;) (kidding) But time will tell.

Ok well its time for E's nap so I will be back a bit later on ladies :)

Sleepy - yours works too :)

Will be back later with a proper post once little miss is in bed. She had a temp & snotty nose yesterday and this arvo broke out in a rash all over her back and belly so off to the doc's we went. It's a virus of some sort and she's now cranky for missing her arvo nap.

Oh no :( Elijah just had a throat infection the other day, and the only indicator was a fever and high temp of nearly 39 degrees. No snot, no coughing, nothing, but the Dr said he had a throat infection, was off his food, and his bottles (which he loves so much) but once he got antibiotics he was better. So sad when they're sick :(

Phoebe slept from 10pm to 4.30am the other night! Didn't do it again though, but at least I got one night :p
I am going out by myself tomorrow!! I am even going to leave Phoebe at home, I know that she will be fine and will drink cows milk but I am a bit worried. I think I just need to do it - I don't think she will even look for milk if I am not around.

Oh and Jleigh, I would love to meet you! However i don't often have the car during the week, but if you are ever around Morayfield let me know :)

My poor little miss has a double ear infection! What I just thought was a cold started Friday night and last night we ended up with 39 degree temps. Didn't really come down with panadol either. So off to the dr we went this morning, lots of antibiotics and cuddles. Sad though cause I promised Tiana that we would go to the park today and Phoebe just really isn't well enough. :(

I chose yesterday to get rid of the dummy too! We did though and I was going to stop night feeds last night too but thought I might wait a bit before I did that. She has done fine without the dummy, the first sleep yesterday was a nightmare but since then only a little grizzle!

Hi Everyone

Marni - poor phoebe, A hasn't had an ear infection yet touch wood but I hear they are nasty nasty things! Hope she's on the mend soon.

Well A still isn't 100% after having temps last week of 39+ , runny nose & cough, she then broke out in a rash all over her back & belly we've been to the Dr's twice who says it's just a virus. Rash is still really visible (it's not on her face/arms or legs) and soon as she's naked for a bath or nappy change she's scratching at it. I'm thinking I might take her into WCH since the doc is really no help at all. She's also had really bad nappy rash that wasn't clearing until I tried an antifungal cream and it's now nearly gone thankfully the poor little mite.

Day sleeps are back to normal and last night she managed 12.30 - 5.00 which is a miracle here at the moment lol and a whole lot better than the 1-2 hours wakings the past week before.

I'm thinking I need to make an appointment for her 12 month needles - going to do it while DH is home so he can take her, he's missed out on all the others but will make sure it's after we get back from camping :D

camping - YAY for camping at Easter and meeting Sleepy!!

12 mth needles..would love to suck DH into going this time but its hard with his work. I think Zen will really feel these ones

I am stopping Zen from having his dummy during the day for naps and have got him to 1 bf at nights so am happy with that at the moment, will attempt to wean him off that one in the next month or so I think....crap, back later,,,gotta go!

Phoenix - I saw your photos of A! Boy, she's changed heaps since she was little - great to see all those photos. :lol:

Sorry to hear that all your bubs are sick. B is (touch wood) fine but I have heard there are a lot of viruses going round. I think the cooler weather coming into winter doesn't help plus the temp changes - warm one minute, cool the next. I hope everyone is feeling better very soon though.

Sleep - We've been away for three nights, so B has been sleeping in a portacot and not settling too well. Once he's asleep he's fine for the night, but we've had a fair bit of crying trying to get him there.... back to sleep training for us, lol!

Camping - Tina and Sleepy, hope you have heaps of fun! Where are you going?

Dummy - I still haven't bitten the bullet and taken the dummy off Boz for his day sleeps, but I do take it off him once he's asleep if I remember (about half the time). Your positive stories help though!!

Well I have to say that the city isn't a very baby friendly place. Hardly anywhere in the city centre has high chairs... and trying to get past rushed office workers on Friday was a nightmare! But, it was nice to get away and do something different for a change.

JLeigh - The city isn't very child friendly, but the museum is great when they are a bit older. As for the photos, I think you have to be my friend. Why don't you add me, have a look and then delete me again, lol. I wont be offended but that is the only way I can think for you to have a look!

Dummy - Still no dummy here, and she is fine without it now!

As for this stupid ear infection though, it is nasty! She has been on AB for over 24 hours and still has a temp of 38.6 as soon as the panadol/ nurofen is close to wearing off. :( She looks miserable. I thought the temp should be gone by now? If she is no better by lunch time tomorrow she is going back to the dr.

Marni - how is Phoebe now? poor little thing, hope she is feeling better!

I think there are a few little bubs that have not been to great lately. I think Zen is getting a little cold. the last two days his routine has gone out the window which is so frustrating. he wants boob every wake at night which is 3-4 times, is very unsettled. Have put him down for an early nap today and will try for another one just after lunch and try to get him back down for a 6pm sleep.

Hi Tina! I hear you on the night feeding. I am going to take Phoebe's away cold turkey as soon as she is completely better. She is another that has been feeding 3+ times overnight (even prior to being sick).

Well as for our interesting week, it sucked! Most of you know (except for prob JLeigh) Phoebe was admitted to hospital Tuesday night. I called the after hours dr cause she still wasn't getting better on AB for a double ear infection and she gave me a referral and sent me to the hospital. After being in emergency until 3.30am we were admitted to the ward with suspected Viral Pneumonia. We had bloods (3 veins later) and a chest x-ray (which she was fine for). The next day we had a nasal swab taken and eventually she was found to have bronciollitis in addition to the ear infection. I was really scared for a while cause her oxygen levels weren't what they should be and as it was viral there wasn't anything that could be done except for suctioning the nose and checking her to make sure her breathing was ok. They let us out Thursday but I was told to watch her and bring her back if there was any sign of difficulty breathing.

She still has a shocking runny nose and an awful sounding cough but she looks well! her eyes aren't as black and she is brighter and talking again. To top the week off John was away so I did it by myself and had to organise babysitters for Tiana (thank goodness for my sisters!) I am praying this week is better.

On a lighter note however I once again have boobs the size of watermelons cause all she was doing was feeding hourly for 3 days and is now back to less!! I have had to dig breast pads out again.

Sleep - Well we have been one week without the dummy now!! Once she is completely better I will cut out night feeds and then live in hope she gets the point and starts to sleep longer. Waking 3+ times overnight is too much!! There is only so much coffee I can drink in one day :)

How is everyone going with birthday organising? I am getting there (sort of). I know what I need to do, now just have to do it lol!

Marni - Poor Phoebe! You have had a rough week. A virus must be the absolute worst because nothing can be done, just a waiting game. I hope she gets better real quick so you can get back to 'normal'. Go the watermelon boobs!

TinaR - I hope Zen feels better too soon.

AFM - Boz has hayfever, the poor thing. He's had really itchy eyes and a runny nose which have been making him a bit grizzly/clingy so we've been doing the night waking thing too. Luckily no night feeds here though! He was much better by mid-morning today though, so hoping it settles at least for a while. We had family portraits done yesterday and they were horrid - his eyes were red and swollen and his nose was runny - will maybe get them re-done or just forget about it. Really didn't want to pay hundreds of dollars for a couple of photos anyway...

Teeth - This morning where his bottom left molar is was red and looked like it had broken through, though I can't feel anything. Might also explain the clinginess and night waking.

Feeding - B refused his afternoon bf today. This might be the beginning of his self-weaning. He could barely muster an interest in his bedtime feed either but I was so full I persisted until he'd had a decent feed, lol!

Birthday - I finally sent off the invites yesterday and got B his pressie. We got him a fold out sofa cos he just loved one at a friends house last week. We also have a blackboard/whiteboard but not sure if he'll get that for his birthday or Christmas (or just whenever! :)). I have looked at making a cake myself but my neighbour has a cupcake making business and they're awesome, so it's probably better for everyone if we get her to do a cupcake tower!

Jleigh - I posted in your other thread but I am pretty sure you can get Claryntyne or Zyrtec over the counter for bubs. Tiana used to have to have it for allergic reactions.

Phoenix - How is A?

I can't believe it but after my shocker of a week last week I have mastitis!!!! It really hurts, like really! So close to being able to wean too :( Well I just needed a whinge. Hope everyone else has had a better start to the week.

Jleigh - I posted in your other thread too, I got some Children's Claratyne for A without a prescription (even though doc had given me one)

Marni - On no you are not having a good run are you but very happy to hear little P is on the mend. Hope the mastitis clears quickly for you - touch wood I've escaped it so far.

Tina - I hear you on the 3-4 feeds a night, it's doing my head in especially since she used to sleep through the night. Hope Z is feeling better soon too, must be change in seasons for all our little ones to be sick.

Well after numerous Dr's visit and a second opinion A still has a rash, they think it was the Roseola virus given she had couple of days of high temp, snotting nose before the rash broke out BUT the rash is only supposed to last a couple of days and here we are nearly two weeks later and we've still got one. So we've tried Claratyne (did nothing) and on our second lot of cortico-steroid cream to help with the itching.

To top it off I suspect the litttle munchkin might be suffering from a bit of reflux or indigestion so off we went to chiro today for an adjustment and I've got some infant gaviscan which I started with her lunch - fingers crossed it might help settle her as I was up nearly every 45 mins feeding last night until I propped up her mattress and gave her some colic relief stuff and then I got 3.5 hours. Anyway daddy is home Wednesday night so she's all his between 7pm and 7am lol.

On a very happy note, we get the keys to the house on Thursday afternoon YAY but we won't be moving in until after easter since we have to have flooring put down and we are going away for nearly a week for easter.

Birthday - we'll be camping and all DH's family from Vic are coming along (will be arriving that day) so I plan on attempting to bake a cake in the camp oven, yes will be taking several packets to have a test run or two :) and take some balloons, hats etc and have a little party there. We've got her one of the converting tricycles but will leave that here, might get her a couple of books and something small to take there. Will also do something back home once we are moved in and settled.

Anyway supposed I should look at getting little miss something for dinner and into bed early since she missed her arvo nap.

Zen has just been a little whingy at night but I am hoping he settles again soon, we styed at my parents sun/mon night and he was in bed with me which was a nightmare cause I wake to every move he makes :(

birthday: I have everything but food/goodie bags finalised. we are having a western theme and his naming ceremoney.ive got a cowboy boot pinata, wanted sign for pics (face section cut out), pin the pickax on the gold mine game, 1st bday singature dog, mini cowboy hats, sherrif badges, fake moustaches and a heap of other stuff. MJ Party hire here in Boonah organised so much stuff, I just gave Janelle a list of what I wanted and she got it in,.

We are doing a 'early bday' for Elijah and Zen while camping, also going to campoven bake the cake...Zens 'real' bday cake has an edible image of him in a wanted sign :) $22 for the image and $5 in cake mix for his cake..easy peasy!

Gee Tina, you are a super mum! Zen's party sounds awesome! I am still deciding if I want a theme for our family/friends get together (will depend on what I can get at the $2 shops, lol!) but definitely not going to anywhere near as much trouble as you! Our MG is hiring a family centre and we're having a group party in just under two weeks. It's only $6 per family and has chairs/tables, BBQ, toy/book library, art space and indoor and outdoor areas for play with equipment so it should be awesome. One of the dads is a baker so is getting a cake done and we have some balloons and decorations too!

Campoven cake - Sounds way cool, let me know how it turns out!

Night time - B has decided that he doesn't settle to sleep so easy these days! It used to be sleeping bag, cuddle, goodnight and leave (about 2 mins total) but the last week we've had to sit by his cot for 10-15 mins while he lays down, sits up, stands up, lays down etc etc. After that, we're fine all night though. Hope everyone else gets back to normal ASAP.

Poor sick bubs - Hope they are all recovering.

Marni - Mastitis, you poor thing! Have you got AB's? Hope you're better soon...

AFM - B's hayfever was great for a couple of days, back again Tues night, seems to be worst in the late arvos. He also had the worse nappy rash, was so bad he wouldn't let us touch his butt and he screamed when the water touched it in the shower. But, once I saw that he's got his first molar (!! :o) it all seems to make sense.

Gotta run, off to visit family today so better get organised!

Tina - Wow, that is some party!! You are so organised. He will have a blast I'm sure :)

Phoenix - How is A going now?

Well, my mastistis has cleared up but poor Phoebe is still sick. She has an intolerance to penicillan so we can't have that anymore. Poor little chicken was so sad and cranky on it and I feel terrible that it took me 2 days to figure out what it was. So yesterday she spiked a fever again! Back to the drs and we need to see a pediatrician becasue she just cant seem to get rid of whatever she has. We were up alot of the night and 3:00 this morning saw another 39deg fever. I don't know what to do?? We can't just have her live on panadol and nurofen!

Marni - Just popping in to give you and Phoebe lots of :hug::hug: and :comfort:. It's such a worry when your baby is sick, especially when you don't know why and can't do anything about it. I hope you see a Paed. soon and get your gorgeous girl back.

Elijah sleeps thru the nights now, he is on cows milk already, so I think it fiills him up. He loves it! I just have to get him to drink something other than that! He isn't really a sweet boy - I am trying the cordial and plain water, but he doesn't really want abar of it. I think I better try the cup again....

Yay camping in 2 days now..so excited to be meeting TinaR! WooHoo...I was thinking of maybe organizing a camp for us QLD girls (and anyone else who wants to join) later on in the year. I think it would be good for all the babies to meet and be friends ;)

I had totally forgotten about the 12 month needles :( Darn it!

I am having a hard time with the 3 year old at the moment tho, he is refusing to listen to me, argues with me and basically does the opposite of what I say! If I say 'don't touch that' he will touch it just because I said not to...ggrrrr the joys of children...lol

Anyway, I had better go and put E down for a nap - I may get one too so I can continue to pack and get ready for camping :D

hmmm....might try Zen on a bottle of cows milk for his last feed and see if it puts him down the whole night. he is basically going through till 4am when he wakes for a feed. am thinking of trying to wean him but have no idea how to lol

TinaR - If yu want to ween him, give him one bottle a day for a while, then 2 bottles and so on. You could try follow on formula first if you're not happy to try cows milk yet.

UGH! tried cows milk last night - he was up twice!!
I dont really want to go to bottles if I can help it, want to go straight from boob to cup so any drinks he gets are usually from a sipper cup.

Need to do so much today, tomorrow morning we will do the main pack up of the camper, but i need to do shopping etc today and organise clothes and all that fun stuff.

Tina and Sleepy - Have a great camping trip! Don't drink soo much that you forget you have children, just enough to dull their noise, lol!

As for Phoebe, she is still cranky and unwell. The dr has put her back on Losec just in case she has an irritated tummy and this is why she refuses to eat much and drinks lots. She has also lost too much weight so when we go back for her needles in 2 weeks she will be weighed again and if she hasn't gained enough or any she will have blood tests to check some stuff. She still has her runny nose, red ears and throat and we are just on the wait list to see the paed. I am barely coping :(

On a good note however I have all her birthday pressies and am very excited!!! My little baby is 1 in 8 days!!! I can't believe how quickly the year has gone.

TinaR - My Mum's group invited our MCHN to do a 12 months session with us and she went into the weaning/cows milk thing in great detail. First, she said that just because bubs is waking doesn't usually mean they want a feed and that by this age it's probably habit or comfort rather than hunger. She said just don't offer anything, or maybe water. She suggested to start the cows milk with about 30mL with lunch and go up from there once they can drink that. She said that 2 bottles a day is plenty, AFTER solids (or when they wake and before bed), max 500mL, but they need less if they're having other dairy too. At this age, most of their nutrition should come from solids. Also, formula is unnecessary (and very $$$!). With weaning, try dropping a feed per week, or cut back on how long you let bubs feed, or only offer one side etc. The ABA also had some great info on this that I found.

Tina and Sleepy - Enjoy your camping trip! As for us doing one together, if it involves cabins, spas and NO sand or dirt, I'm in, lol!! Would love to meet everyone though...

What else the MCHN said - Keep offering water at every meal - 20-30mL is a good drink so don't expect them to drink heaps of water at a time. Don't give cordial, juices etc. It's normal for toddlers to eat heaps at one meal and not much at another, just keep offering but don't stress (ha, easier said than done!). She also gave us a leaflet that listed how much of the food groups 1-2yo should be getting which I thought was useful...
*3-5 serves of carbs (bread/cereal/rice etc where 1 slice of bread, 1/2 cup cereal is 1 serve)
*3-5 serves of veges (1/4 cup is 1 serve)
*1-2 serves of fruit (1 piece is 1 serve)
*3 serves of dairy (full fat), including breastfeeds (1 cup milk, 200g yoghurt is 1 serve)
*2-3 serves of protein (eggs, meat, fish, legumes where 30-50g meat is 1 serve, 1/2 cup kidney beans is 1 serve, 1 egg is 1 serve)

She also talked all the usual stuff about how important it is to talk to bubs, babyproof etc and gave us some great info on sleep (they'll drop to 1 sleep/day around 12-15 months), discipline/tanties too!

AFM - DS has been refusing his arvo nap for a couple of weeks now and not going down in the morning til 10:15-10:45am so today for the first time he had lunch at 11am then went down for a nap at 11:45am. That means we can start going to story time at the library at 9:30am, maybe even playgroup too! It also means no more lunches out for a while :( My little boy is now my 'big' little boy!

Phoebe seems to be eating a bit better here! So I think the losec may be making a difference. Heres hoping she starts to gain some weight. We hada nice easter - Tiana had her eating chocolate for breakfast! Her birthday is Saturday, I can't believe my baby is one!! She isn't a baby anymore :( And like Bos I think she is trying to drop her second sleep, she has refused it a couple of times now.

Camping was great! although Ellijah is a bully lol...or, more correctly, i think Zen is a big sook. within 1minute of being in the same playpen Zen was curled up in the corner crying! They played tag teams at night twice which of course kept us up but it was all good, we have already booked to go away again over Christmas/New Year.

Hope everyone had a great easter break and Big Birthday wishes to all our bubs who have turned one. I think most of you are on fb and I have already wished a happy birthday. oh yeah - we did a camp oven cake and it was AWESOME!!
