hi girls
have B in the sling again, he just settles so easily when I put him in, I don't even try to put him in his bed during the day (unless he's fallen asleep during a feed). His reflux seems to be so much better (practically since we took him to the dr, typical!) and doesn't spew much anymore, mostly overspill when he gets a bit greedy and drinks too much. And he now fits into all the cloth nappies I bought, so I don't have to wash as soon as I get up and put them in the dryer so I have enough nappies to get through the day. Now I can wash whenever during the day because they can dry as long as they like, I have a big enough supply.His legs have finally chubbed up.
I hear you girls on the work front. I'm also the bigger earner and my wage pays the mortgage and DH's pays the bills so without me working we can eat but have nowhere to live! We've worked out that we can live on the govt money (just) and have a bit in savings so I am supposed to be going back to work start of Nov.B will only be 6 months so its a bit sad really. I never had a really strong sense about if I'd want to be a SAHM or career mum but I really don't want to go back when he's only 6 months. Plus for those of you from the belly buddies group you'd know I had issues with my boss before I left so that makes me even less happy about going back. And If I don't want to go back there (which I don't unless he's gone) then I have to find the time to find a new job which at this stage just seems like a hassle, when I want to spend the little time I have at home with him. Ok enough whingeing!
We've been getting smiles for a while now too, isn't it just gorgeous!B has a really wide open mouth grin, its just so beautiful. Plus from quite early on I have said "kiss for mummy" when I kiss him and get open mouth "kisses" when say it to him.
KellyD - I understand what you mean about the IVF stuff. I didn't go through the clinic for my pg so I haven't spoken to them for nearly a year now when I was in contact with them every second day during a cycle. We will go back (unless this pg has been a miracle cure) but it is strange/sad.
Hope you're all well, have a good weekend! I think we're going to go to ikea tomorrow, see how we go with a 7 week old!

Hello a just a quickie because I have both DSs in my lap and although I can now type with two hands, DS1s patience will be limited (need to jump onto Utube and watch Astroboy, LOL).
River still has the flu although Caden is getting over his. He is not sleeping very well, only on me and upright.

Yay to all the baby smiles. L has been doing them for ages and has now progressed to "talking" haha. It's very cute even at 2am in the morning whilst changing her poonami! She's been abit of a Koala today. Mainly because she's had no sleep because I had to go and have an xray on my tail bone. It seems I may have fractured it whilst giving birth.

Bern - I hope the hip displaysia isn't giving Tianna any trouble it sounds painful. I hope it isn't.
Farm_Girl - Thank you for the offer to have a catch up I would love to catch up with you at some point it's just a matter of organising the "right" time lol I'll def keep it in mind. DH and I are going to the baby expo on Sunday.
KellyD - Great weight gains. That is sad about the IVF stuff. We still have 4 frozen embrio's left but we will be having another one in the not too distant future. It's strange that we had all these appointments for the last how ever long and now we really have nothing. I find I'm floundering a bit and struggling with out all the appointments etc... It's been our whole life for the past 28 months. Couldn't think of anything else. If that makes sense? Each appointment was a milestone.

Farm Girl - Yes we bought the stomach calm to help settle Brianna's belly as she has reflux. It won't work if it is used continuously though. I think her reflux is starting to settle down a bit now. She still has her moments of being unsettled but we are seeing how she goes for a little while before we give her anything for it. She hasn't had any mylanta or stomach calm today, and she only had a couple of doses of mylanta yesterday. Her milk is still spilling a little after a feed, but she hasn't been vomiting as much as she had been before.
Kelly - Glad to hear your appointments went well. The boys sound like they are doing really well. That is great weight gain for both of them.
Porsche - I hope your x-rays come back ok and their is nothing too serious going on with your back. The things we go through with child birth huh.
Bree has been sleeping really well for us lately. The last 4 nights she has slept through the night. Averaging about 8 hours a night. I think the stomach calm got it started and now she seems to be settling into a bit of a routine. She has a bath about 6-7pm, has her last bottle around 9pm and sleeps through til 6-7am. She has been having her 5-6 bottles a day, so I am not concerned that she is sleeping so long during the night. I think that just might be how I bake my babies lol as my older 3 were sleeping the whole night by about 3 months too...
Brianna has been trying to talk. It is so cute watching her and listening to the sounds she makes. I think she gets a little frustrated that she can't talk. I sit there with her in my lap talking to her, encouraging her to join in, its great entertainment for the kids too. DD2 is trying to teach her to wave lol. She is starting to become interested in holding her bottle, she places her hands on her bottle while I hold it, and when she has had enough she pulls it out of her mouth. She pulls her "plug" (as I call it) out of her mouth too lol.
I'm trying to discourage her from watching tv, sometimes she is very hard to distract her without turning her away from it. All those noises and flashing lights are so interesting to a curious bub.
Nice to catch up, I haven't been online much in the last few days!

Hi Everyone,
Well it's been a busy week for us. Amelia finally had a dirty nappy on Thursday, and then again on saturday. Her feeding seems to be back in order, and we finally resorted to buying her some dummies to help with the colic. My little guy has taken on the task of making sure it stays in as she startles herself when it pops out while she is drifting off to sleep.
On Saturday we volunteered for the Friends of the Brith Centre at the PBC Expo. IT was so nice to be able to share my positive birth experiences with other mums and new expectant mums. Amelia was a fantastic draw card and had cuddles with the other ladies volunteering. My friends daughter had the most amazing butterfly painted on her face, it was just stunning.
Gemini Girl, thanks for the info. I though Amelia may have had reflux a few weeks ago. but I'm pretty sure it was a reaction to my love of spicy food. She has settled down now that I've taken Mexican and Indian out of my diet.
Melly Belly , I hope the X'rays show healthy hips. Let us all know how you get on.

Hello to all,
The Baby Buddies group for the second half of May is very quiet, so I thought I might just join you in here.
Jim was born on 21 May, he was a footling breech! He still puts his legs and feet in that position, he has always been a long baby and he's been in 000 jumpsuits for the length, almost from birth.
I have been basically doing combined/top up feeding from day 2. So breastfeeding and then top ups with NAN-HA at the moment. Some days I have got it down to him taking a third of the formula, for a baby his age for a 24 hour period.
Life is settling down a bit for us, so I hope to have a few minutes and I might actually get around to interacting a bit more on the thread, rather than posting updates.

Farmgirl - I'm glad the baby expo went well for you. We fought the crowds on Sunday lol. Got a couple of good things. I felt it was more for pregnancy than for babies and toddlers though.
Geminigirl - L has been cooing and talking as well. It's very cute. We have a wall hanging of Tigger right over her change tablesand she often haa a great conversation with him and smiles heaps at him as well. Very cute indeed.
EMC - Welcome. My L is very tall as well. My DH is 6 foot 2 si I hafl expect her to be tall. She's also in 000 for length rather than weight.
AFM - Just plodding along. I stopped expressing for 2 days and my supply dwindled. So I was in a flap and paniced about losing my suply. Needless to say i am now back to expressing religiously. So far my supply has come back few! Don't think I'll risk that again. As I mentioned we braved the Baby expo yesterday and got some stuff. One I was really impressed with was a gel type pack that actually heats your bottles while you are out. That will be handy when we go visiting with my EBM. We won't have to worry about getting boiling water from a restaurant to heat up L's bottles. They didn't have any on site but they are posting it out to me. Can't wait to test it out.

Porche - are you exclusively expressing? with DD1 i thought my supply was dwindling so started giving formula as a top up, but now with research and knowledge i know it was just my supply settling to just make what baby needed. i need to buy myself an expresser as ill need to start expressing for when i return to work - not till december so a fair way away.
does anyone know how long you can keep EBM frozen for?
best go hang these nappies out.

EBM can be kept in the fridge for 3 days, in the normal freezer (the one with the fridge) for 3 months and in a deep freeze for 6 months.
I have some expressed EBM from when I was b/fing Liam and have them in the deep freeze so I can use them when the boys start on solids.

It's funny how they become familiar with their routine and their surroundings so quickly. I take the change table into the kitchen when I am bathing Bree, as the bath is underneath the change table. She seems to know now when she is on the change table in the kitchen, that she is about to have a bath, and a bottle soon follows. As she has been a chucky baby, I am in the habbit of putting a bib on her before feeding her. It is so funny now when I put the bib on her, she knows the bottle is on its way and she gets so excited, almost like she is licking her lips type of thing LOL
As for the warming of the bottles. I take a bottle from the fridge and keep it cold by wrapping it in a towel with a frozen ice pack from the freezer. I take a thermis (sp) which keeps boiling water boiling for hours, and take a wide plastic cup (we checked the water after 8 hours and it was still hot). This has worked really well for us because it allows us to prepare the bottle when ever it is needed rather than wait in line to ask someone. Some places don't like you getting hot water from them because of the risk of it tipping over and burning someone.
Someone asked about freezing Breast Milk. As far as I remember, you can freeze it for up to 6 months (in a deep freezer) I will see if I still have the booklet somewhere, I might have thrown it out now that I am not breastfeeding.
EMC welcome to the group. I went to reply to your thread in the other group the other day, but by the time I got to it I was logged out and I still had some things to do so I didn't log back in. Silly me. I was just going to say that I was sorry to hear about your relationship, things must be so tough for you right now. I am glad that your parents have been there to support you through the first few weeks. I hope they can continue to support you in some way when you go back to your unit. It sounds like Jim is doing really well. Don't stress about the amount of milk he is getting, be it breast or formula, he won't starve himself. You are doing a fabulous job.
We should request a "babies born in May" group, as I would love to keep in contact with everyone from our belly buddies group.

Wow - I can't believe everyone's bubs are only just hitting the 000. Amelia has been in 000 since birth, and if she needs enclosed feet, she is in 00. I know she is on the 75% line in the baby book for weight and length, but as Noah followed the 95% line, I'm not surprised. I find it amusing when people comment on how tiny she is, she certainly didn't feel tiny when I was pushing!
Welcome EMC - Did you end up having your baby naturally or c-section?
I agree, maybe we should have just a May 2011 group. How do we go about requesting it?

LOL They never feel tiny during labour. Bree was nearly 4 weeks early and she was anything but easier to push out. I think she was actually the hardest to push out, Im getting old see lol - Although for being born at 36w4d, she was the same size as DD1 who was born right on 40 weeks weighing 7 pound 2 !
I am squishing Bree into 000 I still have her 0000 under the change table, but seeing as she is getting lines down the sides of her legs from the 000 I doubt she would be getting back into 0000. I had her in a 00 the other night, thinking it was going to be miles to big, but it fit her quite well. I am going to have to go out and buy her some more 00 I think. In saying that though, it is only the wondersuits that it applies to, I had her in a 00 target suit and it didn't fit, it is designed slightly differently. We have a couple of outfits in 00 but they are still too big.
Maybe we can send a PM to the moderator who started this thread to request the "babies born in May" thread ! ?

L is sleeping atm so I have nothing to do until she wakes up. I've just done all the bathrooms etc and now i just need to vacuume and mop. But I'll wait till L wakes before I do that.
Bern - No I'm not exclusively expressing. I feed L first and then bring out the pump. I'm getting about 120 ml in the morning and last night I got 210ml just out of the 1 boob. I keep my EBM in the fridge overnight in case I need to bottle feed be it not enough supply or bubs still hungry etc... and then the next morning I'll freeze it. I know someone has answered your question about freezing so I won't rehash that one lol. I know my body will make enough for bubs but I'm so paranoid about losing my supply I panic if I don't express and get a minimum of 120mls per day. I have in the past been unsuccessful in breastfeeding I was lucky to even get to 5-6 weeks. And even then they were more on formula than breast milk. I would recomend getting an electric breast pump. It is so much easier than a manual hand pump. I have a Tommee Tippee closer to nature electric pump. it's doing the job nicely. I think if this one breaks or something happens to it I might look at a double pump as it would take less time than the single one I have now.
Gemini_girl - L gets excited too. She starts rooting for a feed before i've even sat down lol. I have a bath under the change table as well but i've found she's out grown it lol. So now it's the laundry tub as it's a bit higher than the bath tub but she'll be out of the laundry tub soon haha. She's also started blowing bubbles. My first 2 didn't do that. I just know she's going to be a drooler lol. Yuck I can't stand drool. I hope the move goes well for you. You must be super organised to be moving with a bub. I hope you have some great baby sitters. All the things we now have to cart around haha. Nappies, wipes, bottles now boiling water. We should just take a kitchen with us. I remember when my first was 8 weeks old and ex husband and I drove to Nowra and we stopped off at the big prawn (is that coffs???) for fuel any way I had to pay 50c to get boiling water from them to make DS a formula. What a joke that was at the time. I didn't think of a thermos. I'll remember that tip.
Farmgirl - I wish L was tiny. OB and I were expecting L to be around the 6 pound mark. Pooh to that she was 8 pound 13! She certainly surprised us all lol.

It must be the day for sleeping... Bree woke up for a feed just before 1. I gave her a bottle, had to change her half way through so she would wake up to finish but she has gone right back to sleep again. Tried sitting her up, changing positions, talking to her and tickling her, but she stayed asleep... She slept from 10pm until 7am and is still tired, I guess its hard work doing all this growing!
Bree has grown out of her bath too, but I keep bathing her in it anyway though lol. She is usually pretty good and doesn't wriggle around too much. I sit her up to wash her hair. Although if she keeps up the splashing like she did last night (she splashed all her nappies underneath), I will have to change to other options.. the laundry sink sounds like a good idea. DH has suggested getting a bigger baby bath to sit on the kitchen bench lol He personally doesn't like the bath we have because of the back rest.

Gemini Girl - I bath E in the laundry tub, when we were renovating we specifically chose one that was nice and deep that would fit bubs. We also sometimes shower with her as well.
Porsche - You must be getting a good stash of EBM. A little later I will start expressing and freezing for solids. Great to hear breastfeeding is going so well for you this time. And about the tailbone, they also thought I had fractured mine giving birth, but MRI showed all clear, so diagnosis was nerve damage. Im slowly regaining sensation in my lower back.
Hi to everyone else, no more personals as DD is ready for a feed. Always cluster feeds at this time of night.
AFM - E is 5 weeks old tomorrow, time is flying. Still exclusively breastfed, and not one bottle or formula. Its a hard battle but we are getting there. E is still in 0000 - a tiny thing! (6lb9oz at birth and 9 days overdue). Great sleeper, doing 6 hrs, feed, then 3-4hrs in her bassinette in our room (since birth).
How is everyones elses bubs doing at sleeping? What are your sleeping arrangements?

Farmgirl - Jim was an emergency caesarean. He must have turned at the last minute. My Mum and I had been asking all along if breech could be genetic, and they said no, but clearly it must be! The baby's father, my Mum and I were all breech babies.
I put the longer version on the Belly Buddies thread, but what happened was I had contractions 15 minutes apart until about 11am, then the second time I went to the loo, my waters broke, the pressure was incredible. I then thought I felt a hand, but it was a foot as it turned out. Once my Mum saw the foot, she called the ambulance. I was then on all fours for fifteen minutes I've been told, while they sent a paramedic car and ambulance! from Chermside. Then I remember leaving the bedroom but then being helped to walk downstairs, then back on all fours on the trolley, into the ambulance on all fours down Gympie Road, through the roadworks going on there, and to the hospital. They tried to do an epidural, but by then the contractions were really coming, and so they did a GA. Basically I had to focus on my breathing and they gave me gas in the ambulance.
I've just moved back to my unit on Saturday, so Jim is still missing his grandparents. Grandad cuddled him every night after work and helped wind him. I think he also misses flannelette as Mum and Dad wear that a lot, I will have to get some flannelette pj's.
Yes GG we have been through a lot, I guess what has helped is I love being organised, so that was a massive help, and then Mum and Dad really stepped in to help, my SIL came to the hospital when my Mum couldn't, and everyone was so generous to me. I got gifts from people I haven't seen for years, and it was really odd, I didn't get too many double ups on things, I just seemed to get just what bubs and I needed at that time.
We've had lots of home visits from Qld Health, they stuffed up a bit in hospital, they were short staffed on the Saturday, and so I ate a large meal, which caused a few problems, and then they wanted to discharge me early as well. Apart from that the other staff have gone out of their way for us. I had extra community midwife visits, and now with Child Health, I have had the first one today, and another one on the 19th of July.
With feeding, I had trouble with my supply, it was lucky my parents helped with everything while I was trying to get it going. I was on Motilium. I tried Fenugreek but I took too much and it made me vomit.
It's so annoying though, on the whole everything else has gone well through the pregnancy and we are so lucky to be alive, and the baby's father has really dropped the ball. At least I have Jim now and he is a lovely baby he makes things easy for me.
He is sleeping now, his routine has been thrown by coming home so I think I need to do the same.
