I have the strap quite high across the top of my shoulders and shoulder straps left long, one side up then baby in, bring the other side up while supporting her bottom with the other hand, then lean back a little and reach behind you to clip the strap together behind your head.
I love youtube for sling vids - they have some good ones for using a ring sling too I had Alex in a kangaroo hold today, he loves it as he can see everything! Even managed a bit of flute practice while he was in the sling, tricky as he's such a wriggler Thinks my "Twinkle Twinkle" needs work too - he laughed at me!
Home alone tonight.. scary stuff DH has gone out with mates.. what to doo.. what to dooo... I at least have bubs in bed, she had a massive paddy at dad while I went to the shops becuase she was tired and he couldn't figure it out (oops) I have oven fish and chips for dinner and an iced coffee.
So I figured out a solution to the baby socks always getting caught in the rubber door seal of my front loader washing machine- using a delicates washbag! I used to have to fish them out of the door seal all soaking wet....
How very satisfying.
MIL is on the phone to DH- I get anxiety every time she calls / I think about her now since she was such a pain in the a$$ over Christmas. Guh.
Thanks CK for the youtube videos! I'm still confused, will have to practice! Do you use the heart to heart insert? That's the bit I worry about, getting bubs in the right position.
Amanda - I've had lots of MIL issues in the past few weeks so I can sympathise.
Jan I still use the heart to heart insert but I was reading the instructions the other day again that bub can go in without the insert once there 5.5kg. I think Abby might sit a bit low without the insert so I'll continue using it for now. Hahaha it took me ages to figure out you can move that back strap up too, but I have no dramas doing it up now. When we go on holidays I'm actually thinking of not taking the pram and just take the carrier with us and just picking up a small stroller if we need one.
Hopefully it's Jess's turning point for you and that it all starts to settle.
Ahhh yeah Abby doesn't have full head control at all yet either and I'm glad you mentioned it cos I was starting to get worried.
I think the second one of those vids shows the insert - I still use it for longer trips, but for shorter trips I'll pop him in without it. I think though, that you can just put the cushion from the bottom in as well, rather than the whole thing as another option.
I'm currently debating options for when we have the next baby, whether to go with a tandem pram (which we'd have to buy) or just use the ergo and a buggy board. Seems simple enough to have one in the ergo and one in the pram if needs be, depending on circumstances. I'm looking forward to trying the hip and back carries, they look interesting

Jan, yeah you really have had some inlaw issues hey! I'm still furious at your inlaws for you!!!!!!!!! It's difficult... I just get a slight panicky feeling thinking about MIL cos she's do possessive over violet and kept snatching her off of me / tryibg to say she just had gas she was hungry and i was trying to get her back to feed her and she wasnt really letting me take her back etc when she was hear over Christmas and it makes me feel like whenever she is here next I won't want her to even hold her, which isn't a good way to feel considering she is a grandparent.. Guess its just something I'll have to get over!

CK we bought the strider plus and got the second seat too for our next one- I love the pram - its SOO easy to fold up / down etc and was pretty cheap for a double pram! Having said that, probably the ergo would actually work quite well with one in there and one in the pram! I guess you could practice taking the pram around the place while Alex is in the ergo and see if it's awkward or not? How exciting thinking about having your next baby!!!
And yes the whole not handing her over when mum wants her back is a bit weird. I'd be simply stating that it is time for a feed/nappy change/sleep and not leaving any room for argument.
I've been on a bit of a shopping spree - decided to go full time with cloth nappies, so I bought some rumparooz, a pack of baby beehinds, 2 swim nappies and a Collingwood nappy just for DH My washing machine is going to be working overtime getting them all pre-washed...but yay!
I got mainly itti tutto's and a few BBH but I need to find some nice covers for a couple of bamboos I have. Think the BBH will be better as she gets older.
I had better get my computer back this week or I will do my block at them, an apparent 10 day turn around has turned into 4 weeks so far.
Nothing much happening this end. Abby is a delight as usual, DH is back on shift work starting this Wednesday but has to do a couple of nights as well so I guess I will need to get used to being home alone two nights a week with the three kids. Lucky I got a big Rotty so I feel a little safer.

CK & lolpigs- Yeah the MIL being possessive sucks- thanks girls, guess I'll just have to be even firmer than I was, even if it risks an awkward scene, but I guess she needs to realize! It was like, I was telling MIL that she was upset cos hungry and she kept patting her on the back saying no she had gas, and purposely walking away so I couldn't take her- uhhhhh rude...! I was like um no sorry she's actually hungry, it's time for her feed! Ugh- its just I feel now that I'm getting anxiety issues from it! Just thinking about her makes me feel yuck. My SIL has exactly the same problem with her 2yo daughter..

Danni yeah I get nervous on the nights DH isn't home- he does soccer once a week and boys night once a week too... Yay for the giant dog for feeling a bit safer though! Ha my dogs are small!
SO missy woke up almost hourly last night- I am SO tired!!!!! She surely can't be having a growth spurt, she's already in size 0!!!!!!!
Ugh Amanda Lilly was all over the place too. We have moved to the sleeping bags becuase she kept fighting the wrap. Seems happier but still rolling all over the shop in bed. I find it strange she dosent roll at all in the travel cot however.. funny chicken. Hopefully she will outgrow it.
Yeah I would just tell your MIL to back off. If my MIL or mother for that matter walked off with my kid after I told her it was feed time, I would say no, its feed time and take her and tell her in future while you have no issues with her spending time with her she needs to show you respect and give violet back to you any time you request. Not just feed/change/sleep times. If it continued I would just tell her outright when she wants to do things with violet, no sorry I cant trust that you will listen to me/give violet back to me when I need to do something for her.
It will probably cause some drama but I couldnt cope with that, thats crackers.
My FIL is causing issues currently, he keeps pestering to see Lilly, but wont give us any notice calls the day he wants to see her and wants to come over. Most weekends are booked up with other people who have the common curtesy to call a few days in advance. Hes now cracking the poos because every time he calls we are busy but DH told him tough, he either lets us know in advance or tough luck. FIL is now going on about how he dosent know what he is doing a week in advance.. like seriously why are people so flipping selfish?!
Just talked with hubby and we have decided if we can we are going to have 3 bubs ;D and he wants to see what happens after Lilly is around 6 months old. He wanted to straight away but I was like.. give me a little time to get over it all LOL If the same thing happens as last time, which was we just left it up to nature and we fell pregnant within a month then Lilly will be around 2 when the baby comes.
Exciting We are going to move house in August as our rental is too small. We also talked about the sleep deprevation and decided to get it all over and done with rather than wait, and have another etc. Neither of us are good with it, so if we went back to doing 8 hours a night and then had a newborn I think we would both not cope LOL, may as well keep the no sleep going while we can haha
Edit: Aha! I figured out the rolling shes trying to get comfy, I just saw her doing it and changed the position of her hips slightly and she settled back down to sleep. Funny chicken!

Heheheh, funny little chicken. Alex when he's falling asleep will lift his legs in the air and kick to make his cradle rock sometimes.
And ooooh, exciting Lolpigs - we could be belly buddies again! Good thing your DH is standing ground with your FIL - that'd annoy me too. Or turn around and say to him "well, if you can't make a commitment without holding out to see if you get a better offer, that's your tough luck - can't want to see us that badly"
