CONGRATULATIONS OZ and FAMILY!!!!!! and welcome to the big wide world gorgeous Zoe!!
...my oh my what a speedy arrival our new arrivals seem to be making!
ok, whose next?
MM: woot woo! you got to be the PIG after all! have a beautiful time in Bali...i am jealous! and yeah, like you said, M will have a blast with her grandparents.
G: oh that fall must have been scary. glad to hear that all is good though.
pfft have a memory like a sieve ATM...
MP: our trip stuff includes a bag of tricks...cheap throwaway toys...like a fluffy pen for drawing on paper...and a travel magna doodle was also a mega hit...and less messy LOL!. and books. also she has her favourite dolly and brought that as well as a new cheapy dolly for a surprise..she loved it!
AFM: all pretty good here. have begun preparations for our trip home! and YES MP! have an extra TWO bags of luggage LOL! my fav buy is a windscreen thingy for my bike for leila (she sits on the front). but we scored very well from the rellos in the end with some lovely diesel, bennetton etc for the following winter. so leila will be decked out nicely LOL!...gosh, i will now look mega daggy LOL!
Morning Girls,
G- Glad J is ok you poor luv its always scary when they fall off stuff. ENT is Ear Nose and Throat Dr.
Clare- Gotta luv the excess bags when coming home from holidays.
MM- have a wonderful holiday
All good here today the kids started daycare now on wednesdays and we have swimming the arvo. OMG Livi just loves it she turned to me last week and said I'm swimming mummy... they have a new teacher and I dont go in anymore Livi just does what she is told and I am in total amazement.... Ahhhhhh I love being a mummy
LOl Clare - good on you with the extra bags... I am sure Miss L will look super spunky in all her designer Italian gear. V jealous Mumma here! The windshield for your bike sounds awesome too - I am thinking of getting DH a bike and toddler seat for his bday so he can take N on rides. I'd love to do that too...
Ginger - how is Jimmy? assume all is ok.
Thanks for the tips on stuff for thecar - i do books etc, i am more after someting that cab s tay in the car as a toy. i have put a kicktoy up for J that N used to use and we have some major jealousy issues. so i thought i would get him something new for the car before we drive to the coast next week.
ETA Leanne - WTG Livi! how amazing, i feel bad i havent done the swim lesson thing yet
PP, I have seen some little flip out table things for the car, you hang them off the seat in front and they flip out and they have activities on them. Kids central might be the best place to look for something like that.
G, glad to hear that J was OK once dad was home - always the way isnt' it? I hope he was OK last night.
Leanne, I am not looking forward to swimming lessions this year as I will have to be in the pool with Alister LOL
Well Clare, I see that as a perfect excuse to go shopping for yourself - can't have L getting all the comments about how good she looks ;)
Ange, how are things going with your move? do you have to get much organised?
Not much happening here today - hung out 4 loads of washing that I couldn't hang out yesterday because the weather was either raining or dusty and I knew it would rain today but it had to be hung out kwim, so it's all wet again now because sure enough it rained! But we really really need the rain and plenty of it so I can't complain too much.
hi girls
jimmy is just fine, thanks everyone for helping me, i was so freaked out and felt awful but he is ok...
mm- have a great time in bali
clare- you'll be happy to know it is freezing here atm and raining constantly. my garden is loving it.
mp- i'm thinkiing i need to join ww cos you've done so well. did you make any dinners worth sharing yet?
ange- i know i was supposed to keep monday free....but....(you're gonna kill me ) LOL, i actually have to stay home cos we're getting a couple of beds delivered (long story, deceased estate, awesome brand new top of the range beds yadaa yadaaa) and i can't change the day. are you free tues or wed?
does anyone know where i can buy a really pretty singlet type top to go underneath a dress for a wedding? the dress is too revealing/booby to wear by itself but i can't seem to find anything really pretty to go under it.
Ginger - have you tried metallicus? i often get a little cami from there for under a dress... or allanah hill?
Re the WW - i do find it good, but i guess the 1st week i was always ging to lose a bit... i like the structure of it though. if you want you can just do the same pts as me and iw ill help you, so you dont have to join? hmm meals - well often for lunchi have been having bakes beans on toast - not so exciting but filling and low pts. sushi when i am out (nothing new there). dinners - stir fries are good - load them up with vegies... (made one with beef and egg and veg and one with tofu and veg) - have more of the veg and less noodles/rice. i also did grilled salmon steaks with cous cous and salad the other day (one of my staple meals anyway but low pts) and Noah also loved this... tonight i am making barramundi fillets with corn on the cob and pumpkin/pot mash.. oh maybe i should pm you all of this as the others dont need ot know everyting i eat!
thanks mp, i often have baked beans on toast actually :) we have stir-fry for dinner once a week too. do you have oats for breakfast ever? that is the best diet tip anyone ever gave me. it really works.
i tried metalicus the other day (great minds think alike ey?) and i don't really like to buy stuff from AH for various reasons but mainly cos i used to work there :)
we have a massive massive huntsman spider in the kitchen and lewis is obsessed with it! LOL
why dont you buy from AH???
oats are good... i might try them too - i often add tinned peach to them which is yummy and means i dont want to add other naughty things (i hate banana or i think that would be good)
hhmmm, AH is probably not something i should discuss on open forum but.....you know when you've worked somewhere and seen the 'insides' you sort of can't buy from there? idk, hard to explain i guess. i don't like paying full price for something i used to get for free iykwim? weird mentality i guess.
Congratulations Katie on the birth of Zoe!!!
MP - well done on the weight loss!! Does that mean I will have to eat a muffin all by myself next weekend?? We aim for travelling over nap time, have a big bag of toys and books next to the seat and lately, K has been really into bandaids, so we give her some of them and she puts them on herself! Also snacks that take a while to eat, like the little things of sultanas or apricots.
Ginger - glad that J is OK now, must havev been scary
MM - so sorry that Maddie couldn't come on your holiday, I am sure she will have a ball with the IL's once the ab's kick in. Hope you and DH can relax and enjoy yourselves. I like MP's idea of bringing home something special - my parents left me for a week and went to NZ and I got a little sister 9 months later!!!
Clare - good luck for your return trip
Well we are up at my parents for the week. K is still refusing to have naps for DH and I and I think we have tried everything. On the weekend I read to her for an hour and she just wouldn't sleep - hopped in the car to go and watch DH play cricket and she was out in less than 5 minutes! Anyway, we left her with Mum yesterday while we were out shopping and she fell asleep without a problem. So today DH went out and dropped me at the shops on the way so I walked home while Mum put her to bed - total success!!
They are having all the stormwater pipes redone here so there are so many exciting trucks and diggers driving past, K is loving it! This afternoon we are going to go and try the merry-go-round for the first time!
Can't believe how cold it is here - was hoping to get a bit of clothes shopping in, but it's so cold it's hard to get motivated to buy summery things!
Just a quick one from me - have to share/brag - Jacob just did his first giggles! LOVE IT! I got the same buzz as when N laughed properly for the first time. He is sleeping now but I will be working hard to get a fewmore out of him when he wakes up!
Cally - I will def partake in some muffins (I'm not crazy!), might just have stir fry veg for dinner that night instead of pizza!!
Awwwww that would have melted your heart! I bet he wont do it again for ages now that you want him to do it LOL.
Cally the weather has been crazy cold here lately too and you see summer clothes in the shops and wonder when you will actually need them LOL.
hello beautiful ladies,
I am home now but am buggered, I dont know how anyone sleeps in shared rooms lol. Will try to catch up over the next few days and write by birth story. Zoe's birth was amazing and I still cant believe it was all done and dusted in 3.5hours. Have put pics on FB including our group so MP can see.
Big thanks to H for doing my BA I told you I would make sure I had her before you left lol.
YAY Katie.. off to look at pics now! (thx for adding to the group for me!)
It's been freezing here too and I felt like a bit of a nutcase having the aircon on to test it yesterday LOL.
Katie great to hear from you ...so pleased your home, expect you will feel tired for a bit if you've had a bit of extra bleeding, so rest up plenty and enjoy your Zoe time to the max!
LOL MP I had baked beans today too. Your plan sounds very do-able. It's nearly payday and we've eaten our way thru all the goodies we had on board while the iLs were here so my health kick starts once I've done a big healthy grocery shop. My sister is starting a diet & exercise plan so it's good timing for me to hear about it on all fronts LOL. BTW we used to have a "car bar" - its a bar that fits under and across the car seat and has a steering wheel and horn etc, so the toddler can 'drive' the car when you do. Haven't seen one recently but you could try some of the bigger bub stores.
CAlly, oh yeah diggers are very exciting. Those day sleeps sound like a real struggle, what happens when you just put her to bed with a few toys and leave her by herself?
Ginger, love the house spiders....just provide they stay in the spidey zone. Move into the human zone and that's it, the shoe comes out.
Big woohoo here today, our first day back at Kindergym. We go to a less popular (timewise) session so there weren't as many kids there which is good because E wasn't overwhelmed and I wasn't germ-paranoid. She had a ball, mostly running from thing to thing in quick succession, i expect she will play with each thing for longer when she's more used to them. :)
hi girls!
MP: ooh the car bar thing MD and sherie mentioned sounds good!
Oz: yay! for being home and all those newborn snuggles...will be checking out FB!
G: what?!!!! it's cold????? NNOOOOOOOOOOO! i guess the rain is really good though....hmmm no doubt my bulbs have died back though...
i'd go metalicus for a top...
cally: ohhh need to come to your place! diggers are a massive hit here. leila yells out DIGGER DIGGER over and over and over when she sees one lol.
MD: that is really cool that the kindergym was a success. i am having a mega mummy guilt moment that leila hasnt done any organised sort of activity for a loooong time. i go into hibernation in winter. hopefully i can get her enrolled in a swim class...especially after hearing about that poor NZ family.
sherie: ha ha ha! I am having the opposite feeling here ATM. they have all the heavy jackets and the like and it is sweltering!
AFM: all good here. didnt sleep a wink last night. like not one! So weird. but i think my brain is getting ready for the time transition lol! on my own today with leila which is a bit intense...my italian skills are being stretched to the limit lol.
also a bit down as the TTC train for me is moving at a crazy slow pace...again. sooo dont want to have to wait 2 years like last time...even if DD is PERFECT lol!
Amelia is about to wake but wanted to say that Zoe is adorable!
Welcome home Katie. :D
Trill- Move plans going slowly. Apparently work visas move in PNG time, s...l...o....w.....l.....y. So not expecting to have visas until Dec/Jan. We're in the process of buying a container to pack storage things into. But no major rush!
Having a cracker day here. I have Gastro, so do both the girls. Just changed all Lu's sheets cause she spewed on them. At least there is a washing machine here i guess. Having a slight family crisis, my poor bro has recently (in the last 2 weeks) been diagnosed with depression. He is medicated, but not so well i suspect. He had a massive meltdown today and is in getting assed by the local psych team. Poor bugger is really on the edge. I was so scared he was going to harm himself today. I am relieved he is getting help, but faaaar out, big day. So tired, but wound up. Should go lie down, although i am sure i'll be up driving the porcelain bus soon enough! :p On the upside i've lost 3 kgs. Every cloud has a silver lining right??
Oh Ange, hope you and the girls are feeling better soon.
Katie - little Zoe is just gorgeous!!
MD - DH tried just putting her down and she absolutely screamed. I'm hoping that when her bed arrives we might have some more luck.
Merry go round didn't work yesterday. Sign said it was open until 4, we were there at 3 and it was completely shut. So we had to find a $2 ride instead, she went round and round on a Batman thing and then a babychino. Oh and we found Mr Magnolia, her most favourite library book ever and Granny bought it for her. Super exciting!!
Today we are heading to the pool. Was going to take her little cousin (6mths younger) who has never been swimming before, but just too tricky with different nap times etc.
And tonight, yummy dessert with friends (and no babies!!)
Oh Ange - what a day. I hope you and the girls are better today... and I hope your brother improves with the meds and all your support. I have been in a similar situation myself (family member and also a friend) and so i know how hard these days can be. Thinking of you.
Cally - your desert out sounds fun. i should arrange something like that with my friends. I cant really get out for a full dinner often anymore but am sure i could manage desert. v brave heading to the pool in this weather!!! Did you end up doing some shopping - i bought 2 summer dresses in telast 2 days - wishful thinking for some warmth i think!
V stoked as the holiday house in NZ i wanted is ours!!! and it is fully equipped for a toddler and a abub and the lady who owns it seems wonderful - s0 v v happy with that, she is giving me heaps of advice for the trip too!
Took J to the osteo today, there is some improvement but we need to go more... also his moo goo arrived this morn and i put the excema cream on and i swear there is alraedy an improvement. got some more giggles out of him last night too. am in a v good place with my little fam of 4 atm!
MP - dessert out is great as we can go after they are asleep when they are really little or just let DH's do the bedtime routine. Awesome news on NZ
Yes we went to the pool (CISAC). Was lovely in the water, but pretty cold getting out! I went and had a shower and got dressed, then mum brought K in, had their shower and I got her dressed so none of us got too cold. Unfortunately, while K was sitting on my lap being dried off with the towel, she wee-ed on me! So I had wet pants to wear home - lucky they were just black trackies.
sorry to be brief but i really need to know- how many of the bubs are still having day sleeps? how long for? how long are they sleeping at night/in total over a 24hour period?
day sleeps are turning into the biggest drama in the world around here and i really don't know what to do about it. help!!!
Ginger, Missy E *usually* goes to bed around 8pm (give or take half an hour) and wakes anywhere from 7-8 am. She sleeps pretty much every day (has the stray random day where she misses her sleep or just gets a quick kip in the car) minimum usually 45 mins - 1.5 hrs but lately it's been around the 2 hour mark (mostly because she's been performing in an all singing all dancing one-toddler broadway show every night after the lights go out). Sometimes it depends on how busy and active she has been.
so she's still sleeping a lot then....he's completely doing my head in. flat out refusing to day sleep, even though he's tired, and then becoming super destructive in the afternoons, basically from tiredness. i got super angry with him today, which obviously didn't get me anywhere.....
Ginger, Sorry, I thought every one else would jump in and comment but instead it looks like I'm rubbing it in your face  Sorry, sweet. Are you able to get him to lie down and have a 'rest' - even on the lounge or on your bed - or better still on his bed - and watch some telly/listen to a story/some other quiet non-moving activity? Sometimes if you can enforce this he might end up snoozing off, kwim? My other strategy is to serve a big snack - or even give dinner v.early - just because sometimes they're hungry, not tired. Missy E just wolfed down a dry weetbix, for eg.
he's fallen asleep on the floor now. great..so now i've got no hope of getting him to bed before 10pm...thanks for helping me. sorry, i've just had a really bad day here and am getting upset. hopefully tomorrow i'll be in a better mood xoxo
Ginger is there any chance he's teething or has a hidden ear infection - when Missy E went thru her refusing sleeps it was actually because of an ear infection (no other symptoms, no temp, only green snot). Hang in there sweetie, we've had our horrible afternoons too, sometimes it's more about how depleted you are feeling and then they push the boundaries and it's too much.
Ginger, we are in the middle of losing day sleeps. He has had about 2 in the last few weeks. Sometimes he will crash in the afternoon but if I let him stay asleep then we can't get him to bed/wakes up all night so I let him have a 20-30 minute refresher nap and then wake him up.
MP, yay for giggles. I can't wait! So far we are getting some baby talk and a few smiles.
Ange, hope the gastro is shortlived. At least your bro has been diagnosed. Hopefully the meds work for him.
Cally, lol at getting wee-ed on, yay for black pants!. What happens if she doesn't have the nap? Is it a complete train wreak? Sounds frustrating.
The weather has been wet for the last couple of weeks and we have watched the movie Cars many many times now. W tells me what is about to happen, what is happening and then what just happened lol. He also plays out scenes with his matchbox cars and if the cars need new tyres he gets the forklift to do it. Very cute.
Amelia is doing well. She is up just over a kg on her birthweight. She gave the midwifes a rolling demo the other day and they agreed there wouldn't be any tummy time for her.
hi everyone,
sorry super quickie -
Ginger - Hannah is being a little trying at sleep time too. she didn't have one today - kept coming out of her room (she can open the door) So in the end I just gave up. She would have gone to sleep too late and been up till late tonight.
I'm thinking i need to get her more active in the mornings though. Today she didn't do too much, which may have contributed.
bbl- dh just arrived home and i haven't cooked dinner yet!!!!
hi girls
Sarah still has a day sleep around the 2 hour mark. She goes to bed at 7pm (give or take) and then is awake at 5.30 every morning. I agree with just popping a movie on and having quiet time, sometimes thats enough to recharge them or let him drift off.
hi to everyone else
PS is anyone else loving the pics of Zoe!!! What a cutie!
Hi girls!
G: oohh no day sleep is HARD. for the most part Leila still sleeps 2ish hours an afternoon...but there are the odd days where she flat out refuses despite my best efforts to convince her. if she is happily chatting away to herself i let her be, or if she is upset or just not timing out, i take her out and usually i pop on a DVD. this way she snuggles into her blankie and zones out for 20 minutes or so and i find that although not perfect in keeping her from exhaustion it kinda gives her enough energy to last until after dinner and a slightly earlier bed time (even in 10 minutes earlier).
Ange: our visas in Fiji arrived hmmmm about 6 months after we arrived there LOL! So i can totally relate to the slowness! bummer about the gastro (pardon the pun LOL!) hopefully it will pass soon...
Cally: does K like swimming? it is so cold in the changerooms at our pool. i am always nervous to go in winter for that very reason....wish we had a fully heated pool environment LOL! although the hot showers are always nice.
Arte: leila is like that with her VIPO dvd. she has imaginary conversations with vipo and his mates...and she 'draws' his picture all the time lol!
MD: we have the broadway show here too! it has been happening the last few nights....hmmmmm.....i sooo know that our girls are going to know eachother IRL in the future LOL!
AFM: one more sleep til we get on a jet plane...well, that is if i can carry all our bags in time to catch the bloody thing LOL! DH 'disappeared' this morning and left me with leila, his unmedicated biplor brother who was having a manic moment and bought all of the COOP (a local supermarket) and was cooking a bazillion dishes (while telling me that he is worried that i am poisoning and condeming leila to a life of obesity by feeding her peanut butter), meanwhile i had to pack ALL OF OUR BAGS and wrestle with a bored and tired Leila...not happy jan. cant wait to be home LOL!
had one last shopping spree for leila which was lovely...lots of Zara Baby and i even bought myself a top! so quite awesome.
Clare, wishing you the best of luck for the flight. Hopefully all the holiday action will catch up with L and she will sleep for at least a decent chunk of it. LOL at poisoning L with peanut butter! I hope your BIL is a good cook.
MD, ok, so I have finally had a chance to look at some Montessori stuff and I can't for the life of me figure out what is different to normal school! Perhaps NZ just has a Montessori based philosophy? All early childhood teaching is child-initiated learning, the children are taught about things as they come across them while having free rein play. There is very little structured activity in early childhood, which parents complain about as the kids don't know what has hit them when they start school and suddenly have to do what the teacher tells them. I am really confused about it. Although I guess it is irrelevant because there is no Montessori schools around here anyway lol
Ginger, how's it going today, are you more on top of it all?
I want to apologise to Ange, sounds like you had a really rotten day yesterday and I didn't respond to your post at all. So pleased your bro is being assessed, hope they can help him. FYI there's a really good mental health organisation called Mind Australia who are active in Vic & they focus on a recovery framework (ie not just propping ppl up but teaching them how to live fulfilled lives despite their mental illness) - they have some great resources & can offer support and respite services to families as well. Worth contacting.
Arte - I think you're right, some of the montessori concepts have leaked over to early childhood learning in Australia, but I think montessori is more prescriptive when it comes to the particular learning materials used, and the way the teacher interacts with the child, and the way concepts are introduced and built on. It's not free-rein play at all. Have you read the Montessori method Wikipedia page? It gives a pretty detailed description.
Clare sorry I was LOLing about your DH's peanut butter rant - I guess it's a bit culturally offensive in a country like Italy? BTW I *love* PB but I have just discovered ABC spread - almonds, brazil nuts & cashews....mmmmmmm!
Cally I meant to say yesterday - woohoo on Mr Magnolia find - DD1 one loved it & borrowed it several times from the library.
MP might have to follow your lead and get some Moogoo for DD1 - she's very dry & rashy ATM.
Thanks MD- He's been admitted to a private psych hospital in melb. So hopefully he'll get the help he needs. It's been a pretty scary and awful few days. I'll look up mind Australia. Thanks.
Ange - hope your brother is doing better.
Arte - we aren't sure what happens if K doesn't have a day sleep as we actually haven't had a day like that yet, which is one of the reasons I don't believe she is ready to drop her sleep.
Clare - super good luck for the trip home!! K absolutely loves swimming. I wish we had an indoor pool near us that was closer than 45 minutes away.
MP - I got a mini magna doodle from Toys R Us at Brand Depot today (near the playdoh) and it was an absolute hit when I got home so I am hoping that is a great hit in the car tomorrow.
Ginger - K sleeps from 8 to 6 or 6:30 each night and day sleeps range from 45 minutes to 2.5 hours.
Picked up K's new toddler bed today. Can't wait to set that up, although we may have a bit of trouble getting it into the car with everything else so it might have to wait a little bit untili M&D come down next.
Also got K a Mr Potato Head (80th anniversary edition) today for Christmas - $40 at Target, but it was $60 at Toys R Us - and it wasn't on sale either. Ridiculous!
hello hello hello, hopefully you all remember me?? LOL sorry as you can imagine life has been busy here. I have been trying to keep up but am failing miserably lol. Mum has gone home now and we have had our first lot of visitors. Tomorrow is our first day alone as family of 4, just one more week and then DH has 2 weeks off, I cant wait. I am absolutely in love with little Z and just cant get enough of her, she is feeding so well which is such a huge relief after the tough start I had with L. L is so great with her, he kisses her all the time and loves to sit and have a cuddle before going off to play. He seems to have grown so much and put on 50kg's lol. I changed his nappy the other day and he just seemed to big to be wearing nappies. His speech is getting clearer and clearer too, such a little boy now.
Anyway sorry for the me post. I hope that everyone is well and that I haven't missed something super important.
They do seem like they age 5 years overnight don't they? It's so great to hear that things are all going well for you. She is just the cutest thing!
Sorry for being so slack lately. Its just one of those weeks again. School goes back tomorrow though thankfully! Everyone is just about at the end of their tether and the kids are quite tetchy. Erin had a lovely day out for her birthday and was super impressed with her iPod we gave her - just a little 1gb shuffle and I had to get Paige one because she's wanted one for ages and wanted to spend her birthday money on one only I never got round to it but our local harvey norman had them for only $49 to get rid of them as the new ones are out now.
Where is everyone this weekend? Don't tell me I am the only one with no life hanging around the house!
Oz, Zoe looks adorably perfect!
Trill, I can imagine it must be lovely for school to go back lol
Ginger, hope everything is going o.k for you.
MD, I read the other thread somewhere about your lump scare  I can't imagine how scary that must have been for you.
Nothing much happening here, weather still to wet to go outside so a boring but quite relaxing weekend. DH entertained W this morning so I got a much needed sleep in.
Arte, that's us most weekends - went out to a movie last Sat night with DH (ILs watched the DDs for us) - and I was ASTONISHED to see that other people are actually out and about after dark on the weekend . YAY for your sleep in, I'm in sore need of a sleepin after my big weekend of going out both days! Thanks for the hug, yep it was pretty scary but on the upside I'm feeling a bit more motivated now to get the breast off once and for all.
Trill well done with the ipods, DD has a generic brand MP3 player and loves it, so handy. Yay for school going back.
Katie - Z is absolutely gorgeous, so pleased to hear she is feeding well too. :) I bet L seems really big next to L, hard to think he was teeny like that not so long ago isn't it.
Cally I keep making a mental note about the magna doodle (since someone mentioned them a few weeks ago, renee??) but keep forgetting every time I"m at the shops. Mr PH will be heaps of fun, but I bet he gets played with by all the adults as well - compulsively fiddleable.
Ange, how's your bro going, hopefully starting to stabilise asap.
Clare, I think you must be home safe & with the long flight behind you now, hope you're not too hungover um no not that jet-thingied ah where's my brain ....jet-lagged (that's it)! :p
AFM went to a meet up with a heap of ladies from a funky boobie forum yesterday - ah so glad i did, so many inspiring and energised women getting on with their lives. So good for my soul to meet them. Then today we went to a christening up in the barossa, had lunch etc gazing out over acres of vines - just gorgeous. However, DH packed DD's bag this am so we turned up hatless () so I *tried* to keep her in the shade but I'm ashamed to say she's a bit pink tonight.
