Thanks for the pressie suggestions girls. For some reason I thought we would need to spend a few hundred on him, but this must be excessive. I dont know anything about christenings lol. I like the money box ideas or even MD's cutlerly suggestion - MD where do you buy the wiltshire ones? If I go with the money box do I get it engraved? Also where on earth do I buy a catholic book with blessings etc!? Hahaha yes....I am the godmother with no clue about religion!
Noni - Dont apologise for all that TT info, that was very handy, thanks I didnt even know you could get TT undies. I will take all the tips you can offer, must admit I've been following A's progress through your FB updates collecting tips hehe. M knows when she does a wee and poo etc & gets up during nappy changes. Also she sits on the toilet a few times a day wiping. This could mean she is ready right? Sorry I have no idea with TT!!!! Might speak to the daycare girls tomorrow. Where are you applying for jobs? What about a supermarket or department store? Its so hard to get a job isnt it especially when your hrs are a tad limited due to kids
Arte - What a nutter, you would think he would have learnt his lesson the first time.
mm - im applying for anything that will suit with the kids eg part time and reasonably close to home.. all my experience is in childcare so thats what im looking for mainly but am looking around for other stuff too admin or retail etc..
generally the readiness signs include, knowing when they are about to or just have done a wee or poo, not liking being wet or dirty, going a reasonable amount of time between bowl or bladder movements.. she dosnt have to be showing all those signs to start tho.. thats great that she sits on the toilet. daycare girls should be able to help you out with wether they think shes ready or not too but with asha shes not going at daycare only with me really but shes getting better (starting to go into the bathroom etc when im not there..) another thing that can be helpful is if u doccument around what times she is going and then sit them on the toilet/potty at that time, then ur more likely to get some kind of result you can prasie.. really depends how u wanna approach it.. with asha i just jumped straight in, putting her in undies and constantly talking about wees and poos going in the potty, redirecting her to the potty when she had an accident and having her sit on the potty when i went to the toilet explaining to her mummy was doing a wee etc. there were alot of accidents but she picked it up quick, weeing in the potty on her first day and having a day without accidents after about 2 weeks (tho this varies shes only had 2 or 3 accident free days in the about 3 weeks ive been doing it but she dosnt have many now) the most important thing is patience coz it can take some kids a while to catch on but once they do it does make life alot easier.. feel free to ask any questions i feel good im finally useful for something lol!
MM There should be a catholic bookshop in Perth near the city somewhere - they will have dozens of suitable books plus all the catholic paraphernalia you could ever dream of (and more). Brace yourself for lots of cheesy religious pictures, statues, etc LOL! I usually get my cutlery at Harris Scarfe, have seen them occasionally at Big W, bought the last lot at a store here called "Bevilles". Failing that you should be able to get them online at Peters of Kensington.
ETA - Arte - well you could always go for a username/avvy change to throw em off your scent??? And just because you've twigged, doesn't mean she will have...esp if your facebook settings are all set to 'friends only' and not 'friends of friends'.
Noni - I feel your pain. Take your time, the right job *will* come up and everything will click into place for you. When I went back to work after DD1, I was able to get some resume writing help from a scheme for mothers who had been out of work for more than 2 years caring for children. There was also funding to pay for some courses (which I never did) but it might be worth asking around if there's something similar in your state. Getting a professional to look over your resume gives you a head start.

We have a Harris Scarfe here, pretty good store for our little country town!
Arte - haha snooping!! Remember, MP was in the year below me at our school and I'm sure there are other school people from there on BB.
Well we are up to 6 really unsettled nights with just one stupid molar!! All her other teeth came down with no issues whatsoever, however these molars are terrible. Panadol and Nurofen don't seem to make a difference. She likes the Bonjela, but I think it is the taste of it more than anything. Will try the Brauers tonight and see if that makes any difference. DH and I have been taking it in turns out in the spare room (next to her room), but he thinks I'm a big softie and will let her hop into bed with me too easily and then we'll have that issue to deal with later.
MM: i'd be looking for the silverware stuff at those old school style jewellery stores (you know the ones that also sell the statuettes etc). and yeah, having it engraved with the name could be nice...(can also be done at the jewelry place...
Cally: oh no!!!! 6 nights in a row is TOUGH. beh, i probably would also have her in with me, we have had no trouble getting her back into her bed before though...K generally sleeps well in her own bed yeah?
Noni: i reckon MD has the sage advice. do you have a friend that can look over your CV? one bit of advice i was given was to keep it to a MAX of 3 pages. they dont care about the really old jobs, rather they want to know the more recent stuff and how it relates to what you are applying for ITMS.
hang in there babe, something will come up, i am sure of it!
Oz: i'm sure that he will settle well over the next couple of weeks. great that you will have DH there to help with the struggles though.
AFM: well, DH is off to pick up the truck, Leila is asleep and i am on here LOL! gosh, i hope that we can get the most of it done today/tonight. i so dont want to have to be moving big stuff tomorrow. i am fine with moving stuff that can go in the car, but not truck stuff. gosh, so much crap in our lives...have put HEAPS out on the street for passers-bys and they have been snapping it up, so am happy with that at least.
thanks guys.. yeh i have dh to elp me with the resume he works in employment services lol.. he works in the disability program but yeh knows all about that stuff.. i know ill get there im just a winger lol
cally - hope that molar pops through and stops giving u so much trouble!!
hi girls
i've been so MIA!!!!!! it's hard to jump back in. been skimming......heading to big w this week to get some of those TT pants.
good news is i've got lewis into Montessori starting term 1 next year, it's absolutely divine with beautiful little environments set up. i'm really looking forward to starting him. bad news is it's exxxyyy, let's hope i can get it past DH!!! LOL
hope everyone is well, loving the warm weather here for once- we've been spending lots of time outdoors and today we went and visited my friend whose shetland pony just had a foal. gorgeous! except for the fact that lewis kept calling the poor little thing a 'whore' LOL
holy crap ladies i have a job interview on thursday!! talk about short notice! its for a company who provides in home care to people who cant access it for various reasons.. parent with mental illness or child with disabiliy, or sometimes the parents have no one to do the pick up drop off from care etc.. u become a contractor for them and they give u different jobs through them.. this ones just once a week on a saturday.. im soo nervous i think i might vomit!!
Noni - do lots of practicing with DH before the interview, I'm sure you will be great!! Good luck!
Ginger - yep, I'm definitely heading into BigW next time I'm up in Canberra. Congratulations on getting L into Montessori!
Clare - did you get all that big stuff moved? How did L go with her new room?
KMart have those bags of 100 balls on sale for $20 at the moment - any idea how many would go into a 1 metre diameter pool? Would we need a couple of bags or just get away with one (or would that be too boring?)
Cally, I think 100 would be enough, we had 50 in ours and it was o.k.
Noni, good luck for the job interview
Ginger, I didn't realise Montessori charged! Do you have to pay for all kindys there? Or is it because he is younger? Over here all 3 and 4 year olds are eligible for 20 free hours of early childhood care (kindy or daycare)
Clare, good luck with the moving. Isn't it amazing how much crud you accumulate. I have just picked up a whole heap of boxes from mums - I have no idea why I thought I would need a New Kids on the Block cassette tape lol
I can't figure out who the girl from my school is on here, so I can only assume she doesn't know it is me either. My username is nothing she would recognise and I doubt she knows my married name anyway. I guess that is what I get for being nosey.
Yesterday was a real bummer - first I called the insurance about the meat and they will only pay out what we paid for it (minus the excess) but it will cost a load more to replace it because we don't have the chance to buy cheap homekill again. So we will be really out of pocket from that. Then I called the garage and found out it is going to cost a fair bit to fix the car that is in there, more annoying because one part only needs replaced again because the mechanic put the wrong part in when he fixed it 6 months ago. Then I called the council about the resource consent we need to build on some land we have. Three of the neighbours have opposed it, so now there is going to be a hearing. I have been dealing with the whole thing and really want to go, but I would have to take A and DH would have to take time off to look after W (it is down the other end of the country near the IL's) so it is easier if DH just goes.
Arte - I can't believe the insurance will only pay you what the meat cost. That is ridiculous! And how annoying about all the other things too. Shame you can't go to the hearing, frustrating when you have been working on it up to now.
noni- best of luck for your interview, you will be great i'm sure.
arte- what are you building?
i *think* you have to pay for all kinders, well all the ones i've enquired about charge you anyway, idk? some like to charge a lot more than others too i've noticed. it's all v confusing.
cally- i'd get one bag of balls to start with. you can always add more later.
techincally it's not kinder/preschool, it's daycare run by Montessori as a feeder program for their kinder/school I would imagine because you can't start kinder/preschool till you are 3, so hence the fees. You do have to pay for all preschool/kinder but if you are working and your child is at an approved centre you can claim a fair percentage back.
Arte, that is so crap about everything that's going on for you. I hope your DH can get the council sorted.
have been busy busy busy again - it's only a short term and so much is packed into it. Plus DH is on nightshift again so I've not been near the computer during the day.
Noni, good luck with your interview, be yourself and if it's the right job they will see who you are and snap you up!!!
Arte - good luck re the hearing. What are they objecting against, that you're going to build, or is it something in particular. Not much good having land if you can't do anything with it. Are you gearing up for a move closer to the IL's?
Trill i was LOLing in another thread about working out how you're gonna get the cubby in and installed under the cover of darkness on Christmas Eve!!! Can you maybe take all the kids out (for dinner with family/carols/whatever) but have DH stay behind with his bro and construct it then lead the kids in the front door when you go home so they can't see it out the back in the dark? I always leave some of my parcel wrapping too late and there's always a late night in there somewhere.
I'm getting SO EXCITED about Christmas this year. Guess it's because we're back home. Made worse because I've got a few of the Christmas magazines floating around now. Anyone doing the BB Secret Santa???
Ginger - congrats on finding such a lovely preschool. Good luck getting the expense approved by DH.
I know MD! It will be delivered to Mum's place anytime after November 14, and I will take it to the IL's house and leave it there till Christmas eve then get DH to get it and we'll just do it once the kids are in bed. We had to do the trampoline that way a few years ago LOL. Luckily once they are asleep it's never been an issue to do the Santa thing. I guess being back in SA you also have the whole parade thing too.
Hi girls
Haven't read everything yet but just wanted to tell you I am here!!
Had a great trip to coast including a much too short coffee and scdumpfious muffin with cally and miss k.
Ended up home a day early as both boys were unwell unfortunately
Heading back to the coast this weekend too but will try to pop on and read and post properly before then
Hope everyone is well
MP - Glad to see you back, sorry to hear that the boys are unwell though
Noni - You are a natural with kids so you have nothing to worry about with your interview. Good luck. Thanks heaps for all the tt tips, I am so busy this wk but hopefully Sat I can get down to Big W for some knickers. Lots of sitting on the toilet & wiping again today.
Trill - I missed your post about the bargain cubby buy, I think I was in Bali at that point. Well done though, the kids will be so over the moon.
MD - Oh good god I am so far from religious I am gonna stick out like no tomorrow in a catholic shop.
Ginger - That sounds great for L! Well done. GL with the hubby lol. I have no idea about all this, when am I supposed to start looking for kindy etc?
Girls I took M for her appt with the ENT Dr today & he said both her ears are pretty yucky, and due to her history of earaches he is booking her in to get grommets in two weeks time. So relieved as I was worried we would have to wait. She had a hearing test yesterday & she has mild hearing loss. So he was a bit worried about that & wants to do the op asap. Such a lovely Dr so glad we went to him. The best bit is he is fitting us into a public hospital due to us having no private health insurance. He said we will notice a difference with her pretty soon after her operation. Cant wait!!!
mm - that's great that the Dr wants to do the operation straight away. One of my good friends little boy - 3 years old - just had Grommits put in and his Adenoids (sp?) out. He also had some mild hearing loss. Poor little Maddie I meant to say re the present for your godson - if you google my teddy, you'll see you can get a personalised teddy bear made. They cost about $70 though, so not sure if that's too much.
noni - good luck with the interview. I can understand why you're nervous - but i'm certain you will do really well
Mp - hope the boys are feeling better now.
Md - I'm doing the Secret Santa this year. I can't wait to see who i'm buying for!
Trill - I hear you on the short term thing!! I can't believe how full my calendar is for the rest of the term!
Ginger - that's great that you got L into a kindy for next year. (if it's too exxy, you could just stop getting the Country Road catalogue delivered to your door lol)
Clare - hope the moving is going beautifully for you. It will be so exciting setting up and decorating your new house.
Arte - What a horrible week you've had! That's three things though, so hopefully from now on you'll have only good luck.
Hello to all of you other lovelies too
MM - meant to say, I'm Catholic, but the way my girls ran amok at the school mass the other day you'd think we'd never been in a church!! We were sitting at the front (it was a picnic style mass) and during communion she got away from me and went up to the priest. He blessed her, but then she pointed to the bowl - she wanted some bread too lol.
