ok girls, see you soon
if you get lost, call me- have you both got my mobile?
just a tip - better off approaching mountain from montrose (canterbury rd) than ferntree gully if possible?
Hope everyone is having a good time at the meet-up.
Trill, DH has been really good lately and giving me quite a bit of time for study/naps. I don't think he understands how exhausting first tri can be, but he is being very helpful.
MD, I don't think it is blankets because she is not even in bed when she is up late. She is wide awake playing in the lounge. I have tried to get her to sleep before she is tired but it just doesn't work. We do tea, bath, play and bed every night. Some nights she will go to bed at 8pm, then others she is up until 11pm with the same routine. Generally after a late night she will have an earlier day nap the next day and then an earlier night, but the day after she is back to a later day nap (around 2pm) and may or may not go to bed early. It really just seems like she doesn't need a lot of sleep.
had a LOVELY time today guys! thanks guys! and especially a big thanks to Ginger for letting us invade (and trash lol) your home...i am so sorry that i didnt even offer to clean up...man, that is so embarrassing
MP: it was great to see you babe...was too long between drinks...or in this case between kids lol! sorry that we couldnt hang out longer (yes, i got lost guys )
Arte: i'm not sure how this will go down...but i *think* i was alot like Amelia...i seriously just couldnt sleep until say 11pmish. apparently i was always like that. in the end the only rule that mum (and my Oma and Opa when i lived with them) was that the light had to be off and i had to be in bed and not talking too loudly. i guess A is prolly too young to be given such specifics, but i reckon that if you can just get her to try chilling out in her bed. my problem was that i just could never turn my brain off. now i wish that i had of had some relaxation techniques or something up my sleeve back then (it wasnt stress btw, just constant thinking and daydreaming ITMS).
Glad you all had a good time. Wish I could come one day.
Cass, I strongly suspect she is just the sort of person who doesn't need much sleep. She has always survived on a few 20 minute catnaps when other babies were sleeping for 3-4 hours during the day and she has stayed up late ever since she was a newborn. I can see the cycle - early, early, later, very late, early etc, like she stores up on sleep when she goes to bed at a normal time and then after a couple of days she is just not tired enough to go to sleep. My next kid is going to sleep. I have put in a pre-order lol Surely it isn't too much to ask to get one out of three that will actually go to bed and sleep the whole night!
Surely you can't be that unlucky to get another baby like that Arte LOL.
Cass, lovely to hear that you all had a great time today.
A enjoyed his first day. I wasn't really sure what he would be like because he'd already had several meltdowns before we even left home LOL but he was fine. I showed him where the toilet was and got him settled doing a painting and then said "OK I'll see you later and we'll go have lunch' and he was like "OK bye!" and that was that. It felt kinda weird leaving a child at preschool and not having any more kids with me - with the other 3 I always had a baby and a toddler so it was a strange feeling walking out on my own. But I made the most of it and went and had a haircut. Today he was only there from 11.30 to 1pm, but next week it will be from 9 am to 1 and then the week after will be 9am to 3pm.
oh sherie: that must of felt incredibly powerful and strange for you finding yourself walking out like that with not a little person by your side...
awesome news that he enjoyed his day though! 75% of the battle...the other 25% is how we cope lol!
Arte: no not too much to ask...you have certainly got some interesting (non)sleepers lol! this time for sure you gunna get a good sleeper
AFM: well, leila is still worrying me slightly with her skinniness. i might have to take her to the GP, i just need him to say that she is totally normal and just has a penchant for a fast metabolism.
Cass, I'm sure she is fine. I've seen some pretty skinny kids in my time and all of them were healthy. Even among A's preschool group there is a real variety of sizes and they are all a similar age. And P was uber skinny too - remember me talking about the skirt she grew out of at 5yo that was a size 0? She was skinny for ages and it's only just been the past 18mths-2 years that she is gaining a bit of weight. She has only just cracked 22kg.
Trill A looked so adorable all ready for school, its great he had a good day.
Cass if she seems well then I would think she is just a skinny kid. Can't hurt getting her checked out though.
Arte its great your DH has been so helpful.
JM will you be back in May? I can do May. Anyone else wanna come along on a trip to Melb in May????
MP how is N doing now? I hope he is ok.
Been at the beach all morning so the kids have crashed. I have about a million things I should be doing but feel like the only computer time I have had lately is for work.
JM - K is not going to preschool this year. I was so focussed on the Canberra system where they only do one year that I was only going to ring up and enrol for next year. Somehow all Trill's talk about A starting preschool never really clicked with me (yeah, there are blond tendencies). Anyway, I was chatting with another mum at the day care pick up yesterday and her littlie (who started kindy this year) went last year and the little sister just started. She was raving about so I will ring up and enrol K on Monday. Apaprently there is a waiting list, so we'll see how we go. It is just a community run one, there is a government one in the Bay, but it is 30min from work.
Cass - glad your mum is OK
MP - is N still on the mend, poor little thing.
Oz - Mmm, Melbourne in May...... Think we will hit the beach later this afternoon. Although it's hard to motivate getting out of the nice cool a/c house and go to the 35 degree beach.
Arte - my BIL sounds like A. His day care teachers would so proudly tell his Mum that they got him to have a nap and she would then dread the evening because he would be up past 11. And my hairdresser this morning was telling me of a friend who's littlies are regularly up past 10.
Cally: yeah i am totally flummoxed by the kindy stuff too. i just put my head in the sand and sing real loud lol. Leila's creche does run a kindy program that she is in, so i guess i can get away with it. but i really should look into something for next year (i would prefer to do a commuity one IYKWIM). waiting lists here too though
Oz: i can be in melbs in May
we are all good here in northcote! although admittedly we were on a minor flood warning for the creek at the end of our street, but really nothing too major. (apparently we are in a flood zone...but no one here has actually ever seen it happen). the creek was looking pretty spectacular though. we all went for a walk to check it out (along with half of northcote lol).
Sherie: see, normally i would be fine with her weight, but there is something not quite right. she is lacklustre and her colour is a bit off...argh, i dont know! i dont want to run to the GP though and 'medicalise' something that in all likelyhood is totally normal IYKWIM....what to do, what to do...
Cass, if they are a bit anaemic, they can look pale and it also interferes with their appetite. DD1 was prone to this for a while, I got her onto an iron-fortified juice + weetbix for brekky and that seemed to help, appetite picked up remarkably. Have a peep inside her bottom eyelid, if it looks pale that could be your answer. In the meantime might be a good idea to get it checked out too, for peace of mind just as much as anything.
I have a friend whose street really did flood, she had water lapping at her porch, people kayaking up the road. Kinda funny - after the rain stopped and the water receded, anyway. It's extreme.
Cally did you make it to the beach - soooo worthwhile once you actually get down there. I need to swim more, bit of a longer drive for us than you though LOL.
Oz, yep I'm up for Melb in May...that gives me a little more time to get my financial shambles sorted out.
JM, yeah, sorry, I missed the 5.45am flight . Anyhoo I was in demand on Fri, turned up at work and for some weird reason *everyone* wanted to talk to me. It was like being the office rockstar for a day. hehehe.
Arte, I reckon if you want a sleeper this time, you need to start playing some sleep-hypnosis CDs while bubby is in utero...LOL -worth a shot???
thanks for coming the other day girls, was nice to meet you both IRL and meet the kids too!
you are all welcome to come to my place for a day in May if we can organise it with everyone, just bring your winter woolies as it does snow here in May!
Cass, it could be what MD said or it could just be the crappy weather knocking her around a bit too.
Cally, L only went for one year too. We just didn't think it was important at that point for him to have 2 years at preschool because we were going to playgroup and stuff. And it made no difference to him once at school either. We only sent the rest for two years because the playgroup folded so there wasn't that outlet for them anymore.
