Arte, we're getting most of the TV3 footage streaming on ABC24...it's just unbelievable. I've been to Christchurch and stood outside of the cathedral, I can't believe it's destroyed like that (and possibly some people in it too :(). So many people wandering around in a dazed shock. Lots of Aussies love NZ and Kevvie was just on the telly saying how Aust is going to deploy their maximum response of rescue workers etc today/tonight. :hug:

G- a friend of a friends 22 month old drowned in a water trough two weeks ago. I am surprised they don't have either the yard or dam fenced, too dangerous for my liking too.

We've got some engineers from work heading across tonight to check out the damage and do their bit for Christchurch. Looks terrible on the news - I was chatting with someone else from work this afternoon and he was only there last week, looking at the cathedral!

Apparently you can drown in about 20 seconds, i guess no one saw him fall in. My friend was so traumatised she called ALL of her friends with kids to warn them how quickly it can happen. I just read back a bit through the thread G, :o Far out on L burning himself. How frightening. I put the girls in the creche at the gym once, it was good b/c they were just there and i felt i could pop in and check on them anytime. As it turned out the carers weren't so great so we didn't go back! but worth a shot....
Trill- The contract here is for 3 years, but it's a rolling contract so we will stay as long as we are enjoying it. Out where we live it's not as bad as in the city. Friends in Lae can't go for a run or walk on the street without a guard. But i can walk around wherever i like, and never feel unsafe really. I mean, there have been a couple of incidences that frightened me but nothing serious.
Arte- Thanks for birthday wishes. :) Had a lovely day. If i were you and thought that knowing the sex might help with bonding, then i definitely would.
Isa- I used to just use a muslin cloth if i ever felt the need to cover bub. i don't think you need a specially designed one.
Had a fantastic weekend at a friends beach shack, the boys and Lulu caught fresh tuna and crayfish, so we ate well, swam and had a very relaxing time. The kids loved it. Lu was quite hilarious today. She stood on top of the esky and made us all sit in front of her 'stage', then preceded with "Ladies and gentlemen, buys and girls, weeeeeeelcome to the show' She then told us stories, sang songs and entertained until i told her it was time to stop and dragged her off the esky, my poor friend must have been sick of it! Her imagination and story telling was very funny though. Henry the Leaf and his great adventure with his teeny tiny feet was my favourite! :lol: I had no idea she could make up a whole story like that. They grow up so quickly don't they?

she is so gorgeous JM, i can just imagine her! i love that she entertains like such a little girl but then doesn't mind getting down and dirty and wrestling with the boys iykwim? such a great personality.

Far out, just found out my little baby sister has got a job as an EL1 with DFAT. I think I'm glad I'm down the coast, but still feeling a bit jealous.

JM, I love hearing about your excursions, etc, sounds like you're making the most of the jungle experience (like I knew you would) :). That performance sounds amazing, my DD1 was always big on putting on shows for us, still has plenty of drama in her LOL.
That's terrible, I'm so sorry to hear a little one drowned like that. It only takes seconds :(.

G, it would be so easy for them to drown in a trough. We have several around here and most of them are only 30cm tall and are long, rectangular ones but one is about 60cm deep and a big round one and I would imagine that if they had something like that or if they got caught on something and couldn't get themselves back out, then it would be easy to understand how they could have drowned. It must be devastating for them JM. I know we have a lot of water close to here - the troughs and also the big house dam, but we have never ever had a problem with the kids going near them. We have always taken a casual approach,and by that I mean that we don't go near them, but also don't make a huge fuss over them - otherwise they see it as something they NEED to check out kwim? Plus we don't swim in our dam either so our kids have never been familiar with it as a place they can go.
Arte, so glad you popped in. I knew that you weren't close, but it is still a shocking tragedy and would be hard for many to come to terms with :hug:

JM, I had to laugh at reading of Lu's antics. She is quite the little performer isn't she? You will have to video tape her doing it. So do you think you will stay longer than the 3yrs? Is there a school Lu can go to?
It is still a bit surreal having a 10yo. It's kinda weird because we're on the cusp of having that whole teen/puberty thing happen LOL. But I think Lindsay might be a late bloomer - so many of his friends are getting interested in girls and he is dead against any notion of being close to one LOL.

We changed our car to fit 3 carseats in. Wouldn't have done it so early but a bargain came along. It is a couple of years older than my current car, but less Km's so I am not sure if I have up or downgraded. Went to Wanganui with the IL's yesterday and took the kids to the park which was quite cool.
We told W about the new baby last night and he was soooo happy! He is really excited about it. He is very keen for A or baby to sleep in his room.
Feeling a bit annoyed - because BIL is close by the IL's spent the first two nights of their trip with him which was fair enough I guess since we didn't want him here. But now they are going to spend the last night with him as well when they said they would stay at the beach house with us. It wouldn't matter except that I told W and he is really excited about them coming to the beach with him. So in the end they spent 4 days here and 3 with BIL. Just sucks a bit because we paid for half of the trip, and they most likely won't see the kids again until Christmas when BIL is probably moving back down to their town (probably house) in the next month or two.
Arte - yay for new cars!!! wahoo! Wish we could have a new car, DH is talking about selling both of ours and just getting 1 nicer one but I'm not sure if I want to relinquish having my very own broombroom. I'm not sure that he's thunk it through very carefully. Sorry to hear about the ILs, we felt very similar when we spent a small fortune plus leave I didn't have at work to get to Qld for the wedding and then the family could barely rouse themselves to spend time with us while we were there. By the time we'd bought all the airfares and paid the car hire we could've gone to NZ and had a much better time and met up with my buddy Arte instead!!!

Trill, I hear you on the whole preteen/tween phase...DD1 has been known to blush furiously at the mention of certain boys' names so I fear we're well on our way LOL. Are you gearing up for another semester soon? How many subjects are you doing this time?
I have three subject this semester - which started on monday - and then another 3 plus prac next semester. But the workload for this semester in quite light really. Knowing my luck next semester will be full on because I have prac LOL.
Trill - You are powering along with your study! Prac will be fun! I must admit I am starting to lose motivation with my degree and have decided to take a break this semester. Dont think I could mentally handle it anyway at this point in time.
JM - Thats terrible to hear of such a young child drowing, I couldnt imagine how the parents feel :( Although obviously a tragic accident, I think you would never forgive yourself. L sounds just gorgeous.
MP - Tell me more about the michelle bridges 12 week challenge? I need to shed this stubborn fat around the tummy and thighs before Bali in July!

Ginger - Nope I dont blame you, that would probably keep me away as well. A good friend of mine has two big dogs, friendly enough, but I'm a bit worried about the girls around them so I avoid her house too - which is a shame, but I just invite her here.
Thanks for the advice re the breastfeeding tops. I might have a look online. I just find them to be so plain, which is ok, but not for the price that you have to pay for them!!! :) Oh and also stuff the breastfeeding blanket, DH told me they look ridiculous and draw even more attention lol. Also thanks to everyone who told me to stick breastfeeding out till at least 6 weeks, as 6 weeks really seems to be the 'magic week' - it has just become so much easier and no pain. Hope I havent jinxed myself.
Wonder how Oz went in Melb, she went to Skybie's baby boy's funeral, would have been a tough day.
OMG E is having a growth spurt, I think there is one around 6 weeks? She has fed every 2 hours since 5am, even M is saying 'not again!'. Just as long as she doesnt continue this two hour bizzo through the night!
Isa: yeah marta went beserko with the feeds around that time. it was a short burst though, but yeah your eyes start to hang outta your head after awhile lol.

Leila was smashingly tired today when she got back from kindy and fell asleep in the car so i got her out (well, i lie, DH got her out :lol:) and she is STILL asleep! :o no dinner or anything...i even tried to wake her up with tempting bribes of ice-cream. no avail. musta been a big day!
my big news is that i will be submitting my PhD this week...yay!

Isa- I found if I get loads if feeds in during the day the nights were still ok, kinda like they needed a certain amount in 24 he's and if they got it they slept well but if I tried to space then out during a growth spurt in the day time I was up at night. Clearly not a one idea solves all but worked for me. :) yay for 6 weeks! You have done do well.
Trill- I'm not sure. I might hate it by then!! Will just play it by eat I think. They company have a school run by Aussie teachers which runs under the NSW curriculum. No pre school so they start at prep. I wouldn't have a problem sending the girls there education wise but it does concern me a little that the white kids are kind of the leaders of the packs. I don't necessarily want the kids to feel like they are 'special' or 'better' than anyone else ikywim? We will see how it pans out I think. No idea where we might end up after this. Not sure what the next step for dh career wise would be. I would like to go back to uni and work at some stage. One day!! I said I wouldn't go back until the kids were at school and that's still the plan ATM.
I am sewing curtains today. What a boring job! :p

H, don't forget that you've survived a growth spurt before with M, so you know it does pass, but it just seems like it is worse when you are BF and feeling like you have your boobs out all day.

Back from our weekend away. Was a good weekend but then we were hit with a 2.5 hour bedtime - from both of them! Not looking forward to being outnumbered!

yes the cake made it safely to the party this time! lol. i left it in a different place and put a tea towel over it overnight so J didn't even know it existed LOL can't trust him around cake anymore
boys had a great day on the Thomas train. it was really cute and they loved it. J got heaps of presents- super spoilt this time! he actually got a huge Thomas table (which we haven't set up yet) but i'm sure when we do it will be fantastic. he also got given heaps of wooden thomas sets from different people so it's going to be a fantastic play table once we get it all up and running! LOL he ended up getting 2 pairs of chook leafs -1 in his current size and 1 the next size up and a gorgeous tracksuit for winter. it was a great day and the boys were so tired yesterday and J is even still in bed now! such a rockstar, i'm about to go and wake him though so that we can go to soccer. will pop back this arvo xo
oh G his birthday sounded like a smash hit! what a good loot lol! i love those tables. they have one at readings bookstore and L is always making a beeline for it.
A: i'll hear back in about 4 months :o. takes 'em awhile lol.
2.5 hour bedtime...now there's stamina...at least in the beginning new bubba will sleep on and off and through it all.

AFM: ahhhh DH was at work yesterday and well, it was raining and well i *heard* that this lux baby store up the road was having 50% off ALL oobi....:lol: got a navy blue big ruffle skirt number, a lovely top for L for next summer, a library bag and a cardigan....so awesome!! i walked out with it all for $70! which was the price of the ruffle skirt before sale lol!
also, am starting to have the dawning realisation that i am about to travel to townsville with the two kids on my own. eeeep!
well done on the Oobi!!!! that is awesome- they must be selling all their stock as the new range comes out march 5th -check out their website if you dare LOL
